We were traveling home from the nurses pinning ceremony at Westmoreland CCC. We stopped here at 8:27p and realized they close at 8:30p. My family headed to the car but I walked in to see if they could recommend a good restaurant. They simply said "you can eat here. We'll gladly serve you." I resisted and said I did not want to keep them late as I realized they were closing. I resisted but they insisted "please let us serve your family. It is not a problem at all." I got my family from the car and we were seated and treated like we were royalty rather than an imposition. The food was amazing. Every item was excellent - fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp, gluten free rigatoni, homemade family recipe pizza and the best Caesar salad I've ever had and I know Caesar salads. Lol. As amazing as the food was I cannot say enough about the welcome feeling and amazing service in this place. Not one employee made us feel like they wanted us to hurry so they could get home. Really good food. This was the first time I had been there, but from what I've heard, they recently renovated. The layout is kind of odd, a few small rooms with low ceilings, and then a huge modern room with large windows, a big bar, and very tall ceilings. We were with a group of about 10 and were seated right away due to our reservations. Drink orders were promptly taken, however the glasses were ridiculously small. I think I drank 15 glasses of water - not exaggerating at all. The food is slightly overpriced in my opinion, but the portions are large and it tastes authentic. Everything was hot (temp. wise) and served in a timely manner. I didn't feel rushed between appetizer, soup, and entree. Our waitress was nice and personable. She gave good recommendations and kept up with our ever-emptying glasses. I'd go back, but probably ask for a larger glass. read more

I was in for New Year's Eve with my family for dinner. We had reservations for 830 and didn't get seated until 915, which wasn't terribly bad bc we were able to grab drinks at the bar and enjoy the pretty Christmas decor. Once we were sat, and our waitress approached us we asked how she was and she said "over it." The food was good and quick although they were out of our favorite appetizer, zucchini. Our server was not pleasant, she constantly rolled her eyes and huffed and puffed and was in no hurry to fill our drinks or to grab new ones. She was bickering with other servers and was also very rude to other tables. One of the meals came out incorrectly and she didn't offer to replace the food correctly just said don't eat it . She was not very efficient with her time usage. read more

My family follows a very strict vegan diet (my sister is allergic to casein and whey) and the chefs are very careful to not cook with any traces of cheese, dairy, or homemade pasta for us. We ate an actual dinner at this place tonight. Before I go on I will say that I have played in band at events at their big hall across the street and always liked if not loved everything at the buffet bars at the gig. I especially loved the time they served absolutely outstanding polish cabbage rolls (I am married in to a polish family) I was disappointed that they didn't have those on the menu but they ARE an Italian restaurant. Wife had shrimp scampi with linguini which she absolutely loved and rates it among the best she has had. I tried their Italian sampler plate with two types of ravioli, spaghetti, lasagna, meatball and gnocchi. There have been many comments about things swimming in marinara here and they absolutely do. Be forewarned, i couldn't tell what was on the plate until I searched underneath. If you don't want it this way just ask for it on the side and dole it out yourself. It is a good lightly seasoned marinara and not heavily spiced and slightly sweet. The filling in the lasagna and ravioli was a great buttery seasoned ricotta cheese flavor. Loved it and the pasta that came with it. The gnocchi was good, but not the best we have had. Spaghetti was great. Meatball was made from a courser grind of meat but very flavorful. All in all I have never had anything at this place I didn't enjoy (because I've tried lots at those events) and can't imagine not enjoying anything here. Never having been disappointed in anything gives me a sense of trust in the place and thus the 5 star rating. Don't know where they get their bread from but it is fantastic. As I said the big surprise was the swimming pool of sauce. I will ask for it on the side next time. Service staff is very young but well trained and prices are on the upper side for this area. We will definitely go back because as I said I have never had anything I didn't enjoy. Those great places in Pittsburgh we have tried are truly fine but they have flopped where this place never has after having at least samples so many things. read more

It has been many years since I visited Rizzo's. Well, what was I waiting for? After being seated, a lady came over to greet us. Our waitress,Cierra, was very efficient. I ordered homemade spaghetti with 1 meatball. Also I got a house salad with homemade balsamic dressing. There was delicious bread at the table.I tried a homemade gnocchi in the red sauce. Tonight was the first time we have been to Rizzo's. We had always heard good things but didn't realize how good it truly was. Our server was Michel and she truly delivered the best service imaginable. She made us feel at home right away and went above and beyond with service and hospitality the entire meal. Everything we ate was homemade or made from scratch and you could tell. The wedding soup was to die for and our entrees came out quickly but not rushed. The portion sizes were overwhelming generous and was enough to have additional days worth of food. For dessert we got the hand spun gelati in banana, salted caramel and Nutella. Rizzo's is a hometown name with fair food. At a recent party we had a fixed menu at $60 per couple (No drinks included except water). The food was served family style, lasagna frozen then baked with sauce on top, Garlic & Oil over dried out or undercooked spaghetti noodles & baked chicken parts with greasy skin (best dish), and canned over cooked green beans. Oh and of course an under cooked pepperoni pizza appetizer. Overall poorly prepared and significantly overpriced food, but great service. read more

Just hosted a retirement party for a dear friend at Rizzo's. What a great decision. Instead of a sit down meal, we had appetizers. It was absolutely over the top!!! The appetizers were amazing! We had roasted peppers with asiago cheese, chicken Romano, sausage with peppers and onions in a marinara sauce, mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat and assorted pizzas. Then Rizzi surprised us with pumpkin ravioli!!! AMAZING! Everyone was so pleased with the service... Thank you to Celeste our server! The venue was in the new bar area and it was completely PERFECT! I was not expecting that and it too away greatly from the pierogies and onions that were well made. Maybe cut back in the butter by at least half? I have been to Rizzo's a few times and while this is not a review of a particular time I think after 5 or 6 times going there I would like to talk about the restaurant as a whole. First the hostess was the same for all 5 times I have been there while I do not know her name, she was courtesy and as quick as a busy restaurant hostess could be she was warm and professional. So go you hostess lady! Next the food, I have had a few things and while I can say I thought most of the food was great there are two exceptions. First the beef ravioli is honesty terrible, I had it the first time I was there but I had a sampler style meal so there were other things there to convince me the food was good like the cheese ravioli it was real good. Another not so good was the Lobster pasta I thought it tasted bland and the lobster had some rough flavor (wonder if it was frozen that would make sense.) But the goods, the pizza is good and actually very reasonably priced, cheese ravioli is simply amazing I loved it, the bread is soft, and the veal was well prepared (note I did have to add some salt to the veal but I think that's personal preference not a fault of theirs.) The waitresses (all except once) were great but the only one I can remember is Dana. And the one time the waitress was less then ideal I think it was noted because another employee came over and apologized explained she was having an off day, we can all have those so not the end of the world. I am not a dessert person so I can't speak to the taste but have seen a few other people eat it and they do all look amazing. Their wines have some decent selections, though I think they could add a few dessert wines to their selection, you should be able to find what you are looking for with them. read more

I used the catering service and was amazed. Sean and Cindy went above and beyond what was expected out of them. The food was amazing and fresh. We used our own venue and although our venue was unique and unconventional, they were accommodating to everything my daughter ( bride) wished for. I wish I could score more than a five because it is well deserved. I have never eating at the location, due to not living in the area but I will travel and have a meal for certain.
