First time at Rizzo's. We decided that after finding out that they were offering a $6.99 chicken parm dinner deal to get take out. I didn't have high expectations considering the price but was pleasantly surprised. The portion was very generous, more than I could finish in one meal. Since we have not done in-house dining, this review is based on my takeout experience. We discovered by accident that they were having month long anniversary specials. Unfortunately we didn't find out until the last week in the month. But we did tale advantage of the Wednesday Chicken Parm for just $6.99 each. We bought som extras to freeze for quick meals. Well, it's been a long time since I've been to a Rizzo's restaurant and we wanted to try this one on Transit. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the place. Let me just start off with this- we didn't realize it was restaurant week so the menu was very limited. This is not the restaurant's fault but it just wasn't what we were hoping for as we were in the mood for specific dishes. I started with the Autumn salad. It was sparse, but it was delicious. My husband got the banana pepper arancini. He enjoyed it. About 15 minutes after our appetizers came out they gave us bread (it was warm and the usual) and a small condiment cup of their traditional pesto sauce (that we love). The only problem is it was for five of us to share so it just felt weird to have it in such a small to go cup. Our main courses did not come out for about an hour. This was strange because it wasn't that busy yet. It didn't seem understaffed for the amount of people that were there, but I don't know what the situation is behind the scenes. The main courses looked great. They tasted good. But honestly, I feel like they should've tasted better based on how they looked. I'm not really sure how to explain it... It wasn't bad, but it wasn't phenomenal. It wasn't what we expected based on years of going to Rizzos on Eggert. Overall, the experience just felt a little off. Almost like they were a new restaurant still getting their bearings. I don't know if it's just because we had different expectations going in. I don't know if it's because the restaurant week courses we got for $25 weren't blowing us away (again, not bad just not what we expected). With all this said, we will go back to eat from their traditional menu. The service was great. It did take a long time to get our food but our server was very attentive to our needs. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere needs some patching up/updating/deep cleaning, but nothing that would make me not want to eat there. It does remind me a bit of the Eggert location. It is spacious. With speedy service and a smile I received the complimentary bread and my house salad that was included with my pasta selection of the pasta broccoli. Came back to Rizzos FINALLY and my experience was a little different than the first time. However, the food was still amazing! First I will mention that service was really slow here this time. We were there for an hour and 40 minutes total. We (just 2 of us) figured that maybe they were understaffed. But it was never communicated to us at all. Fortunately we were not in a rush to get anywhere but it would have maybe taken away the wondering where our food was portion of the dinner had we known. And now I am not sure if this is the average long wait time or if they were indeed understaffed that evening. The second thing I want to mention is that we ordered the arancini appetizer. When it arrived, it came with blue cheese which was odd and my friend immediately asked for red sauce (the ... I think manager ... brought the arancini to us). The manager then asked if the arancini was described to us and we both looked puzzled and said no. Well, I guess the arancini is "chefs choice" each week (it changes every week). So this week was buffalo chicken. My friend doesn't like stuff like that at all. The manager did try to make it right though, repeatedly offering something in its place. Now me, I like buffalo chicken so he let me try it and see if I liked it before leaving the table. I personally thought it was really good! No, it wasn't the arancini we expected but it was something different and I liked it. My friend was not interested. So make sure if you order the arancini you get a description for that week! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Additionally, I hope they can help the ventilation in the ladies bathroom. Because we were there so long, I used the ladies room twice, both an hour apart, and the smell was so bad in there I gagged.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered the Michaels pasta again. It was great but they forgot my ricotta. Luckily my waiter walked by soon after being served and I was able to have him bring me my dollop. Otherwise, it was very good again. I liked the presentation the first time I ordered it better but that's ok. And the house Italian was good on my salad. Loved the dipping oil for the bread (same as before). We did get less bread this time though, and only 1 kind versus 2, but it was good and nice and warm. My friend ordered veal and said it was very good. Service remains friendly and food of high quality still so I will not take away stars for the things I mentioned ... hopefully it was just an off night / low staff. read more

We were a little worried when we walked in and it was empty at 6pm on a Saturday night. Server showed us to the atrium which was nice because we had a party of 9 with 5 kids. Service was attentive and I liked how they could make each plate a smaller portion for kids, so the options were endless for the kids. They all loved their pizza, the crust was thick and crunchy, and the kids said they loved the sauce. They served warm bread with this amazing oil/garlic dip- which the kids ate up. I had the seafood pasta which had extra shrimp, mussels and scallops because they were out of clams. It was very good! My wife and kids had the ravioli but they said it was just okay. They were huge but the kids didn't like the filling. Great place for large groups and good food. read more

I recently dined at this restaurant and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. As an Italian food lover, I was expecting a much better meal, but the food was subpar. It seemed as though everything had been microwaved, and the sauce tasted like it came straight from a jar. Mama's meatballs were clearly frozen, and the service was horrendous. We sat down and waited for an unreasonably long time, while other guests who arrived after us were served and even had appetizers before we were acknowledged. To make matters worse, the manager was serving us but couldn't seem to figure out what to serve and when. By the time the food arrived, the pasta was cold, and the mashed potatoes were served in a cold ball. This place was an extreme letdown, and we will definitely never return. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It's an unfortunate waste of both time and money. Stay away!!! asking us to show photos, not worth the effort. just the way we were treated there. Meh. I wanted to like this meal so much. I had high hopes for adding another close to my house Italian spot to my repertoire but I just can't. I love their bread and dip that they start you with. The whole table devoured it, even the kids. Unfortunately, everything we ordered was just OK and barely seasoned. It was not a very busy night and the food looked phenomenal, but the taste fell super flat. My chicken francaise was bland as ever with no lemon flavor at all. I left more than half of it on my plate. Another person at our table got the breaded fish fry and same thing, looked huge and outstanding and tasted like blah. I'm giving it 3 stars because my husband said his Italian beef sandwich was delicious. This is my favorite place to take the kids to dinner! The food is always fresh and they're very good at getting the food out quickly. Rizzo's recently opened so we decided to give it a try... I called to make reservation and the answering machine said they would return my call.... it didn't happen so I called back to see if they had room and it all worked out. It seems many restaurants were empty on Friday. We were greeted immediately and seated. The server was very attentive and efficient... also very nice. We ordered drinks and an appetizer... the arancini was excellent. We moved on to the salads and they were fresh and the dressings were very good. On to the entrees. My Chicken Parm was overcooked and dry. The pasta was done right, but the sauce was lacking, almost seemed canned. My wife's pasta and broccoli was dry and she got some red sauce to help it along. Our dinner companions didn't have any rave reviews. They are very nice people and when I asked how dinner was I got an "OK" but the body language said "MEH", so just OK for the fish and Pasta Parm that he had to get extra sauce for... and the server caught the fact that he was missing the meatballs he ordered.
