I ordered two Sicilian slices, and I have to say they were the best two slices I've had in the immediate area. The sauce was light and flavorful, not overly acidic. Nice cheese coverage, and the dough was fluffy on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside. Most of the pizza spots in the area are on the rock hard, ultra crunchy, burnt crust trajectory. There is always that gem of a place you happen to stumble upon when it comes to pizza and I found it on my latest trip back east during the holidays. On New Year's Eve we were torn between the Windmill and some pizza and we decided too descend upon the Middlebrook Shopping Center and we found Rizzo's! A classic pizza joint whose owner is from Sicily, the walls are a tribute to Italian-Americans and Jersey giants alike. The menu is simple and to the point with sandwiches as well as dinners, salads and an array of pizza selections and toppings that are truly Italian and respectful to the art of pizza itself (no pineapple slices here). We had a pie and I my slices included Pepperoni and Mushroom and we also had some meatballs and sausage on the side! All were excellent. We got to speak with the owner and you can just tell the help was probably there the day they opened! It was New Year's Eve and they were getting plenty of pick-up orders since they don't have delivery. Rizzo's opened in 1978 and the number is 732-493-2727. Been coming here since the 1980's. Fridays are their pizza special day on slices and whole pies. Last Friday had the worst pizza in my life from them. The entire pizza was dry. Barely any cheese or sauce and the crust was stale. I will give them another shot but not on a Friday before giving up on them. Been a dedicated customer for over 40 years. read more

I can't rate the food because I couldn't get any service here. My husband and I walked in and were ignored. There was a man working behind the counter who didn't even turn around to greet us. A woman working behind the counter looked at us and just walked away. There were no other customers in the store. We are people of color. I eat here twice per week and it is some of the best pizza you will find in Monmouth County. Particularly I prefer the plain slices as the crust is perfect - thin, light & crispy but never overdone. The sauce has great flavor and the cheese is high quality. The sausage & pepper topped slices are really good as is the pepperoni. Sicilian is good too but I prefer the thinner crust. The pizza is always fresh and consistent. You can count on great pizza every time. The fountain soda is always perfect, never flat or too much syrup.The place is clean. I've seen dirty/disgusting behavior and improper food handling procedures at some other pizzerias in the area, but never here. If you use the restroom you will walk through the kitchen in the back and it's clean. They don't touch money then put their hands all over your food. It's always busy when I go here so that tells you something (plus the slices are always fresh - there's often a slice pie still hot from the oven). There are a couple quirks which may put some people off. There is a $1 charge to use a credit or debit card. Get over it, people! There is a big sign stating this next to the cash register. At least they don't jack up the price for everyone (even those paying cash) to absorb the card fees, nor do they say "cash only" and have an ATM which charges you $3 to take out money (or no ATM at all). So don't think of it as a charge. Think of it as a $1 discount for paying cash...! I always tip, even when being charged the $1. There often isn't a huge variety of different toppings and styles for slices like some other pizzerias. While they can make some of these as whole pies, they don't always offer individual slices. In my opinion it's probably because the more unusual pies largely are given away at the end of the night or thrown away, The only other quirk I can think of is you usually have to ask for a lid for your soda. No big deal, they always happily give it to me. I won't make negative comments about the counter help because they are always courteous and respectful to me, never rude. They may try to save a few bucks by doing these things, but it adds up and helps them, and in turn they don't need to raise prices, or worse, buy cheaper lesser-quality ingredients. I can't believe someone complained about the $1 charge to use a credit card and the person answering the phone sighing about being asked if they are still taking orders. Had it not occurred to you that if they weren't taking orders, they would probably answer by saying "Rizzo's, sorry we're closed", or just not answer at all? If they are answering "Rizzos...", that means they are waiting to take your order. But instead you will settle for lesser quality food to save $1 and not have your feelings hurt. The bottom line: great pizza consistently but more on the simple side when it comes to individual slices. A couple quirks which may seem annoying but not deal breakers, and for the quality of the product they are worth dealing with. Bring cash or be prepared to pay the $1 charge. read more

We live right behind Rizzo's and were happy to find a great pizza spot close to home. However, 2 things really turned us off about them: the poor customer service and the credit card fee. If you call to order later in the evening the woman will loudly sigh when you ask if they are still taking orders. Guess what? Don't take the order. That's why I call and ask. She is consistently rude, but worse over the phone. When I picked up 2 pies not long ago, she charged up for my use of a debit card. When I asked about the change in price she shot me a dirty look, and told me it was a credit card fee. Most businesses absorb the cost of using credit cards, especially if it is over a certain amount. Don't make your customers pay your credit card fees. Because of these two issues, we have taken our business to another pizza parlor. The pizza isn't as good, but the attitude and cost aren't worth it. read more

I went here last week and was still blown away by the best pizza in town. I have been a regular here for around 20 years. They still have the same pictures on the walls and being there takes me down memory lane. They treat me like family and I hope to make it another 20 years. Yum! Rizzo's is amazing! PERFECT crust, Not chewy, perfect sauce/cheese/crust ratio, great taste too (not bland). The sauce is perfect, not super sweet or salty, cheese is just the right amount. Attitude at the counter? I have met ALL the employees, I love them... and there are two "blonds" that work there. Both are super nice and accommodating. If they're out of a topping pizza, they'll make your slice with the topping, both regular and Sicilian are delicious. I haven't tried they're regular food and subs, but as for the pizza A+. Best around for at least 20 miles. Eat in or take out, love all the pictures on the wall, the store reminds me of old times, CLEAN, no frills,black block letters on a white board, nothing fancy, just some damn good pizza.... which is all I ask for. read more

Best pizza in the neighborhood! It's a family business and they have less than a handful of staff working there at a time. Half the time it's the people in there shop delivering your pizza so to the crybaby's about it's not in my area. Go pick it up! Worth it!
