If you're looking for a no-nonsense dealership that genuinely cares about their customers, RK Subaru is the place for you! Bought my 4th Subaru from RK last night, there's a reason we keep going back. Nick Wilson, sales manager, was super patient with my indecisiveness, offering different finance and leasing options between different models and trims to get me to my goal of lowering my current car payment. In this situation most dealerships will do just about anything to simply get the deal done, however Nick spent time helping me select a trim most similar to the 2022 Forester Wilderness I was trading in, so I wouldn't lose too many features in the process of saving money on the car payment itself. Anyone else would have focused on just finding me a lower payment so I really appreciated the time he spent with me on this. The sales agents assisting me, David Fanning, John Conrad, and William Link were super helpful in helping me compare models and discussing utility and capabilities as well. These guys even took me out to see the car multiple times to check for included accessories, and determining what I would need to add as well! These guys did a great job helping me make decisions as I was trading in my full sized SUV for the more compact Crosstrek Sport. Their product knowledge really shined here in not just knowing Subaru's lineup, but what options and capabilities come with each model and trim level, and being able to cross compare them. It's also worth noting that I went into the dealership battling a multi-day long migraine, and it was super cool that everyone was considerate of that as well throughout the process! Additionally, lot attendant Rich did a GREAT job on the cleanup for the car as well, he's always SO thorough! And he's even helping me put my crossbars on! The only part of the process that was frustrating was the next day, today, I met with David Fanning to get my new 2024 Crosstrek Sport's windows tinted. My car was dropped off at the tint shop at 0830, RK doesn't open until 09 so this also speaks to these agents commitment to their customers as well. Around 0930, David gets a call from the tint shop that my car is ready to be picked up. At this point, David communicated that before we can pick up the car, some paperwork had to be signed by the sales manager and taken over to the admin office, in order for the tint shop to bill the dealership for the work. And this is what we waited on for almost an hour. It appeared that the manager was in a meeting with owner during this time. David attempted to pick up this paperwork during this meeting and was told to wait. No problem, I had brought my dog with me, we hung out. Around 10, John Conrad called down to the manager's office to inquire again about being by able to pickup this paperwork so I could pickup my car and go home, again was told to wait. This was really frustrating to wait when my car was already done, and all we needed was to be able to just grab 2 pieces of paper from the manager's office. At 1020, finally we called the tint shop, explained the situation and got permission to just come get the car, and submit the paperwork by end of day. I've purchased 4 Subarus from RK, they are genuinely the best dealership in general in Hampton Roads, which is why we continue to come back for vehicles, accessories, service, say hello. I highly recommend this business for their sales staff making the stressful process of buying a car simple! read more

New incompetent management. -- I made an "appointment" last week for 10:45 AM to have a recall repaired. They told me it would take about an hour. I waited all day and got a call that they were not going to be able to get to the vehicle. This pretty much wasted my entire day. This morning I got up at 5 AM to be first in line for their 730 opening to get my oil change and filter which I have been doing for the last 13 years. The representative said, "Do you have an 'appointment'?" I said, I've never had an appointment in 13 years for oil change, and filter." She said, "Well, now you need an appointment, but we'll 'try' to fit you in." She said, "I can't guarantee we'll get you in." She also said, "Since you have a recall, we can't do your service unless you have the recall done first." I went to talk to the guy that I have been dealing with for years complaining about this and reminding him that I had an appointment last week that wasn't honored. Even though everyone else I talked to used the term "appointment", he dutifully held the new management line and said, It's not an appointment. It's a "check in time." This is total BS. Everyone on earth knows what an appointment means. It does not mean come on over and maybe we'll get to you and maybe we won't. After 13 years, they have gotten my last dollar. read more

Called service to see if they could calibrate an aftermarket windshield. Lady in service said "yes, we can". I drive 1 1/2 hours to their dealership. Service dept now tells me they will "TRY" to calibrate it, can't guarantee it will work. I would have to pay for the calibration whether it works or not. 50-50 chance. Why didn't the service dept tell me this on my initial phone call to them? I would have ordered an OEM windshield! These people apparently do not communicate with each other or the lady I initially spoke with does not totally understand the product they sell! And to throw gas on my experience, they text me 5 minutes after I left, wanting to sell me a new car!!!!! The gall! read more

The service department is a disorganized mess. You make an appointment. You get there 20 minutes early because you have been here before and know that the check in process is awful. There are already 12 cars there twenty minutes prior because they know too - some of whom you know do not have appointments because you asked in the waiting room. The staff are standing around chatting waiting until 8 am like they have not a care in the world for how infuriating it is for customers to watch that instead of mitigating the mess. So you get checked in and you go to the waiting room only to watch eight service technicians stand around chatting, laughing and dancing around for 30 minutes probably because the vehicles are all mixed in with the Chevy and it takes that long to move everything to even get to the vehicles to start work. Then your watch multiple vehicles who arrived after you get pulled in before you while your vehicle has been moved to the side and has not been touched. These folks repeatedly waste my time and don't seem to care. So I am sitting in the waiting room on my iPad letting all you nice folks who pay attention to reviews know that they are inefficient, have no problem wasting the time of their customers, no problema allowing theto employees to sit around doing nothing - a cost I am sure gets passed on to the customers. They do not take vehicles in the order that they arrive and having an appointment means nothing. read more

I was hit on January 14, on the driver side and had to be cut out by the fire department of my Impreza. 11 pelvic fractures, five breaks to my left femur, lumbar vertebrae compression fractures, hip, broken, SI joint broken Metal everywhere. Got information about a class action lawsuit, but it seems to circumvent around you addressing our problem they told you you had not the problem you thought you might've had and told them. I don't know what kind of witchcraft this is. But my life has been changed forever. I can't work. I was denied disability. I have to have another surgery to my spine. We bought our 2015 Subaru cross trek in 2016 and it's been great. I recently lost my 2007 BMW X3 due to being rear ended. We had our eye on a 2021 Subaru Outback XT limited and a fair price on it after some research. Jim , our sales associate was great even tho it this was his 2nd sale working there. Nick the sales manager was also very upfront which I appreciated and Justin the finance person kept it short and sweet and entertaining. The process of buying it still took 3 hours but that's kind of how any car sale is these days. I was very specific about what I wanted and knew what I wanted and what a fair price was for it and all this was understood by them. It's still a Bussiness , so do your own research, because let's be honest, I'd you pay to much, it's most likely your fault. The safety features in our 2021 Outback are amazing , my wife could not be more happy. We also got it in the pearl red color she wanted. The only model in this color in 400 miles. I checked. When we went to buy the car, we brought along our 2015 Cross trek , which we bought form here also and they gave it a complimentary cleaning inside and out. With Subarus offer currently , 48 months at 0.9 APR for qualified buyers , it was a no brainer. We put 10k down , for some cash back on a credit card and drove it home. Scheduled an appointment for 1000 AM oil change. Arrived at appointment at 955, was checked in and in waiting room within 5 minutes. After 2 hours, no follow up from service assistance, I approached the service desk to find out my vehicle hadn't been pulled into the garage yet. I asked why it hadn't been started because I had a scheduled appointment. He stated they run all other cars who need diagnostics first, then do all oil changes. I asked what the point of having an appointment was, and he stated it was to ensure your oil change is complete that day. When I checked in, I had my 5 year old with me and asked where the waiting room was. Not only is this poor customer service, and an inefficient way to run a business, but that fact it didn't occur to the 4 service members at the desk at check in...that sitting in the waiting room for 6 hours with my 5 year old is not do able. If I could, 0 stars for the service department. If anyone get a warranty through RK make sure it's not with this service shop. Took my car there several times for issues with a humming from my rear acle and they told me it was my new tires settling in...turns out it was the wheel bearings. Additionally, everytime I called for tires (under warranty) they would contest that I did not or Subaru did not have that type of warranty. I believe the sales team is really solid there and helpful...but the service department would have me steer clear ever coming back and buying another vehicle. read more

Recently became the proud new owner of my first ever Subaru. I always said I'd stick with Ford, but after countless hours of reading Consumer Reports it started to look like Subaru always the way to go. We began our search back in March when some unexpected car trouble came up and went into RK on a whim. We met with Jason for a bit who helped us immensely. Eased our anxiety about car shopping. He was very personable and knowledgeable. There were not much inventory to choose from but we were able to test drive a Forester I believe. It rode nice but we were much more interested in the Crosstrek, and there were none available - used that is. It looked like we had some thinking to do so we put our car search on hold. I had a short enough commute, so if I had to hoof it I could. We weren't ready to commit right away to purchasing a brand new vehicle, and so we held off. Jason was not at all pushy- just provided us with all the information we needed. Some dealerships will do everything they can to not let you walk out, but RK is different. If it's the right vehicle for you, it's the right vehicle for you. There were no pushy sales tactics which was nice. Fast forward few months later, and things changed yet again. We were moving and I would definitely need a vehicle to commute to work, and who knows what the inventory and sales team was like where we were headed. We decided to hop back over to RK to see what my current vehicle was worth as a trade-in. It turns out Jason wasn't available at that moment, but David contacted him and he said to get started with things, he'd be back shortly. So we were able to test drive a Crosstrek (and actually we could have back in March- Jason offered up his personal vehicle as a test drive, but we weren't ready yet. Thought that was pretty cool!), and it was what we were looking for. Reliable, safe, going to last us a bit of time, and every penny we paid we got in quality. Jason arrived back to the shop and checked with us and David continued to help out. They worked really well together, and it was just so nice to see both their names got credit on the sales slip- it wasn't like one sales person "stole" us away- they really are like a family at RK. The finance portion was a breeze and very transparent as well - nothing hidden at all. As two females buying a vehicle -I was nervous we would be taken advantage of, but absolutely not. I do all of my own service and repairs on vehicles, so I usually shop online for parts because dealer prices are stupidly high most places. I like to use OEM parts in my Subaru's though, and RK is the first dealership I have found that doesn't have insane markups. Their OEM parts prices are usually competitive with what I can find online. Even if they don't have things in stock, I often order parts online to pick up from them and it still ends up being cheaper and faster than other sources. The parts guys are super friendly and helpful, and I appreciate that they are real Subaru enthusiasts. I'm glad to give them my business and wish more dealerships would follow their example. read more

I needed a couple of parts for my Subaru and I spoke with the parts department and identified the parts I needed to order. I placed the order and the parts manager told me it would be 2 days (it was Tuesday) and that I should have my parts on Thursday. So I come in after work on Friday and find out my parts wouldn't be in until Monday. So I come back the following Monday after work and the parts had finally come in, but the lighting kit was the wrong model and color and the cup holder inserts were also the wrong model even thought we'd identified the part number off of the manufacturer's diagram. The staff was nice and friendly but for the amount of time and effort wasted, I found the correct parts on Amazon for a fraction of the price and had them within 48 hours. 2/5 read more

I appreciate the multi-point inspection when getting an oil change. I was surprised after a 3 hour wait for an Oil change, I got my car back only to find the tires were underinflated (light was on) and fluids were not topped off. Customer service specialist offered me a free tire rotation; I declined. Service manager offered a full refund, which never happened and now I can't get anyone to call me back. Very disappointing and not the first time so I will be finding another service station. read more

I have called RK Subaru Service department on multiple occasions and experienced very long wait times to reach someone to help me. After waiting 7 min to talk to someone about having a screw stuck in my tire, Kathy told me she needs me to call the sales department to find out if I have any warranty to replace the tire. After insisting I have already been on hold for a long time and the service department has always told me what my warranties were in the past, Kathy said she would have someone "look into it" for me. Regardless, I would need a patch job and Kathy said it would only take 20 minutes and to bring it right over. I arrived 10 minutes later and was told it would be a 2 hour wait to be seen. None of this was communicated with me when I spoke on the phone. I relayed to Kathy that I need the work done in less than two hours because I'm a night shift nurse and have to get some rest before driving into work. I went to Beach Automoble on Birdbeck Road and they took me right away. Although Kathy was very pleasant and polite, the separation of my information between the service department and sales on top of the long wait times I will not be bothering with the headache of servicing my vehicle there in the future. read more

Recently, I was in the market for an Outback. After reading an impressive Yelp review recommending Nick Wilson, I decided to visit RK Subaru. Upon our arrival we asked for Nick. When he came out, I told him that I knew what I wanted and that I already knew that he didn't have it in stock. But, I'd like to look at an Outback with all the features I want, and then hopefully he can find one in the color I want. Looking back now, I probably came across as a huge jerk but Nick was polite, friendly and very professional! During the test drive, I asked several questions about the specs and capacities of the vehicle. He was readily able to answer all of them except one. He was a little surprised that I asked one he didn't know the answer to but said, as soon as we got back to the dealership, he would find out. I was impressed that he wanted to make sure he was knowledgeable about the vehicle he was selling. I had so many previous experiences at other dealerships where the salesperson really didn't know many of the details about the vehicles they were selling. By the time we got back to the dealership, Nick went to get the answer to get my question while my husband and I looked over the vehicle some more. As we were looking, I fell in love with the color of the Outback I test drove. Nick came back to give me my answer and proceeded to point out additional features of the vehicle that we hadn't already spoken of. Lastly, he asked if I had any additional questions. He never pushed me to buy a vehicle that he knew I didn't want. He just gave me the info I needed to make an informed decision. The good news is that I ended up buying the vehicle I drove and I couldn't be happier :-) The only negative comment I would make has nothing to do with Nick and everything to do with the car buying process itself. I never understood why, regardless of the circumstances, that it takes several hours to buy a car. We went in with our own, pre-approved, financing and it still took us close to 4 1/2 hours to leave with my new car. read more

I was checking out Suburu for their affordable hybrid option. I was very impressed with this vehicle and Nick did a great job explaining all of the features. Ultimately the Suburu was more practical when I was looking for something with a more luxury feel. However, if I need a more practical outdoor-sy vehicle, I will definitely go back to Suburu! Was in from out of town and concerned that my recent tire rotation from my Subaru service dept back home may have left a few things loose. I ran by RK and they were able to get me in first thing the next morning. I was there about an hour, and despite the tire pressuring being a bit off, the mechanic couldn't find anything wrong with my car. So he suggested we go for a drive and I could point out what I was experiencing. After driving around for 10-15 minutes, I was satisfied that the loose feeling wasn't there anymore. Both the mechanic and the service manager, Erik, were friendly, helpful and thorough. In the end, they spent a good hour on my car. Since we weren't able to find anything wrong, they weren't able to bill me for anything! It's not every day that happens. My fiancé and I came here a couple weeks ago to purchase a new vehicle. We had actually stopped by another local Subaru dealership first to "window shop." When we came to RK, we noticed that vehicles with the same features and packages were several thousand dollars less at RK than at the other dealership. We came in on a Monday night and, having never owned a Subaru before, just wanted to look around/test drive/etc. We spent some time with Chris Brennan who took us on a test drive. He was knowledgeable about the vehicle and able to answer all our questions. At the end of the night, we weren't 100% sure if we were ready to make the purchase, so we said we would think about it overnight. We weren't pressured at all or given any push back. We came back on Tuesday ready to make the purchase. We met with Chris again, took another test drive, and bought the car. I really feel like this is overdue especially since I have moved out of the area. But, I'm currently sitting at another dealership in TX wishing I had the same service department as at RK Subaru.
