Surprised at how mid this place was based on the reviews. Food was ok. I had the "Nashville hot" chicken sandwich and duck fat fries. In its own right, the sandwich was good. But this thing was as close to Nashville as New York is to Cambodia. Not spicy at all. Still surprises me when Popeyes has a better chicken sandwich than a sit down place. The fries were meh, which is a bummer because that's what brought me to RMU. They were dry and somehow seemed like they were baked as opposed to fried. They were also lacking in the garlic department. Wife had the shrimp salad sandwich. She said it was ok, but not a great value for what it cost. The service was also meh at best. The regulars definitely seemed to get a little better treatment, but that's normal I suppose. Overall, not a terrible place to go for apres im sure. But I wouldn't recommend to come just for the food. read more

Ordered the chicken sando & it was absolutely slamming! Crispy, crunchy on the outside, coated with a bomb ass seasoning. The chicken was juicy and tender on the inside. The slaw gave a slight tang that brought everything together on a soft buttery brioche, hot damn!!!! The chicken thigh was so large, hanging outside of the bun, that I got 3-4 scrumptious bites of chicken only, before tackling the actual bun/chicken/slaw inside of the sando. Two ice cold IPA's and BOOM! Stick a fork in me. The patio was quaint on warm July Summer day, with nice shade from sun. Folks were playing corn hole and laughing, couples and families chillin. I love eating here! The atmosphere is very laid back but the food is high quality. Their craft cocktail menu is fabulous. My favorite is the poke nachos and jalapeño margarita. The service staff seemed a little overwhelmed at my last visit, but as someone who works in the service industry, I can appreciate a rough shift. I ate about 5 and passed on the rest. Pros: REALLY TASTY BURGER Cons: The price of the burger; crappy fries Music is way too loud (it makes it difficult to talk!) Sketchy service - the woman who brought us our burgers said she would bring back napkins, etc, and she did not. I had to go to the bar and ask for napkins! AND I GAVE THEM A 20% TIP AHEAD OF TIME! A+ food. Got the burger that came with fries, a chicken sandwich, and a side of mac and cheese. The food is very filling and rich. A bit on the pricey side. The main complaint I had was the time it took to get the food. The burger came out very quickly but the sandwich took about 35-40 min. This can create a difficult dynamic within a group meal as the food comes at very different times. In my experience this led to people watching me eat the sandwich by myself which was extremely embarrassing. The restaurant also doubles as a bar and store, and offers an outside patio for dining. Overall I would recommend this place to anyone in Truckee who's looking for a chill/upscale dining experience, but make sure you have time to wait for the food. read more

We were there last Thur night, the place was packed out. Everyone was laughing, having a great time, and enjoying the music. Just has a great comfortable vibe. The Truckee long-time locals are cool, chill, easy-going. Just want everyone to enjoy life in the mountains and appreciate the simple things. Weirdest combo pub/bar/bike shop/retail store/club after 9pm that I have ever been to, but the food was really good! It's a bit odd that you order at the bar, trying to squeeze in between people sitting at the counter so you can give your food order to a bartender, who hands you a number to take to your table. However, my smoked turkey club was the best non-burger burger lookalike I've ever had! The description (Apple Brined Turkey, Bacon, Avocado, Lettuce, Tomato, Provolone, Red Pepper Aioli) doesn't make you think you're about to get a burger, but it could have fooled me with the melty cheese with a crunchy skirt on top of crispy bacon and grilled turkey. They don't skimp on the avocado or aioli either, and the whole melty delicious mess comes sandwiched between two grilled brioche buns. Upgrade to the duck fat fries for another $2 and you won't miss the burger! But my friends who ordered the burger weren't disappointed either. The double patties were juicy and generously portioned and also barely contained by the brioche bun. On Thursdays during the summer, they also have live music playing in the carriage house outdoor seating area. Highly recommended for a delicious meal and a variety of alcoholic drinks! read more

I was stoked on this place until my son let me know about his experience this week. He had a tab and left his card there for his tab......so they knew he wouldn't be skipping out on the bill. Since he left his card there without closing it out, RMU decided to do something extremely ILLEGAL. They had the card, so decided to close out the bill but ADDED A 20% gratuity because he left it. He and his friends tipped cash already. If they'll illegally add 20%, did they also add other peoples drinks or something else? He checked the bill and reported to the credit card company. The credit card company removed the 20% illegal gratuity that the bartender thought she was owed. I would recommend that people going to RMU check their charges and not give them a card to open a tab. read more

Gorgeous interior! Went last night for a little date night, have been wanting to check out this newish place in town. We walked into a super sexy little bar/shop and loved the fun drinks listed and food.. Then we watched the "bartender" reading the recipe for each drink - pour in little measuring cup, shake, shake, shake, drop... whoops forgot an ingredient - makes it again (after reviewing the recipe again)- this happened several times.  "Bartender" #2 comes does the same - these people didn't seem like they were actual bartenders - it felt like they were trying for sure! But when you walk into a sexy place like this, with expensive cocktails - you expect a professional to make your drink. Next, food: The brussel sprouts were delishhhh.. Tacos - the meat was super dry... Poutine - my canadian husband was not impressed. The gravy was soo salty and the cheese curds were cold. I really wanted to like this place, I wonder if the new owners have any experience with food and beverage. There's a ski shop in the building - the skis are beautiful.. Perhaps they should stick to selling beautiful skis and leave out the bar/food part. read more

This restaurant has such amazing vibes! You walk in from downstairs and it feels like you are walking into someone's kitchen for dinner! Kodiak, the bartender, has immaculate vibes. We enjoyed our food immensely. Would absolutely recommend the tuna poke and the burger! Kodiak made me a blackberry mojito based his rec and it was so refreshing. Sweet & a tiny bit of ginger taste. 2/10 recommend this spot... The drinks were alright but I have never had worse service in my life. The blonde female bartender needs to either be given some serious training. My friend is from Alaska and I understand not many people have seen an Alaska ID and given how young she looks, I understand why this bartender questioned her age. After 15 minutes of this lady looking at the ID and getting other bartenders to look at it as well, she continued to give us all a death stare from across the bar. After threatening to call the cops (and us encouraging it) she finally gave us the ID back with an eye roll. We had to relocate to the other side of the bar because she refused to take our order. Later in the evening, another friend asked for a napkin, the bartender made eye contact with her and turned away. My friend responded "umm??" to which the blonde bartender yelled back "I'm FUCKING LOOKING FOR ONE" which we would not have known since she didn't acknowledge her... I understand bartenders must be able to put their foot down, however this uncalled for hostility was extreme. After finishing our drinks we left due to the level of unprofessionalism. This restaurant/ bar is in an old restyled house which they left all the old charm, even the marble floors!! It was a very laid back vibe. Only had one table and rest were bar seating/ bar stools for high top seating around the halls. You order at the bar, no waitresses. Service was great and friendly. We had the fried chicken Nashville sandwich( with hot oil on the side) and smash burger. Both were incredible sandwiches!! Fresh cut fries also great. Good band and the guys were from Ft Collins, Colorado where I went for my undergraduate degree. They were stuck in a small room off the bar hardly playing to anyone directly in front of them. What a fun, delicious, interesting place to stop for lunch! We were driving back from Incline Village, North Lake Tahoe to Nipomo, CA, and I searched Yelp and saw this gem. It's the Kruger-White House in Truckee on Donner Pass Road. Lots of great history. It's a converted, old mansion with a lot of eclectic character. A sweet, black dog greeted us in the hallway on the way to the bar to order lunch. Our server, the bartender, was local and friendly. We shared a smash burger and fries-- which was delicious and totally worth the stop. We didn't upgrade to duck fat fries, but I'm sure they are great as well. If you like old, quirky places-- especially with great food, this place is definitely worth a stop driving in off the highway to Truckee. The inside has definitely had some Friday night miles and you can tell it gets busy on weekends because of the multiple bar sitting areas inside and outside. The stories those old walls could tell! Came with a group of friends - we all received our orders nearly 20 minutes after each other. The last person in our group got his food nearly an hour after ordering, while we were seated in the downstairs bar. 'Welcome Drinks' was a kick-off experience we provided for our guests arriving at Lake Tahoe for a days-long family wedding. Went to RMU this weekend to grab a bite while we were in truckee for the weekend. I haven't been there before but the reviews were good so decided to give it a try. We went up the steps where the girl was checking ids and asked where we should go just to eat. She directed us and some little guy had to open his mouth and tell us to "move along". We heard it and brushed it off, but we walked down the stairs and kept waking. We spent our money elsewhere and if you are reading this I suggest you spend it elsewhere as well. If that's the service we can expect before we even walk in the door, I have no expectation that the service inside will be any better. I couldn't remark on the food obviously. This was on Friday night 5/6/23 right about 7:45pm. The rude guy was standing to the left of the entrance. Maybe someone can give this guy a lesson in hospitality. read more
