The flavors blended so well together. I wanted to eat more. Garlic prawns were delish, and shareable, the braised short rib udon was also tasty. We came here for brunch, and the experience was overall just okay. The ambiance was nice and very intimate. However, although the restaurant wasn't busy and we had reservations, it took a while for us to be seated. The hostess acknowledged us, but there was still a noticeable delay before we were shown to our table. The service was also quite slow throughout our visit. It took a while to get our check despite the restaurant not being busy. That said, the staff was very kind and courteous. The menu is quite extensive with lots of options to choose from. We ordered the kinmedai sashimi, which tasted good, but the portion size and quality didn't quite justify the price. The spicy karaage with vegetable fried rice was flavorful, though it leaned more toward Korean fried chicken than what we expected. My partner had the bento box with grilled salmon (an additional $3), and while it was enjoyable, the portion and quality didn't really make the extra cost feel worthwhile. The highlight of the meal was definitely the soufflé pancakes which were light, fluffy, and paired perfectly with the matcha cream. Loved our dinner here, the food was fantastic. We came here for a double date and overall was very impressed. The atmosphere is beautiful, a bit dark, which is why all the pictures turned out slightly red, but not so dark that I couldn't see. They also had a live DJ, but I didn't find the music too loud to hold a conversation, so that was great. The one random strange thing is there is no dessert menu. They give complementary ice cream, and when we asked if there was a dessert menu, the waiter was a bit apologetic and said no they usually send people next-door to Jekyll, but That Jekyll is fully booked that night. He did say they had dessert cocktails. We started with edamame, which was fantastic. The Wagyu Gyoza came out very quickly, I wasn't the biggest fan, but my husband seems to really like it. We also got prawns, which was delicious. Then for our main we got the spicy udon, which I found a bit spicy so I wouldn't get again, but the udon itself was delicious. The Bulgogi skirt steak, which is a must get. I loved it. And two sushi rolls. I forget what one of them was but the other was the ro roll and it was delicious. Both rolls were very good so even though they are more expensive than other sushi places they seem to be worth it. Sushi in South Tampa seems to be more expensive anyway so maybe this is normal for this area. They have large format cocktails, which feeds four, I loved their version of a lychee martini. It came in a fish looking pitcher, which was so fun. They had the butterfly pea plant in the cups, so it turned the drink purple when they poured it in, which is a neat party trick. My husband loved his old-fashioned and my husband and our friend's husband ordered Sake, which they both seem to like. Corkage if you bring wine is $20 which is on the cheaper side of what I have seen. We ended with an espresso martini which was not too sweet, exactly how I like it. Our waiter was outstanding, he took the time to explain everything and visited us enough times that I felt like we were never waiting on anything. The parking garages can get really packed, we circled the one right next to ro the beginning and couldn't find anything so we ended up going to the one closer to Timpano and we were able to find a spot. RO Has one of the very best happy hours! The ambience is so beautiful there with the dimly lit beautiful bar and gorgeous drinks! Plus you have Joel at the bar who is a genuine sweetheart, and so much fun! The Late night happy hour is a must! Very solid place in Hyde Park for Japanese fusion dishes! The service is solid and friendly and the food is solid as well. I definitely enjoyed the Carbonara. Love the hints of miso and the use of beef bacon, which made for a unique beefy flavor that you don't typically find in a carbonara. The ice cream to end the night was excellent as well. Very classy interior ambiance, worthy of a night out on the town. I do wish it was slightly brighter on the inside. It was a tad too muted in lighting in my opinion. I went to Ro Hyde Park for happy hour and sat outside at the side of the bar. It was not very busy when I went, which made for a nice, relaxed atmosphere. We ordered the edamame, steak yakitori, and duck egg rolls. The duck egg rolls were definitely the best thing we had and easily my favorite item of the night. The edamame was good, too. The steak yakitori was a little disappointing. You have to cook it yourself on a hot rock, which could be fun in theory, but the steak was hard to chew, and the scallions were way too spicy and ended up ruining the meat for me. To drink, I had the sake flight, which was just okay. Overall, it was a mixed experience, but not a bad one. There were definitely some highlights, and I would go back to try other items. read more

Let me first say that we have frequented Ro for brunch for monthssssss. We had some issues during this visit but all issues were resolved by our server who was awesome and doing above and beyond her job. Going during brunch is such a good way to try out this restaurant without paying the large price tag of a dinner. What we love most about Ro is that we can always walk in and get a table (for 2), the vibes are amazing because it is the most gorgeously designed restaurant and they always have the best music (helloooooooo 00's R&B). When things are done as expected, you should receive a nice little hot rehydrated hand towel to clean your hands before beginning your meal. This time we did not but it was due to being short-staffed. Once we brought it to the attention of our server, she immediately fixed it and brought the towels over for us. We also had some issues with the way our food came out, in that the nigiri came out at the same time as our whole meal. We were missing soy sauce and our utensils (other than chopsticks) so we couldn't eat either the nigiri or the meal we ordered. It then took us a good 10 minutes to get our servers attention because again she was literally serving the entire room herself. Brought it up to her and she offered to reheat/refire our food since we waited so long, brought the items we were missing, and also offered an additional glass of champagne to make up for the issues. Again, this is not normally our experience and she did her best to make it right. Now, let's get to the food. Their nigiri is always amazinggggg and reasonably priced. I like that you can either get 1 or 2 pieces and aren't locked into either option. For our entrees, I got the Bulgogi Skirt Steak and Eggs and my wife got the Spicy Karaage. We were both very surprised by the presentation of the Spicy Karaage because when ordering Karaage at any other restaurant, it's usually fried tiny pieces of chicken. This came with an entire chicken leg on the top. It was super strange and my wife did not eat that. It just doesn't make sense when you serve boneless chicken with bone-in chicken. Outside of the presentation, the flavor was great and the serving size was generous. We had to take some home. My dish was absolutely delicious. No notes. Oh and don't let me forget that you never have to pay for dessert here! They ALWAYS give you free soft serve at the end that is some awesome new flavor they created that day/week. That day, we got Ube soft serve with Biscoff crumble on top. We will always be back and excited to see what new items they bring to the menu! read more

They have table seating, bar seating and sushi bar seating. Upon sitting, we were greeted by our server, Kyle. Kyle was AMAZING! Very attentive and cordial. Made conversation with us and made us feel welcome and valued as a customer. We ordered edamame as our appetizer. These were very tasty. They did have some spicy stuff on them but not on all of them. I actually didn't know until I happened to take one that had a small brown looking spice on it. For our food, we ordered the Ro and Dragon rolls to share. I've never had sushi with the raw fish. I typically only get it if it's fully cooked and deep fried. So me ordering thinking this was going to be deep fried and / or fully cooked. So when these rolls arrived at the table I was thinking I wasn't going to eat. Then I sucked it up and went for it. These were absolutely delicious. I do have to say that this was the best sushi I've had. I experienced something new and fell in love. We did like the Dragon roll the best. But we both agreed that we'd definitely be back here!! Created a great family-style meal experience too. The garlic prawn had so much umami and was PACKED with garlic. The cocktails were perfectly executed. The ambiance was nice - dark walls and dim lighting. We ordered a bunch of items. The raw fish tasted fresh. I got the short rib udon and the flavor was nice - very garlicky. My boyfriend got the beef fried rice which was not good. For $21 plus $9 beef - you'd expect it to taste good but the rice was sticky and stuck together plus it had an overly charred and bitter flavor. I was disappointed. I do wish they gave bigger portions for the price but still well worth it. The food was top tier.
