Came for anniversary dinner it was absolutely amazing. The vibes are dark and moody and the fish they serve is so fresh. I'd skip on the stone you cook the beef with but everything else like the hamachi crudo was mouth watering. They gave us a card and champagne for our anniversary as well as brought us to the speakeasy next door after dinner for an after dinner experience. I highly recommend! read more

If i could give Ro an extra star, I would. Every item that was brought to the table was hit after hit after hit! Two things that blew my mind the most were the prawns and the cauliflower. I could eat those daily. I was so focused on trying as many things on the menu as possible that I didn't really dive into cocktail selections, other than the mocktails I ordered for my teen. And the ambiance was very casual but the decor was very classy and perfectly photogenic. I will certainly be a repeat customer. read more

Best customer service, our server was so nice. Very vibrant, DJ playing in the background, spacious. Gave me NYC vibes forsure. The food was amazing, I am still dreaming about the carbonara 10/10, Peking duck shareable for 4 people or more for $125, it's a great deal. Sushi options, you can make specialized drinks- I ordered a lychee margarita super yum. The maguro Carparcio is a must ordered appetizer as it has some caviar on top and a yummy cream. The flavors blended so well together. I wanted to eat more. Garlic prawns were delish, and shareable, the braised short rib udon was also tasty. The salmon crudo was 3/5, it could've used more flavor. End of the night they offered us free ice cream- tasted like coffee with other delish vanilla and crushed ube cookie. He said that make special flavors of the week or something. They do charge for waters. read more

Stopped in mid-afternoon and the place was nearly empty. First impressions were mixed: the menu was dirty and torn up, the hostess wasn't especially friendly, and there was no real vibe to the room, though the music was fun. Our waitress Bella made up for it. She was great and steered my husband toward the Chicken Katsu BLT over Ro's burger. Good call -- it was mighty, so come hungry. Well prepared, not greasy for a deep-fried meal. The Negroni was delicious and very well stirred. The food got more uneven from there. The crown roll was just ok -- heavy on the rice, the crab was tough, the yuzu-kosho tuna on top was very good. On the sashimi, the hamachi was good but the akami missed. I'm used to bluefin melting in my mouth and this didn't -- it tasted far from fresh and left a strong aftertaste. Overall, the sushi quality wasn't worth the price. Bottom line: great service from Bella and a solid cocktail, but the sushi didn't deliver for what you pay. read more

Loved our dinner here, the food was fantastic. We came here for a double date and overall was very impressed. The atmosphere is beautiful, a bit dark, which is why all the pictures turned out slightly red, but not so dark that I couldn't see. They also had a live DJ, but I didn't find the music too loud to hold a conversation, so that was great. The one random strange thing is there is no dessert menu. They give complementary ice cream, and when we asked if there was a dessert menu, the waiter was a bit apologetic and said no they usually send people next-door to Jekyll, but That Jekyll is fully booked that night. He did say they had dessert cocktails. We started with edamame, which was fantastic. The Wagyu Gyoza came out very quickly, I wasn't the biggest fan, but my husband seems to really like it. We also got prawns, which was delicious. Then for our main we got the spicy udon, which I found a bit spicy so I wouldn't get again, but the udon itself was delicious. The Bulgogi skirt steak, which is a must get. I loved it. And two sushi rolls. I forget what one of them was but the other was the ro roll and it was delicious. Both rolls were very good so even though they are more expensive than other sushi places they seem to be worth it. Sushi in South Tampa seems to be more expensive anyway so maybe this is normal for this area. They have large format cocktails, which feeds four, I loved their version of a lychee martini. It came in a fish looking pitcher, which was so fun. They had the butterfly pea plant in the cups, so it turned the drink purple when they poured it in, which is a neat party trick. My husband loved his old-fashioned and my husband and our friend's husband ordered Sake, which they both seem to like. Corkage if you bring wine is $20 which is on the cheaper side of what I have seen. We ended with an espresso martini which was not too sweet, exactly how I like it. Our waiter was outstanding, he took the time to explain everything and visited us enough times that I felt like we were never waiting on anything. The parking garages can get really packed, we circled the one right next to ro the beginning and couldn't find anything so we ended up going to the one closer to Timpano and we were able to find a spot. They do have valet parking that you can pay for if you can't find anything. read more

Interesting. Never been. Never will. Won't pay extra 3 percent for what should be operational costs built in to the price of the meals. Restaurants should be careful with this. Will lead to a lot of empty tables eventually. read more

We came here for brunch, and the experience was overall just okay. The ambiance was nice and very intimate. However, although the restaurant wasn't busy and we had reservations, it took a while for us to be seated. The hostess acknowledged us, but there was still a noticeable delay before we were shown to our table. The service was also quite slow throughout our visit. It took a while to get our check despite the restaurant not being busy. That said, the staff was very kind and courteous. The menu is quite extensive with lots of options to choose from. We ordered the kinmedai sashimi, which tasted good, but the portion size and quality didn't quite justify the price. The spicy karaage with vegetable fried rice was flavorful, though it leaned more toward Korean fried chicken than what we expected. My partner had the bento box with grilled salmon (an additional $3), and while it was enjoyable, the portion and quality didn't really make the extra cost feel worthwhile. The highlight of the meal was definitely the soufflé pancakes which were light, fluffy, and paired perfectly with the matcha cream. Overall, the experience was decent, but not compelling enough for us to return. read more

Went here and sat out on the patio for drinks, and the drinks were really good. The vibe of the restaurant is super cool and smooth, and it feels like a great spot to hang out and relax. The menu looks fantastic, and everything about the place feels well thought out. I haven't eaten here yet, but everyone I talk to either absolutely loves this place or had a really bad experience. I honestly haven't heard much in between so far. That said, my experience was very positive when it comes to the drinks and the overall vibe. RO Has one of the very best happy hours! The ambience is so beautiful there with the dimly lit beautiful bar and gorgeous drinks! Plus you have Joel at the bar who is a genuine sweetheart, and so much fun! The Late night happy hour is a must! A few of my favorite items are the King Salmon Crudo, teriyaki glaze, salmon and the chicken Katsu on the menu. I love that the manager Miguel is very attentive and checks in on his guest. Very solid place in Hyde Park for Japanese fusion dishes! The service is solid and friendly and the food is solid as well. I definitely enjoyed the Carbonara. Love the hints of miso and the use of beef bacon, which made for a unique beefy flavor that you don't typically find in a carbonara. The ice cream to end the night was excellent as well. Very classy interior ambiance, worthy of a night out on the town. I do wish it was slightly brighter on the inside. It was a tad too muted in lighting in my opinion. 10/10 would definitely recommend! This was my first time here and my expectations were nothing short of being met and that was a lot due to Nay's impeccable service as our waiter. The place was dimly lit and perfect for a date night. Appetizers: Crown sushi roll (7/10) and the Surf and Turf roll, this was too 3 rolls I have ever had in my life 100/10! Entrees: Glazed Salmon 9/10, Chinese broccoli 10/10, shrimp fried rice 9/10. Drinks: Lychee Martini (8.5/10) and Cucumber martini (10/10) To end a wonderful experience our waiter brought us complimentary dessert, strawberry ice cream with blueberry ganache and crust crumble 9/10. We went for their lunch omakase and everything tasted okay. Nothing special and food took a long time.i didnt start our first bite until 25mins after our reservation. Probably wouldnt be back. Amuse was too salty. The butter that they used did not go well with the A5 and they dont provide ginger or wasabi with our omakase experience. We did like the madai (seabream) which isnt on the menu,king salmon and maki rolls but that's about it. Everything lacked flavors sadly. Our miso came out cold as well. Super disappointing so we most likely will not be back. read more

Food 3/5: we ordered a variety of roles, including the salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, the Ro roll, edamame, Wagyu wontons, tuna cups. Some of the spicy salmon rolls and tuna rolls were on the fisher side. Didn't seem very fresh. They were basic rolls here. There wasn't anything special that would equate to the prices. The edamame was very good and very well seasoned. The way you wontons were OK. The tuna cups are pretty good though. There's not very many options on the menu. However, the drinks are very good. This is definitely a higher end place where you want to dress up nicely for. read more

I went to Ro Hyde Park for happy hour and sat outside at the side of the bar. It was not very busy when I went, which made for a nice, relaxed atmosphere. We ordered the edamame, steak yakitori, and duck egg rolls. The duck egg rolls were definitely the best thing we had and easily my favorite item of the night. The edamame was good, too. The steak yakitori was a little disappointing. You have to cook it yourself on a hot rock, which could be fun in theory, but the steak was hard to chew, and the scallions were way too spicy and ended up ruining the meat for me. To drink, I had the sake flight, which was just okay. Overall, it was a mixed experience, but not a bad one. There were definitely some highlights, and I would go back to try other items. read more

We all got cocktails which were each unique and delicious. The tokonatsu and kuusou (smoked) were show stoppers! We had a pretty large spread of sushi, wagyu gyoza, edamame, spicy karaage (amazing), chicken katsu, and more. We went to Ro for brunch. The restaurant is conveniently located right in Hyde Park Village so before or after eating one can shop and take in the other shops in the area the restaurant is nicely appointed with plenty of room for each table. We enjoyed every dish that we ordered. The rock shrimp were delicious, but I will note that they are very rich and so may be a good dish to share the steak and eggs were cooked perfectly with tremendous flavor and finally not to miss the sushi which was fresh. First things first: we loved the service at ro. Our waiters name was Joe, and he ensured everything was made to our liking when we gave our honest thoughts!!! However I will say the food was just fine - the beef yakisoba had a strong vinegar taste and the chicken kaarage was more of a Korean fried chicken. Came here for dinner with a friend on Friday night. Definitely recommend a reservation. We were sat at a high top near a window close to the bar. We did make it in time for the happy hour menu which they cut off at 6pm. I ordered the Tuna & the Salmon Hand Rolls plus the Hamachi Carpaccio. I loved all of it. Service was great, she even brought us free soft serve ice cream after we were finished with our meals. The parking garage above the restaurant is free and very convenient. read more

Must try chic sushi hotspot with amazing sake selection and some of the freshest fish anywhere! Even has the iconic Japanese soufflé pancake. Of course service was amazing as you would expect and you can come casual or dressy which is another reason to love this place! I do not understand how they have 4 stars. To start with - the service is terrible. You will beg for water and even my wine glass was empty for a considerable time before I was asked if I would like another glass. I ordered the Salmon entree which was so overly salted it was hard to eat. I LOVE a salty dish but even I could not enjoy this - I think even the fish objected to the salinity! The second issue is how the management addresses a problem. We split the bill and the other person in our party had items on the bill that none of us had ordered. It was embarrassing the amount of time it took for them to figure it out. The waiter actually told us if we didn't pay for it that management would make him pay the difference. It made everyone at the table uncomfortable. The ambiance was nice until it wasn't. The music was turned up so loud that we felt we were yelling across the table to be heard. Overall this experience was not worth our time and money. There are so many other choices these days. Sunda at Mid-town delivers a consistent upscale experience for around the same prices - For a restaurant group it is really surprising the quality of the service and the food. It is almost like you have amateurs creating the recipes and executing the menu. VERY disappointing. read more

Great happy hour options I tired the spicy tuna roll. It's served with soy sauce, ginger, and wasabi. Topped with sesame seeds. Very fresh 10/10. My favorite cocktail the lychee martini. This is one of the best I've ever had. Creamy sweet and garnished with a big lychee. Bartenders were attentive. Loved the design of the bar that had both inside and outside seating. read more

We went to Ro after reading the great reviews. Made an early reservation so we could later go to downtown Tampa. Very nice modern dining room. First thing that caught my eye was the display of Peking Ducks by the kitchen. The hostess's were very friendly and attentive. We were quickly shown to our table. We ordered a Kirin beer and a coke. A tempura shrimp appetizer was so crisp and delicious - similar to a BangBang Shrimp. We couldn't resist the duck. They brought it out to showcase it then went back to preparing it. The kitchen cuts it into sections assuring each piece has that incredible crispy skin on it. The duck comes with thin pancakes, 3 dipping sauces and pickled vegetables to create tasty little bites. Also included was delicious fried rice. We polished off 2/3 of the duck. I wish the duck had spent more time roasting to render more of the fat layer under the skin. In some places it was 3/8 of an inch thick. We enjoyed our ice cream cup dessert. read more

Let me first say that we have frequented Ro for brunch for monthssssss. We had some issues during this visit but all issues were resolved by our server who was awesome and doing above and beyond her job. Going during brunch is such a good way to try out this restaurant without paying the large price tag of a dinner. What we love most about Ro is that we can always walk in and get a table (for 2), the vibes are amazing because it is the most gorgeously designed restaurant and they always have the best music (helloooooooo 00's R&B). When things are done as expected, you should receive a nice little hot rehydrated hand towel to clean your hands before beginning your meal. This time we did not but it was due to being short-staffed. Once we brought it to the attention of our server, she immediately fixed it and brought the towels over for us. We also had some issues with the way our food came out, in that the nigiri came out at the same time as our whole meal. We were missing soy sauce and our utensils (other than chopsticks) so we couldn't eat either the nigiri or the meal we ordered. It then took us a good 10 minutes to get our servers attention because again she was literally serving the entire room herself. Brought it up to her and she offered to reheat/refire our food since we waited so long, brought the items we were missing, and also offered an additional glass of champagne to make up for the issues. Again, this is not normally our experience and she did her best to make it right. Now, let's get to the food. Their nigiri is always amazinggggg and reasonably priced. I like that you can either get 1 or 2 pieces and aren't locked into either option. For our entrees, I got the Bulgogi Skirt Steak and Eggs and my wife got the Spicy Karaage. We were both very surprised by the presentation of the Spicy Karaage because when ordering Karaage at any other restaurant, it's usually fried tiny pieces of chicken. This came with an entire chicken leg on the top. It was super strange and my wife did not eat that. It just doesn't make sense when you serve boneless chicken with bone-in chicken. Outside of the presentation, the flavor was great and the serving size was generous. We had to take some home. My dish was absolutely delicious. No notes. Oh and don't let me forget that you never have to pay for dessert here! They ALWAYS give you free soft serve at the end that is some awesome new flavor they created that day/week. That day, we got Ube soft serve with Biscoff crumble on top. We will always be back and excited to see what new items they bring to the menu! read more

Had extremely high expectations, especially after reading so many reviews from multiple sources. Let's start with the positives: beautiful space with a very cool vibe and all of the fish was extremely well prepared. The rest of the experience was underwhelming, mediocre, and disappointing. Sat at the bar, and ordered a glass of wine. Right from the start, our server (one of three) seemed confused and lacked knowledge regarding where things were and options available. In fact, the service at the bar seemed clunky, disjointed, and a bit amateurish . The exception was Scott--he seemed to have a bit more knowledge and control of the bar. After the initial hiccup, ordered the sashimi platter as a starter: it was excellent. Although priced aggressively, the size of the sashimi slices and the quality of each piece of fish was outstanding . After the sashimi, ordered two entrées: the salmon (medium rare) and the miso glazed, black cod. Although the salmon was a bit overcooked, it was delicious. Unfortunately, the rest of the plate was poorly prepared, sloppy, and tasteless. The rice which was supposed to be kaffir lime rice, was just plain mushy sushi rice. The vegetable (Chinese broccoli) was simply steamed with zero seasoning. The shiitake mushrooms seemed like they were dried shiitakes that had been rehydrated and served as is: no flavor of any kind, and rubbery. Note: we did not know what the vegetable was, and after asking the server, they were also confused and thought it might've been bok choy-it was not. The cod and miso glaze was delicious. But again, the rest of the plate was: NOTHING. Although supposed to be served with pickled vegetables, they never arrived with the plate. Why not inform the servers of these missteps? Because based on their lack of knowledge and overall disjointed approach, I had zero confidence that they would be able to do anything about it. Bottom line: for a restaurant that is charging prices like a 5 Star Restaurant, the overall dining experience was an extremely disappointing. Overall grade: "C-". read more

5/5 We absolutely loved RO in Tampa. The place is beautiful and has such a great vibe the moment you walk in, but what really made the night stand out was how special they made my mom feel. We started with a lychee martini and a beer, and that lychee martini was SO good, sweet, strong, and honestly one of the highlights of the night. We also got the edamame. It wasn't my favorite since I usually prefer a more classic seasoning, but it was still fine and not a big deal at all. For our main dishes, we had the chicken fried rice and the steak with eggs and potatoes, and both were delicious. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and cooked really well. The atmosphere was gorgeous, service was great, and since it was right after Mother's Day, they surprised all the moms with a rose and complimentary ice cream, which was such a sweet and thoughtful touch. It honestly made the experience even more memorable for my mom. The only small downside of the night was that they only had three baby high chairs available, which made it a little tricky since there were families there, but other than that, everything was amazing. First, we have to be fair - the food was very good. The sushi was fresh (at first) and not overly condimented, so their sushi chefs really take pride in what they do... Down hill from there. We did not have a reservation on a Wednesday early evening - 70% empty. We had to sit at a high top table near the bar with the windows open and it being 90* outside... I mean, seriously? If you overlooked the water or had a great view - ok I get it, but it opens on a street.... We ordered two glasses of rose, and two appetizers, our apps got there before the wine, and we were nearly finished the apps - from ordering until wine time, it was 17 minutes. There was no manager present, the server did not check back on us and did not even seem to realize it took 17 minutes to get two glasses of wine from a mostly empty restaurant. There are far too many places that have better service, better leadership, and air conditioning that actually works. read more

I recently visited Ro in Hyde Park for a friend's 39th birthday celebration, and unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. Despite having a reservation for the private room, we were not seated until over an hour and fifteen minutes past our scheduled time. Once seated, it took another 15-20 minutes before anyone came by to even take drink orders. The private room itself was uncomfortable, with a noticeable number of flies throughout the space, which significantly detracted from the dining experience. The sushi, which we expected to be a highlight given Ro's positioning as a higher-end establishment, was among the most underwhelming I've had in Tampa--especially at this price point. Service was inattentive, the food quality was poor, and the overall experience did not align with the premium pricing. Sadly, I cannot recommend Ro, and I do not plan on returning. read more

I recently visited for my birthday celebration and overall had a really good experience. The atmosphere is one of the best parts of the place, it's really nice and the vibes are amazing as soon as you walk in. The service was also really good and everyone was very attentive. For the food, I honestly expected a little more from some of the dishes. The fried rice was good, but not something that really wowed me and a few other plates felt pretty similar good, but not super memorable. The sushi was the exception though. It was incredibly fresh, delicious and definitely my favorite part of the meal, you could really taste the freshness. Even though some dishes were just okey to me, I would still come back because I really enjoyed the sushi and overall experience. Had a fantastic time at the restaurant yesterday! Initially, my friend and I stopped by for a drink before exploring Hyde Park Village, but we ended up indulging in some delicious food. Our bartender during the Sunday day shift around 3pm was excellent. Although I forgot to ask for his name, he promptly prepared a delightful mocktail for me, and my friend enjoyed a well-balanced tequila drink. We decided on a spicy tuna roll, requesting it without mayo, and despite an initial hesitation, the chef kindly made an exception. The result was perfection! Something has happened here and it isn't the same as last few times we have been here. It appears new management and a few new bartenders and servers. Though adequate- the vibe is different and for the price and location, that is just as important as the food. what a shame. If your first time you may find it five star and I hope you do.
