It's a good thing I walked here because parking was nonexistent during Happy Hour on Friday. Even so, there was plenty of seating inside and I was seated right away. The waitresses were friendly, quick, and attentive, though I do wish I had been given better guidance on what to order. Based on the waitress's suggestion, I ordered the crispy rice with spicy ahi tuna, which she described as their signature dish. At only seven dollars during Happy Hour, it sounded like a safe choice. While I did enjoy the small amount of tuna on top, which was fresh and flavorful, I was not a fan of the rice underneath. The rice made up about ninety percent of the dish and was dense, chewy, and overly deep fried. It was not crispy in the way it was advertised and ended up feeling heavy. Although the tuna itself was great, the deep fried rice likely accounted for most of the calories and left me feeling disappointed and weighed down. For a restaurant that presents itself as a healthier option, this dish just did not align with what I was hoping for. In hindsight, I really wish I had ordered something else. I would have so preferred the sesame crusted tuna tataki, which clearly offers significantly more tuna, even though it is not on the Happy Hour menu. I honestly think I would have preferred almost anything else here, whether it be pasta, pizza, salad, or sushi. I am sure they have great options here and I would probably give them a much better rating had I ordered differently. The service and atmosphere were solid, but the miniscule amount of tuna and the heavily fried rice underneath really missed the mark for me. This was my first visit and i was very impressed! I made a reservation for Galentine's day and even though we were a big group we were very well taken care of. The fries were okay. Not the best I ever had but not the worst I ever had. I ordered the Original Poke Bowl and it was a good serving but not enough kale for me. The bowl was just okay as well. Not the best I have had but not the worst I have had. My friend ordered a roll that was usually on the dinner menu but they made it for her because they had the ingredients. That was really nice. As a table, we also ordered: edamame (with garlic lime butter), sourdough flatbread, and Parmesan truffle fries. The edamame and the fries had such good butter and umami flavor -- we couldn't stop eating them! We also split the tiramisu and chocolate toffee mousse cake for dessert. The tiramisu has a very light coffee flavor, but the highlight is the soft and fluffy consistency. I liked the richness of the chocolate in the mousse, with a slight hint of toffee. The waitress was very attentive and answered all our questions with good knowledge and insight. The inside has diner-esque tables with a mixture of wooden and modern fixtures. I've been to Water + Flour several times now and I can say - it's a great choice. For anyone staying at the Epicurean Hotel, this place is a quick walk up Howard. While Haven is well-known for their happy hour, I believe Water + Flour should be as well. The happy hour cocktail menu is wide enough to satisfy most everyone, and the bartenders work hard to keep those tasty beverages coming. We've been known to visit just for drinks before heading to Haven or Bern's. But the food at Happy Hour shouldn't be ignored! Excellent price and delicious options for sure. Speaking of the food, the non-happy hour foods are also a delight. I particularly love the Spicy Brazilian Nachos and the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna Ahi. One time I ordered the Diablo wrap for lunch and I couldnt even eat half of it. It was huge! And very yummy. The staff is always friendly and professional, they have great parking too. It is very rare that you see a menu with a very diverse arrangement of food, and for EVERYTHING to be amazing. Everything was great. I got the spicy salmon, Mexican bowl, and water Guacomole.
