A few years ago, my partner recommended this place when he bought both shoes and insoles. He gave me money to buy shoes and insoles myself, so I gave them a try. At first, the gait analysis and fitting felt gimmicky, but since I was playing with his money, I went through with it. I discovered, not surprisingly, that I needed a stability shoe. The staff brought out several styles in more than one size. I'm a little self-conscious about the size of my feet relative to my height, so whenever possible, I don't take their advice to go up a half size. (Hint: it's not usually possible.) I was surprised by how willing the staff was to bring out multiple shoes until I found the right pair for me. Even though they almost always have several customers and sometimes have a line, the staff members always come back to check in, but not intrusively like restaurant wait staff who ask "How is everything?" after you've just taken a bite. The insoles may seem like a gimmick at first, and they will set you back an additional $120. Since they're going to make them anyway, you should put them in your selected shoes. Like me, you will be sold! They are worth it. They will make your feet feel even better in your shoes! Finally, there's the VIP program, which gives you 10% off all purchases as well as between 5 and 15% cash back, depending on your level of membership. Holy guacamole!!! Wow! Okay, where do I begin? I am an athlete at heart. I've done sports my whole life, including running track in college. I've tried a lot of shoes out there, so it's safe to say I am a certified shoe and sneaker girlie. Attempting to take care of myself, I decided I needed custom designed sole inserts. Zack, gave me the full run down and analysis of how I walked and stood; in addition they have a machine or 2 that measure your feet true size as well as HOW you distribute your weight. I highly recommend Zack do much he's professional, knowledgeable, and understands consumer desires. Sherrene helped me find shoes, I took home two pairs and she was super sweet and patient with me. To be fair, I came on a busy Saturday so that's my bad. She did fit checks for my toes, recommended me socks for my poor circulation. She was so helpful and the kicks Zack and her recommended I bought. As well as some super cool flip flops that feel like clouds. Another team member that went above and beyond besides Zack, Sherrene, is also Adam who helped my best friends out. Honestly, it's a good value because I am not a shoe fit expert. I like road runner and the knowledge they bring when you need a specialized shoe (running, walking, etc). The customer service is really good and well organized from the time you walk through the door to the time you leave. I was able to get my foot reviewed to see what show would work best with what I was asking for and I was able to try on a couple to see if they are to my liking. I didnt purchase any, and not due to the price but I didnt like the colors. They only have so many in stock now so its really what they have is it. Leaving a late review after over a year (maybe 2) because I recently got my gait analysis and fitted for proper running shoes at another running store and realized that the info provided by road runner was incorrect. Unfortunately when I came by I was a new runner and didn't know much, so I think the associate took advantage of that unfortunately. I don't remember the associate who helped me but they were super rude about brands, mentioning that HOKAS were bad running shoes and that I shouldn't try them when I asked about them (and didn't bring any out for me to try). For sizing they also kept me in my regular shoe size, in which my feet hurt if I was running more than 20 mins. The insoles I purchased also made the sole of my foot sore, so I'm not sure if they were fitted correctly either. Not sure if I was ever supposed to show them how I run on a treadmill, as they only had me walking to check my arch. I came with another runner and we both ended up getting a pair of shoes and insoles, and they oddly enough made us combine our purchases onto one transaction but charged our cards separately (maybe to increase KPIs?) but never mentioned that to us until I saw the receipt. The difference in the assistance I received at another store vs road runner was night and day. I have no idea if this person still works at this location, but it's made me weary to revisit any road runner stores and want to warn others as usually such practices may be normalized by the team! I don't normally review these types of businesses BUT I have to create one for Zack! I came in today as a new customer and was welcomed by him and Jim. I really like the way they serve their customers here. They don't apply pressure whatsoever about their memberships. They are very informative about the company, shoes, apparel, your feet dimensions, etc. You either like it or you don't. It's hassle free. Zack taught me about different shoe companies and presented different shoes and their capabilities. He is non-judgmental and is very supportive of what you like but will present new knowledge about what other shoes have to offer as an option. We got to talk a little about our lives and our passion for shoes and how important they are in our everyday lives. He's so passionate about what he does and deserves many blessings. Came to get my Gait Analysis from seeing all the positive reviews online and the service was impeccable. I came with my girlfriend and another friend and we had the best service with CJ. He was well versed and guided us through the process very easily. He is extremely funny which dropped all the anxiety we had from feeling overwhelmed by all the options. After getting our gait results, we got a lot of shoes to try on and he explained the benefits of each different shoe he brought out. I took my parents in today and I had a bad experience. It was night and day from the experience I had when I went with my friends. There was a very short wait, but my parents did not get the video of them walking on the treadmill. The customer service associate said that for the sake of time we would not be able to do that and that doing the foot scan is the same thing. She didn't have them put on the compression socks like my sales associate did when I came in. She didn't go over their foot assessment for more than maybe 10 seconds 20 seconds. She didn't go over the video on the bigger screen to go over what was wrong with their foot and how it can be affecting them like my customer service associate. She didn't email us our assessment. I told her multiple times at the video didn't go through. She had me re-email it and really didn't seem to care. She didn't bring out any other color options until we asked about it. Overall, this wasn't the best experience compared to when I came in with my friends and I will definitely not be coming back. read more

Came to check out the store last month for some running shoe recommendations and they had a super cool shoe feet scanner to determine your perfect size and fit! The scan is free and also tells you about ankles, size, flat vs high arch and wide feet. Missha helped us out and gave us super good shoe suggestions! I left the store feeling a bit disappointed. I hadn't gone for a run in a while and was excited to treat myself to a new pair of running shoes. However, my experience didn't meet expectations. When I first walked in, it seemed like no one was interested in helping me. I stood by the shoe wall for about five minutes before a gentleman finally approached and asked if I had been helped. He was polite and offered to bring me a few options, which I appreciated but after that, he disappeared and never returned. Another associate came out of the back to check for other customers. When another person entered, she immediately started helping them. I tried to catch her attention after she finished checking them in, but she seemed reluctant and almost annoyed to assist me. She asked if someone was already helping me, and after I said yes, she tried to pass me off before begrudgingly asking what I was looking for. I showed her a shoe and asked for a larger size. She went to the back but returned a few seconds later to say they didn't have it. so quickly that it didn't seem like she even checked. At that point, I felt unwelcome and decided to leave. I just started to train to do a full marathon in the next year. I haven't been to Road Runner Sports since over a decade when I did my last half marathon. I needed to get good running shoes and wanted to get properly fitted. Came here on a Tuesday afternoon and immediately was greeted by one of the employees. She checked me in and told me someone will help me. The nice employee, Jason assisted me in getting my shoes. I did the whole foot scan and fit finder. I kind of knew what shoes I wanted to check out and luckily the ones I was thinking of, were one of the shoes recommended for me. I tried on several different pairs of shoes and finally decided on two pairs. Check out was smooth and overall experience was good. They do have offer a VIP membership which I did get. Tried on my new shoes for a run and my feet didn't hurt. I'm happy with my choices. read more

I had an elaborate and amusingly high tech fitting here, no wait as it was lunch time. So the guy, who's name I forget (sorry), walked me through these various machines that measure your ankles and tendons and foot pressure and probably other stuff too. Pretty cool, not sure if it helps a lot but it's fun. We get done and he also makes custom insoles for me, based on my type of running. If you have any joint or tendon issues the salesman can figure it out through the machines and account for that. When it's time to pick a shoe... my goodness, they have hundreds. If you don't come in knowing what you want you're kind of at the mercy of the salesman and your budget, because they have so many at so many price points. And the colors! Personally I am not a fan of flashy workout gear, but if you are then you're in luck - they have every color and combination of colors you could want. I ended up with a pair of nice gray running shoes which I've put about 10 miles on so far. And so far, so good. My feet stay cool and dry and the fit is really excellent. I don't notice my feet at all running, which is what I wanted. Price-wise this place is not cheap, I spent over $200 on the shoes and insoles. Obviously this can vary but for me it's a pretty high price for something that will wear out in a few years. But on the other hand, good running shoes can make a miserable, boring, yet necessary evil like cardio less unpleasant. So for me it's money well spent. read more

My daughter was referred here by her chiropractor for special custom inserts for her running shoes. Little did I realize that used to work a mile from here a long time ago, well before this store existed. This store reminds me of another high end "Feet" store closer to home in Pleasanton, with the exception of the custom insert capabilities. Upon walking in, I was amazed at the vast shoe selection available as well as some running gear and clothes. I immediately thought that finding a shoe would be very easy. This is a high end store, and around us, we saw very attentive staff helping a handful of customers. There's a section to sit while you're waiting for help. In the meantime, I had my daughter look at the shoes. There were a few staff members waiting around and talking to each other, not helping customers. We tried to get their attention, but to no avail. We waited for over 20 minutes for someone to even greet us. That's not what I would expect of this store. Once someone came over, he seemed very uninterested in helping us. He would talk to us and not look at us, and instead looking at other parts of the store. After getting my daughter's size and shoe preferences, he went away for a good 10 minutes before dropping shoes off to us. Then he would walk away again. I saw other staff members staying with their customers throughout their time in the store, but ours wasn't like that. Each time we needed help, it was a 5-10 minute wait. This resulted in a shoe store visit of almost 2 hours. The custom inserts were created for her and we initially thought they were going to make a difference. They didn't. In fact, they hurt her foot even more. Not the store's fault, but not worth $100. The most attentive our salesguy was with us was during checkout when we bought almost $500 in products - the inserts and 2 pairs of shoes. And then he was trying really hard to upsell their preferred shoppers program and seemed frustrated when we declined it. I was very disappointed in my experience here. Shoes are shoes - there are many high end running shoe stores in the Bay Area with similar selections of shoes. I go to these stores for the experience and service. I saw others getting much better treatment than we were, and that was really frustrating. The only reason I gave 2 stars rather than 1 was due to the vast amount of shoes they have to choose from - if you can't find a shoe here, you're probably not going to find it anywhere else. read more

But once an employee was free to help they instead moved onto someone who had just walked in after we had been patiently waiting for about 15 minutes, not even an acknowledgment of our presence. Blamed the "accounting department" for the delay. Called again and again, eventually after 9 calendar days, the rerpresentative said she would "bump it up to the accounting, but could still take two more business days". I immediately cancelled my VIP membership and don't want to have anything to do with them anymore. Already spent 1500 with them but regretted about that. My partner and I visited on a Saturday, and the store was clean with a great selection of shoes. We were excited to try on walking shoes but struggled to get help. After browsing for 10 minutes, no associates approached us or acknowledged we needed assistance. We looked at other products, hoping for a lull, but another 5 minutes passed without help. We sat on a bench and noticed new customers were being added to a waitlist on iPads at the door. It was frustrating to realize this was the process--no one informed us, and there wasn't a clear self-check-in system. I added my name to the waitlist, but after waiting over 30 minutes total with no progress, we left. I ended up ordering the shoes online, where returns are free if the size doesn't work. Never been to a shoe store like this one. It's a total experience of customer service. They check you in ,(be prepared to wait) ask what your needs are.(Walking, running,ect) assign someone to measure your feet. Then they get some insoles prepared for you. Next I was bought out 4 different shoes to try out. They ranged in price. Note there are no prices anywhere. You have to ask,or already did your research. It's nice to have all the shoes available to try on. All told I was there for over a hour trying on shoes . Finally I was able to find the right shoe. I've been shopping at RRS for over a 15 years. They have a great selection of shoes. It's the main reason I buy shoes here because of its availability of brands and models (most of the time). But the biggest problem is their sales tactics for memberships. I've gotten first hand and see it happen to others so many times. A sales associate will offer you a "Free' membership upgrade which is a paid annual membership. They'll try to convince you by saying this "Free - No cost" upgrade and we'll give you 20 percent discount on your first purchase. Keep in mind that a year from then you'll get charged $50, $70, or $100 on your credit card. The charge will be some weird name and won't list Road Runner Sports. Most people who agree and sign up do not realize that it's an annual payment. The sales associate never mentions that part. They'll constantly refer to it as a "free upgrade" which is essentially saying, "We won't charge you a fee for putting you on an annual subscription". It's extremely deceptive. For me, I'm a member, but I chose to be because I buy a lot of shoes from them and I get value out of it. Go to their website, read up on each of the membership tiers. For some people it may benefit them and in that case sign up. But it's a choice you are informed about. Unfortunately, I have a couple of friends who rarely buy shoes there who had memberships for years and didn't know it. And in order to cancel you have to call and go through a series of representatives to get it done. At the end of the day their store is clean, nice looking, and have a big selection of shoes but beware of their sales people trying to trick you into signing up for an annual membership. read more

Today I had to wait about seven or eight minutes before someone could even come to the register and greet me regarding a purchase. Road Runner was recommended to me a while back by my sister. With Taji beginning, I decided to treat myself and celebrate with a shoe/foot care splurge! I called ahead and was told it's best to come before 7:30pm to get the full experience. I'm so glad I listened! Came into the store around 7:15pm and left about an hour later with new shoes, custom inserts, and oodles of socks!
