Customer service was terrible. On a dead Monday afternoon... how can there be three workers, three other 2-3 small parties of customers, myself, and NOT able to get me a shoe size for one shoe?!!? Including me, there was a mother/son and three elder people, all with only one person trying on a shoe. I get that Road Runner prides itself on personable assistance, but you don't have to be breathing down these customers' necks as they try on their shoes while someone else is waiting. These workers need to learn how to be flexible and manage their customer attendance. I can't imagine how it is on a busy day, if yall even get that type of business. I instead went to Kearny Mesa where they had 5 TIMES the customers and I was able to be helped by one team member alongside three other customers trying on shoes in my seating area. I went in for an exchange. An associate fired off a few names of shoes from a distance between talking with another coworker after I told her why I was returning the ones I came in with. This was ok and I honestly did not mind as I like to be left alone to shop(I'm sure she got the feeling that I do and is why she helped me how she did) ,but I couldn't quite remember all the models she said. As I was browsing, I overheard Jose ask her why I was returning the pair I came in with and immediately knew the issue i was talking about. He recommended a specific pair and gave the reason why behind it, which i appreciated. I was pleasantly surprised by Jose's expertise and helpful attitude. So much so that I'm writing this review. I stopped purchasing from Road Runner Sports a few years ago, due to their questionable/borderline illegal (IMO) membership renewal tactics. That's in a previous review of mine and it wasn't at this location. Anyways, a couple weeks ago, I was at this mall in Chula Vista and decided to check the store out. I did need some shoes, but had no intention of buying here. I walked in and was instantly greeted. I could see everyone was busy, but Adela came over to help me. She was great and went over everything with me. Long story short, I was pleasantly surprised and ended up buying my first pair of HOKA's and some socks. First time coming into Road Runner Chula Vista looking for some running shoes & ready to buy. It looked promising because they had the brands I wanted like Brooks and Hoka. However, when I asked for a size there was a 20min waitlist (just to pull out a pair of shoes) and since I am a new customer the employee said they require new customers to do a stand in first. I expressed that I was just wanting to try on the shoes to see if I like the color and fit. It was upsetting because I was hoping to buy a new pair of running shoes and was ready to make the quick decision in doing so. Yes, if I had the time to go through their whole process of picking the right shoe I would but sadly I couldn't on this day. It's unfortunate for beginner runners like me who want to have an easy shopping experience for their new hobby. My husband and I happened to work on a day when Adela/Fernando were on shift. Their customer service was impeccable. They were very thorough with the shoes that were meant for our needs. Never felt rushed or felt like we were taking too much of their time. I had the pleasure of being assisted by Kam! Greetings were pleasant. He was very nice and knowledgeable about the store and products. He asked me all the right questions as I explained to him that the reason for my visit was for my very first race and basically I'm going into this process blind. He understood and proceeded with care! He throughly explained the findings and what he suggested and allowed to me try my own suggestions. I ended up filling taking his advice and choosing the shoes and the size. He didn't aggressively try to upsell me on anything. He was very patient and let me casually try on everything! I didn't feel overwhelmed or pressured in any way. I chose the ASICS as they were the most comfortable for me with the added support of the insoles! Running shoes are the ugliest but these were less ugly than the other options and felt good on my feet! End the end I bought shoes insoles and socks. Lol. And for a great deal. Unfortunately Kam had to go to lunch during my time at the store but the guy that took over was also kind and Knowledgeable. This is the newest and second location for Road Runner Sports, found where the old Justice store used to be at Otay Mall. The store is a decent size, but much smaller compared to the main store. I decided to stop by and get fitted for some new running shoes for a half marathon I'll be participating in 2024. There were about 3 people assisting customers, but I didn't find myself waiting too long to be seen. Once the staff member gets an idea of what you need your shoes for, you do a couple of different assessments. These assessments help build the correct fit for your insoles and in choosing which shoe is best for you based on your walking/running performance. There are 2 treadmills available that are used for the assessments. You'll be asked to take off your shoes AND socks, so be mindful of that! They do this so they can analyze any specific items that may contribute to any issues you have or address any modifications for improved performance. Then you'll be fitted for your insoles which end up being scanned and sent to you. The last step is trying on different shoes which you can also test out on the treadmills. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and I learned quite a lot. The whole process takes about 30-45 minutes, so be prepared as it's not a store you can jump in and out of really quick, especially if you're a first timer like I was. Oh, and I highly recommend to join their club as there are so many benefits such as 90-day guarantees, discounts, and rewards! I'll definitely be coming back in July to get my insoles refitted (part of the 90-day guarantee) and probably a second pair of shoes! read more

I don't typically write bad reviews, but I've given this store multiple chances. We came here on a Saturday, and no one assisted us. After standing for a few minutes holding a shoe I already knew I wanted...and still being ignored. I approached a sales associate who was just standing in front of a pile of shoes. She seemed to be assisting someone, but that person was nowhere in sight. She told me I needed to sign up on the waiting list, but if there was a waitlist, it wasn't obvious. It should be placed at the front so customers know the process. Still, I signed up and waited even though I already knew exactly what I wanted, including the size. Meanwhile, two employees were just standing at the front. When I finally decided to leave, one of them asked, "So, are you ready to get the shoes you want?"as if the holdup was on me. It felt like total gaslighting. I responded, "I've been waiting for 25 minutes, and I already know what I want." Then I just left. I ended up buying the shoes online instead. I came in needing new walking shoes and wanted to check out the HOKA brand and knew they had it. When I entered I was greeted right away but was told to wait a little bit for the next fit expert. I didn't mind the wait because there were only 3 employees and a bunch of people already being helped. They carry the popular products from major walking/running shoe brands, so no guarantee that you'll find the exact color/design from a specific brand in-store. I wasn't picky though and wanted to get my feet checked because comfortability was more important. So definitely keep in mind that the store won't carry every single shoe out there. Mariela helped me and walked me through the whole fitting process. The fitting process was entirely free. She explained what everything was and answered all of my questions patiently. I had a video of my walking taken on a treadmill and had a 3D analysis done on another machine. She was happy to bring out the various shoes and sizes I wanted to try and even asked if I wanted to try on more. She also verbally let me know to not feel pressured to purchase any add ons and I appreciated that! Mariela is the sweetest! Military discount accepted! For some context: I'm a 37 year old man and I'm about 6 months into my fitness journey - gearing up for a half marathon in June. I have a couple pairs of shoes I used so far: an old pair of ASICS (literally 7+ years old) and some adidas I picked up from Costco for ~$20. As my distance is continuing to increase with my runs (running 3x/week - two ramping "maintenance" runs and a longer distance "milestone" run) I wanted to get a good pair of shoes to support. I had heard good things about Road Runner and their customer service in general. I was pleasantly surprised to see a new addition at the Otay Ranch mall, so I decided to go with my wife to check it out. Within 30 seconds of walking in we were greeted by one of the salespeople (sadly I didn't catch anyone's name but they were all fantastic), where I briefly summarized what I was hoping to do: get a pair of shoes for training for a half marathon. He led me to their scanner and helped introduce me to the process, and after the scan reviewed the findings and what it meant for the kinds of shoes he would recommend/bring out. I really appreciated his knowledge and confidence, as well as the transparency on what the next steps would look like. After the scan and first couple recommendations (a pair of New Balance and the new ASICS Nimbus 25) our initial sales rep had to step away, but there was a seamless handoff and the next associate was just as accommodating. I asked to try out some Hokas and other light-weight shoes for the actual run itself. Got some great recommendations, and while I ultimately just left with the Nimbus, I know which Hokas I want to get next time. One thing I noticed was that both of the gentlemen I worked with were very skilled at the "soft-sell". I never felt pressured to buy the VIP membership or the orthopedic inserts, but I understood the value before leaving. I've visited this store 4 times now and religiously buy with Road runner online. San Diego only has two locations, I always come in ready to buy. I'm also a member. I don't live near this location so yes it is a far drive for me. I drove long ways just to receive terrible customer service. The last 2 visits at this location I had to wait more than 15 minutes to be helped with 3-4 associates just standing around and not assisting any customers on a Sunday at 1:40pm. It's disheartening that they aren't willing to help paying customers but instead stand around and gossip... I tried to give this location one more chance and seeing other reviews with the same complaints, at this point I'd rather buy online or take my money elsewhere like the Kearny location. My sister and I had an amazing experience with the assistant store manager at this store Lisa! We originally went to Kearney Mesa to get our true fit test and our shoes we got ended up hurting while we were running. When we went to return them we learned that we were given shoes that didn't meet our stability needs and also that we were measured incorrectly. Lisa took the time to ask questions, be patient, and make sure that we understood what our scans showed. She also went above and beyond by not only ensuring she looked at how we walked to make sure she looked beyond the scans, but also to even come in on her vacation day! My sister was running a half marathon in a few days and in order to help her get the right shoes before her race she advised her on which shoes could be broken in quickly and came in on her off day and worked with us personally to ensure my sister got the shoes that meet her race day needs and rescan her. Lisa truly went above and beyond and I can truly say that I will be going to her with all of our future shoe needs! She made this a true 5 star experience! She is truly patient, kind, and knowledgeable! This is a new smaller more local store than the one(s) most people coming here to buy shoes, socks, or various other running related things have (probably) gone (farther) to before. I liked it more than the almost overwhelmingly large main store in Kearny Mesa, so am glad I came to see what was here during a weekend event. I assume that on a non-promotional weekend, there will be less people in the store at a time, and that there will be less wait for everything. They offer a free gait analysis so I signed up to find out what it would show - and recommend. First they ask a lot of questions and then video walking barefoot on a treadmill before using a drone to somehow measure the feet standing. I was surprised that they recommended a half size larger shoe than expected but after trying both sizes on, I discovered the recommended size felt more comfortable. During the consult, they will probably recommend custom insoles, which can cost almost as much as shoes. They are not corrective orthotics but are molded to the current shape of the feet to make shoes fit better and provide better customized support than whatever insoles come with new shoes. I decided to get a pair of both insoles and shoes (in the larger sizes) and am curious how much difference I might notice. Apparently, if, within the first 90 days, I don't like them, I can bring them back. I'm not sure if that's just to ask for a refund or to change shape/fit of one or both. While getting out my credit card to pay, one of the sales associates noticed I had a military ID and told me that qualified me for an additional discount. After 10 minutes of being stared at by employees some guy came up and asked what we wanted. We said we were hoping for some service or to at least be greeted. The employee (guy with dreads) asked if everything was ok in a condescending tone as though we were ridiculous for being frustrated by their lack of efforts. He tried to skirt his way around not acknowledging us. We decided to go to the much larger RRS all the way across town where the difference in service and selection is night and day. Otay Ranch store is pretty small. No one greeted us or asked us if they could help (and there was no other customers). When other customers came in they were asked if they needed help. When we finally did get someone to help, they measured my feet and said I was a size 9 wide. It turned out I was actually a 7 1/2 regular. Maybe a little more training is needed. The selection is descent and the prices are typical for the brands they carry. Had to get the shoes I wanted shipped because they didn't have my size in stock. read more
