Just know that the sales associates hover while you're trying to decide on shoes and then hard-sell you on a membership. They tell you they'll email your receipt, but they don't confirm your email address. They also mention that the membership will automatically renew in six months and that you'll receive an email reminder if you want to cancel. What I find strange is that the email address I entered myself on their tablet for the foot scan results came through immediately, but I still haven't received the receipt email. When I try to verify the membership on their website, it says I don't have one. I called the store, and the person I spoke with said my email had been entered incorrectly (a letter and number was swapped) and that I should receive my receipt by the end of the day. What concerns me is that no one ever asked me for my email address during checkout or asked me to verify it, despite signing me up for a membership with an automatic renewal. I assumed there wouldn't be an issue because I had already entered my email myself for the foot scan, but somehow my email was still entered incorrectly on their end. I've never had an emailed receipt take that long from any other retailer, and their website still says I don't have a membership. I'll check again tomorrow, and if these issues still aren't resolved, I'll contact my bank to block any future recurring charges. The whole experience just felt strange. If you're looking for a running store, go to Fleet Feet in Portland. I had an amazing experience there. I would not recommend this store to anyone. read more

I was visiting Portland when I realized I forgot some shoes I needed. Fortunately I discovered I could get them here. It was very easy walking in and being directed to them. The sales associate didn't hover. When I went to check out, I was asked about their membership program. I was told it was $5, and it would save me $10 on my purchase. I'm assuming it's a one-time cost (check with the store if you're interested). I explained that I don't live in Oregon, to which I learned they ship products! But, he respected my decline as I support a local family store in my home city. Also, the price of my shoes was market competitive, which was nice to see. read more

EDIT: the store now claims that the charge is due to a yearly membership. But this is burying the lead. It shouldn't be possible for somebody to make one little purchase in person and walk away without knowledge that they have been signed up for some silly subscription. Even when I contacted customer service, they were unable to locate my "account" with my full name, email, and last 4 digits of my credit card number. These guys are nothing more than con artists in hokas. I made one purchase in store from Road Runner Sports in Portland, OR (29 NW 23rd Pl, Portland, OR 97210, United States) almost a year ago on 11/11/23. I just received a $49.99 charge from the store: "ROAD RUNNER SPORTS-119". Luckily my card was deactivated so the false charge did not go through but this points to 2 big problems: 1. Road Runner Sports stored my unencrypted credit card info without my consent. 2. Road Runner Sports or somebody with access to their system attempted to make a false charge. Searching online it seems this is very common practice for Road Runner Sports. This is supposedly for a "membership" for which I never signed up and never consented on joining. I finally made the walk up to RRS after a few years of half-committed running and I am so glad that I stopped by. Aysha immediately welcomed me to the store, and gave me a quick summary of what I should be looking for here. We got started right away with the movement exercises on the treadmill to log my running and walking movement at foot and leg level. After some analysis, we were able to setup a few custom insoles to help me on my next running adventures. Aysha was very kind and explanatory throughout the experience, and I am thrilled with the results of the insoles. We also learned more about the types of runners or gym shoes that I should be using, and I was definitely surprised to have been ill fitted elsewhere... (looking at you, ON). Aysha did a great job and I left the store with a new pair of gym shoes, insoles, and a smile. I will definitely be back. This team seems great. read more

Running shoes typically have high markups. And returns may be higher than many products because of issues of fit, injury and comfort. Also, fast shipping can be important. Unfortunately Road Runner Sports falls down in most of these areas. Shipping, depending on location is not particularly fast. Their VIP program is expensive and difficult to cancel by design. Shoes that have been worn once outside in dry weather conditions can only be exchanged. And their web site makes clear they can deny returns if they deem them excessive. The overall web and in store experience is a kind of "got ya" experience. I have foot injury issues, so issues like fast shipping, good pricing and a flexible return policy are important, when selecting a new shoe brand or model. This place looked like a good option for running shoes as they have a big selection and are not a corporate behemoth like Zappos or Amazon. And they do have a wide selection and knowledge staff. But be prepared to be bombarded. First, they do a whole assessment of your walking style which includes filming you on a treadmill. This gives some helpful info on what type of shoes to look for. But it's all kind of awkward and time consuming and then you realize it's mainly to upsell you to purchase $100 custom inserts. Then they try to sell you a complicated membership. Then they try to get you to give a charitable donation. I left there feeling exhausted from repeatedly saying "no thanks." Staff were nice but seemed pressured to get you to purchase all that extra stuff. read more

I bought shoes, Hokas. Brought them back within the trial period. I explained that I hadn't had time to do the trial due to knee and back pain. I was told "don't worry about it" and "take your time" but had nothing in writing except a verbal understanding. After an additional couple months I determined through trial and error that the shoes were associated with worsening knee and low back pain. I took the shoes back but this time was told that I'd exceeded the trial period. So over all I remain a dissatisfied customer. read more

Roza was super kind, encouraging, and helpful as well as the rest of the store staff. As a plus size runner some running spaces can be scary but it was so validating to have my experience heard and then catered to when getting fit for new shoes! The fit experience was comprehensive and guided smoothly, the insert process was explained thoroughly, and in general everyone was understanding and accommodating. Wanted to check into the yelp page to do the 10% off promotion offer that was showing on the yelp page but when I asked the guy at the front desk that was checking me out he said he had no idea what that was or how to apply the promotion. How does an employee not know the promotion they are running? Very disappointed with the customer service here and hope the employees get a training on the current promotions. SCAM! The will find a way to steal from you. They sucked my into becoming a "VIP" member and then they auto-charged my account more and more every year. I have not been tracking payment for years and now I realized that I am paying almost 80 dollars a year for fees and getting 10 to 15 dollars off sneaks. I've been here a couple times for shoes. I've had my feet measured for what kind of fit I needed- although it says 8, all the sales rep failed to realized that I needed wide. So, they try to fit me into a smaller size than what I need and normalized it saying it should be snug. They aren't here to provide customer services they are here to convince you to buy things that you don't need. They seem to pass me by because I'm not a typical runner stereotype. read more

I walked in here with an unlimited amount to spend, fully expecting to buy a new pair of shoes. Instead I left with nothing. Every pair of shoes I looked at either didn't fit well (too narrow), were too unattractive, or too cheaply constructed. And there was the second hand pair of Hokas with dried mud on them for $88 that I was considering, but the amount of mud on them was ridiculous. The entire bottom of the left shoe had mud residue. Someone probably intimidated them into taking them back for a refund. I was at the Timberland store about 6 months ago and paid around $150 for a very uncomfortable but sturdy pair of boots. It seems that during the past 10 years, all shoes have become overpriced junk. I haven't owned a decent pair of shoes since the Timberlands I bought 10 years ago at Fred Meyer and wore for over 5 years working in a warehouse. Road Runner Sports is in a very high rent area so is way overpriced. Despite that, I would have paid the $159 for a pair of shoes that go for $30 at Ross Dress for Less had I been able to find a nice looking pair that wasn't overseas constructed junk. "Nice looking" almost doesn't exist at this store, most of the shoes are weird bright colors with designs. Wealthy people and serious runners must love this place for its high level of service, which was useless to me. I just wanted to grab a pair of shoes and go. I ended up getting a pair of Skechers at Ross for $35. read more

Don't plan on using their Yelp check-in deal! They won't honor it. I was told that they can only offer the 10% off check-in deal if I signed up for their VIP program, which costs $19.99 for one year. However, by joining the program then I would get 10% off all purchases anyway and the Yelp deal would be irrelevant. Why offer a check-in discount if you will only honor it when I sign up for your VIP program that automatically offers a discount anyway? Also know that by walking into this store, you will feel pressured by the employees to make a purchase for shoes, insoles and whatever else they may offer you. I have mutant feet. Like wide, soft, prehensile waffles. I've never been able to find a running shoot that fit perfectly: either I had to upsize to get the width I needed, or I'd get the right length in a shoe that wasn't wide enough and my feet would hurt/burn on the outer edges where I was crammed up against stitching, plastic support stuff, whatever. My wife told me about Roadrunners and the foot measurement stuff and told me I had to try. First time at Roadrunner's yesterday - awesome experience. I worked with Effy (amazingly helpful and hilarious) - she scanned my feet and took me through the entire experience. Multiple brands, multiple styles, shoes I'd never heard of...worked our way through to find the right pair for me. She gave me a darn HOUR which was so nice. Great experience! read more

I've been buying custom molded shoe inserts at RRS for many years now. Like to have multiple pairs for my casual shoes. I've had doctor ordered inserts , custom molded inserts at arch fitters. RRS custom inserts are by far the quickest & easiest to get use to. This last visit I was helped by Cesar Perez who had a great deal of knowledge about inserts & shoes that might benefit my feet. My only question is why are the RRS inserts ( which only last as long as a pair of running shoes about 9 months ) priced the same as my arch fitters inserts which can be refitted again & again , year after year with new padding ? read more

After spending 30 minutes at Road Runner Sports I learned the following things: 1. I have extremely high arches in my feet 2. I have wide feet 3. I walk by using my heels first Because of this I've been wearing the wrong type of running shoes for the duration of my adult life! I can't say enough positive things about my visit to Road Runner Sports. I originally went in to just look at some shoes for an upcoming 5k that I started to train for but ended up taking their shoedog diagnostic test and finding out I've been wearing the wrong type of running shoes because of my feet and running style. Brian performed the diagnostic test on me and he couldn't have been more helpful and informative. The test, which is absolutely free, analyzed the type of foot I have, thus the high arches, and how I run. From the test he was able to fit me with a custom orthotic. The entire test took about 12 minutes. I never felt pressured to purchase anything during the test. Brian analyzed all of my results and was able to tell me what type of shoe I probably should be wearing. After taking the test and talking to Brian, he then introduced me to Krista who was the "shoe guru and expert." Brian explained to Krista my test results and from there Krista fitted me in about 8 different pairs of shoes. She is definitely an expert when it comes to the fit and style of each shoe. She was very patient while I went through each shoe, debating the positives and negatives of them. She also put in the custom orthotic Brian fit me for in each of the shoes that I tried on and I could immediately feel the difference. I eventually choose a pair of New Balances that felt perfect! I highly recommend anyone looking for athletic shoes or apparel to visit Road Runner Sports. I've never experienced the type of customer service that I received there. Krista even brought out a dog bed for my beagle to lay in while I was trying on my shoes! Her energy and sense of humor was a breath of fresh air in the otherwise mundane retail world! Their prices are very competitive and they also price match. I signed up for the VIP program and received 20% off of my purchase. I've never had a negative experience at the Portland, OR location - not one. I'm a triathlete and marathoner, logging close to 100 miles a month, year round. The staff at Road Runners on 23rd are extremely caring, knowledgeable, experienced, supportive and friendly. The Portland location is relationship-driven and live what they preach; from moderate distance runners to ultra marathoners and triathletes. Don't be surprised to see staff participating in local events and weekly fun runs, right along with their customers. Parking is shared with other businesses and monitored by an attendant. It's reasonable considering it's down town and FREE. Issues that arise can be brought to the staff whom will make every effort to assist towards a resolution. Up-sales? What shoe location allows you opportunity to "love them or leave them" within a 90-day window? Think of it as an annual insurance policy. There is no buyer's remorse under the VIP program. Members receive coverage along with deep-seeded discounts. VIP Reward Members get points and return rewards (think Costco Executive Membership). My membership has already paid for itself. I went in because I wanted to buy a replacement pair of shoes. I knew which ones I wanted and worked for me. You will have no freedom in this store. I got sucked into getting my feet scanned, getting insoles fitted (the insoles are terrible btw) and shoes chosen for me. I was given no room to speak up and i got ripped into buying a pair of shoes I don't like and that feel wrong. While this Road Runner Sports has a smaller selection than the one I used to frequent in Seattle, it's still a Road Runner Sports! Which means great perks like the Shoe Dog gait analysis and the VIP discount (totally worth the yearly $25 fee to get things like free shipping, a 10% discount on everything, and frequent coupon mailers throughout the year). My recent visit was for a pre-HTC shopping binge (with mailed coupon in hand, naturally!); they had everything I needed from LED lights to new Superfeet to compression socks. I always love getting to chat with the staff; the guy I talked to was also doing HTC for the first time, so we traded tips and questions for a while. Everyone's always not only helpful and friendly but passionate and knowledgeable about running. Especially if you're a new runner, this should be your first stop to get outfitted! Embarking on running can be intimidating, but these folks will make it much less so, and will be excited that you're going to become one of them. Unfortunately they don't carry my cult-favorite running shoes (in-store at least), so my reasons to stop in aren't too numerous. Yet I still keep an eye out for sales (they have great sale prices on running clothes), so I'll be back. Having abundant parking in their lot is a big plus as well, considering that most Portland running stores lack this useful feature. I do also support the small local shops too (Fit Right NW is in my neighborhood), but it's great living in a running city that wants and needs a plethora of options. And here I am calling their 800 Customer Care line to get a refund. I will wait the 3-5 business days for the refund to my checking account. If this does not show up, you can guarantee a dispute to the charge and a listing with the local Better Business Bureau. So run as far as you can away from these folks and their VIP program! read more

Cesar at Road Runner was extremely helpful yesterday! The service was attentive, and he clearly knew what he was talking about. I have a foot injury and he explained exactly where my feet needed the most support. He made inserts that molded to my feet, and my shoes are so comfortable now! He also found me a variety of stability shoes that work with my injury. Knowing I'd have to wear these shoes most days of the week, I was somewhat particular about the colors and style of the shoe. He was very encouraging and patient with me as I tried them on over and over. It was a great experience altogether! read more
