I was told how great this store is by a consumer of mine, so we decided to give it a try! We were greeted right when we walked in, told if we needed anything to come get checked in. I went in knowing exactly what I wanted, they are a birthday gift and I already have this pair for myself! So I grabbed the Hoka shoes I wanted took them up to him and got my name put in the little tablet with the shoes and size I wanted. My husband found a pair he wanted to try on so he got all checked in and then we waited.. and waited and waited. As employees kept coming in and out of the back room just looking out the door with tables in hand and did nothing! The other employees were helping other customers. they have a lot going on there with treadmills to try running with the shoes, they have some other stuff that helps to show how you stand and what kind of support you need. Looking around it seemed like a complete cash grab! Good for them for selling the illusion! So we waited about 30 min before one of the guys was like I'll take care of you guys soon! My husband asked for 3 different pairs of running shoes, he brought out one that was correct the others he said they didn't have the right color but here are these ones! As he tried on his shoes, I let the young man know I just needed the ones I picked out and I wanted to buy them no need to try them on! I feel at that moment he knew there was no up sale for me and he was kind of short after that! So my husband picked the ones he wanted, we went up to pay and he hit us with the VIP package $20 dollars to be able to try the shoes for 90 days and if we didn't like them we could return them! We declined the offer, he kept trying to the point where the other gentleman stepped in a little more FIRM TONED and said " if you do not do the VIP package you will not be able to retain your shoes if put on outside the store, they need to be on brand new shape not worn at all." We said that's ok thank you we understand. They still tried putting us in the system and said it's in case we forgot the receipt if we wanted to return then we wouldn't be able to! It's like you all just told us we weren't going to be able to anyway. No thanks! About$400 dollars later we say thank you and they said Nothing! No GOOD BYE NO THANKS FOR SHOPPING HERE.. nothing We were nonexistent when we didn't take the bait! If I didn't need to head out of town I would have waited on the gift and gone else where. I come by here a lot because they are close to home. The staff has always been nice and helpful. Road Runner Sports specializes in shoes and gear for serious runners. They have a good amount of stuff here. I usually come here for more accessory items that I might need on my runs. I picked up a Nathan's camelback once and love it. Other than that, most of the apparel and shoes are out of my price range. Road Runner Sports is a pickup spot for many of the running events in the East Valley. I've been a loyal customer of this business for years and have spent thousands of dollars here on shoes, apparel, running gear, and triathlon equipment. I even joined their VIP program because I believed in supporting them. However, one major downside that has been consistent is the long wait time every time I visit. Despite that, I decided to give them another try on October 10, 2025. I went straight to the front desk as soon as I arrived and checked in with a male staff member, who told me I was next to be helped. While waiting, I noticed they assisted another customer who had arrived after me. When I asked about it, the front desk staff insisted that person was ahead of me -- which I know for a fact was not true, because I had a brief interaction with that individual in the parking lot before entering the store. I had also confirmed with the staff member that I was next in line. It's frustrating and disappointing to experience poor customer service, especially as someone who has supported this establishment for years. They did their foot scanner thing, which said I should be wearing a size 11 shoe (I've always worn a size 9/9.5). The store associate brought me all size 10 shoes after I gave some pushback. I tried shoe after shoe in store and felt extremely pressured by the associate to get the 10 versus my normal size. I am now 4 months into a pair of new balances that don't fit, there's no way to return them (and hasn't been, it's not like a waited four months to consider returning them- you have to join a MEMBERSHIP with them to return anything worn outside of the store. I wanted to return them after my first run but didn't purchase their membership), and they were $160. Extremely disappointed in this store. read more

Terrible experience. Got a fitting- was sold on the membership and was told the benefits of being a member. One of those benefits is having a "90 day perfect fit guarantee". On their website the definition of that is " take home ANYTHING and run in them for 90 days. Love 'em or return 'em" I bought two pairs because I couldn't decide which one would be better for my post ACL surgery knee. I explained to them that the only way I would know which pair worked was to run in them. They told me that wasn't a problem, I had 90 days. I thought I was being so considerate to only run in them TWICE to see if they worked for me. I tried to return them just now and they said that they can't do that because they were worn. WHAT?? Predatory sales tactics from start to finish. I came here to buy a park of trail runners that I knew I liked because I tried them on in another store but they didn't have the color I wanted. As soon as I entered the store I was asked to create a profile so they could "find the best shoe for me". I had already told them I knew which shoe I wanted but they insisted so I went along with their process. The saleswoman took measurements of my feet and then made me some custom molded insoles based on the measurements (I didn't ask for this to be done). During the measurement process I was told to put on a pair of their socks for the measurement process which magically got carried over to the show trying on process. I insisted that I use my own socks because I did no intention of buying their cheaper ones. While I tried on the shoes the saleswoman continued to push the house brand socks and the custom molded insoles. I stuck with the pair of shoes I originally came in for and politely declined the socks. When I got to the register the cost came up more than double the cost of the shoes so I thought there must have been an issue. Apparently the insoles rang up in the range of $160. That was more than the cost of the shoes. I declined the insoles and just bought the shoes. After I left I thought about this longer and realized how elaborate the sales schemes were. The price of the insoles were never mentioned until we hit the register. They weren't even mentioned until half way through the measurement process. These insoles that were custom fitted to me were now going to be thrown away because I declined them. If they were really worth the asking price, the business would be completely under in a month from all of the customers declining the product that costs more than the original good they were there for. Insoles should not be $160, and having a "family plan" (also $20 to start) bringing them down to $107 does not make it any better. The price of their shoes are fine but the sales tactics for first time customers buying shoes and being guilted into buying $160 insoles or having them thrown away is sad. Finally their return policy is abysmal. Unless you pay them an extra $20 for their membership program there are absolutely no returns on shoes. Not even a 7 day policy. Most of the customers in the store said that they were new and I imagine that is because this business has a hard time getting repeat business after folks realize they fell for the sales tricks. read more

First off it took 20 minutes to be helped. Apparently putting up stickers is more important than my needs as a customer. After that I was passed on to an employee that was leaving in 10 minutes to then be passed on to another employee who was not as nice and knowledgeable as the other employee which meant I had to explain myself twice. At the end I gave this store almost $500.00 of my money to find out that the employee put an incorrect address and I needed to take time out of my Lunch to call UPS to see what the hell is going on. Employee ALEXIS put an incorrect address and an incorrect business name. I waited 4 days for my shoes to come in and with all these mistakes they don't know if my package was left at a random location or I would have to wait until Tuesday. Which will make it 9 days waiting for a $500 dollar order. Mind you guys I just came off on an injury which is why I came to this store so, I'm feeling nothing but pain and discomfort all these days so I was excited for my order to come in. $500 dollars is no joke now a days and it's sad that this is the level of customer service people receive now a days. Then someone said they would only help me if they measured and checked my feet. I politely declined as I have $500 inserts from my podiatrist and his approval on my shoe size. Can't speak higher about my experience today with Ronnin. She took over an hour to work with me, scan my feet, walk me through the whole process and pick out as many shoes as I needed. I never felt rushed but felt genuinely understood and comfortable. She took the time to understand exactly my situation as more than just a customer but as a person. Public service announcement the *complimentary* foot analysis is actually required in order to try on any shoes. It does not matter if you go in knowing exactly what shoes you want to purchase. Not advertised at all outside of the store as a requirement I went in today hoping to buy a pair of $200 brooks running shoes and went in knowing which pair I wanted to try on and purchase. When entering the store, I was informed that in order to be allowed to purchase any shoes I must first 1. Complete a shoe analysis and 2. Have a discussion of said goals with shoes. I was informed that there was a minimum 25 minute wait to complete the shoe analysis and it was not an option to simply try shoes on that I went in knowing fit me and wanted to purchase. I recently signed up for a marathon and didn't know where to start, Rionne provided me with all the resources I needed to succeed on my race, it doesn't get better than that! We tried out many shoes, socks, and insoles until we got it right. She was so friendly and would come back again and refer all my friends to her, she knew her stuff and what a great deal! I invested in me and they have military discount not to mention a great vip package where you get 10% off all your purchases. I ended up saving over $60.00. Fantastic! First time in this store, and they had great customer service. Was greeted immediately and offered to help us find what I was looking for. Came in for a gift card for a friend's birthday, but she stated that they are making some changes and gift cards weren't available in the store. But she offered us the solution to go to their website to print out or email giftcards. Perhaps I'm old school and was looking for a physical gift card, but it seemed odd that they didn't have them in store. Nonetheless, it is a great store with a lot of great athleisure wear and tons of running shoes for all types of runners. A Disgraceful Experience at Road Runner Sports - Tempe, AZ I have never felt more unwelcome or disrespected in a retail environment than during my recent visit to Road Runner Sports in Tempe, Arizona. What was meant to be a simple shopping experience quickly turned into one of the most unprofessional and unpleasant interactions I have ever encountered, all due to an employee named Gene. Upon entering the store, I browsed the selection of shoes and, needing assistance, signed up for help as instructed. While waiting, I observed Gene interacting with other customers and was immediately taken aback by his abrasive, condescending, and outright rude demeanor. He barked orders at people rather than assisting them, making no effort to provide a welcoming or helpful experience. His tone was short, dismissive, and impatient--completely unacceptable for someone in customer service. Based on what I had witnessed, I specifically requested any associate other than Gene when I checked in. Unfortunately, my request was disregarded, and Gene was assigned to assist me anyway. Rather than making the best of the situation, I found myself subjected to the same dismissive and aggressive treatment I had seen him give others. From the moment he approached me, his attitude was hostile. Instead of a greeting, he immediately began barking orders, telling me where to place my foot and giving instructions in the most unprofessional and discourteous manner imaginable. Still, I tried to be patient, assuming this was just his way of communicating. However, things escalated when I asked for his professional recommendation on the best type of running shoe for my needs. Rather than offering any guidance, he responded with a sarcastic and condescending remark, saying, "I don't know, you should know what shoe you want before you come in here." I was stunned. As someone coming to a specialty running store for expert assistance, I expected a knowledgeable and helpful response--not to be dismissed and ridiculed for simply asking a question. Despite this, I remained calm and proceeded to ask about On Cloud shoes. His response? He outright questioned whether helping me was even worth his time, saying: "Am I wasting my time helping you?" At that point, I could no longer ignore his hostility. I directly told him that his behavior was completely unacceptable and that he was being rude to every customer he interacted with. Rather than continuing to subject myself to this unprofessionalism, I made the immediate decision to leave and take my business elsewhere. This was, without a doubt, the worst customer service experience I have ever had. I cannot understand how Road Runner Sports allows an employee like Gene to remain on staff, given his disrespectful attitude and complete lack of customer service skills. If this is the level of service this location deems acceptable, I will never return, and I strongly encourage others to avoid this store unless they want to be belittled and disrespected for simply trying to buy a pair of shoes. To management: I highly suggest you reevaluate the way this store operates and hold your employees to a higher standard. No paying customer should be treated this way. read more

Very impressive. Larry helped us with finding the right shoes for tennis. At first he didn't find them, but decided to go back and see if someone else had put them back in the wrong place, and he found them. He also got my nephew set up with custom insoles right there on the spot for $89 (pretty cool to watch them being made), which is so much nicer than paying the podiatrist $500 and waiting 2 weeks. The prices here are regular retail, as expected, but membership has a lot of benefits. read more

SERIOUS EMPLOYEE TRAINING NEEDED HERE‼ worst service imaginable. waited here yesterday and today to just try on one pair of shoes (never got there in two days at this store) for some reason they can only work with one person at a time (again, just needed a singular pair of shoes, zero help other than that so not sure why they couldn't provide). wasted almost 30 min yesterday before i gave up and left (there was literally three people in the store including me and i was so disappointed they couldn't get me one box of shoes, some employees were just walking around doing closing duties instead of helping guests). came back today hoping it was a fluke but it was not... they were *slightly* busy and even worse service, nobody greeted or checked me in while i stood there for 10 min before giving up and walking out. they didn't even know who walked in first when they started checking people in and could see myself waiting another 30 min and just LEFT. def lost business with me and an overall bad bad experience at this specific location. ps. just looked at other reviews and saw someone say the same exact thing about waiting with zero help but they lasted up to 45 min that was posted two weeks ago. i suggest higher management step in here because even with no people in the store the employees ignore helping people and do not move quickly. this is a RUNNING store yall.... pick up the pace and retrain your people or hire new ones who can maintain a fast-paced retail environment. abysmal here at the moment and ill never go back! read more

Huge shout out to Tony! I really appreciated that he not only told me what the heel drop was for the 2 different shoes I was considering, he showed me how/where to find this info for other shoes on the site. There's little variation in the price point for shoes here, and the real differences are Stability vs Neutral and Max Cushion vs Normal Cushion. It's truly not more complicated than that, BUT the Road Runner Sports store concept is tough: you truly can't browse and try on without interacting with a salesperson. The shoe buying process has been so discouraging because most experts show their expertise by making you feel dumb. There were at least 2 other customers also shopping, but Tony helped me too and hit the perfect balance of being available and helpful without hovering. I was able to come to my best decision by getting the info I needed, the options on my feet, and the space to make up my own mind without pressure. I've got what I need now to train running for my first time ever for a triathlon, so I'm feeling good again. Thank you again Tony! read more

I came into this location around 4pm today looking for a specific type of hokas for work. I found them on the display and when the employee came up to me a specifically told him that's what I wanted. He then informed me since I had never been here before I needed to do a fit test. When I said I didn't want to he said that it needed to be done even though I just wanted to purchase the shoes. Did the fit test and they then brought out the shoes I wanted and put the insoles in them. I tried them on and walked around was happy with the shoes and said I wanted to purchase them. Then the employee asked me if I wanted the insoles and I said yes because he came off like they came free with the shoes because he never told me there was an extra cost. He then asked me if I wanted the socks also and I told him no. He also asked if I wanted to sign up for the $20 vip membership to get 10% of my purchase and I agreed to that. Went up to the register and he rang me up and told me my price and I didn't put two to two together till I got the receipt that I had been charged $108 for the insoles. Road runner charged my visa $49 without my approval. I NEVER signed up for their annual program. It's not right to take money and not provide a service. This is really NOT cool. The supervisor didn't seem to realize how serious this is. I went in to ask for a refund. I did not leave with a credit receipt in hand. It has left a sour taste in my mouth. Road runner seems to retain people's credit card numbers in their system. This seems like a security breach. It's a bummer because I like the idea of custom insoles. Solution? All customers pay cash. Beware of the membership program. It may be approximately $20 for the first year and approximately $50 for the second year automatic renewal. The process of finding good running shoes can always be hard so it's nice to know that there is still a "brick" shop that's open where you can actually go through the process to find the best fit shoes for you. You don't have to do it all the time but it does give you a great baseline for what you need and they have a great selection of shoes. Even if you compare the shoes to prices online you'll find that they pretty much match or beat most of the prices. Manage to go in as I was long overdue for a new pair of running shoes. I usually go for the Brooke style to provide me the best support as I'm super flat-footed. The staff was very helpful and eventually I place my order online when I return back to the store to pick up my order. Not a big fan of the gel inserts that they sell as they are very expensive but again they're completely optional so I would suggest not even bothering read more

I stood around for about an hour before going up to a free employee at the register and asked how much longer I'd have to wait. Employee mentioned that many events were going on. I waited the queue just to find out they did not have the size of the single pair I wanted. None of the employees (Chris or Jayden) wanted to grab me the pair of shoes I was interested in until they sized me. Chris even brought out 2 sizes of the wrong design and she wouldn't tell me they didn't have it in my size. I didn't want to waste my time and wouldn't do it unless they had the pair.
