In the late summer of 2009 my husband and I were preparing for a move from Massachusetts to Florida. We relentlessly scoured the web for movers, reading company histories, customer reviews, BBB complaints and commendations. I generally hold people to a very high standard and consider myself difficult to please; when it came to handing my worldly possessions over to strangers these standards were raised even higher. Of all of the companies we considered, Road Runner stood out for their professionalism during initial phone calls and their in-home estimate they provided to me. We chose to use Road Runner and could not have been happier to have done so. If you are considering a move and are concerned about how your things will be packed, loaded, hauled, and unloaded, I *strongly* recommended Road Runner Moving and Storage. During the initial estimate they were very polite, knowledgeable and thorough. The estimator (who was also my driver) had quick, accurate, and polite answers to all of my questions (and I had a ton of them). During the packing and loading the team that showed was very polite and FAST. They loaded my entire place onto the truck in a few hours. My husband and I watched like a hawk to make sure our near-new furniture was treated properly, and it was. I couldn't have been more careful if I did it myself. During transit they kept in thorough contact with me to let me know where they were, and to refine their estimated delivery date. They delivered within their estimated delivery window, and I knew exactly when to expect them. Due to unrelated circumstances, I had to back out of the rental house they were delivering to. It was a great relief that they were willing to change delivery locations without making a big deal out of it. During unloading we, again, watched them like hawks to make sure our stuff was treated with the respect it deserved, and it was. They were as careful unloading as they were loading. Not one of my items was damaged. One of the boxes had gotten a little squished, which they pointed out to me without me asking. They opened the box and left me with it to review the contents while they continued unloading. Nothing had broken, but it was good to know that if something *had* broken they were interested in doing the right thing and not hiding it from me. In summary: Road Runner does good, honest business. Their prices are very competitive but don't be fooled - you get top-dollar service without paying top dollar. These guys know the moving business and they do it well. Can I give 10 stars? Roadrunner exceeded all of my expectations. I had been stressed for weeks about moving from Cambridge to NYC (I'm pretty anal), but from the first time I spoke with Roadrunner (I worked with Dave in the office), I knew that I was working with true professionals. They gave me a fair quote and laid out all the charges and explained exactly what they'd be doing beforehand. Dave responded to all my emails (including lots of dumb questions) within a few hours and was super friendly. When he came to my place to give me a full quote, we ended up chatting for almost an hour about books, cooking, work and everything else. An incredibly friendly, funny, bright and interesting guy. The movers were just as awesome. Danny, Stefan and Terrance showed up right on the dot and worked quickly and efficiently to carefully wrap all of my furniture, lamps and electronics. They were serious perfectionists, and would wrap tables and shelves with hospital corners, thick blankets and tight giant rubber bands to make sure everything was as secure as possible. Watching them, I felt totally at ease, because I knew they were treating my things as if they were their own. In addition to being 100% professional, extremely hard working, friendly and detail-oriented, they were just a blast to be around. They were hilarious, and had a witty banter going on between them the whole time. This eased my worries even more and distracted me from the stress of the move. They drove down to New York the next morning (leaving at 7am, no less, just to be extra sure they'd get there in time). They called us along the way to update us on where they were and their estimated arrival time. When they moved everything into the new place, they were just as fast, efficient, careful and funny as before. The building I'm in is tricky to navigate, and the parking situation was precarious, but they worked through all the challenges without complaint. I'm a pretty critical person and generally have no trouble finding things to complain about, but in this case, I have nothing bad to say about Roadrunner. The price was totally reasonable and the service was out of this world. I even got a call from Dave the day after the move to make sure I was happy with the movers, and to see if there was anything else they could do for us. I thought that the best I could get from a moving company was a disaster-free move, but instead I actually had a totally stress-free experience, with a lot of laughs. read more

Three months ago I completed my fourth long distance move with Roadrunner. My previous three moves either originated or ended in Boston. This fourth move was from a house in Delaware to an apartment in Chicago. The thought of having to use a national long distance mover with their three week or longer delivery window did not appeal to me. On a long shot, I emailed Roadrunner to see if they were going to be in the Delaware vicinity on the day I had to move (since I was closing on a house in Delaware, I had very little flexibility on the move date). Dave responded promptly and said they would be able to accommodate me. I was so relieved! Moving is very stressful, but knowing I would be working with Roadrunner put me at ease. I emailed Dave an inventory, and again he promptly came back with a reasonable quote (no hidden costs!) and a delivery date within a couple days of picking up our load. On the day of our move, the team of two movers arrived on time. One of the movers had been on the team which moved me to Delaware, so he was familiar with the house and my furniture. As always, the guys were professional, courteous, careful, and very, very efficient. They had my things wrapped, packed, and loaded out of a two story, four bedroom house in about 2 1/2 hours. They would have been able to deliver to Chicago the next day, but unfortunately the apartment in Chicago was not available for occupancy until two days after they picked up in Delaware. The team arrived in Chicago on time. Again, they worked quickly unloading, made sure all the furniture was exactly where I wanted it, and were done within 2 hours. If I make another move (and I am sure I will), Roadrunner will be my first contact. Dave and Martin are very responsive and easy to work with. I have worked with many of their movers over the last several years, and the quality of service they provide is exceptional. I have never had an issue with Roadrunner! My wife, toddler and I used Roadrunner to get from our 2BR Boston apartment to NYC. The Roadrunner package, from initial Q&A and estimates to packing to moving is just top notch. In getting started with the estimates, a person actually came to our apartment, went through the rooms, and came up with a number that was reasonable. This contrasted nicely to a competitor of theirs who we'll call the Tender Titans, who did the estimate over the phone and ended up with a quote almost 2x the Roadrunner price - a quote so high we would've just burned all of our furniture and bought new stuff in New York. Roadrunner took great care of our stuff - no breaks / scratches / damage on anything. 2 guys came to our apartment the day before Move Day to basically finish up anything we hadn't packed ourselves. The crew that showed up on Move Day, led by Paul, was extremely fast and also explained what they were doing on the off chance I go crazy and decide to move myself in the future. Having pros empty out our place definitely took a lot of pressure of us. They drove the stuff 1/2 way to NYC on move-out day, and then showed up prompty on the next day to move into the new place at the earliest allowed time. We were fully moved in by lunch time. Criticisms? None really - the value for money was excellent, and the total cost was quite close to the original estimate. Out of all the pieces, the packing on Move Day-1 took about 2hrs longer than expected, but I suppose it is hard to be precise when the job is described as "we'll finish up whatever you haven't already packed over the next two weeks". There was also a lot of paper and cardboard involved, if any of you are super eco-considerate, but probably no more than any other firm would've used. Our new building fortunately has a recycling program so we didn't lose too much sleep over the mounds of paper. I'll definitely be recommending these guys for any of my mobile friends in the future! read more

OK, I had a tough decision to make on a 1000 mile move and had to do it quickly. I procrastinated all the way through not really wanting to leave but my desire to take on a big new position in a tough economy was looming over my head. My Spouse and I have a house and I have lot's of stuff -- books, art, and of course shoes. We were only moving enough to make me comfortable and I sought out several companies and quotes and finally met Dave of Roadrunner -- what a Gem! He was so methodical and attentive to all of my rather apparent anxieties -- let's face it the last time I had a major move was about 10 years go...and we hear all the stories. He actually informed me that I had a smaller load than the other companies were trying to charge me and he even gave me other websites to check-out on what I should look out for in a moving company. So after all my research I went w/ Roadrunners of Charleston and I made the 2nd best decision. A team of 4 men arrived: Paulo, Danny (1), Danny (2) and BJ (sp) and they were the best. Of course, being type A, I constantly got in their way but those guys were so experienced and understood -- did you hear me: they were THE BEST. I moved 1/2 of my house 1000 miles and they took the absolute best care of my books, precious art, shoes and took apart my bed and re-assembled the massive structure (hink about the experience of moving with most of your life packed away in boxes and given to strangers). I am so happy with them that when I decide to return they are the ONLY company I will consider ( as long as they send the same team ;-). I will place them on FB and send emails to all of my contacts once I am settled to say that "the RoadRunner dissolved all of my fears and laid a solidly positive foundation for a major milestone in my life." Road Runner Moving and Storage is in fact the best moving company we have ever used. Danny Gomes promptly came to our home at the time of the appointment to give us an estimate of the approximate moving time it would take to move all the contents from our 10 room colonial in Waltham to our new Condo in Watertown. He went room to room and gave us an estimate of 7-9 hours from start to finish. He explained that the workers are paid on an hourly basis and any personal time for lunch would be subtracted from the actual time. We would only be billed for the actual time. The time for the entire move was exactly 7 hours. He offered boxes or supplies in which we might need for the move. The morning of the move the movers called our home when they were about 20 minutes out to let us know when they would be arriving. Once the 24 foot truck pulled up to our house, 3 very friendly men came to our front door. Danny B was in charge of looking our belongings over to get a good idea of the order for packing the truck. We had most of our items packed up but the large items were neatly wrapped with blankets and shrink-wrap. Jason started directing the third mover Nik along in each room as the packing continued. These guys were the most efficient, careful, organized, friendly, concerned individuals that any one would want to move their belonging. They moved everything from the smallest box to the largest as well as the piano without any bumps or scrapes along any walls at both ends of the move. They were so concerned and caring with our items one would think that it was their stuff. Their work was meticulous and I would hire them again in an instant. Not one thing was broken or scratched. We just can't say enough. The price was extremely low compared to many other movers in the area and the work that was done was far superior to anything I would expect from anyone. They called me back and said that they had a special that they would pack my belongings for an additional $200.00, and they would come on Sunday 10/11 to pack with 4 packers and on 10/12 the movers would put on the truck, so I agreed. They never arrived on Sunday and never answered calls. On Monday 10/12 two movers arrived at 11 a.m. to pack and move me. The movers did such a poor job packing, my clothes were packed with the groceries, dishes packed with the components of my desk, etc, and nothing was marked. They were just throwing things on boxes. They did not start to pack the truck until 3:30 and they did not organize the truck. They then came to me and said I exceeded my truck space and it would cost an additional $2,300 to make the move or I could leave my stuff. What could I do? I called Roadrunner and surprise, no answer, so I told the movers to put all my stuff in the truck and I would deal with Roadrunner the following day. Because the used the elevator packing the truck until 8:30 p.m, I had to also pay the condo an overtime fee of $1,200. From the time that Dave visited to give us a quote to the follow up after our move, we were impressed with Roadrunner. They made our move personal and cared about our belongings. Dave/Roadrunner was the only moving company we called that came to do a site visit to actually see what we had that would be moved from one house to another -- everyone else gave an estimate. Dave also gave us an absolute maximum price we would pay, which could be reduced depending on how much we packed/moved in advance (which is what we were hoping to do a bit of.) In contrast all of the other companies gave a ballpark price which would go up depending on actual time, materials and amount moved. And at the end of the day, the final price came in under what Dave had quoted. The crew at Roadrunner did a great job of communicating with us leading up to the move itself. Then on the day of the move, the team of movers (4 guys to pack up the truck, 3 guys to unload) was on time, which we really appreciated. Each one shook our hands and introduced themselves. So nice! We had a great experience with Terrence, BJ, Matt & Stefan. They were courteous and careful with our things, kept our places clean, and were very friendly and quick. They were all business while having a smile on their faces! Great value for the money. No additional charges or hidden fees. They were very upfront with all of the permits, charges, etc so we knew what to expect. We have already recommended them to many friends and will continue to do so. They made our moving day a breeze. We were thrilled with everything about Road Runner with our move from Cambridge MA to Chapel Hill NC last month. From the moment I first called them, everyone was professional, friendly, and honest. Denis, Martin, Dave, and David provided information and answered questions quickly through email or over the phone. The most amazing aspect about this company is the work ethic that all the employees have--they never stop working. The movers are experienced, careful, and clearly enjoy their job. Dani and Danny helped pack in MA, traveled with the trucks and then unloaded in NC. Having continuity of these men provided a true sense of security for us since they were familiar with us and our things. We had used Gentle Giant for a local move within Boston several years ago because they were recommended to us. When I called them this time around, their quote was 50% higher than RR. In addition, RR really worked with us on a tricky, steep driveway in NC and found a way not to use a "shuttle" truck up and down the driveway from the road, which costs an additional $1000--RR was the only company that even considered problem solving. Their quote was right on target. No extras, no surprises. RR also packed just our fragile items. Not a single chip when I unpacked all 20 boxes. These guys are amazing. It was a pleasure to pay and tip them for their superior service. I would use RR again in heartbeat. I am recommending RR to all my friends and family for local or long distance moves. These guys are absolutely amazing. Last month, my husband and I moved from Massachusetts to Michigan. We spent a lot of time beforehand debating whether or not to get a moving company (I'd had some bad experiences in the past)-- I am so glad that I ended up calling Roadrunner. From beginning to end, everyone on staff was exceedingly kind, courteous, and professional. Dani, who did the estimate, was quite attentive and efficient, and Dennis was helpful and thorough answering my initial inquiries. Dave at the office was extremely pleasant to talk to and VERY patient answering all my questions during the process (I think there was one day when I called about six times in the span of an hour). On moving day, Paulo, Stefan, and John showed up right on time (even a bit early) and moved everything out with great care, skill, and speed. In contrast to my previous experience with moving companies, I was able to choose the exact delivery date I wanted (which happened to be only four days later). Paulo and Stefan appeared bright and early that morning and moved everything into our new apartment in no time. There were no surprises or hidden fees; they stuck to their original estimate, which was quite reasonable. I cannot say enough to recommend these guys. Truly as amazing an experience as anything involving moving could be! Being the busiest moving day of the year in the Boston area, coupled with the negative reviews floating around, (not just with Roadrunner, but their competitors as well) I was hopeful though still skeptical as moving day approached. (That is despite the extremely friendly and helpful office staff that ultimately helped to distinguish Roadrunner from their competitors and finalized my decision to choose them over the other moving companies in the area) Any concerns I had going into moving day were QUICKLY dispelled. The team was not only on time but 15 mins early. They were extremely professional and friendly. This was by no means an easy move, the apartment was located on the 3rd floor with a very narrow winding staircase and we were moving to a 4th floor apartment with equally as narrow stairs. They remained upbeat and friendly the entire time, despite the heat and amount of stairs involved. Not only was the contents of my apartment moved, but they also assisted my Fiance and her parents unload 2 full cars of additional apartment furnishings! I am still amazed at the speed in which this move was accomplished . A HUGE Thank you to the ENTIRE Team. When I spoke with James Chesbrough about my estimate he was very informative and I was reassured this company was professional. I gave my deposit on Friday, needed to cancel the move so I called him on Saturday and left 3 voice messages for him to call me back. Heard nothing so I called again on Sunday, sent him emails and sent the company emails to return my call. Called Monday 6 times, left messages again. Called Tuesday finally got someone and explained I needed to cancel, he said he would let his manager know. I got a call back from the manager he told me I can't cancel with a call I needed to email info@roadrunnermovingandstorage.com I did immediately. Later that day I emailed again asking for receipt of my email. Nothing. Sent another email to James Chesbrough, he replied he would look into it. On Thursday I got an email from someone, didn't sign stating I was not getting my deposit refunded and to read my contract. Contract states fully refundable if canceled within 5 business days of the move. Canceled on the 1st, move was scheduled for the 9th. Dozens of emails and voice messages left and not a single response until Sunday when someone called to confirm Wednesday move! Scam artists who work out of NY, don't return calls and steal your money! Do not use!!! read more

I can not say enough about Road Runner's , they made my move so easy!! Yup I said it , EASY!! From my first phone call, to the quote, to suggestion of donation organizations, to the truck door closing and finishing the job!! It was stress free and easy!! I sold my place in Charlestown and moved to Melrose. My husband was out of town and I was on my own. I really didn't think I could handle all the stress, then along came Road Runner. They suggested, they come and pick up my stuff the night before and to call them when I finished my closing, on the following day. I didn't even know you could do that... My closing was crazy stressful and I finished about 2:00 ish So, I called them when I was done closing, they arrived , which seemed like within seconds of my call. I was on my couch drinking a glass of wine by dinner time... I will never use anyone else... These guys were so nice and they even suggested were to put the furniture. Everything showed up in one peice and nothing was dirty or scratched...The moving team seemed like friends helping you move, but you didn't need to reciprocate when they move!! My family moved from Boston to Maryland in late May, 2008. I have heard of bad moving companies that would charge their customers double than the original quote on the date of moving. That made my family and I anxious when we were going to contact moving companies, especially that we are international. But from the beginning of my experience with Roadrunner, it was all positive. Dave was the person that worked closely with my family. His quote was several hundreds lower than other companies. When we were open with him about my family's tight budget, he shared with us great packing tips that helped even lower our fee. On the day of moving, the moving crew were very professional, time-efficient, and friend. After the move, we originally thought we had lost two boxes. During the process, Dave was helpful and patient in helping us find the stuff. But later, my family and I were embarrassed to realize that the boxes had been in our kitchen the whole time! The last thing to note, Dave refunded us another $100, because the actual weight of our stuff was lower than his original estimation. I hired Roadrunner for a recent move from just outside Boston to one of its neighborhoods and it was a great experience. The booking process went very smoothly and my contact, Sabrina, was very responsive and nice. She explained the whole process clearly and gave me a reasonable estimate. She also got the permit for the moving truck for Boston taken care of (for a fee but I was glad to not have to deal with the hassle). The three movers showed up right on time and one of them, Jon, explained the billing and insurance options etc. He was really helpful. He and the other two guys (Joe and G) were great movers. They were very efficient and professional. They brought blankets for all the framed pictures and furniture, and wardrobe boxes for the things on hangers, which was a huge help. Jon also broke down our entertainment center and put it back together in the new place. After it was all done we went over the charges and he explained them clearly. Everything was very straightforward, which I really appreciated. The guys beat the estimated time and were great overall. This was my first time moving with movers and I doubt I'll ever go back, especially after my experience with these guys. I would definitely recommend Roadrunner. read more

OK, when you move apartments, you know it's anxiety: packing up, finding a mover, timing, expense, uncertainty, etc. But when u move 1,000 miles away, the anxiety more than doubles. On top of that, i had only a "minimum" amount of stuff-- a small studio-- to move. So how to find a reliable, long distance mover who won't either scam me or rip me off?? Searching for one on the internet, getting lots of lowball quotes and some ridiculously high quotes, then reading the horror stories on movingscams.com, just increased my paranoia. Then i got lucky. I talked to Dave at Roadrunner Moving & Storage. He gave me a very reasonable quote to start with, and when i explained my situation and sent him a complete inventory, he did even better. He guided me on getting a Parking Permit from Cambridge, and followed up to reassure about the timing of the move. Jose, the driver who showed up and also delivered my stuff could not have been a nicer guy. No hassles at all, and no deposit up front. They trusted me. What more can I say? If you wanna be smart, go with Roadrunner. They will save you not just money but your mental health! Your precious stuff will be moved efficiently without drama or double dealing. This is my second experience with Roadrunner in less than two years. (See my review in 10/2014.) How am I glad that I chose them again! The shipment was picked up in mid-December. Due to the holiday break, it was stored in the RR warehouse (free of charge) for a month. For the delivery in Seattle, the owner of the company made a strategic decision to haul the shipment across the country one week ahead of schedule to avoid the extreme weather conditions in Northwest and in New England. The truck went through I-90 all the way to WA where it was delayed for one day as the mountain pass was close for crossing that day. The shipment was safely delivered as soon as it arrived in Seattle. Even each of the old antique furniture arrived in one piece. It helped that the delivery team took extra care re-wrapping those pieces for long distance travel. It was a professional job well done, Dave. The total cost included everything except for packing labor and materials. The line haul charge is not cheap but It's worth the assurance that my stuff will be moved to my new home safely. Roadrunner recently helped us move from my childhood home in Melrose to Wakefield. I received two quotes from other moving companies in the area and Roadrunners was so much cheaper than the first two quotes it was almost too good to be true! They packed us up and moved us in less time than they had estimated and the move was actually cheaper than we were originally quoted. I would recommend these guys to anyone - in fact I already have. One thing I would advise - don't bother getting the additional movers insurance through Road Runner - it is basicaly a waste of money. I insured our TV and 2 brand new front load washer and dryers. As they pieces were leaving the house - I was told the insurance only covered the outside of the washer and dryer and nothing inside the machines. Meaning if the drums inside the machines get knocked of the stabilizers it is not covered by insurance and you need to get it fixed out of your own pocket. Just make sure you have the stabilizing pins installed in your machines before you move and removed when they are relocated. (which Road Runner took care of for us!)
