The items I sent were pristine, but the buttons came back broken, cracked, and chipped. I only included three photos but nearly all of the buttons were damaged in some way. The garment bag they came back in also had an unpleasant odor that made everything feel unclean. The website does not accurately track your order, and therefore the notifications don't come as they should. The pick up and drop off is convenient, but there are far better options that do the same with competitive value. Absolutely not worth the money and sadly ruined my items.

I was trying to help a friend ship his whisky to an auction house in the UK. I had previously helped him with this last year with IWV and everything went well. This time... Holy sh-t??!?. The auction house in the UK sends us an email stating that they have the ok with IWV to ship... we contact IWV to simply confirm their ok before shipping, as they make it very clear they will send the boxes back if you don't arrange in advance. An employee from IWV answers the phone in the most aggressive and obnoxious way, very curt, very short and says we are not going to talk to you, ....such and such auction house is our customer, you have to arrange it through them.. I could not even get a word out to try to tell the IDIOT that we had received an email from the auction house stating that they had IWV's ok .. instead he further barks that if it is ok Paul will call and if it isn't ok Paul won't call.. to be honest I thought Uhm.. wow.. f-ck you! and f-ck Paul with your sh-tty as- attitudes...but I remained calm which is hard for me if you're a d-ck for no reason. Needless to say, I never got a call back from Paul...but having received the ok from the auction house, I keep trying to finalize this and simply get Paul's confirmed ok, before I ship. I send an internal message through their website, no answer. I send an email directly to Paul and three days later my friend gets a response from him.. the response is. do not contact us again, we will not be shipping anything for you, if you do contact us again, it is harrassment, etc, etc. All because we simply tried to get Paul to re confirm that it was ok to ship these boxes to him as the auction house had ok'd it. My friend read me the email they had sent and it made me really angry. This was just soooo unnecessary, so unprofessional, so weird, strange is almost an understatement. Hey Paul and Phil, it doesn't take much, not much at all, to simply be human. I have nothing kind or adult to say about either of you at this point. As-sholes!

Trust me, I understand why it is cheap. Normally I would say that it is just a storage unit, so how could it vary much from others...but I was completely wrong. FIRST OFF, their hours are ridiculous. They are "convenient" for the people who work there and not the people who have units there. They close at "4:45pm" on weekdays. Like seriously, who closes at the that time? Not 6, not 5, but quarter to 5. Like a normal person, I mostly do not get out of work until 5. So them closing at 4:45 makes it convenient for NOBODY to grab stuff from their storage unit, but only makes it convenient for the people who work there to avoid rush hour traffic. SECOND, the people who work there are rude. Maria, I think is her name, acts as if you are doing her a favor by being a customer there. "I am sorry, am I not paying you for my storage unit?" One time I really had to grab something from my storage unit and they closed the gates at about 4:35. I had to drive around to the main office and when I walked in, she was standing there as if she was looking at the clock ready to lock the door and get out of there. I asked her to please open the gate so I could access my unit and she said something like "well you better hurry up." What ever happened to the days of accommodating the customer? THANKS FOR BEING SO ACCOMMODATING. I had to rush up to my unit and make sure I was out promptly before 4:45 so she could leave. What a joke. The opposite of customer service. I am in sales and I pride myself on customer service and there is nothing that aggravates me more than bad service. This was beyond bad service. THIRD, they are so cheap. One would ask "It is a storage unit... how could all of this be true for such a simple business?" Oh it is. They put no money back into their facilities, making it inconvenient for customers. The freight elevator is always broken and they never fix it. You can tell the locks on the elevators are all cheap "makeshift" locks that break, and makes it so the elevator won't work. When you enter the house that the second level units are in you have to open a garage door to get in. The thing is SO loud. Put some WD40 on it. THEN, the lights in the facility are on a timer. When I originally first got my unit, it was a 30 minute timer and almost every time I got left upstairs in my unit when the light went out. So frustrating. THEN, THEY HAD THE NERVE TO TAKE OUT THE 30 MINUTE TIMERS AND INSTALL 15 MINUTE ONES, JUST TO SAVE $$$$ ON ELECTRICITY. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! From there on out I should have turned the dial to the full 15 minutes before I left, just to run up their electric bill. So cheap. There is also no heat or AC in the building. I mean AC, I get it, but no heat in the winter gets brutal. Put some money into the place. There was one worker there, I forget his name, but he was a very nice man. I could tell they did not treat him right, but he was a hard worker. He opened the gates for people and fixed things when they were broken. He should be praised. He was always very accommodating to me and I thank him for that. A few more things - they are are open for 4 hours and 45 minutes on Sunday. What kind of business hours are those? I mean, really? At least give me 6 hours. Also, every time you open the door to your unit, you literally have to wear ear plugs because the sound the door makes when you open and close it is so loud, it literally frightens you. As for McCarthy self storage, get ready to be inconvenienced and appalled at the level of service every time you enter the premises... that is if you can make it there during their business hours. TERRIBLE. TAKE A CLASS ON SERVICE.

However, the price and location were right, so I decided to try it anyway. After all, I could always leave if I hated it. I'm glad I did. McCarthy Self Service Storage is a decent and competitively-priced storage facility. While it shows signs of use, I find it as clean as most storage facilities I've used. Maria was working when I visited, and while she is no shrinking violet, she was pleasant and helpful. The second floor units are accessed by a flight of stairs, but your cargo can ride in the freight elevator if it's too much to carry. This feature was nice when I was there: I could load a significant portion of my truck into the freight elevator, close it up, send it upstairs, and then unload it, rather than making many trips up and down. The entrance to the elevator is outside, so you can pull your car or truck right up to it. The only thing that would make it better is some flatbed dollies and handtrucks for rolling the stuff to and from the unit, but oh well. Of course, the Achilles' Heel of this design is that only 1 person can use the fright elevator at any time, so if there had been another customer using it ahead of me, I would have had to wait, or carried my stuff up the stairs. The freight elevator has some peculiarities that Maria showed me; after following her instructions, it worked fine for me. Chris A. is correct when he states that the hours at McCarthy's are much more limited than at most storage facilities; I guess this is something you just accept or don't; there are plenty of other places that have automated code-activated gates, etc. so that you can access them on a more liberal schedule; they also cost more. He is also correct that the non-climate controlled interior reflects the comfort of the ambient temperature; again this is a take-it-or-leave-it proposition based on your needs and wants vs. willingness to pay. I had to reset the timer on the lights once during my visit; unless you are spending an oddly large amount of time in your unit, this should not be a major issue. Conclusion: McCarthy is a decent storage option for a person whose needs are compatible with what they offer.

Incident & Safety Concerns During a recent visit, I was physically confronted and verbally attacked by an individual associated with the property manager. I captured key portions of the incident on video. When I requested camera footage for proper documentation, I was informed that "the cameras don't work," which is highly concerning given the severity of the event. Retaliation & Threats After reporting the incident, instead of resolution, I was warned by management that if I posted an honest review, they would "destroy my employer's business profile." This level of intimidation goes far beyond unprofessional--it raises serious ethical and legal issues. Breakdown in Corporate Oversight I escalated my complaint to Public Storage Corporate on September 25, 2025, and was referred to District Manager James. Despite weeks of attempts, I have received no email, no phone call, and no follow-up. Corporate has since acknowledged the lack of response from the regional level and "re-escalated" the matter, but nothing has been done. Access & Abandonment of Duty Although my account is in good standing, I was suddenly given 3 days to vacate or risk losing all my belongings, with no legal cause and no written explanation. On multiple occasions, the office was unstaffed during posted business hours, leaving customers with no support or representative available. For reference, this facility lists weekday and weekend hours publicly -- yet no one is present to assist paying customers. Pattern Reflected in Public Feedback While I understand not every review reflects the full picture, public platforms have reported other concerns at this location, including issues with cleanliness, pests, and management responsiveness. These accounts, combined with my own experience, suggest a deeper issue with oversight at this site. PS: This is for 6am-9pm access and for 24/7 an additional $20/month. 4/5 stars as I talked to different people on the phone and they said I wouldn't need to buy a lock and could bring my own but then that wasn't the case and no one informed me it was different at different locations. Additionally they has registered me to sign up and had a date for move in before I committed. Maybe not an issue but what if I had just not gone with them; would they have charged me?? I don't know.. I just have to say that Anthony from Prime Storage in Somerville, MA, treated us like a friend. There was no way we were going to get there in time on the last night, and with a 5am flight the next day, we couldn't have made it then either. I called and Anthony was really understanding. We were not very late by the time we arrived, but late is late, and a lot of people would have not waited. That whole chaotic time period was so stressful and I can't say how much we appreciated that Anthony helped us out! We got a pretty large unit and it was clean. The area was very convenient for our needs. We'd go back again if we ever need another unit.
