I went for dinner around 5pm and it was the perfect temp for outdoor seating. Our waiter, Casey, was extremely efficient and accommodating and of course very kind! In fact the entire staff was amazing. Similar to the people inside Roadside, the food is UNREAL. I ordered a caprese salad and it was to die for. I also got a glass of sweet California Chardonnay. They have a fabulous drink menu. I think the menu was a tad over priced but in the end this is a HIGH END restaurant, so it made sense. read more

Solid spot for a seafood lunch though menu is a bit limited and the indoor atmosphere at bit dark. They do have outdoor seating available as well. We had a crab cake special sandwich and fish tacos. It was slightly surprising that both weren't served with a lemon wedge but I suppose that's fine. The tacos came with white rice which was very very plain but the salsa and the slaw was tasty. Heads up-- taco plate is 2 tacos so if you're hungry add a salad or a soup. read more

Entrees were about $30/plate. My bf ordered the mako shark special ...I had the tomato pie (appetizer) as my dinner which came with a side salad. The shark was fishy tasting...not sure if that's normal for a fresh catch...the tomato pie was more like a thick, cheesy dip. The clam chowder was good (nothing spectacular) and the gazpacho was interesting! I've had gazpacho a few times. This one was flavorful...nothing I'd order again necessarily. We really enjoyed our meal at Roadside. I had the paella and my wife had some sort of seafood with penne pasta. The paella was some of the best that I've had anywhere - plenty of seafood and delicious broth and rice. Our server, Casey, was on point and made great suggestions for drinks. Mixed experience on winter day. The staff are not very good at making customers comfortable while waiting. There's a table outside under a heat lamp, an entryway and a crowded bar area. The complaint is as much about the 'entitled' clientele that will jump on a free seat at the bar without looking around for others that might have been waiting. The beer list is Pretty good but only 2 on draught. The tomato pie was an appetizer was better than expected for winter tomatoes - like a bread tomato salad casserole with the right amount of cheese on top. The oyster soup was too creamy and heavy for my tastes. The ham, black eyed peas and collards special for New Year's Day was great but too much ham. The greens were delicious as were the peas. They should leave the sugar out of the cornbread. The most unpleasant part of the experience was the poorly insulated, poorly heated room where they finally seated us. Our legs were cold the entire time and drafts came every time someone opened the main door. It usually isn't so cold at the nc coast so it wouldn't be a problem for most people, but if you go on a cold day, hold out for a table in the small bar area that has 3 booths. Eclectic roadhouse decor. The service was friendly and pleasant in the typical American way. The restaurant is recommendable but our visit had some downsides. read more

Excellent meals and service the night we were there. Made pasta w butter for our kid, who isn't ready for their regular menu. This place looks very unassuming from the street, but the food is very high end. A nice blend of southern influence with more adventurous, complex flavors. The halibut dish was excellent, warm mushroom salad is not to be missed and the shrimp & sausage entree was also excellent. Wander back to the Backside bar for a nightcap. This is an outdoor bar that happens to be child friendly. There is a huge chalkboard to draw on, a couple of bag toss set ups and other outdoor games. They broadcast live concert footage, apparently usually Dead concerts and the like. read more

Place was highly recommended by a local and he was spot on! The pretzel bread and sweet butter was a nice start. We had the pimento cheese and tomato pie for apps, both were incredible! I had the salmon and shrimp with pepper jack grits and green beans and it was delish!!! My husband had the tuna and said that the Asian slaw was out of this world. However I ordered the 40 buck streak and it was terrible, tried to eat it but couldn't and when the waitress cleared the plates she didn't bother to even ask me if it was okay. Ordered three mojitos and the first two were great and the last was all soda water. For 10 bucks a drink that was unacceptable. I'd go back but only for the outdoor area. read more

Lovely lovely place. Me and my party were in town for a week and decided to give this place a try and boy am I glad we did! We were seated as soon as we approached which was nice considering we were a party of 5 and it was lunch hour. We were given the option to sit indoors or outdoors and chose to sit outside. We placed our orders with our waitress who was super helpful in explaining the specials of the day and the menu. All of our food was amazing and the portion sizes are just right. Not too much to leave you with leftovers and not too little to still be hungry. If I ever find myself in North Carolina again I will definitely be back. read more

We are visiting from Chicago and we're lucky enough to stumble upon The Roadside Bar and Grille. The food is fantastic and there is an open kitchen. We ordered the Tuna, Pasta, pork chop, and Vegan Pad Thai to go and all of it was served in biodegradable packaging. The food itself was excellent and the staff was really friendly. The wait for the food was over an hour , some drinks were missed, and the server did not keep us informed or apologize for the delay. While on our baby moon on Kitty Hawk we drove up to Corolla to visit friends. Needed to get something before we hit the road and headed north to DC so after much yelping we decided on Roadside. We were ecstatic about our choice. Big parking lot in the rear, and a very quaint rustic feel to the bar. I imagine this is a locals joint as much as tourists. Wife had the grilled ham cheese and apple sandwich and it was amazing. I had the burger, also very very good. I also had chowder I think which did not disappoint. Not good for groups is correct! My party of 9 went for lunch here on a Tuesday mid-afternoon in late September. There were 2 waiters working and no hostess. Every time we tried to ask the waitress a question about seating, she either ignored us or said 'i'll be right with you.' Multiple people tried asking if we could just sit at the open stools on the deck. The one waiter told us we could split up in two booths and walked away. We saw downstairs that we could've put a few small tables together and sat together. We were tired of being ignored and left. The food did look good though! read more

The menu was skimpy with no kid's section. We were served pretzel bread as an appetizer that tasted kinda stale, and had a sweet butter. My mom has celiac and could really only get a Caesar salad, and wanted to spice it up to make it an actual suitable meal by asking for grilled chicken to be put in it. We were told that they did not have chicken, which seems strange because chicken is a staple option for most restaurants. This is our third year at OBX and we have gone to the Roadside every year. I looks like we were going to miss it when our daughter reminded us. I was glad of it. Since it was our last day and leftovers were not something encouraged we order a side Caesar salad and (2) entrees. Great lunch or dinner spot if you're in Duck, and really anywhere north of Pea Island. We found this spot after hanging out on the beach for the day and being told by some friends that Roadside was "the spot" and their recommendation didn't disappoint. Plenty of great options for healthy food that won't make you feel like a beached whale when you head back to the beach or pool. Service was great and the atmosphere is very laid back. Of course it was one of the few places open on Boxing Day so we didn't have a lot of choices. The dinner menu did have multiple vegan offerings which was appreciated. However - the food was not worth the price. The tuna steak was ok - not great and the rice was wild rice instead of the sushi rice that was described in the menu (and the rice was undercooked). The stuffed portobello mushrooms were not bad but didn't blow me away. Considering the $28.00 price - I would have expected better. Overall we paid over $75.00 for the two of us and while the food was not bad it was definitely not worth the price. read more

Employees are RUDE. Last year we came into town in the off season, went to Roadside to watch the movie Easy Rider that was playing outside. Owner I assume was trying to set up AV cords and he ended up wanting some help and we are well-versed in technology so offered our hands, helped the guy the best we could, then shortly after that, he went inside to do something and some AWFUL woman yelled at us literally yelled at us for helping him out, when he specifically asked us for aid. We work in service, bartending and serving, this is not appropriate behavior. Promptly left because the woman was crazy and had some relation to the business, not friendly whatsoever. After this, we tried again to like this place because we really wanted to; Go back and try to order drinks in the OFF SEASON, not busy at all, took at least 10 minutes just to place an order for a bourbon neat. When I came here we had the entire outdoor deck to ourselves and it was blessed! The place is very cute and the food that we had was VERY good. The prices of the entrees were pretty steep so we stuck to salads. I'm sure that the entrees are worth the price, though. I had the chicken salad which is a roadside salad with chicken salad as a topping and loved it. The chicken salad was creamy enough that it stuck together but dry enough that I didn't feel like I was eating pure sauce. I would definitely get this again. read more
