Lovely lovely place. Me and my party were in town for a week and decided to give this place a try and boy am I glad we did! We were seated as soon as we approached which was nice considering we were a party of 5 and it was lunch hour. We were given the option to sit indoors or outdoors and chose to sit outside. We placed our orders with our waitress who was super helpful in explaining the specials of the day and the menu. All of our food was amazing and the portion sizes are just right. Not too much to leave you with leftovers and not too little to still be hungry. If I ever find myself in North Carolina again I will definitely be back. read more

Excellent meals and service the night we were there. Made pasta w butter for our kid, who isn't ready for their regular menu. This place looks very unassuming from the street, but the food is very high end. A nice blend of southern influence with more adventurous, complex flavors. The halibut dish was excellent, warm mushroom salad is not to be missed and the shrimp & sausage entree was also excellent. Wander back to the Backside bar for a nightcap. This is an outdoor bar that happens to be child friendly. There is a huge chalkboard to draw on, a couple of bag toss set ups and other outdoor games. Amazing meal! Great meal and service for a large part of 9. The paella was perfect - great seafood and a just the amount of spice from the sausage. Crab cakes were full of lump meat and we'll seasoned. Totally going back next year. From the name of the restaurant "bar and grill" I wasn't sure what we would get but the pictures on Yelp sold us. Place was highly recommended by a local and he was spot on! The pretzel bread and sweet butter was a nice start. We had the pimento cheese and tomato pie for apps, both were incredible! I had the salmon and shrimp with pepper jack grits and green beans and it was delish!!! My husband had the tuna and said that the Asian slaw was out of this world. We are visiting from Chicago and we're lucky enough to stumble upon The Roadside Bar and Grille. The food is fantastic and there is an open kitchen. We ordered the Tuna, Pasta, pork chop, and Vegan Pad Thai to go and all of it was served in biodegradable packaging. The food itself was excellent and the staff was really friendly. While on our baby moon on Kitty Hawk we drove up to Corolla to visit friends. Needed to get something before we hit the road and headed north to DC so after much yelping we decided on Roadside. We were ecstatic about our choice. Big parking lot in the rear, and a very quaint rustic feel to the bar. I imagine this is a locals joint as much as tourists. Wife had the grilled ham cheese and apple sandwich and it was amazing. I had the burger, also very very good. I also had chowder I think which did not disappoint. The menu was skimpy with no kid's section. We were served pretzel bread as an appetizer that tasted kinda stale, and had a sweet butter. My mom has celiac and could really only get a Caesar salad, and wanted to spice it up to make it an actual suitable meal by asking for grilled chicken to be put in it. We were told that they did not have chicken, which seems strange because chicken is a staple option for most restaurants. Food was meh and my sister said that the crab cake tasted like how cat food smells. Whole thing was pretty average. read more

Then was acknowledged that someone would be right over. He never came back but made a point to avoid us while helping others around us cause he was clearly overwhelmed. Look, I get it. Not good for groups is correct! My party of 9 went for lunch here on a Tuesday mid-afternoon in late September. There were 2 waiters working and no hostess. Every time we tried to ask the waitress a question about seating, she either ignored us or said 'i'll be right with you.' Multiple people tried asking if we could just sit at the open stools on the deck. The one waiter told us we could split up in two booths and walked away. We saw downstairs that we could've put a few small tables together and sat together. We were tired of being ignored and left. The food did look good though! read more

It looks like there is a very different experience between lunch and dinner (from perusing the other reviews). Of course it was one of the few places open on Boxing Day so we didn't have a lot of choices. The dinner menu did have multiple vegan offerings which was appreciated. However - the food was not worth the price. The tuna steak was ok - not great and the rice was wild rice instead of the sushi rice that was described in the menu (and the rice was undercooked). The stuffed portobello mushrooms were not bad but didn't blow me away. Considering the $28.00 price - I would have expected better. Overall we paid over $75.00 for the two of us and while the food was not bad it was definitely not worth the price. read more

This is our third year at OBX and we have gone to the Roadside every year. I looks like we were going to miss it when our daughter reminded us. I was glad of it. Since it was our last day and leftovers were not something encouraged we order a side Caesar salad and (2) entrees. Wife and daughter shared the Seafood penne and I a Seafood Stew and boy it was quite delicious. Our waiter, Casey, was patient, accommodating and very good. Great lunch or dinner spot if you're in Duck, and really anywhere north of Pea Island. We found this spot after hanging out on the beach for the day and being told by some friends that Roadside was "the spot" and their recommendation didn't disappoint. Plenty of great options for healthy food that won't make you feel like a beached whale when you head back to the beach or pool. Service was great and the atmosphere is very laid back. We haven't been to the backside bar yet but assume it's probably a great spot for live music and a beer! read more

Employees are RUDE. Last year we came into town in the off season, went to Roadside to watch the movie Easy Rider that was playing outside. Owner I assume was trying to set up AV cords and he ended up wanting some help and we are well-versed in technology so offered our hands, helped the guy the best we could, then shortly after that, he went inside to do something and some AWFUL woman yelled at us literally yelled at us for helping him out, when he specifically asked us for aid. We work in service, bartending and serving, this is not appropriate behavior. Promptly left because the woman was crazy and had some relation to the business, not friendly whatsoever. After this, we tried again to like this place because we really wanted to; Go back and try to order drinks in the OFF SEASON, not busy at all, took at least 10 minutes just to place an order for a bourbon neat. When I came here we had the entire outdoor deck to ourselves and it was blessed! The place is very cute and the food that we had was VERY good. The prices of the entrees were pretty steep so we stuck to salads. I'm sure that the entrees are worth the price, though. I had the chicken salad which is a roadside salad with chicken salad as a topping and loved it. The chicken salad was creamy enough that it stuck together but dry enough that I didn't feel like I was eating pure sauce. I would definitely get this again. read more

My wife and I had dinner at the Roadside Bar & Grill in Duck tonight. Service was friendly, the decor nicely nautical. My wife ordered the flounder special and I had the seafood stew. We share a half pound of steamed shrimp - these were some of the best we've had! The flounder dish was good, and I found the seafood stew to be silky and savory, if a tad on the salty side. I called in my take-out order at 5:20pm and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. I arrived for pickup about 25 minutes later and was handed the bag by Brianna, who was very friendly (wearing a mask). Most people I saw in the restaurant had masks on, but not the 4 sitting at the bar. At home we reheated the seafood pasta, the seafood stew and the mashed potatoes. Everything was very good, including the fall salad. We will eat the second half of the pasta and stew tomorrow night. We were trying to find something on the menus to eat and asked the bartender Molly if there was a kid menu because I am pregnant and can't find anything on the menu that I can eat without getting sick. She was so rude and nasty to us our experience was ruined. On top of all that the owner was drunk and still drinking while trying to manage his bar and grill. Spent 2 weeks in Duck and have to say, this was by far my favorite place to eat! I ordered the chicken salad which was absolutely delicious! The salad itself was very fresh and the chicken salad was very flavorful. Nice touch with the pistachios sprinkled around! The raspberry dressing on the side was just perfect - not too sweet and not too heavy. My SO ordered the shrimp and grits and loved them as well! The pricing was fair and the waitstaff was friendly and attentive without being "in your face." Friends of ours went earlier in the day and said the burger was the best they'd ever had. A fun-vibe outside bar with live band and casual seating while you wait for your table or to hang out. Kid games for fun entertainment. Booths and tables inside make a great casual family setting. Very friendly wait staff and great service. No reservations and the place gets packed. Definitely worth the wait. Huge beer selection. Must haves: rib eye steak, clam chowder soup and tomato pie. I was blown away! Quirky place on the outside but the food was top notch. We had a large group and split into an inside group and one group outside to do the all you can eat taco bar. The inside crew had scallops which everyone raves about. A cobia special that was also excellent and the warm mushroom salad and tomato pie as appetizers. Everything was just wonderful. Our server was super laid back to our decreasing party size but was also very attentive too. My one and only complaint was the flies that were inside. This place has a nice environment but that's about the only thing that is good about this restaurant. First of all their menu is very small, secondly a certain dish I'd advise to stay away from. DO NOT GET THE PAELLA UNLESS YOU LIKE BLAND FLAVORLESS FOOD FOR $38. Out of a group of 14, 6 people ordered this and no one at the table liked it in addition to that it is $38 and you get probably 3 clams and 3 shrimp. Although this place had horrible overpriced food, the service was awesome. She had a great knowledge of the menu and helped us out with a smile. Having great servers saved the experience overall and me nor anyone else in the group will be returning here EVER. read more
