We visited Roadside Bar and were disappointed with the food and service. The food we ate was no more than "ok" and 100% not worth the high dollar charged. While the waitress did her best, the food came out of rhe kitchen very slowly - it was 80 minutes between the time we sat until our entrees were ready. From what I could see the restaurant was full but not crowded as there was no one waiting when we came in and no one waiting when we left. I just can't recommend Roadside. Maybe we will give them a try next year and I'll be able to update wirh a better report. read more

Just to say that this restaurant had seating for 12 of us at opening should have given it away for us that there could be a problem. I will start with the food was good, even if the only option for kids is macaroni with butter. The adults food was good however. Biggest issue is it was 85 degrees inside the restaurant. We just happened to be sitting next to thermostat- and it kept going up from 82 to finally 85. When asked the server told us they were only allowed to set it at 72. Which obviously wasn't working. This place simply doesn't know what it wants to be. The outside vibe is fun and kid friendly. The dinner menu is not. Very disappointing after a fun time in the back area with live music and games. Menu is very limited and there is nothing for kids besides pasta. Our adult dinners were good but not worth the $175+ we paid. I'm now making pancakes at 9:30 pm so my kid actually has dinner. If it wasn't for the sign that said best shrimp and grits, we might have missed this place. I am so glad we did not! It was easily the best food we had all weekend, while we were kid free in OBX! It's small space and they are taking the appropriate precautions in this time of Covid, so bring your masks! We were able to sit at the bar and right away I noticed the vibe was just so chill. It reminded me of the small places in Maui! The Aloha vibe seemed to be reaching all the way to Roadside! This place is in a class all its own in Duck. The indoor seating reaps of nostalgia, the folk art that sdorns the walls, the light fixtures, even the booths and bars feel like from a bygone era and it's great. The outdoor bar and "hang-out" area is very much the same. Again as with other reviews I've made of restaurants in Duck my only complaint would be the limited menu. Roadside can also be a little on the expensive side (this is a tourist town), but as a local it prohibits me from visiting here more often. Try this place out, you will not regret it. Staying in Duck gave us the opportunity to check out the town's highly rated restaurants. After a long and hot walk on the Duck boardwalk, we crossed the street to the little 'beach shack' looking building. It was just after the breakfast hour and we saw people already stacked on the cute little patio enjoying some mid-day bevvies. We opted for indoor seating right across from the bar. Service was so awesome! The motif of the whole place was very beachy with some cool looking artsy decorations. The popular items seemed to be the po-boys and the rib-eye salads and sandwiches. Both of us ordered the po-boys with their homemade macaroni salad. The shrimp were big and grilled with a caribbean type of seasoning. The bun was toasted and stuffed with a fresh slaw. They had a aioli mayo on the side. The macaroni salad had some nice bits of fresh onions and it was ever-so light. I probably could have eaten an entire tub, but alas, it was a side dish. The shrimp were perfectly grilled and had a tasty spice of seasonings. The meal included a side dish of homemade bow-tie pasta and a pickle. It was the perfect serving for a mid-day meal. Our booth reminded me of bench seating on a boat. There was a glass mermaid overlooking our booth. It was cool. This seemed to be a place that people enjoyed at all hours of the day. Lunch time proved to be a popular time for take-out salads and sandwiches. There is a small bar where couple congregate for drinks and a light lunch. Service was top-notch. Neat little bar and restaurant serving good food in a small, hole in the wall type of restaurant (house converted to a restaurant). It is located right on the main road in Duck and is great for lunch, dinner, or even after dinner drinks at the backyard bar. The backyard bar is just behind the restaurant and is an outdoor tiki type of bar with seats and a stage set up for live music/entertainment. This is a great place for both younger kids and older adults to hang out for some fun and drinks. They are also dog friendly if you care to bring your pup while enjoying the tunes. The food is pretty good, though not the cheapest. Their warm mushroom salad is a bit different but a favorite and a definite recommendation. Their duck and crab-cakes are pretty good, as well. Honest review! First off, the drinks were good and cheap. I loved the venue it was super cute and bad was great And I was mindful of not excellent service because of covid. However, we ordered at 7:00pm. And at 8:30pm, and after hearing two year old was screaming because she was hungry the waitress says, "I'm so sorry, your next." My husband said, this was ridiculous, we had kids and she had 5 mins or we were walking out. Another table next to us went inside and complained and told us "I walked in the kitchen and they haven't even started cooking anything." Fast forward 10 mins later,I saw her bring out three more food boxes to other tables. By this time, we said forget it and started walking out. My husband politely went up to the manager/owner and said "this was ridiculous, and shouldn't have been handled this way, we had kids with us." His response was "it is what it is man" and then my husband did said F**k you. Which in turned, the owner and manager said something inappropriate back. Point of the story, poor poor service and a real businessman would of said let me give you half off your bill, or kids meals for free. Something to make it right. Then as we walk in the car the waitress runs up with a bag of food that was made in 10 mins. She was nuts if she thought we would have ate that food. I've had both the Halibut and Wahoo specials, and both exceeded my expectations, a challenging feat. So let's start with what they do well... they did a good job of making sure that there was distancing between the tables & the rooms were not overcrowded. The vegan pad thai was outstanding, the turkey sandwich, big & on good toast with a nice pasta salad. Pretty good beer list & the server knew about the beers. OK, the other side of the coin, only got one of the specialty drinks, the Sazerac- undrinkable & not resembling a Sazerac in any form... the waitress clearly saw that only one sip was taken out of the glass, but never asked about it. Heard her ask another table about their Cosmo, I suppose she wasn't interested in my thoughts... and never offered to take it off the check. Order one of these drinks at your own peril. read more

We came for lunch. They was a small menu especially for vegetarians who don't eat fish. We ordered 2 Caesar salads, fish sandwich, tuna melt with pasta salad, and big burger with cheese and bacon. My daughter and I ordered Mojitos. The drink was refreshing. "That was a good burger", was spoken. Caesar salad was fresh and good. My son enjoyed his tuna melt!!! Very pleasant lunch recently on the patio here. I believe Bailey was the name of our server and she was awesome! Super friendly and helpful with the menu. We waited a bit for drinks - because they needed to pick more fresh mint for a mojito! The food was enjoyed all around - wraps and salads for all. I'm sorry to give a low rank to a really cool looking joint, so I will qualify this to say it is based on the one dish we had and the experience my daughter had. We ordered Paella, it was not Paella with a crispy rice bottom from cast iron or the like. It was seafood over Spanish-ish rice, bland and two of four clams were so sandy they rendered everything under them inedible. So 50%of the clam and rice mixture was very sandy. The rest of the seafood was perfectly cooked and tender. The portions were large. Just cleaning clams is so basic :( My daughter walked in to order and she felt two of the three people treated her poorly, rolled eyes, exchanged glances when she asked questions.
