Great wines from under $20. Robert Hall has some very beautiful grounds. It's a nice place to stroll around, play bocce, or sit on their back patio and enjoy the views and a glass of wine. The tasting room is large and the staff seemed friendly and helpful. We were their on a Saturday afternoon around 4pm and it was not overly crowded... in fact it was pretty empty. As long as a large group isn't commanding the attention of the entire staff, I would say this is a great place to relax and enjoy yourself. read more

This is one of the better wineries in Paso. They deserve a much longer review. The room is large. Tasting is done at a central bar which is about 25 feet in diameter? Cases for sale, tshirts etc around the perimeter. This is quality Rhone Varietals. The 2007 Viognier is lovely with Viet food. read more

As a disclaimer, I'd like to say that there are a few things I look for in a winery. First and foremost is the wine, particularly if the quality is worth the price. Second is the customer service, as this will affect my experience at the winery. Third is the atmosphere, which the winemaker and tasting room pourers often have the least control over. First, the wine. I am relatively new to Rhone varietals (which are up and coming is Paso!) other than Syrah, so I my palette was thrown off by this winery. They had some nice cheeses to pair with their wines for an extra fee. Overall I wasn't impressed by any of their regular wines, though I thought some of their reserve wines were quite good. The meritage was quite good, and the port was delicious with a bit of chocolate. The bottle prices of their lower tier wines are relatively affordable at between $18- $25 per bottle. The customer service was quite good. Our tasting room pourer also gave us a tour of the winery which was really awesome. He gave us a few of their reserve wines for free, all of which were quite delightful. Last, but certainly not least was the atmosphere. The tasting room itself had very high, vaulted ceilings and was quite beautiful. The whole winery itself has lots of brick and is quite beautiful, with views of vineyards for miles around. Keep in mind that you are in East Paso, so the vineyards are all quite flat (which provides the gorgeous views!). This winery would be a beautiful place for a wedding ceremony. They have many different lay outs for different ceremonies and are very affordable for receptions! Overall it was a VERY positive experience, and I would go back to see the place and take pictures but not for the wine itself. read more

I've been drinking Robert Hall wine for a couple years. We usually pick up a bottle at the market. The Rhone de Robles is nice as well as their Cab. We decided to stop in and taste at the winery since we were in the North County today. The Winery grounds are impressive but the tasting and experience were not. Horrible service, no description of wines. There was a large group tasting and the staff couldn't manage their tasting room. Much of the group were intoxicated, didn't buy any wine and asked for a discount on their tasting. I find it a big mistake to not care for customers, just a not to the staff...There are other wineries I prefer and will not buy R.H. at the market anymore. read more

I came her a few years ago, with a friend. I was excited about going since the Cab was my favorite wine. The place is very nice, not as nice as other vineyard there in paso. I did do a little wine tasting, although the service was that great. We were the only people in there since it was a weekday, and this older man with a long beard assisted us. He wasn't very friendly, and seemed like he really didn't want to give us any information on the wine. Now that there has been a change of ownership and I am seeing new labels, this wine has changed in tasting a lot. I guess I need to find a new favorite wine. read more

Wish we would have checked reviews before adding this winery as a last stop to Paso Robles Winery Tour! I am not one to write a bad review, but my experience coupled with the numerous poor reviews that I have read on Yelp (and other business review sites) encouraged me to also share my experience to help direct others away from this tasting room! As mentioned by a few other reviewers, the tasting staff is simply not nice! I was tempted to give 2 stars, because the scenery is gorgeous, but the staff just really spoils it. We came into the winery in the afternoon, bringing them over $100 in tasting fees alone. There were maybe 2 other couples in the tasting room and 4 to 5 tasting staff pouring. Part of the group (myself included) was provided with the standard tasting menu instead of the "group" tasting menu. It took a while to get their attention to start the tasting, at which point the gal that poured for us did just that, pour and walk away. There was no education or even description of the wine. Mid-way through tasting they pulled the standard menu and replaced it with a more limited (cheaper bottle prices / high production) list. Mind you, the tasting fees were equal, but when asked if we could continue with the standard menu that had been provided, we were refused. Minutes later (as a few of us discussed the poor service) the tasting staff interrupted our conversation - not to see if there was anything to do to improve our experience - but to inform us that she thought it was rude for us to talk about poor service "in front of her face." She basically then laid into us explaining that they were doing us a favor (sorry, who is paying who again?) by having our group taste at the winery. We felt that it didn't make sense to not offer a large group a higher level of customer service, given the amount of potential revenue it could bring into the business. Clearly the focus of Robert Hall Winery is high production, nationwide retail sales and not providing a quality wine tasting room experience. Let them make their money in the grocery stores, they surely can not count on tasting room income until they change their staff If you are looking for a pleasant experience, with great wines and friendly staff - I would recommend one of the other 3 wineries that were able to go over and above accomodating our group. At the following 3 wineries, a group of 35 was provided with stellar service and excellent education on the wines we were served. Each winery had a staff of 2 to 4 at the tasting room (less than the staff that was present in the Robert Hall Tasting Room): 1. J.Lohr - Excellent wines and they even poured some from their reserve selection! YUM. They have an interesting chilled red wine that I would recommend to try when you go. 2. Graveyard - The winemakers / owners are there most of the time so you can learn a lot about the wines. They poured for us and waived the tasting fee with purchase of a bottle. There's a beautiful lake with a canoe you can actually use! 3. Pear Valley - BEAUTIFUL!! They were even hosting a wedding that was setting up at noon (we tasted there @ 11am, then had lunch on their patio) but they never made us feel rushed and were extremely accomodating and informative. read more

Victoria was extremely unprofessional, gave us half our tastings, and when it was brought to the managers attention lied completely. So, very rarely do I write a negative review, but this one necessitates it at least for the sake of the management. While the facility is beautiful and welcoming the staff are absolutely not. We were hardly greeted upon arrival and had no idea what we were tasting. Had this been my first ever tasting, I probably wouldn't have thought much of it but we had such pleasant interactions all day, this was a rather sour grape... pun intended. Also, if it had been busier, I probably could have overlooked it. Not to mention that the wine was only marginal. I found the wines offered for tasting to be rather one dimensional without much complexity. I'm not sure if that is just the quality of what they offer for the lower cost tasting or a reflection of the collection as a whole. I did like the port, which is something I usually avoid. When someone actually decided to pay attention to us, he was very cordial in suggesting it with some chocolate that worked quite nicely. To sum up in one word the New Years Eve event at the Robert Hall Winery was...DISAPPOINTING. For the price we expected more from them. The whole production was amateur. Appetizers in the tasting room only lasted an hour. I was only able to sample 3 hors devours and a glass of champagne before they hastily ushered us to dinner. Seriously? I expected a table of numerous appetizers to choose from, but they used a catering company to parade around the apps. They were kids who knew nothing about serving. Seems they rushed through the crowd with the apps. Basically just as everyone begun to visit and mingle it was time for dinner. Dinner consisted of 3 paired wines with a basic salad, stuffed chicken which was delicious, and a small piece of cheesecake that wasn't homemade. Ok ok you probably think I'm being ultra critical, but again for the price? It was only chicken with a bean/rice side dish. The courses were rushed. Everyone is still eating their salad when they try to coerce the next course upon us. Ridiculous and not very courteous. I'm sorry we were holding up the show with our dinner conversation. Oh yeah, let's touch on that. The seating was grouped into tables of eight. So much for a sense of romantic privacy. It just would of been nice if the Robert Hall event description on the website mentioned this detail. Clearly I was under the wrong impression. Luckily the people at our table were quite friendly unlike some of the other pretentious people I encountered. Don't get me wrong we had a nice time but the whole production seemed amateur thus disappointing. The wine and champagne flowed freely but I only had 4 glasses of wine and two flutes of champagne. The only bright spot was the music. The gypsy jazz band was fabulous. They play up to the New Year. It just seems for the price ($160) we should have gotten more out of the experience. Felt everyone should have only paid $70-$100 instead. More like unlimited appetizers before dinner and throughout the evening. I heard numerous people mention they were still hungry. More time to socialize before dinner. Be given the freedom as to when they were ready to eat. To not feel rushed to devour each course. Who's the guest here and who should be extended that courtesy? Next year we will definitely find something else to do. read more

This was an extremely unpleasant experience. Victoria was our pourer and had no professional way about herself. Not only did we not get to taste all of the wine we paid for, but we were rushed from the moment we walked in. After Victoria gave us wine number 4 (out of our promised 6) she promptly told our group that we needed to leave immediately. We did not disrupt the winery nor did we cause any problems with our pourer. Victoria was running around the parking lot trying to find our driver to get us out there as quickly as possible. After making us sit outside in 106 degree weather for 20 minutes we went back inside and spoke to the manager. She was willing to listen to our complaints and went straight to Victoria, who went to hide in the back as we conversed with the manager. When she finally came back to the front, Victoria back tracked and said she never said that, it was a total misunderstanding, as her face was completely red. We were upset and to make up for the issue they stated we could come back to finish our tasting. I stated we were already in the bus because we had been escorted out by Victoria and politely declined their invitation to return. I would not recommend this winery to anyone. It was very upsetting to pay for an experience we didn't even get to enjoy. read more

Let me stop you from wasting your money by going here! Don't go there. While the grounds are pretty, that's the only thing there worth visiting. The wine is eh but what's even worse than that is their terrible service. I read that their customer service is pretty bad but we decided to check it out anyway. Robert Hall lived up to that awful customer service reputation they have. We weren't really welcomed. We were not told about ANY of the wines, except the one we tried that was her favorite. I say 'her' because she never even gave us her name! She didn't even know which wine we were on. Then we paid for our tastings, and we told her about how disappointed we were and she didn't offer to refund our tasting. She didn't off us a bottle of wine. She gave us excuses about their Internet being down. Oh and they were NOT busy!! There were four or five employees just walking around and drinking wine themselves but no one seemed to care. Don't bother going there. In fact, go across the street to Vina Robles. Excellent customer service and really nice wine!! read more

What a gem! My husband and I decided to take a romantic getaway and go wine tasting in Paso. We were so impressed with Robert Hall! The wine was well-crafted, but even better than that, the service made us feel so important. The assistant manager, Victoria, catered to us from the moment we walked in the tasting room. She was so friendly -asking us what we 'd like to taste and where (the grounds outside are gorgeous)! Her kindness and gregarious personality made the wine experience all the sweeter! My mom and I stopped by here out of curiosity about a month ago. We were given the list of wines, and told there were more on the back as well. We were interested in some whites, so the guy started giving us tastes. My mom LOVED the Sauvignon blanc, and I absolutely fell in love with the fumè blanc. We each got a bottle. The wines are the regular tasting menu ($5) are ok, but not great. But you must try the reserve wines on the tasting menu ($10)...they are phenomenal. They don't have frequent cave tours (like they do at Eberles), but ask your tasting expert, and he can set one up for you while you're there. We went 7/17/11. The trip went through Santa Barbara, Los Olivos and San Luis on Saturday, then Paso and the Salinas Valley and on to Monterey on Sunday, coming back on Tuesday. We went to Robt Hall on Sunday morning, after Eberle. We were disappointed in Eberle. The pourer at R Hall, Frank I think, was very helpful. We are not merlot fans but the '08 merlot was very good. We joined the club and have been back once since for complimentary tasting. The wines we thought were good. Not as good as Tobin James, but good. Some of what they sell for $18 you can get at Total Wine for $10.99 (and less with coupons), such as merlot and rhone de robles. We also went that morning, before lunch, to EOS, which maybe I put right there with Robt Hall. EOS we are in the club as part of Firestone. Very nice experience in Paso also at Sextant, JLohr, Halter Ranch and Bianchi. We have done Napa and Sonoma several times. Paso (three hours away) is a good alternative. I love Mondavi (Napa), but $15 for three small pours? And Joseph Phelps, don't get me starter with their snobbery. (What? You don't have an appointment? Well! I suppose we can give you a splash.) Robt Hall has a pick-up party on 10/23/11, so we will see how they do with that. The club requirement I think is one year. When the year is up, I will continue on depending how it goes. read more

Our time at Robert Hall was wonderful. Our group didn't have previous experience wine tasting but had the most amazing time here. Our host, Victoria, was personable, knowledgeable, and just plain fun. She helped us choose wines catered to our tastes (we loved the Orange Moscat) and took us on a tour through the caverns and even managed to get us up into one of the mobile bottling units.
