I had a very bad and disappointing experience with Dr. Robert Yee regarding an implant crown--the worst dentist experience I have ever had in my entire life. When he placed the crown on 7/11/24, I told him it was uncomfortable and didn't feel normal. He told me I had to get used to it and walked away to see another patient. Their office was closed Fri to Sun, and he was out sick the following week. I had never experienced such extreme pain after a crown. When I saw him 1.5 weeks later, he realized the crown needed some adjustments, which he did, but then told me he couldn't do anything more and that if I experienced any further difficulties, I should contact my oral surgeon. Seriously? Instead of offering more help and care, I felt completely unwelcome and uncared for. I spent $2,730 on a crown that not only didn't work but caused me significant physical, emotional, and psychological pain for over a month. I also started experiencing tingling on the right side of my face and lips. After consulting with my oral surgeon, it was recommended that I have the crown removed. I asked if they would refund my money if the crown didn't work, but once again, I was treated with rudeness and disrespect. Rather than addressing the issue or discussing alternatives, Dr. Robert Yee removed the crown without any discussion or care and then walked away immediately after the procedure. I was then informed that he no longer wished to work with me. Due to this experience, my dental insurance is now maxed out, leaving me to pay out of pocket for any future treatments, including a new crown. I felt disrespected and dismissed throughout this entire process, and I believe patients deserve much better care and professionalism from their healthcare providers. I wouldn't recommend this dentist to anyone and would give less than one star if I could. read more

Lost a crown on my way to Hawaii. Dr. Yee said I should see a dentist there right away. I called 12 dentists and none could see me. Dr. Yee then contacted a former classmate of his who did fit me in! I was frankly astounded that he went to such great lengths to help me! He went above and beyond my expectations for a health care provider let alone any business. Dr. Yee and his entire staff are very professional and friendly. They go out of their was to make their patients feel comfortable. When I thought I had a tooth issue a few months ago and I called the office, Dr. Yee answered the phone because he just happened to be in the office (he was on vacation and the office was closed). He talked to me about what my problem could have been and he gave me his personal number in case my problem became worse before the office returned from vacation. As a young doctor who has experience teaching dental students, Dr. Yee is current, competent and experienced in all of the latest and most efficient dental procedures. He is also very kind and reassuring and has the ability to explain dental problems and complex procedures in a way that non-professionals will easily understand. I have a very long history of dental issues that include most every problem, procedure, and surgery one can imagine, so I have dealt with many dental professionals in the past. Because of this, I feel very qualified to recommend Dr. Yee as the best dentist ever! I was first treated by Dr. Yee about a year and a half ago when he was recommended by my oral surgeon, Dr. Chalak, to place the permanent crown on a dental implant. This was an upper front tooth, so it was extremely important that it be done properly, Dr. Yee did everything perfectly, and I could not have been more pleased with the final outcome. Interestingly enough, I had previously consulted both an oral surgeon and two dentists (all older, longtime professionals) who all advised me against a dental implant and recommended various versions of bridges, all involving extremely costly and lengthy treatment plans. One dentist wrote in his recommendation, "[placing an implant and crown] would require extreme care and skill to create the correct gum relationship to the final crown." Well, Dr. Yee did exactly that with perfection. Recently, he performed a complete dental checkup and placed a crown on another tooth. To complete the perfect dental experience, Dr. Yee has the most wonderful staff of professionals working with him, including Nicole as Office Manager, and a host of other lovely and efficient assistants and technicians. 2 months ago I cracked my tooth. As someone with Denti-Cal, I had trouble finding dental offices willing to help. Either I wouldn't have been able to be seen for weeks or they'd turn me away before even listening to my problem. Further, at the offices I did go to, the dentists would rush through my appointment and not take the time to listen to my concerns. I knew Dr. Yee personally but was hesitant to contact his office because I saw they don't take Denti-Cal. But one night, in a moment of panic, I sent a message to his office. Surprisingly, I received a call the next morning and was able to see him the very next day. Even better, once I was there he took the time to explain to me what path he thought was the best going forward and took the time to address my worries. This office has a friendly, homely atmosphere that I always desired but had never found in medical practices. This is hands down the best dental experience I've found and will gladly recommend it to anyone looking for a new dentist! read more

Let's be honest, no one looks forward to their 6month check up. When I started going to Dr Yee, I realized how pleasant an experience it can be. His personal touch and super friendly always joyful staff make the experience far more pleasant to endure. My wife went to his predecessor Dr. Carr for several years who was an avid photographer and much of his work is still displayed in the offices, I love the photos from around the world, especially the ones on the ceiling! The work done is excellent to be sure and even the one time I had an an issue (me eating too many chips) Dr. Yee gladly offered to replace a filling at no cost. A side note- Dr. Yee grew up going to Monta Vista HS- such a pleasure to support a fellow matador! Dr. Thomas Carr provides really good dental care. He definitely knows what he's doing, and he and the staff (especially Nicole, the Aussie reception) are always super, super friendly. His wife, who is also a dentist, usually does my cleanings. (She's not the only one who does cleanings, but since I like her I request her each time.) They have had good swag like lip gloss and (my favorite) shopping totes. The staff's goofball sense of humor comes through every year in their Christmas card photo. As a person who has anxiety visiting the dentist, I was greeted with smiles (even though masked during the pandemic) and warm welcomes from the staff. I can't explain to you how much this made me so comfortable with being in their office. Very professional staff who likes to have fun at work which I think is great for an efficient and happy staff. This type of work culture is where I would want to be a patient at as they not only do awesome work, but are very thorough and are upfront with explanations on the care that needs to be done, how much it could possibly cost, and will also refer you to very good specialists if needed. I was lucky enough that Dr. Yee cleaned my teeth as well as took images of my "Chompers" I felt like a model!! hahaha... Dental care: Excellent. Thorough detailed assessment during cleaning every time (mine done by Linda, and checked again by either Dr. Carr). My family and I have had my teeth taken care of by them for over 10 years. X-rays, other services performed by staff are professional and accurate. My second review, 1 year apart. On 4/4/19 I had my teeth cleaned and medically reviewed by JoAnne Carr... been going for 5 years now. At 82 I have seen a few dentists in my time... none more thorough, friendly, and knowledgeable than both JoAnne and Thomas Carr. They also have added new state-of-the-art tools to aid in evaluation of any problems; e.g., a micro-camera to take pictures of teeth in, around and under bridges for high definition photos of a suspected tooth problem. My wife and daughter have the same view as I do... all good. I can't believe I say that I am super happy when I get to see my dentist and hygienist. As someone who was terrified of going to the dentist as a kid, I always had that fear going in as an adult as well. Dr. Yee is absolutely easy going and definitely remembers his patients well. Hygienists and staff as well...are super awesome and always make you feel comfortable with warm welcomes and also remembers their patients as well. I've had the pleasure of having Mel the Hygienist perform my cleaning. Always a pleasant visit when they remember stories that you have told them before. A plus is that they talk to you while they are cleaning your teeth or doing whatever they need to do. They explain everything and also give you a chance to talk without the instruments in your mouth. My previous dentist in Berkeley would ask me questions and all i could say was "uh huh or uh uh" because i had instruments still in my mouth. I was notified that I could get fluoride with my cleaning and that my insurance would cover it. I was very pleased that the staff checked with my insurance and it was going to be covered. I could keep going on with my review, but just take my word for it...Dr. Yee and his staff will not disappoint! Oh and they play great music in the office! They always take time to answer any question I have and I never feel rushed. * Nicole, the receptionist is helpful and responsive. She even sends receipts by email. Awesome! Why not five stars? * Drs Carr are not part MetLife PDP, so I (a) only get partially reimbursed and (b) have to cash a check. If only MetLife did direct deposit. * Hygenists. Second Opinion I went to Dr Carr to get a second opinion from a quote I got from another dentist in same area that I got off Yelp. That Dentist had 5 star reviews. Lucky I did! Dr Carr's advice was sound health advice that was in my best interest. The other dentist was trying to extract as much money and treatment as quickly as possible from me and my wife which seemed to be capped at our insurance limits. The original dentist has a list of 18 things for me to have done, my wife had over 20. Both used the maximum of our plan for two years. Dr Carr suggested that I did not actually need half the work and the work I did need I could get it done at a much more realistic pace. I actually got two other Opinions as well - one from my regular dentist in Australia (honors and post grad in DDS) and my friend who is a periodontist so that is four opinions. The other 2 agreed with Dr Carr. Dr Carr's In short both Dr Carr's are really excellent dentists, I feel they take health related ethics seriously and always work towards giving their customer a great health outcome. In, the office, Nicole sends reminders out well in advance by email and SMS, billing is always sorted out as easily as possible and they will work to make sure you get good value out of your plan. Before you get work done from another dentist, get a second opinion from someone who will have your best interests at heart! read more

Dr. Thomas Carr's skills are more in marketing and business than in dentistry. I think he views his patients as cash cows and tries to find ways to milk the most revenues from each of them. He scared me into getting a crown put on one of my teeth, and the job he did deserved a C grade. A few years after the fact, I still have pain in the tooth. His final bill ended up being about $500 more than his own initial projection, because he "remembered" a very important and highly recommended step halfway through the procedure. Instead of apologizing, and offering to do this step for free, he tried to make a joke out of it, and profusely laughed at his own material. His message basically was, "If you don't do that, your crown is very insecure, so don't blame me if it falls off!". He put me in a position of either paying up another $500 or taking an unknown risk. Of course, I paid up. Very unprofessional. All the work he did for me - a couple of cavities, a couple of cleanings, and the one crown, cost me a great deal of money out of pocket, and he was supposed to be a part of my insurance network. He told me SIX (!) of my teeth needed crowns, and was trying to schedule me for another five crowns. At that point, I decided to check with a couple of other dentists, and each told me very clearly that there was absolutely no need for me to get any more crowns, and they saw nothing in my teeth or X-rays that would warrant such an aggressive course of action. Needless to say, I changed my dentist at that time. Years later, all those other teeth are perfectly fine without a coronation by Dr. Thomas Carr, and the one tooth he crowned still gives me a lingering pain. And both Thomas and Joanne Carr are very knowledge and take the time to explain things to you before proceeding with treatment. I've going dr.carr few years now, when i first moved here my dental situation was really bad because I had no money over the years to take care of it properly. Dr. Carr has been really great and compassionate helping me to recover on my way to get my smile back. While half of the work including my ceramic implants/crowns are done in souther california I still see Dr. Carr as a main dentist here in bay area. I would highly recommend their office no matter what situation you are in. Dealing with front office has also been very easy. My only wish for Dr. Carr's office would be that if they only had more people in their network they recommend or work with.
