As my friend and I endearingly say that you haven't had REAL SD Mex till you eat at a 'tos (pronounced toes). Had a hankering for something quick and good value. Robertos did not disappoint. A challenge in this area can be parking but I was able to catch a spot fairly quick and a hop, skip and jump from the restaurant. The best part of the experience was the view. Seeing the sunset near the beach brings a level of peace at the end of a long work day. The horchata was ok but nothing like the old days when someone made it from scratch. This location is near my residence which makes it even more ideal. Only wished they'd have chimichanga on the menu. We enjoyed this place. It probably was better than it actually was given we were starving. Be prepared to eat outdoors. It can get chilly. It was a bit of the wait for the food. The nachos is a hefty serving and throughly enjoyed. The kids quesadillas and bean/cheese burritos are basic, def in the oily side. The chile rellano burrito kept well for the next day. I wish they weren't so stingy with their salsa. I had none for my leftovers and that's what makes Mexican food the best. For convenience, I'd come back. Wow this place is getting dogged on Yelp. I went here based on our family members suggestion. I didn't look on Yelp before hand, and I'm glad I didn't. It has an awful rating...3 stars. This place is better than that, at least it was during our visit. It's in such a beautiful location near the Torrey pines state preserve and our food was very tasty. Cali burrito was great, chips and salsa fresh, and bean & cheese burrito was super yummy-- good beans! Service was fast and friendly. I encounters zero issues here today. Just a belly full of taco shop goodness. I'd definitely come back if in the area again. We either lucked out with our experience today, or people are just haters. Hard to say which it is. I used to come here about a decade ago. I had high hopes, and while some things were great, others missed the mark. The tacos were definitely the highlight! I got a shrimp taco and a carnitas taco. The carnitas taco was solid, packed with guacamole, and had great flavor. The shrimp taco was even better--the Chipotle sauce was excellent! My only complaint is that there were only four shrimp, which felt a little skimpy. My boyfriend got a California burrito, and unfortunately, it was disappointing. He said it was "pretty standard," but the bigger issue was that it was cold inside, and the cheese wasn't melted at all. That's a pretty big letdown for a burrito. We also got cinnamon chips, which were pretty good, and the Jamaica was delicious--sweet, refreshing, and full of flavor. Overall, if I were just rating the tacos, this would easily be a four-star review. But with a cold burrito and small portion sizes, it lands at three stars for me. Well i grew up coming here as it was four blocks from the house. I come back every time I come back to town to visit. There is nothing like their food in Texas that i have found. We got the 5 rolled beef tacos with guacamole AND sour cream since I'm spendy ! They are perfection. Save yourself the trip and check out their Solana Beach location. The burritos are MUCH bigger and their salsa verde isn't sour like it is at this location. The only reason I even go to this location is because it's close to my house. But I always end up regretting it because their burritos are pretty stingy. Swung by today to grab a loaded hash brown burrito. It was all egg, a little cheese, one measly piece of bacon, one hash brown, one tiny triangle of ham and 6 tiny pieces of sausage. I know this because I unfolded the thing after 4 consecutive bites of just egg. So disappointed. If you really want to enjoy Roberto's, avoid this location and go to Solana Beach instead. The California burrito is worth the hype! I love the simplicity in this no frills, Mexican spot. Sometimes you straight up just need a burrito after a long day at the beach. Though a friend told me she believed the food is more California Mexican than traditional Mexican food, the food hit the spot for everyone. I assume the meat had to be marinated overnight, because usually my burritos aren't as tender or as flavorful as the California here. Unfortunately, we visited during a rainy day but I can only imagine how nice eating on the patio under the sun would be. Definitely coming back! First time at this place and definitely the parking is a hassle. Street parking is available, followed by time limited parking. Ordering is quite easy and service is fast. My party of 8 was able to find seating outside before the dinner rush (no indoor seating). As for the food, not quite happy with what you pay for. The 3 rolled taco plates was decent and I wish there was more guacamole than sour cream. The presentation for the carne asada nachos was pleasant but it was skimped out of meat, cheese, and guacamole ( it comes with beans but ordered without). The most disappointing order was the California burrito (see my picture). Most tacos shops have a great ratio of tortilla to meat ratio but man this burrito was sad. After 12yrs of coming to this place this is the first time I've ever had to deal with horrible service. After informing the cashier that this isn't the typical size of the burrito, he's a new, and extremely young guy, being the patient individual that I am. I could sense the frustration in the cashier's demeanor, so I wouldn't fault him on not knowing how to properly respond, however no manager was on duty. They didn't even attempt to correct my order. The california burrito was really dry barely any sour cream, fries, and carne asada, but it was loaded with cheese as the picture attached reflects what I was given. Called to place an order over the phone and got "can you hold for a second" two times, arrived at the store 15 minutes later, still on hold, just to see the phone sitting there on the counter. I'm not sure why they can't take a phone order in between a few others - the line was only 2 people long. OR just say you can't accept phone orders instead of giving a bad expectation (and really bad on-hold music). The good news is, after that, AND after taking our order down wrong anyway, they expedited it to the front of the queue - how kind!
