Highly recommend visiting Tamarindo for their fantastic Happy Hour menu! (Everyday 3-5:30pm) We made a visit on a weekday so it wasn't busy at all. We brought our baby in a stroller and the restaurant was fairly stroller-friendly, even while sitting at the bar. For drinks we opted for non-alcoholic beverages, Del Sol and Watermelon Zero-Rita. Both were beautiful drinks and so refreshing! For food we got their Elote Avocado Bites, Chicken Street Tacos, Beef Sliders, and Cubano Rolls. Everything was tasty, and my favorites were the Elote Avocado Bites and Cubano Rolls. The avocado bites included large slices of avocado and I loved the tanginess in the Cubano Rolls. I took my friend here to celebrate his birthday. This is a more elevated Mexican restaurant that is very trendy and has a beautiful view of downtown Del Mar (and the ocean if you walk up the stairs). If you like spicy, the complimentary salsa (and chips) has a nice kick to it. We ordered the octopus and shrimp tacos to share, and grabbed one of each. The kale coleslaw that came with the tacos was light and citrusy, which I really loved. The rice and black bean were extra, we only ordered one plate that included these. Our server brought out churros with a cool sparkly candle to celebrate the special occasion. While I appreciated how the waiter read my lips "birthday boy" when my friend wasn't looking, I was a bit disappointed the iced tea refill that I requested never came. To be fair, the restaurant was packed during lunch on a week day and he did his best. This restaurant was a bit pricey, but it has prime real estate in the heart of downtown Del Mar, so the price is reflected in the location. For those looking for bargain tacos, this is not the place. Food was delicious, but be warned they do bring some heat! We started with the elote, which was great for me but a bit on the spicy side. Every time we've been here, they've treated us like family. Especially our pup! Super duper dog friendly either inside or on the patio. Always good vibes here and the servers are super kind, especially on major holidays like Mother's Day (we also visited last Sunday and they had a good amount of people come in too but they handled everything so well!) Our food is always so delicious. It is on the pricier side for us but we love the ambiance and view so it kinda makes up for it. The salsa and chips is complementary and is also nice but I wish the chips tasted fresher as they were a little stale (nitpick) The fish and shrimp dishes we get all taste extremely fresh and they always have unique sauces and modern takes on traditional Mexican food. I wish we got more food because it's just that delicious, and definitely some dishes are more substantial than others, but overall we spent about $140 for 4 people and a dog (very appropriate for a 4 meals, a dog meal, and 2 drinks, esp in the area) and left feeling pretty full. I have been here twice now while visiting from out of state and we've started looking forward to coming here. The service was excellent, and funnily enough, we had the same waiter one year apart who recognized our group as the night went on. Everyone enjoyed their drinks and dishes. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with a fig mole sauce served with white rice and black beans. Unfortunately it was served lukewarm. White rice had zero flavor (although it was advertised as cilantro lime rice), beans were good but nothing special. The enchiladas were filled with nice tender chicken but very little mole. They were garnished with a little bit of lettuce, pico and a tiny bit of sour cream. I didn't taste any cotija cheese. Again, barely warm. Someone in my party ordered the shrimp pasta. It looked delicious. Another ordered the fish and octopus taco plate. She commented that there was very little octopus. Everything was just ok. There was a little mixup in serving two of the orders. One friend ordered rajas enchiladas with the mole sauce and the other ordered shrimp and rajas enchiladas with the verde and rancheros sauces. They were mixed up and it took quite a long time to get the remade enchiladas. No real apology from the server. We also started with the elote spears which were excellent! We had a bunch of empty dirty plates on the table when the entrees were served and had to make a special request to have them removed. Would I return? Probably not. I've been wanting to come here for a hot minute now, and I'm so glad I finally did! It was decorated very cute for the holidays with plenty of nice heat lamps on the patio to keep you warm in the winter months. We came around 8pm and were seated and served promptly. The portions were very large and I was impressed with the food. The queso appetizer (I forgot the name!) was super yummy and served with warm tortillas. Beware it's a heavy one though! I will say that I stopped in for my first time this past weekend and had a nice dinner, although I got very sick from the Ceviche Costa Rica. It's located on the ground floor of a small shopping center in downtown Del Mar. There are multiple levels of parking in the parking garage attached for a small fee, which is what I would suggest to do because street parking is hard to find in this part of town. Inside is extremely large with many different seating options, TVs showing different beaches around San Diego, and a very large and lively bar. Every single table was taken when we stopped in for our 7 PM dinner and there was a line when we were exiting. Our server was very very polite and everything that we ordered arrived pretty quickly. As mentioned the only part of the experience I did not like was the food poisoning from the Ceviche, but the Carne Asada Plate was very good and overall I would give it another chance even though I usually don't after getting sick at a place.
