Ramon's Taco Shop has been serving the community of San Diego for sometime now. I was in the area and decided to have breakfast, so I ordered the bacon and eggs breakfast burrito during their $2 off happy hour from 8 am to 10 am. The burrito normally coast $13 but I was able to get it for $10 and some change. It's a great deal and they do not hold back on the ingredients neither. The burrito came thoroughly filled with scrambled eggs and a very good amount of bacon. I like that the bacon pieces were large. The eggs however, could of used some seasoning. It was a good medium size burrito. I had it with two of the red hot sauces from the salsa bar. The bright red one was fire and very tasty. Actually, both were very tasty. The service was friendly and welcoming. The young lady at the counter was very nice and helpful.

Ramon's Taco Shop is a local joint located in the University Square of University City. Because this plaza was anchored by a VONS grocery store, the amount of spaces in the common parking lot was sufficient for all of the businesses. I used to visit this shop more frequently before the pandemic when the cost for their street tacos were as low as $1.50 each, $3.99 for three, or $5.99 for five. Only across the border in Tijuana had I seen tacos sold at such low prices. Fast forward to my most recent visit, and there was only one party seated in the dining area which had a capacity for about three dozen customers. A self service salsa bar was stationed to the left of the service counter. Street tacos were now $3.50 each or $9 for three. The same six proteins were available as the filling. I decided to go heftier and selected one of the ten burrito varieties in the Surf 'N Turf. Grilled shrimp, carne asada, cheese, guacamole, and pico de gallo were the ingredients wrapped inside the flour tortilla. After I arrived home and opened the burrito for consumption, the product was typical in size and flavor. The price was $15 which seemed to be a few dollars more than some of the places that sell this item. If you come between 8 and 10 am, there was a two dollar discount offered for their breakfast burritos. I gave my latest experience at Ramon's Taco Shop a rating between three and four stars.

This is what a $15 burrito looks like at Ramons. Suggested tip starts at 18% and goes up to 35%! For what? This spot used to be so great. Makes me sad to see what it's become.

Best taco Tuesday deal! Don't know why they aren't rated higher. Their food is good and they are generous with guacamole, meat, and other fillings in their tacos! Good vibes and all around a great authentic option for Mexican food in San Diego. Burritos are delicious too!

Man this place has it all ! I started things out with sharing a hot Cheeto burrito with my buddy and it was fire ! My friend got the spicy shrimp plate and loved it ! I tried one of the shrimp and it was good. Me and my buddy also shared the surf and turf fries and the carne asada was so flavorful. We all shared the pollo asado nachos and chicken was so flavorful. Also they have churros !! Restaurant was clean and the cashier was helpful. Definitely coming back here !

Heads up this place is a rip off!!! $5 more for add ons in burritos

Complete and total overpriced ripoff. Avoid this place it's not worth it. I have had pricey stuff that's gourmet and that I can be talked into enjoying but the tab of almost $20 a pop on burritos is just a complete farce. Also an update to this, after I posted my review the owner and business started blowing up my phone to harass me. Avoid this place.

Ramon's is the best taco shop in UC hands down. Owners are very personable and super nice! Food is awesome! For $14 you get unlimited salsa, free chips, and a huge burrito! This is easily enough to fill two adults! They even have a deal that gives $2 off during certain times! The taqueria is well kept and clean as well. Every time people visit me in San Diego... Ramon's is a must! Cali burrito or Breakfast Cali all the way.

Beware there's only street parking, no valet service (unless you're a hotel guest), so that can present a challenge. Reservations a MUST on weekends, especially with a group. Now for the food reviews. Everything we ordered was delicious from the squash blossom and smashed tuna tartare appetizers to the El Festin platter (made for groups) . Since the main dining area is kept dark for the dramatic gothic effect, it's tricky to rely on your sense of sight for the presentation of each of the dish. The highlight for me was the chili garlic shrimp tacos. So full of flavor! The only drawback is that many of their dishes are made with nuts. So if you have a nut allergy, which one of us in our group did, the menu was limiting. Overall, it's an incredible place for first timers and out-of- towners. I might return for a special celebration, but not repeatedly. Once is good enough experience, especially with so many other special dining options in our fine city.

Delicious food, great view, and wonderful hospitality!…read more On our last evening in San Diego, we went to Coasterra to wrap up our vacation there. This restaurant came highly recommended by major Visit San Diego websites, and we felt we should give it a try. Located right next to the water, the restaurant offers expansive view of the harbor and the San Diego skyline. Sitting is about 50/50 indoor vs. outdoor, and we chose the indoor sitting as it tended to get colder in the evening. Parking is available out front, but we took Lyft there. We came in around Happy Hour, and we were able to score two appetizers for $11 each. We got fried calamari and fish cervice as appetizers. For entree, we had the fish tacos and scallops. Both of the appetizers were excellent, and the cervice was so light and flavorful. My husband loved his scallop entree, and the taste and presentation were original and outstanding. My fish taco was enjoyable as well. For dessert, we had fresh churro that was paired with ice cream, which was excellent as well. Our meal came to $143 with taxes, which was a very good value with the quality and services offered. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, which made us felt right at home. As for the ambiance, it felt modern and relaxed. There were diverse customers from locals, tourists, and business people. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience and we will return.

That said, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this burrito. It's large, filling, but their sauce had an almost artificial red color to it. It's a small tack shop style place, made more for to-go orders. Service was fast and friendly. Their horchata is where they really lose a star, it's from a fountain and tastes like it, watered down artificial flavor.
