My sister and i are from Texas and in Texas they make the Menudo with hominy and serve toasted bolillos with the menudo.. So were assuming in California and Nevada they dont make it with hominy seeing they serve an all meat menudo with corn tortillas. The menudo here was very, very good. It had great flavor and the spices were perfect. Which I thought would have ground beef. It had more of a stewed beef. Which threw me for a loop! The nacho fries were standard. They were plentiful. But nothing too amazing. The tortilla is great. The green mild salsa complements any one of their burritos. I ordered the California Burrito which was good, not great, not bad, but just good. OMG!! Save your money at this dive! The worst food and even worse staff. The food is salty and greasy, and the place is so dirty even the cockroaches don't go there. The male owner cooking or the female ringing your items up has the graciousness of a knat and could care less if you are there to make a purchase. I don't have one redeeming thing to say about this place. When we went there, I feared for my and my daughter's safety, and the clientele was sketchy too. I am concerned about the quality of the food because there doesn't seem to be a health department that patrols these kinds of restaurants. Therefore, Roberto's has carte blanch in losing the basic meaning of restaurant cleanliness, and food safety. The so-called refrigerated case for the condiments was so gross I told my daughter we would open up a jar of salsa at home. we are waiting for tomorrow to come and see if we get a food-born illness from this establishment. Roberto's is a total 50/50 for me. The last few burritos I've gotten have been small, way too salty, and pretty unimpressive. I feel the price of the veggie burrito is too high. Most places will have a veggie burrito for like $5. Roberto's veggie burritos are like the same price as any other burrito, but are small and don't have much in them which is disappointing. They're long which makes you think they're big but they are really skinny. However, they do have a quesadilla meal that comes with a quesadilla, beans, rice, and a drink for only $5.75 which is a great deal. Still a bit on the salty side... but man a whole meal for under $6 is hard to beat. It's also definitely a plus for their hours. There aren't many food options near UNR as is, and definitely not any others that are open all night. So that's a plus! read more

Roberto's is a solid taco shop. I've been to both the Reno and Carson city locations. Recently went to this one by the convention center. My wife ordered beef chimichanga combo. I had a veggie burrito and an order of chips. We dined in, which is the way to go if you have time. They have a nice salsa bar inside with fresh salsas, pickled jalapeños with escobeche, and sliced radishes & cucumbers, and fresh lemon. With two of us sharing a drink, it was still a little over $30 for lunch. Their prices are a little on the high side, but the quality is consistent and the portions are generous so it's still a decent value. Staff is nice. (Edited to remove drive thru reference. I am from San Diego where Roberto's was invented in 1964. I loved Roberto's back in my college years. The one here in Reno is a sad example of what happens when a company franchises out restaurants and does not uphold any standards. The service is lack luster to horrible depending on when you go in. The food is just okay at best and lacks any familiar flavor. (no Mexican food place should serve guacamole out of a can) The place was not clean prior to CV19, and still is not. The trash can is typically over flowing and smells bad if you sit anywhere near it. The prices are nearly restaurant grade with less than cafeteria service and quality. read more

We have been absolutely loving coming in here for their $1.59 chicken tacos on Wednesdays! Not sure how long that will be available but as long as they have it we will come! My kiddo has braces and hard shell tacos are a bit hard for him to eat but he absolutely loves their cheese quesadilla. We also love their bean and cheese burritos, they are massive and easily shareable. Very reminiscent of Nagules down in socal and we love it! Everyone that works here has been nothing but helpful, happy and quick and while this is a small place it's always inviting. I'm being a bit forgiving giving this a 3 star. I think the people are doing good work, keeping the place open all night. That's a nice feature and I feel like the employees are always doing a good job. Food comes out fast. Maybe the fast pace of the service interferes a bit with the quality. My vegetarian (vegan) burrito has no texture when I order it. Everything is soft and pretty much tasteless and it gets soggy halfway through. Not to appealing after that point. I'd suggest, grilling the tortilla, adding pinto instead of refried, just a little more rice and more texture. You could basically use all of the same ingredients just if it was prepared with a little bit more intention, it would be much better. :) that's from my perspective. My kids however love the beef tacos and have no complaints. read more

The beans and rice here are not as good as Betos, but Roberto's really knows how to make Chile Colorado, and i dont admit that lightly. Im kind of a snob of Chile Colorado, my Nana made it perfectly and I judge every restaurant against hers, same with tamales. I would say that Roberto's delivers a solid 8/10 on Chile Colorado. They also serve this meal with 2 giant flour tortillas. Seriously, dont bother ordering extra tortillas. You will be given two of them, that could could be used as pillows. Enjoy their salsa bar too! Green onions, pickled jalapenos (some of them are goddamn huge too), pickled onions and carrots, a verde sauce and a hot red sauce, cucumbers, serious options here! BTW the Chile Colorado isnt on the menu in the store, but they will ring it up provided they have it. Thats the other thing that is disappointing about this place. They dont always have everything, which Betos does. Roberto's might be out of their rolled tacos, or out of some other menu item which doesnt make alot of sense to me. The inside of the location is very small and sometimes could feel a little dirty/cramped. So far the food has been good though! I would recommend getting food to go since there is limited seating. Also, chips don't come with your order, just a tip. Usually when I got to a taqueria they have a chips bar with salsa but they only have salsa and radishes at the bar. read more

I waited weeks to try this place. All of the initial reviews were off-putting so I waited. Then I tried it once and the food was meh. Things were still getting worked out. But now I have been there two times in the last few weeks and I can say that they have everything down to a comfortable science. The orders are taken quickly and the food comes out very quick. The different items I have tried are the rolled tacos, burritos, Machaca (!!!), and the Carne Asada. The Horchata might be a bit sweet for my taste, but it's still a hit! The space is pretty small, but the food goes down pretty quick so tables free up constantly. The parking lot has always had a spot for me, not sure if I am lucky or that is just how it works out because they are so close to the Uni. They have a number of special combos that come with a drink. No substitutions, but the price point is so good, you really can't complain. With a great combination of price and flavor this is for sure a winning chain mexican fast food restaurant. read more

I landed in Reno this morning I was starving. Since I was staying downtown I decided I had to go to Robertos to satisfy my hunger. Short walk later I was there in line. I ordered the Machaca burrito. I didn't have to wait long before it came up hot and smelling good. I walked back to my hotel and started to devour it. It was fresh hot and tasty. The meat eggs. Onions and peppers were great. It blended together nicely. It was a little dry but added the green salsa verde helped a lot. It added some spice but not overwhelming. I have to admit I was a little sad they didn't have the salsa bar or the pickled veggies but due to covid I understand I can't knock the service because it was friendly and fast and when i butchered the name of the burrito the person behind the counter knew what I meant and got the right one. It's one pace that I have missed since moving and I used to get it so often when I lived here and it never has disappointed. It didn't today.
