They refuse to serve tap water and only allow you to purchase water bottles (cheap, generic kind), which is ridiculous. They give you salsa, but you have to pay for chips. The restaurant itself was very noisy from fans/music/staff and it was hard to talk at our table. $70 (before tip) for 2 orders of tacos, 1 non-alcoholic beverage, and chips/guac is absurd. They also charged $1.25 for a glass of water. Their service was excellent and very attentive. The ambience was noisy and hot. Their air conditioning cannot handle Reno's midday heat. We got squirreled, we were heading to a different place to grab a bite and decided to stop at Ana's. Glad we did. The staff was so friendly and checked on us several times. The girls loved their cocktails served in fabulous tiki like vessels. The food was difficult to choose from. Finally two of us decided to split the Tex Mex Tacos. Perfect decision. Four good sized cheese crusted hard shell tacos with your choice of meats. We did two asada and two pastor. The pastor were my favorite. My friend ordered and shared the nachos, another huge plate of food to share. Plenty of fresh crisp tortilla chips smothered in creamy warm queso, sprinkled with fresh diced tomatoes, sliced jalapeños, dollops of sour cream and fresh guacamole. Mmmm. Their reputation is well known as it was pretty full the entire time we were there. Next visit we want better weather- on the west side of the building is a fabulous large patio. We visited the Midtown location and the restaurant itself is super cute. There's much more outdoor seating than indoor seating, and I'd definitely recommend sitting outside. The indoor space is pretty small and can get warm with the kitchen right there. The staff was fantastic! Service was excellent from start to finish. The prices were a little steep, so I came in expecting the food to really wow me. I appreciated that so much is made in-house, including the tortillas and gorditas, but unfortunately the flavors just didn't quite hit the mark for me. The papas were absolutely delicious and probably my favorite thing we ordered. The tacos were also good. The ribeye gordita was a bit dry and the tortilla ended up overpowering the rest of the dish. The chicken flautas were also on the dry side and could have used a little more seasoning and flavor. I found myself reaching for the salsa with every bite. The carne asada had more of an al pastor appearance and different flavor profile than your traditional carne asada. I really wanted to love this place because the atmosphere and service were so great. If the food matched the caliber of the staff, we'd be regulars. The food was plated beautifully, but definitely underwhelming with flavor and texture. Maybe it was just an off day, and I'd be willing to give it another try in the future. read more

My friends and I had been wanting to try Ana's Taco Grill for a while, so when my birthday landed on Taco Tuesday, it finally felt meant to be. First off, huge shoutout to the staff at both locations. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. We had a group of about 12 showing up and ordering at different times, plus another large party there, and they handled it all really well. The patio has such a great Midtown vibe, and I'm always happy supporting local small businesses. We ordered a little bit of everything: ribeye gorditas with homemade tortillas, street tacos, quesadillas, loaded papas, elote, and I even attempted the AYCE tacos. The carnitas was some of my favorite in town, the guac was delicious, and my friend loved the skirt steak tacos. Plus, the three salsas they serve are all so good. Anna's Taco & Grill in Reno is excellent. The birria tacos are the best I've had -- they came with a rich consomé that was perfect for dipping. The tacos were very flavorful and very filling. My friend ordered the carne asada burrito and it was amazing, packed with lots of meat and great flavor. We also shared chips with guacamole, which were fresh and really good. For drinks I had an agua fresca de limón and my friend had a Mexican Coke -- both hit the spot. The restaurant was clean, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the staff were very friendly. Date spot for lunch alert! Split a plate of six tacos (which can easily stretch to 10-12 if you want) with a friend. They have many meats to choose from and sides of guacamole or queso if you want too. I have to say it's a mood lifter to eat here. Staff is friendly and spirits are high! This place is incredible! Best tacos this side of the Pecos River. We had the street tacos platter. It comes with 6 tacos. We got Carne Asada and Carnitas. We got a side of chips with Pico de Gallo. They offer 3 salsas. The fresh corn masa is freshly ground everyday. Yellow corn gives it tons of flavor. The flavor of the Carnitas and the Beef was delicious. Absolutely life changing good. Yeah this place is pretty great. :) We usually come here with friends and family in tow and sit at one of the big tables. Def a li'l less Mexhole-in-wall and more hipster, but the food slaps and you pay for it being in Midtown. (Still very reasonably priced for lotsa food.) Every time we order 4-6 different types of tacos and everything's hit great. :) I think the al pastor, asada, guac, and birria were all great... We've been wanting to check out Ana's Taco Grill for a while and finally had a chance to go. We are so happy we finally made it in! We had the hardest time trying to decide what to order because so many things on the menu sounded good. We went with margaritas and street tacos. The margaritas were delicious, the tacos were outstanding, and the service was good. For such a small restaurant, we were lucky to be able to find a table quickly and easily. People mention the prices are high, and we paid more than normal for lunch, but we had plenty of leftovers to take home. We definitely will be back to try other things on the menu. read more

Holy Moly! This spot still hits! On a beautiful Saturday morning I was able to come here with some friends to sit outside and enjoy the fantastic day after doing some volunteer work. I chose the Tacos Guadalajara, they were huge! Fresh made corn tortillas piled with grilled carne asada, chorizo, grilled onion, queso fresco, and guacamole. They were bursting with flavor! My husband went to Ana''s tacos on Hwy 341 On Geiger grade in South Reno. He went with a friend. They enjoyed their dinner. And my husband brought home a taco which I finished. He had the fish tacos. He really enjoyed him. I enjoyed the taco that I had. He thought they were a little overpriced. But if we are having a hankering for Mexican food, it's just down the street from our house so we may pop in. We miss an old Nick and Willie that used to be in there. I had the highest hopes for this place. Maybe that's my fault for the expectation, since I heard from a few people that it's the best food they've had. Regardless, here's the breakdown: Positives: - Variety of meat & serving size: They have a lot of meats for tacos that you don't typically get other places & they HEAP it on. - Fun staff: We were there near closing and they were singing and dancing away, which was adorable. - Drinks: Damn near delicious! I got the jalapeño & cucumber margarita . So tasty & a great balance of sweet & spicy. We order two more. Also got the Tulum which was great & creamier, but not as good as the other one. Negatives - Most of our meat was dry , so I had to add lime & salsa to spruce it up a bit. We ordered 12 tacos, with 4 different kinds of meat (asada, carnitas, suadero, al pastor). The Al Pastor was not dry. Actually really flavorful, likely because of the pineapple used. - Service: A bit inconsistent. We had one person take our drinks, another for our food, another for the bill, and a couple in between for check-ins. A little confusing. There was also a longer gap between finishing the food & getting the bill. All really nice people though! - Space: We sat inside, since there was no room outside. The space felt cramped & they ran the swamp cooler the entire time.. which isn't necessarily a negative, but it made it noisy inside & I was freezing. This is the first restaurant I've been to where I've been charged for water and chips/salsa (appetizers). As we were seated, the server asked what we'd like to drink. Given that it was 90+ degrees, and we were seated in the outdoor dining area, majority of the group chose cold water. What we found weird is they brought out Costco water bottles. When the bill came, we noticed they charged for water. We looked back at the menu, and didn't see water listed as an item to purchase, or a price listed anywhere. When I've eaten at other Mexican restaurants, they have chips/salsa as an appetizer that are free/complimentary. However when the bill came, we noticed we were charged for chips/salsa as well. The staff were attentive until it came to bringing the food. After the food was brought out, they literally ignored us. We had a large group, but they forgot to bring out 1 dish. We tried multiple times to flag down staff to let them know they forgot a dish, but no luck. We even had to go to the indoor dining room to pay the bill, since the staff didn't bring us the bill. And we had to go in to the indoor dining room to find staff to give us takeout boxes. It was busy, and a line was forming outside, so we were trying to be considerate and eat our food and leave. However, the staff was not attentive to us at all once the food was served. The food was very dry and salty. We were visiting from out of town, so it's safe to say I'll never be back to this restaurant. It doesn't seem legal or ethical to charge customers for items not listed on the menu (water), then offer something that's typically free (chips/salsa), and later charge the customer for it. If the server/host asked 'would you like to BUY water or BUY chips/salsa?' Then that would be different. But as we were seated, they just asked 'want some water and chips/salsa?' I'm not sure of the laws, and at the end of the day it's only a couple bucks, but it seems like a greedy trap. Proceed with caution, and if you dine here, either expect to pay for all drinks and chips/salsa, or decline. read more

I came here on a Saturday afternoon and tried the Volcanes, definitely recommend! You get four small crispy tortillas piled with grilled steak, chorizo, pastor, melted cheese, guacamole, cilantro, and little chunks of pineapple. The meat was super flavorful and the pineapple added a refreshing touch. The portion was huge. $18.99 felt like a decent price for how much food you get. One thing to note: their website and Instagram still show breakfast items like Churro Pancakes, but they don't serve breakfast anymore. I think they may have gone through a management or ownership change. The restaurant name is different now, and prices seem to have gone up. It'd be helpful if they updated their info online to avoid confusion. Service was decent. They were a little slow bringing out the check and taking our order. However it's understandable because they were very busy. But at that point maybe they'd benefit from hiring one extra server? The restaurant was packed and really loud inside. It was also pretty hot (I don't think they have A/C), but they do have outdoor seating. Only other downside was the $2.50 charge for a Costco water bottle, with no free water option. So let me start out with saying I have been wanting to try this place for years, and was super excited to finally get in here. My father and his wife were visiting so we took them here as they were craving tacos, felt like a safe bet for sure. We arrived at about 4:15 and not only were we the only people there at the time, we were the only people the entire time. The ambiance here is pretty nice, the inside seating area is very small but cozy, and the outside seating is super cool. There is a single very small bathroom and some neat decor to look at. But let's talk why we're here, food. My wife and I started with drinks, the drinks looked super fun, and being $17 each, we figured these would be decently strong and fun. Well this is the first breakdown for me, when these drinks did come out, neither one had any alcohol flavor to it whatsoever, and at that price point honestly that's not really all that acceptable. We moved on and ordered food, this took quite a long time to get the waiter to come back out, but we ordered and waited patiently. On to when the food came, and let me say, this took far too long, we had begun to question if something happened and our order didn't make it in. Anyway. The food was ok, the best part by far was the shrimp which were quite good, but that was about it for me. For the price of the food, nothing was a real standout, especially over the plethora of taco trucks and other spots around Reno, for quite less $$$. The part that bugged us all the most was the handmade tortillas, these were a total miss, they completely fell apart, they were far too thick, and it was like eating dry tamales. The last part was the check, this took so long to never come, that we ended up going inside and asking if we can just pay and leave. This was very frustrating when added to the time the food even took to come out, and it did not come out warm on top of that. This is one of the first places in a long time that I'm really not happy with, and I most likely won't return to, and I hate to say that. The tortillas above all were a huge miss and none of the meats themselves had much flavor, and nothing was tender, with the absolute exception of the shrimp. I would still stick with 3 because everything did seem fresh, the staff were friendly when they were around, and the portions were pretty large. The salsa were fun, the chips were chips, and the shrimp surprisingly was pretty good by itself. Hats off to them on presentation, look at the drinks, the LOOK gorgeous, and the food itself come out looking like it's going to be delectable. It just seems like a little bit more care needs to go into this place to really push it forward, and maybe a little bit of tequila in the drinks.. focus on the quality and the taste, not just the aesthetics. read more

Their taco plate and quacamole is delicious and filling. I haven't had the other items but they look. Two areas with indoor seating and nice outdoor seating when the weather is good. Both areas can be quite loud, unfortunately. It's a pretty meat-intensive place. Our new go-to taco spot in Reno! My boyfriend and I discovered Anna's Taqueria a couple of months ago, and it has quickly become our favorite place for tacos in Reno. We've already been back multiple times! We always go for the street tacos--being able to choose two different meats is a great touch. The carne asada and ribeye are incredibly flavorful, and the al pastor is a must-order every time. We also highly recommend the horchata; it's delicious and clearly made with care. My only tiny wish is that it came with a refill because it's that good! The restaurant itself is small, but always nice and clean.
