I was, needless to say, flabbergasted when we arrived at my destination, which was less than 10 minutes away and roughly 4 miles, and was told the total was $18. EIGHTEEN DOLLARS? That was at least double what I'd have paid here in Chicago, so if this guy assumed I wouldn't bat an eyelash at the heavy price tag, well, he was wrong. -There is no meter, at least not in the cab I was in. So, I'd be willing to bet that these drivers just make up the rates as they see fit. On the way to the destination, I had asked how difficult it would be to find cab late-night. The driver gave me his personal number and said he'd give me VIP treatment, to call him when I was ready. My bad, but by the end of the night, after a long day of driving and a few drinks in me, I didn't feel like screwing around with hunting down another cab (and who knew who much it would cost, anyway?), I called him. He came and picked us up (my boyfriend was there this time around) and took us back to the hotel. This time, to no surprise, the total was $19. He explained that it was an additional dollar due to the extra person and made it very clear that he "wasn't trying to rip us off". Conclusion: Don't. I had reserved (and, received a confirming text) for a ride to the Kalamazoo Airport on December 12 at 6:45 a.m. However, no one showed up on December 12. I called twice at 7 a.m.; no one answered the phone. Nor did anyone bother to call me back at a later date. I ended up calling an Uber which was half the price of Taxi Guy. They didn't remove old cop brackets in the trunk so I had to squish the two suitcases in. If both were hard-sided they would not have fit. Additionally, it scratched the hell out of my bag. There was stuff on the floorboard under my feet that should have been in trunk or up front. My feet were on plastic bottles. Lastly, the wipers clearly needed replacement. It smeared the windshield so bad it was genuinely unsafe. Uber & lyft drivers tend to take care of their cars better. I had arranged for an 11AM pick-up for our party of 13 people to take a wine tour in Southwest Michigan. At approximately 11:30AM, I received a "txt message" reading - "Sorry, our shuttle bus broke down on the highway. It is not good. The turbo blew. All we can do is refund your deposit. Sorry." No one from the company had the courtesy to call me and personally apologize or offer assistance to find another option for our wine tour transportation, which was an activity we had planned our weekend around --- we had traveled to SW Michigan from out of town to celebrate our friend's wedding engagement. This company may be cheaper than a few other options out there, but please note - if an unforeseen "break-down" occurs, this company will leave you hanging... not what I would want anyone to experience for a wedding/special event of any kind.
