This place must be off the hook amazing is my first thought because I have never seen a coffee shop with so many people in it and waiting in line. We showed up at the perfect time because we were only 2nd in the current line. At one point I counted around 50 people. Staff were super busy. As we were ordering I asked if they were always this busy. The guy said they are busy but this seemed a little over the top busy to him. I think I want to go back on a non busy day to see if our experience will be different. Food was great. My favorite was the scone. We got Blueberry lemon scone. We also got the broccoli quiche - super yummy and we got the sweet potato ham biscuit. I'm not wild about sweet potato anything, BUT I could see people being wild over this. They have a lot of food to choose from. My husband got the Mexican hot Cocoa and it was great tasting. I got their special Birthday Latte . It was ok. Did not have much of a coffee flavor and I ordered it with whipped cream on top with sprinkles and I did NOT get either. I looked at my receipt and it did say it with whipped cream and sprinkles. I think they were just overwhelmed by the volume of customers that they had and were just trying to get drinks out as fast as they could. So for my coffee it fell flat but I loved my husbands hot cocoa. I will give them a 3 1/2 in hopes that when we drive all the way out there again we can pop up the stars. I want to start by saying a few things. First... the people here are always very friendly and that is a plus. Second... their scones are wonderful. So is the quiche. Third... it is a nice place to meet with a friend once in a while. The coffee drinks- eh. Touch and go. Last few times I have ordered, the drinks were watered down with barely any coffee flavor. I rarely buy espresso while out anymore, as I have a great machine at home and I can customize my drinks to my liking. With all that said... today I was passing by and thought " why not" and stopped in. I ordered a shaken espresso, size small, with one extra shot and a pump of flavoring. It came to over $11. Anyone who likes shaken espressos knows it is almost all ice. Eleven dollars. Eleven. I am a firm believer that establishments can charge whatever they want. So the smell from outside alone rates 5 stars! Meet up with Kempsville Run Club here early in Saturday and finally got to hang around long enough to try the coffee and bakery. Cool spot. I go here often with my wife, and when people come from out of town, this is one of the spots we would like to show them. One of the major issues is the price pretty expensive, but definitely worth a visit every once in a while for a nice treat. Also not a lot of seating and it's usually pretty packed. I took a chance going out of the way to work one morning and I've since been back twice. This place is an absolute gem and I'm so glad I finally came in! It's an easy location to access from Kempsville Rd - just across from Farmhouse. There's ample parking, several tables to enjoy your purchases al fresco and a few spots to sit inside. Upon entering, I was welcomed by 2 baristas who answered any questions I had prior to ordering. I have opted for cold coffees and 2 different types of quiche. It's a short wait if you want it warmed, which I don't mind at all! I'd rather have an oven-warmed quiche than rubbery microwaved baked goods! The crustless quiche is my favorite! They usually have at least 6 types of scones to try and other delicious baked goods - cakes, pies, etc. - in their pastry cases. I've been wanting to try this coffee shop for a while. They had me at "cookie latte of the month" and "fresh-baked" goodies that I always see updated daily on Instagram. It's easy to find in a large strip mall that's easy to get in and out of with plenty of parking. Always a good way to start. It's small and cozy inside with few tables to sit at in the back and bar seating in front of the windows, but not a lot if they get super busy and only a few tables out front the day I went. No biggie, we found spots to sit and enjoy while we waited for our food and enjoyed our drinks. My friend got the London Fog drink which is Earl Grey black tea with cream or milk, slightly sweet, and very good. I chose the cookie latte of the month which was the Campfire S'mores with a s'mores latte with house-made marshmallow (a large dollop) and a chocolate cookie on top. SO good. I loved it. Very sweet but that cookie was fresh and moist and decadent. I also got a cinnamon raison scone, a sweet potato biscuit with egg, ham, and gouda and a small orange glazed pound cake. My friend chose the fresh-baked quiche Lorraine and it was devine. I have a feeling there isn't much here you could order and not like. I saw a post on Yelp Coastal VA's Instagram story about this place and immediately made plans to try this place out. What caught my attention was the fruit pebble macchiato. The location is in an area I'm familiar with off of Kempsville in Virginia Beach near the neighborhood Walmart where parking is conveniently available. I walked into the coffee shop surprised that it is also a bakery as well! There were so many desserts available and quite an extensive menu. I ordered what I went there for, the special macchiato, along with a spinach feta scone and a strawberry lemonade. I also picked up a sticker! The flavors were fantastic. First of all, the macchiato didn't disappoint. I ordered mine with oat milk and it was topped with sweet cream foam and fruity pebbles. After stirring it all together, the flavors combined in the best way possible. I don't think I've ever finished a drink that quickly. The scone was half off considering it was "scone happy hour" which is a daily special from 4-6 pm. IT WAS BAKED TO PERFECTION. I had the option of warming it and it was so lovely. The scone wasn't dry, it was packed with flavor, lovely texture. I honestly should've gotten another. And the strawberry lemonade was a great tart treat. The music selection was versatile and made for a good study environment. If I came in earlier, I probably would've gotten a lot of work done in here. I'm definitely coming back. The drinks, food, and atmosphere are exactly what makes a good coffee shop. And next time I'll try the desserts too! I had my eye on a German chocolate cheesecake lol. The only thing I was upset about is that I haven't found this sooner!! This is the coffee and bar that I've been waiting for in the VB area!! Came here as the second stop on the Coastal Coffee Trail. It's across from the Back Bay Farmhouse and near the creamery, so it's a great spot for everyone in the family. Ordered a chai latte with oat milk (my go to!), a extra dirty chai (chai, espresso, Baileys, and Kahlua), and a banana loaf slice. Both were delightful! My daughter really like the chai and oat, which is unusual. The bakery items are outstanding and it's obvious the bakery takes pride in its items. The atmosphere is inviting and is good for a quick afternoon pick me up or a longer sit and chat. From the menu, you can add a shot to any drink and there are lots of specialty drinks made to order. We have tried ALL the scones (probably all at this point), the sweet potato biscuits (wow!) and most of the quiche flavors. Nothing has disappointed in flavor or presentation. The staff is friendly and helpful of you would like a recommendation of what to try. The vibe is super chill and neighborhood friendly. On the weekends it's bustling and busy. 17 Hands Coffee is a really good bakery/coffee shop that you can find in Virginia Beach. They have a good selection of bakery items from quiches, to cakes, scones and even dog biscuits ! When you walk in you'll see their extensive menu and the bakery items displayed, you can self serve of some items and other you have to ask at the counter. Their coffee is usually made just right and it never disappoints with their extensive flavors you can mix and match however many you would like. My favorite one is the peanut butter latte, as you can't find it anywhere else, and most of their syrups are made in house. Their coffee is strong but not overbearing, and they add just the right amount of syrup without making it extremely sweet. They offer seasonal drinks and they usually give daily suggestions of which bakery items are good paired with different latte creations. Their bakery items are extremely well made, and from their savory section my favorite is their sweet potato roll with bacon egg and Gouda cheese. I've tried their cake as well and they are not overly sweet, it's absolutely amazing. Their only downfall for me would be that even though they offer wifi, I'd not work from here. There's very limited seating, and the chairs aren't that comfortable. However, I think it's great they allow you to order ahead from their website, and offer punch cards for free coffee ! I find myself here quite often. Not only is it conveniently located on one of the routes on my way home coming from VA Beach, it's a prime spot for a hot or cold drink and/or a little treat! Some of the things I love about 17 Hands: *extensive drink menu - they get quite creative with the latte flavors. I'm not sure if they have a friendly competition going between the baristas with the different flavors they come up with, but I've seen their names posted on the bake case with names and drinks. I love the chai, orange mocha latte and their lavender lemonade! *scones - some of the best in the area. I LOVE a good scone and this is a prime destination for them. They make quite a selection of different flavors too! Some iced, some not. I've had chocolate chip and also blueberry. I've seen other ones like lemon, sea salt caramel and butterscotch. I'm slowly eating my way through the various flavors. *cinnamon rolls - the best out there! It just has that wholesome, homemade taste! Gooey, topped with that buttery, sugary icing (see pic). *cakes by the slice! YES!!!! - Oh my! They have quite a selection too! In other places, you'll usually find 2 or 3 cakes and the place will sell those until they run out, but at 17 Hands they have all sorts like the classics vanilla, chocolate, red velvet etc., but they also have different kinds of cheesecakes and I've even seen a keto option if you're into that. They sometimes have little samples in individuals cups (caps included), so look out for those by the cash register. *The staff has always been so nice and so helpful! They make great recommendations when you're stuck (menu fright is a common occurrence for me LOL) *quirky decor - there's a carousel horse suspended to the ceiling and rustic furniture. This week, I was desperately searching for a place that would make a birthday cake for my sister-in-law. Although, they weren't my first choice, when I did finally think of them to try and see if they would be able to do it, it turned out to be the best thing! My SIL loves almond flavor cakes with raspberry filling and they made exactly that and my SIL was so happy with it! They were so nice to accommodate my tight timeline and the cake was packed and ready to go when I came to pick it up. I also have to add, they pack the cake so well for transport. The plastic wrap the entire box (also see pic). Next time, lesson learned. 17 Hands will be my first stop! Other things to note: - The kitchen takes up most of the space so seating is extremely limited. There is a large dinner like table in the back that can seat 6 (or 8?) ppl and then more seating my the front window and outdoors. - They have been a participating location for both the Spring and Summer trails for the Coastal Coffee Trail - As of this writing, they offer a military discount with presentation of valid ID. I really had gotten my hopes up of having found a spectacular new coffee shop after seeing so many 5 star reviews but after visiting, I'm almost sure all the 5 star reviews are just because of the staff and management. The staff is incredibly welcoming, pleasant, interactive and really takes the time to try and meet what you're looking for. However, the drinks and desserts were nowhere near 5 star ratings for me. We ordered a caramel latte, iced chai latte with vanilla, piece of coffee cake and a blueberry lemon scone. The caramel latte was bland...not particularly sweet, didn't really taste like there was coffee in it nor caramel, just bland. The iced chai latte tasted like nothing other than frothy milk...couldn't taste the chai, couldn't taste the vanilla...really was just a cup of milk. The coffee cake was great - very moist with a crumbly perimeter and perfectly sweetened for a morning treat with coffee. Though for the pricing, I would have hoped the pre-packaged pieces would be a little more generous. The blueberry lemon scones should really be renamed to something more along the lines of "Lemon Scones with Blueberries" as the lemon flavoring is all you get from them minus the occasional 2-3 blueberries found in the whole scone. I'm still not sure if getting my hopes too high made the experience worse or if this coffee shop really just doesn't deliver as well as it looks it should but I was certainly disappointed by this visit. read more

What an awesome coffee shop! I, of course had the butter beer drink and loved it! Baked goods are too notch! The butterscotch scone is to die for. Wow! What a cute little coffee shop with home-y vibes. I had never heard of this shop, but knew we had to stop by when we saw their limited time Fruity Pebbles macchiato advertised on Facebook. Once inside, there was a pretty moderate line, but there's so much to look at I was almost glad we had time to decide what we wanted to order. The decor is very eclectic, and their bakery displays are packed with scones, sandwiches and cakes. They also have bags of coffee and merch for sale (if you wear their merch, you can enjoy 10% off!). The staff behind the counter were super friendly with smiling faces. I think the woman taking our order was the owner and she was so pleasant. We got our fruity pebbles macchiatos, as well as two breakfast sandwiches and a Lemon Lavender Scone. We also got a punch reward card that we will definitely be using! Drinks took a little while to come out, but we did get there at the tail-end of a rush. Once we got all of our items, we sat at a table outside to eat. Oh my-- the coffee!! Perfectly made and I'm really picky about my coffee. And the sweet potato biscuits were amazing. They were perfectly moist and chewy, and came with a huge slab of Gouda. We also enjoyed the scone as a treat and tasted like real lavender instead of the artificial stuff. We will definitely be back to 17 Hands Coffee. My husband has been searching Yelp for a new coffee place for us to try. He decided we'd try it out here. I ordered a caramel latte, my husband a brown sugar latte, and my brother an iced caramel macchiato. My husband's latte was actually very pleasant, I'd recommend the brown sugar cinnamon. My brother's iced caramel macchiato was also pleasantly made, very rich and smooth. My caramel latte? I wasn't super impressed. I didn't get a strong coffee taste, and only a slight caramel hint. I wish it was a little more distinct without being overly sweet. The desserts however were really tasty. The cream cheese on the red velvet was a nice touch, not overly sweet at all. I personally got a chocolate chip scone with caramel sauce and it was delicious. The caramel sauce on top was my favorite part. My husband got an apple pie, and the size is a little ridiculous, but in a good way. I don't enjoy pie so I can't comment on it, but for the price you get a giant slice. We got a few cookies for the kids as well. Chocolate chip was a hit, snickerdoodle was too crunchy, and not really pleasant to my taste buds. While waiting, my kiddo, of course my kid, knocked a used plate off the little table. One of the men working came out and asked if everyone was okay, which I appreciated. The plate didn't break though, don't worry! I'm not sure if the cashier was new or not, but she really didn't seem to know what she's doing. What should have been a quick transaction took longer than needed. I'm all for repeating and order back to the customer but it's not necessary to do it two or three times with an order of 4 items. We had to wait for my scone as well as she had to ask the barista first, then the other male worker to simply slide the case open and pull out one scone. Really weird if you ask me.
