A sister restaurant to SEA, Roc Pho Shop started as an idea to branch off from traditional dishes and create more playful meals. It's the same cuisine but with a twist. Head chef Nalee Phommachanh had the vision alongside owner (and sister-in-law) Vilay Sysavath. The family- run business offers a diverse and authentic Southeast Asian menu, a quarterly rotating chef specials menu with paired rotating drinks, and a full-service bar with specialty Soju-based cocktails and other Asian-fusion beverages. My wife and I were in Rochester for a thrift show and wanted to grab some lunch. We love Vietnamese, pho is one of my favorite foods, so we decided to give them a try and we were glad we did. The restaurant is small and jam packed full of tables, but we were still able to be sat and given menus immediately around 2PM on a Saturday. We decided to order a bunch of things and share them. Obviously, we got a bowl of pho, along with an order of egg rolls, a chicken lemongrass plate, and a couple of Thai teas. Our food took a bit to come, but it was pretty busy, and we were very happy with our food. Everything was delicious. The grilled chicken from the platter had awesome lemongrass flavor, the pho's broth was flavorful, the egg rolls were absolutely amazing, and the portions were huge - we had plenty to take home afterwards. I've been to Roc Pho Shop a couple times now and find it enjoyable... had it been around during my days at RIT, I'm sure I would have been there regularly. Unsurprisingly, I originally visited to try the pho itself. While the pho is served with a plate of Thai basil, hoisin, siracha, sprouts and lime to add flavor, I'm still somewhat regularly disappointed in the lack of umami flavor in the broth itself. It lacks some depth. There are also times when my broth wasn't quite as hot as I would have wanted. Generally, the pho is fine... but there are better options around Henrietta and Rochester. Just something to keep in mind. I've had a variety of other dishes as well, and the pork banh mi is another that could use some improvement. In the couple times that I've had it, it seems to be very dry. I want a scrumptious banh mi with plenty of pickled veggies and a flavorful pork... but that isn't what I've experienced here. It's served with a broth on the side, and that's fine... but I want my flavor *IN* the sandwich... without having to use a broth as a substitute to add moisture to the meat or flavor to the sandwich. On a recent visit, I brought my mother. She ended up ordering the shrimp fried rice for her lunch, and, while the size was large (she ended up needing a takeout container to bring about half of it home), she found the dish to be lacking in flavor and components (noting that more vegetables might have been nice). During this visit, I also ordered the spicy cucumber salad for the first time... and also found *that* side lacking in flavor. There was an itsy bitsy amount of spice... but for something marked on the menu as spicy? It wasn't what I was expecting. Service was fine, and the overall ambience of the restaurant is inviting and clean. Doesn't seem to be a lot of pho joints in Roch. Found this place on Yelp of course. I sat outside and had a bowl of brisket only pho. I was curious if it was going to have the sweeter broth. It is but just a hint of that sweet. We eat pho all over the country and have many Vietnamese friends. I typically use more basil than what they gave me but LOVED the peppers not your typical jalepeno gave it a perfect kick. The place is very clean. 2 nice bathrooms. Plenty of parking and close to interstate. My server was sweet and attentive. I'll be back before we leave in a few weeks to go back home to Tampa. Oh and they have booze!!! read more

The pho is authentic and flavorful. Comes with beef and beef balls but option to add in tendon and other goodies. The broth is good and there's always a debate of adding condiments or not. The eggrolls were crunchy and come with a side of dipping sauce. The fried chicken wings were super crispy but juicy inside. The lemongrass pork chop was mediocre. I've had better. The pork was dry with salty notes but no umami. It came with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and a fish sauce dipping sauce. The broth it came with was nice but very salty. The side of rice was definitely needed to counteract the saltiness of this dish. The banh mi was lackluster. Mediocre is giving it too much credit. It was not a great banh mi. Very dry. No flavor. Burnt bread after having asked for it to be untoasted. It also came with a salty broth, maybe to add some moisture and life back into the banh mi itself. Very disappointed in the banh mi. Would not recommend and would not order again. I'd go down the road to get better bang mi. Atmosphere is great. Hip, clean and modern. Seating is limited indoors but there's a patio for warmer months. The look of the restaurant is modern and very nice. There's a private parking lot and handicap accessible. 1st time dining here and it was really good. The fried shrimp and calamari combo was yummy with a nice kick to it. My husband had the brisket and rare steak pho and I had the brisket kapoon. Both were delicious and very flavorful. Service was good but you can tell that they were kind of short staffed. There was only 1 girl taking orders for the entire place, but she rocked it. We're not usually this far out but we were hungry and didn't want the usual. Almost drove past them! It's a small but modern building. There's outdoor seating and maybe seats for 20 inside. The menu is simple with various kinds of Pho, Bahn Mi and a few other items. Surprisingly, they also have an assortment of drinks including cocktails. We got the crispy squid which was not the usual calamari style. Def getting it again! The squid was crispy with a little kick but not overwhelming with heat. It's a nice little restaurant offering Pho and some Thai food. I ordered a Beef Special Pho and Fried Chicken Wings on the side with a Thai Iced Tea for a drink. The Pho was okay, but the portion pretty generous. The Thai Iced tea was really good. Would definitely recommend this if you are visiting the place. Service is also good and prompt. The place was getting busy when I was there, but I didn't need to wait too long before my food came. The setting pretty casual and good for groups as well. We checked out ROC Pho Shop today over near RIT. It's a cozy little place with a lovely patio. We tried shrimp tom yum soup, papaya salad, fresh tofu rolls, and fried veggie rolls, rare beef and brisket pho, and pineapple fried rice. Everything was fantastic. Ate here with my daughter. We both love trying new restaurants. It's a cozy place. They've found a way to fit quite a few seats in a smaller area, and it is well done. The food was great. We had the shrimp ceviche app, kapoon-beef brisket, and my daughter had a special that escapes me. The ceviche was great. A little spice but not enough to hurt. The Kapoon was great as well, I am a fan of curry flavors. My daughter's order was great. She enjoyed it, but decided to forego the pork knuckle that came in it so I got a bonus! I ordered the beef special pho for $15 and my buddy had the kapoon. The fact that they serve kapoon suggests that owners might be Laos. We also shared the special wings and the calamari. Honestly, this place reminds me of SEA a bit, which isn't a bad thing. Menu-wise and taste-wise a lot of similarities, especially with the calamari and pho. It is a tad-bit pricier (ie. pho special is $15 vs $12) with smaller portions though. Service was friendly and prompt. Taste-wise the broth was just okay. Stop in for a bite to eat on a Friday evening. The place was so busy and they even had people outdoors eating. It was very loud and cold since the door was propped open. We decided to do a takeout order. We both ordered Rare Steak Pho. The lady explained how to boil the broth at home and the steak will cook in it. It was so good and tasty and a very good portion size. I would love to go back and try more menu items. Wonderful renovation of previously abandoned small building. Bright, modern, and clean appearance. Some indoor and outdoor seating when weather allows. I ordered online and meal was ready, hot, and well packed at time stated. I had the crab rangoons which were crispy and flavorful. Overall ok - good, quality of products good but could use some refinement to take it to the next level. The spring/salad roll was loose roll but only had 3 ingredients - lettuce, shrimp, rice noodles - missing ingredients & these are key to the flavors that should have been added - fresh mint essential, fresh cilantro leaves only, julienne matchsticks, & suggest you serve the traditional dipping sauce nouc cham. Had the Beef Pho also ok, but weak on the key flavors that should transcend as you consume the rich savory beef broth. Key flavors include reflections of charred carrot, ginger, and onions, lemongrass + a phenomenal layering of spices, including star anise, cloves, hints of cinnamon, black cardamom, coriander... you get the picture. Most Pho houses use a concentrated liquid, paste or dissolvable dry spices. But as I said their product was ok - good, but not what I consider authentic Pho. The garnishes should be plentiful with bean sprouts(good), Thai basil provided was one small top with about 6 leaves, they should at least triple the amount, plus provide limes(had to request, should automatically added + jalapeño peppers 5k-8k Scoville unit's (instead of what was used Jamaican about 10x hotter starting at 50k Scoville). Also had the Banh Mi, traditional pork & pork pate, thought they did a nice job on this - keep it going. All in all I would go back but am in search of the made from scratch Pho broth version that hasn't been watered down. read more

Roc Shop Pho is the nicest, most clean pho restaurant in Rochester I've visited to date. Newly built, bright lighting, with plenty of tables. Ordered pho to go and my food was ready in 5 minutes. Service is friendly and accommodating for my minor substitutions. Price for beef special pho is $15 which is standard in Rochester. I noticed the broth is much darker than most restaurants, suggesting they may roast the bones before simmering. The broth is delicious and the key to good pho! Me and my friend decided to try out Roc Pho Shop because we were having a craving for some delicious pho and were not disappointed! The shop's decor is very modern and the staff were very friendly and attentive! The building itself is not super large, but there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and it wasn't too loud an environment. You can also choose wherever you want to sit at the restaurant, which is a plus! The food was amazing! We ordered the pork egg roll appetizer (2pc) which was delicious and the pho with rare beef (eyeround steak) bowls and they were so good! The broth was amazing and they provide the table with a platter of different additives to incorporate into the flavors of your bowl according to your preferences!
