I ordered tacos for about $20, and while they tasted great, I was still hungry afterward since the meal only came with three tacos. Sarasota UTC Location Very good Surf and Turf Molcahete and Birria Tacos...delicious...but all the sides are add-ons. That's fine but just different from what we're used to. Chips were fantastic, salsa choices were very good from mild to spicy and the drinks were also tops! The Molcahete came out volcano hot and bubbling as it should...beef, shrimp, chorizo, and potatoes. The Birria Tacos were very tender and flavorful and a good portion as well. One more spot to mention from my Sarasota adventures. I've been to several Rocco's locations across the east and west coasts of Florida. I order two things 100% of the time, without fail. Margaritas and freshly made guacamole. Both as spicy as they will give me. On occasion, I'll have some tacos and a Corona . I do this because of how much I enjoy those two items in tandem. I can sit at the bar, knock down a couple-three margaritas and eat an entire guacamole in complete bliss. I'll request seasoned and plain tortilla chips to mix things up a little. To take it to the stratosphere, ask for their homemade hot sauce. They'll likely have two. You want the hottest one they have, the Diablo! Grab a small plate, pop the top (making sure to avoid splatter into an eye... true story), and pour a pool on the plate. You can the dip your chip right in and take the endorphin hit from the flavorful spicy goodness in its purest state. From there, you can choose to mix it in the guacamole or your margarita at will. *This is a recommendation for any scenario where you're asking an establishment for their hottest homemade concoction. If you apply it straight to your food (or beverage) , you may wind up in a predicament. In this scenario, I am well-informed on their legendary hot sauce and know they don't possess a sauce above my capsaicin limits. If you don't know how hot something is, proceeded with caution. That's my advice. I was with a colleague at the bar discussing the course we were both attending in town. The service was great, as usual. He enjoyed tacos and beer, I enjoyed... you guessed it... spicy margaritas, freshly made guacamole with few extra lime squeezes and a fresh sliced jalapeño on the side, with seasoned and plain chips. Sip, chip, hot sauce dip, guac dip, top with slice of jalapeño and another dip of hot sauce, consume, sip, repeat. There might not be another spot on the planet where I can order 2 items at the bar and be this fulfilled! I came with a party of 2 on a Thursday evening and was seated immediately. The restaurant is big and has a great vibe with an outdoor and indoor area. The restaurant was super loud and pretty dark so it was a little difficult to have conversation; it may be more fitting for a group rather than an intimate dinner. I ordered the birria tacos, it was expensive for just 3 tacos but expected that. The tacos were yummy, just a bit oily and oil was dripping out of the tacos as I was eating and as they sat there. The food was very authentic Mexican had rice and black beans that were great chips and salsa. The chips are homemade and very good and got a seasoning on them. The ambience is wonderful with background music and a beautiful garden like scenery outside, you can sit outside or inside, but most of all the biggest impression was our server Nico. The food and service have always been good here. Nice casual atmosphere with an open concept to the outside most of the time. They do have roll down walls to protect from the elements if needed though. My only complaint would be you don't get free chips and salsa but order the Austin queso and you get plenty with that, and that a soda is nearly $6 which is just outrageous for something that costs them less than $1 to serve. Literally pennies to their cost, even for refills. $4 or less is industry standard so I was sticker shocked to see what they were charging for fountain drinks. This is why I only gave 4 stars instead of 5. While I would eat here again, because the food is delicious and service is great, it's not going to be one that I frequent often due to the higher price tags. It runs about 20-40% higher than comparable restaurants in the area. Sometimes it is nice to splurge but charging a more fair price for a fountain drink and giving complimentary chips and salsa alone would make them stand out much better. read more

Busy place near university mall! Initially i was put off by the two hostesses who greeted us but our waiter made amends and was super friendly accommodating and busy! The best part if this place are the drinks! Got cherry and a passion fruit margaritas and they were unique and flavorful. I couldn't stop eating the lava salt. As for the food--nacho chips and salsa are extra and thats a no for me! We all got steak tacos which were cooked well and flavorful. I wish the meat could be cut smaller as larger pieces just rip out of my taco and everything just lands on the plate. We tried the refried and black beans both good. This was our first visit to this Rocco's location, however, we are regulars at the Orlando location. We were glad to find this spot for dinner, as we are always happy with our Rocco's visits. This location has a fun vibe and plenty of outdoor seating. They were also able to accommodate a large party on a Saturday evening. We were appreciative of this, so we came prepared to expect delays. We had water pitchers on our tables when we arrived, which was nice. One of them tasted like it had been a sprite pither that wasn't washed, and my water glass looked like someone had put a cigar out in it. Of course I didn't notice until I went to drink from it. Yuck! Anyway, we were promptly greeted by 2 waitresses, and we figured out a system for checks. We gave drink orders and were asked if we wanted appetizers. I said, "No", but others at our table ordered 3 guacamoles and asked to split the charge throughout the table. Since we were going to participate anyway, we took very little knowing several people were sharing. Drinks arrived in a reasonable amount of time. I ordered a Skinny Señorita, and it arrived in a coupe-style champagne glass, so it was a slight drink. I immediately noticed that the rim wasn't salted, which I would have preferred. I didn't think to ask for it as I consider it to be an automatic, and the waitress never asked me, and with the large group and order I didn't want to wait to ask for it to be corrected. It would have been fine, but the drink lacked any flavor aside from lime juice. Not a hint of sweetness or a whisper of tequila. Nothing but lime. I seriously think someone confused the drink dispenser with the container of lime juice. It was that bad. Someone else near me ordered the drink, neither of us could actually drink it. I believe the drink was $14, it was really a bummer to not get to enjoy it. The food arrived faster than expected which was nice. I frequently order the Mexican Cobb salad, and it looked good. My husband's order, a Dorado burrito, never came out, and after waiting for many meals to be delivered at different times, they had a meal left that he did not order, a burrito bowl. He didn't want to wait for them to make the correct meal, so he just took the wrong meal. When I had a chance to talk with the waitress I informed her of his order and she said, "he just said burrito", which was not true, and if she thought he did she should have not assumed the 'bowl' part but should have clarified since there are a few burrito options. Now that everyone had their meals, I noticed that the chicken on my salad had a sauce on it that I've never had before. I also noticed that there was no cotijo cheese on the salad. Although I don't prefer the sauce and it changed the flavor of the dish, the chicken was good, but the cheese missing from the salad was noticeable. So both my drink and my meal were not what I expected/ordered, and my husband had a meal that he didn't order or want, and likely didn't fill him. We were just ready to leave at this point, so we waited...and waited...and waited for our bill. Once received we noticed that we were charged for one of the guacamoles. We were the only people out of 15 at our table that said, "No" to an appetizer, and she chose to give us the charge. We expected a split charge, but instead got the whole darn $16.50, for literally about 2 tablespoons of guacamole. I am actually now wondering how many guacamoles they did collectively charge us for. Anyway, when we normally anticipate a 4- to 5-star evening, this one ended up being an utter disappointment with issues every step of the way. 2 stars is generous here, with order accuracy and food/drink quality so massively missing the mark. read more

***Frequent visitors of Rocco's Tacos *** Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience. The bartender had an extremely poor attitude from the moment we arrived -- unfriendly, dismissive, and clearly uninterested in providing decent service. She was on the outside bar, dark hair and eye liner you can't miss. On top of that, the cleanliness behind the bar was concerning. She was touching dirty surfaces, neglected glassware, and an overall lack of attention to sanitation made the experience even worse. She knocked over my glass that was being prepped on the bar and continued to make the drink in the same glass. Her counter part had to remind her to check on us as well, as she also disappeared for 10/15 mins and left her counterpart to do most of the work. Our first round of drinks were tasty, 2 stars for the drinks. The second round (same order) were awful, and made incorrectly. What really pushed the experience over the edge was the bartender openly expecting and asking for a large tip despite the terrible service. Tips are earned through hospitality and professionalism, neither of which were shown during our visit. Good hospitality starts with professionalism and cleanliness, and sadly this place missed the mark on both. I hope management addresses these issues because the atmosphere and service reflect directly on the restaurant as a whole. As someone who has been in the hospitality industry for over 20 years, I'm honestly appalled that I even feel the need to write this review. The skinny margaritas are great, the tableside guac is consistently good, and you generally know what you're going to get. The service at the UTC location usually slow. I've been three times recently, and it's been the same story every time--just really sluggish. So if you're planning to go, make sure you're not in a rush. We went again the last week of May, and for some reason, they had all the doors wide open. It was hot. Everyone was visibly sweating, and it definitely made the whole experience a bit uncomfortable.
