I say at the bar for lunch. It was a day with good weather so most of the doors were open making it comfortable inside. My toes were a tad cold, but I have been walking around the shopping center and regular to wear closed toe shoes. That is a me things. Unfortunately, I think that made my food not as good as it is suggested to be. By the time I got to my third taco, the shell was had and the meat was cold. Not like warm, but cold. The bartender was friendly and answered my questions, even checked in on me throughout the meal. He cannot control the weather so I said nothing. Customer service/hostess experience was extremely disappointing. We came here with a party of 8, including 4 small children. The restaurant was clearly not very busy, yet we were told there would be a 40-minute wait. We were then told that, rather than waiting, we could put tables together ourselves and sit at the bar to order. We were not offered any assistance putting the tables together, and no menus were provided. I had to go to the hostess and ask for a menu and a children's menu. She gave me one adult menu and one children's menu for a party of 8. When I asked for three additional adult menus, she told me she could not provide them--even though there was clearly a stack of menus sitting right there, and they were not sitting anyone. We went ahead and ordered at the bar, as we were trying to manage four small children.within seconds of ordering we were told that our table was ready. We were then told we could not transfer the food to the table. This all happened as table was immediately next to the hostesses who could clearly see that we were struggling with toddlers sitting on high barstools. What is especially frustrating is that the wait ended up being only about 10 minutes--not the 40 minutes we were originally told. I understand that restaurants have policies and procedures, but once we placed our order and paid for our food, we were still customers. The way we were treated made us feel as though ordering at the bar somehow made us less deserving of basic customer service and consideration. Also we ordered 2 Maraliters to split between 4 people (did not realize how much that was we aimed for 2 drinks each). We each had 4 drinks each and are completely sober. There is zero alcohol in here. The rest of the staff seemed lovely, so this is specifically about the hostess/customer service experience. Unfortunately, with so many other options in the plaza, we will take our business elsewhere. We will not be returning. read more

Come here for the margaritas and table side guacamole. . It's a great lunch spot to meet up with friends. I never feel pressured about table turnover. Love the decor. It's lively and colorful. Great background music and it's not too loud. . You can't go wrong with the tacos. Just order them. Any of them. Today I had the birria. A little greasy but still delicious. What a fantastic first time here. We got the table side guacamole which was a large portion, more than enough for the three of us. We also got margaritas, personally I tried the jalapeño margarita with a tajin rim - it was wonderful! The service was phenomenal with our server Ben. Sarasota UTC Location Very good Surf and Turf Molcahete and Birria Tacos...delicious...but all the sides are add-ons. That's fine but just different from what we're used to. Chips were fantastic, salsa choices were very good from mild to spicy and the drinks were also tops! The Molcahete came out volcano hot and bubbling as it should...beef, shrimp, chorizo, and potatoes. The Birria Tacos were very tender and flavorful and a good portion as well. One more spot to mention from my Sarasota adventures. I've been to several Rocco's locations across the east and west coasts of Florida. I order two things 100% of the time, without fail. Margaritas and freshly made guacamole. Both as spicy as they will give me. On occasion, I'll have some tacos and a Corona . I do this because of how much I enjoy those two items in tandem. I can sit at the bar, knock down a couple-three margaritas and eat an entire guacamole in complete bliss. I'll request seasoned and plain tortilla chips to mix things up a little. To take it to the stratosphere, ask for their homemade hot sauce. They'll likely have two. You want the hottest one they have, the Diablo! Grab a small plate, pop the top (making sure to avoid splatter into an eye... true story), and pour a pool on the plate. You can the dip your chip right in and take the endorphin hit from the flavorful spicy goodness in its purest state. From there, you can choose to mix it in the guacamole or your margarita at will. *This is a recommendation for any scenario where you're asking an establishment for their hottest homemade concoction. If you apply it straight to your food (or beverage) , you may wind up in a predicament. In this scenario, I am well-informed on their legendary hot sauce and know they don't possess a sauce above my capsaicin limits. If you don't know how hot something is, proceeded with caution. That's my advice. I was with a colleague at the bar discussing the course we were both attending in town. The service was great, as usual. He enjoyed tacos and beer, I enjoyed... you guessed it... spicy margaritas, freshly made guacamole with few extra lime squeezes and a fresh sliced jalapeño on the side, with seasoned and plain chips. Sip, chip, hot sauce dip, guac dip, top with slice of jalapeño and another dip of hot sauce, consume, sip, repeat. There might not be another spot on the planet where I can order 2 items at the bar and be this fulfilled! For anyone wondering, my friends all say they have other items and drinks that are top notch . I'll have to trust them for now. read more

I came with a party of 2 on a Thursday evening and was seated immediately. The restaurant is big and has a great vibe with an outdoor and indoor area. The restaurant was super loud and pretty dark so it was a little difficult to have conversation; it may be more fitting for a group rather than an intimate dinner. I ordered the birria tacos, it was expensive for just 3 tacos but expected that. The tacos were yummy, just a bit oily and oil was dripping out of the tacos as I was eating and as they sat there. the food can be pricey considering it is supposed to be Mexican. expect to spend $25.00 for a lunch without alcohol. Service was good and the food was acceptable. Tables need refinishing. There are no placemats or drink coasters or even cocktail napkins so condensation from our drinks was all over the table. I have to say the parking was awful. there are way too many eating establishments all in a row with too few parking spaces. I had to park at the south end of the aisles in front of Best Buy! our handicapped sticker got us nowhere, so I had to drop my friend off sort of near the entrance and then HIKE which I was not looking forward to doing again after we were finished. that alone would make me think twice before trying this again. There are plenty of places with tacos and easy parking in Sarasota. read more

We ate at Rocco's for the first time and left extremely unimpressed. The seasoning used turns the food into indian fusion and not true and traditional Mexican food. The refried beans tasted like chili- not good. That type of seasoning was used on everything we ordered- even the chips. The food and service have always been good here. Nice casual atmosphere with an open concept to the outside most of the time. They do have roll down walls to protect from the elements if needed though. My only complaint would be you don't get free chips and salsa but order the Austin queso and you get plenty with that, and that a soda is nearly $6 which is just outrageous for something that costs them less than $1 to serve. Literally pennies to their cost, even for refills. $4 or less is industry standard so I was sticker shocked to see what they were charging for fountain drinks. This is why I only gave 4 stars instead of 5. While I would eat here again, because the food is delicious and service is great, it's not going to be one that I frequent often due to the higher price tags. It runs about 20-40% higher than comparable restaurants in the area. Sometimes it is nice to splurge but charging a more fair price for a fountain drink and giving complimentary chips and salsa alone would make them stand out much better. read more

I ordered the Chips with Tres Salsas and the wet burrito. The chips felt stale but the salsas felt fresh. The burrito was not good as the rice inside felt undercooked and the vegetables tasted sour. I would not return. The service was okay but I realized as I paid why the place had so many reviews. The wait staff have an incentive to ask the customers to review them so they could win a contest. Interesting way to get a high rating scale on google which is clever but this felt like trickery and lost my trust form the reviews. I'd try other places instead of this spot. read more

Nico the server was awesome! First time to Rocco's and happened to be $5.00 Blanco tequila margarita with salt on the rim. The food was very authentic Mexican had rice and black beans that were great chips and salsa. The chips are homemade and very good and got a seasoning on them. The ambience is wonderful with background music and a beautiful garden like scenery outside, you can sit outside or inside, but most of all the biggest impression was our server Nico. Lots of excitement to go around here. You can actually get a choice of tortilla shells, corn, flour, hard, soft. Food comes out extremely fast, i was impressed until i found out why. Everything is commercial, no love in the cooking, room temp tortillas, same size cheese, same size lettuce, and where is the sazon!!..no seasoning. It was an overly expensive meal. It was not a great meal. This is the only Mexican restaurant that does not offer sides with your meal. I assume that beans and rice came with my meal and so I stated that and then my bill came in. They wanted to charge me $14 or something like that for rice and beans I sent the rice and beans back, and never came back to this establishment. This establishment is a big rip off. read more

Busy place near university mall! Initially i was put off by the two hostesses who greeted us but our waiter made amends and was super friendly accommodating and busy! The best part if this place are the drinks! Got cherry and a passion fruit margaritas and they were unique and flavorful. I couldn't stop eating the lava salt. As for the food--nacho chips and salsa are extra and thats a no for me! We all got steak tacos which were cooked well and flavorful. I wish the meat could be cut smaller as larger pieces just rip out of my taco and everything just lands on the plate. We tried the refried and black beans both good. More American ized style Mexican food but those drinks really set things off. Prices are decent too. Good times i say go for drinks and admire the interior design. read more
