I knew I had to try it on a recent visit back home. My experience was mixed. The excellent: our table service was next level with each dish being thoroughly explained. We were educated on the thought process behind each wine pairing as well. Between each course our table was cleaned and we were presented with fresh silverware. The great: the food was presented beautifully and our meal looked incredibly impressive. The interior definitely invoked the Brooklyn vibes that inspired the restaurant in the first place. It feels very upscale hipster. The disappointing: though the overall experience was tasty and texturally perfect, each dish we tried had some overpowering element and flavors were not balanced. After the tuna crudo all I could taste was celery, after the morel mushroom pasta all I could taste were the pungent chive blossoms, and the trout skin/asparagus were over-grilled and I felt like I was eating a well prepared charcoal briquette. Maybe I'll give this place another try next time I'm in town and hope the flavors make as much sense as the rest of the experience.

My wife got the Salmon BLT, which was also very good, with great bacon and a nice slab of fish. She got the upcharged Brussels Sprouts for her side and they were also tasty. My brother got the Arnold Palmer Chicken Sandwich, a tea-soaked sandwich that he enjoyed. He got the house chips, and they were also good. I have never had a package sent that was not super cold and everything was just as if I picked it straight out of the freezer or fridge (whichever is relevant). Sometimes there was even a little something extra in the box (Off hand I can remember a whole chicken on one occasion). When I was cooking and shooting photos for a cookbook Midamar was kind of a lifesaver when a halal deli (Top Deck Deli) in Santa Clara closed down and I really needed certain products to achieve my goals. I was able to get pepperoni, salami, turkey roll (it's ham made with turkey thighs but I get why they do not refer to it as ham), and beef bacon which were all needed for the various recipes. We have also tried summer sausage, snack sticks (think slim jims and a way to give in to a major pregnancy craving the halal way), turkey bacon, sausage links (one of the few items I do not like), turkey breast, cotto salami slices, whole chicken, and chicken nuggets (not especially wonderful but my children liked them well enough). The products are so good and convincing in comparison to the traditional pork varieties that even my non-Muslim family members who do eat pork were very impressed with it. In fact my mom is planning on buying the turkey roll (ham) from them she liked it so much. I also think that the anyone looking at the photos of the foods I made with these products would never suspect it was turkey or beef products. The meat shop we visit in San Jose usually carries the products we use on occasion but I much prefer to buy from Midamar directly. As long as they are in business and their quality remains the same or better then I will continue to buy from them and recommend them to others.

The manager did remove it from the bill, which we appreciated, but the steak should never have been served in the first place. It felt like the expediter was asleep at the pass. It's frustrating because the restaurant has great potential -- the atmosphere is beautiful and the service staff does a good job -- but the kitchen clearly lacks standards and consistency. 1 out of 5.
