I visited Rock Bottom for a meetup event and had a decent time. I thought the bar service was pretty on point. Since I only had a few beers and cocktails, I cannot comment about the food. The restaurant is pretty large with two levels (and performance area/wing). The upstair area has a few pool tables with another bar. Unfortunately for us, the upstairs bar was not open for service, which meant having to go downstairs for beer and cocktail refills. The upstairs portion of the restaurant was nice, but I thought one of the pool tables was a bit too close to the dining tables. Son's been asking me to take him here again. The street in front is no longer a pedestrian zone. It was pretty quiet early on a Saturday evening but quite a few people were arriving. Comedy show in the event space, lots of college football on in the main space. We got pretzel sticks, I had the BBQ bacon burger which is very tasty and he had the twisted tenders. I went to Rock Bottom to work remotely while my dog was getting groomed at Elysium. Since it was a work day I decided not to enjoy a beer and just had a ginger beer and food. During the weekday afternoon the business is very quiet and empty. It is definitely a good spot to work from. I sat at a high top and was served by the bartender. She was so patient and friendly. I truly appreciated her warmth and hospitality. I asked her about the vegan options and she pointed out that the Tiger Cry bowl would be the best option to have a filling vegan meal. I went with her advice and ordered that for $16. When I got the bowl the presentation was definitely underwhelming. For $16 it was a mixture of raw and poorly cooked vegetables. The carrots and cucumbers were raw, and they tasted fine. The Brussel sprouts were cooked but still pretty hard. For $16 I was hoping for crispy and beautifully flavored sprouts. Instead they tasted very pedestrian. The mushrooms were mushy. Mushrooms taste fantastic when they are lightly sautéed with just some salt and pepper. These mushrooms were too soft, and smothered in some subpar sauce. The smoky glaze given on the side was overly sweet. I added it for a cool picture and immediately regretted pouring it in after the first bite. I was able to eat half my bowl, and then the sweetness was too much to handle. I will reheat it at home with plain rice to balance out pouring too much sauce in. Finally, this bowl is supposed to come with edamame. I could not find any edamame in this bowl. For $16 it is a shame one ingredient was missing. Additionally, since this is a vegan meal, it is disappointing to forget the main source of protein. If the hospitality was not so good I would give this business less stars. Also, I know this is a brewery and I did not get a beer. I am sure my experience would have been better with a little beer in my belly. I do hope this business thinks of revamping their vegan options. They offer a beyond meat burger at a $3 upcharge. Their burger prices are already high, and none of their burgers would even be vegan with the substitution of the patty as they all have cheese or meat on them. The Tiger Cry bowl was their only vegan bowl and it has a lot of room for improvement. It needs vegetables that are better cooked, a sauce worth pouring over the bowl, and remembering to add the protein would be nice. read more

Earlier this year, Craftworks who owns Rock Bottom filed for bankruptcy. When RB closed in March I thought that was it, but was happy they reopened recently! I've been going to this RB since it opened back in the 90s. So many great memories, parties and good times were had here. Due to Covid-19, we've been only dining outdoors and RB does have outdoor dining space. They should try to expand the seating if they can. They have a limited menu now, so don't expect their full menu as a lot of restaurants have done this. I wish they still had their chicken fried chicken and Rock Creek Pale Ale. They still have their awesome pretzels, wings, nachos and fish and chips. Please support them so Craftworks doesn't close this location permanently! They also have Lumpy Dog and Red Raccoon beers. I really enjoyed their new beer Vienna Lager. Food does take some time but it's due to staff shortage so be patient with them. read more

Every time we come Steve greets us like we are his long lost cousins:0) Food Is always fresh and delicious and we are so happy. The Cauliflower appetizer is spicy but in a good way. I always get the Cobb salad and can't even take a bite because I'm full from my appetizer!! Haha I'm not a drinker so I can't tell about the alcoholic beverages but everything else is delicious. The end is always the best. The Carrot Cake. We are only able to share one slice and even then we take most of it home. It's a rich sin of heaven. We happened upon this place because our original dinner plans fell through, but Rock Bottom was even better!! It's located on Norfolk Ave, the Bethesda Streetery. Their beer is brewed in-house which was so cool to watch. It was a really cool vibe, all ages, some families, some friends, some couples. There is an eating area separate from the bar if you're looking for something a little calmer. It was honestly so hard deciding on food because of how many amazing options there are on the menu, so we will definitely be back to try out some more! I came here for a large group event so it was in the backroom that can accommodate big parties. My only real gripe is that service was average--management could've assigned at least one more server to our party since many things were forgotten. At least our waiters were nice. I went with the Bourbonzola Burger (Maker's Mark® bourbon glaze, gorgonzola cheese, crispy onions) which was pretty tasty and unique, but definitely not the best burger ever. Washing it down with one of their signature beers was a great combination. Rock Bottom isn't the best restaurant brewery ever, but it's not the worst. We went to Rock Bottom Restaurant tonight and had an overall very poor experience. Overall, our service was very poor. We could've moved past this but the food was also not good. We ordered the chip and dip trio and for $15 dollars, it was a complete rip off. We were given a very small amount of chips and we had to ask for more in order to continue eating our dips. For dinner, we ordered the bbq bacon cheeseburger and the chicken fried chicken. All of our food besides the chicken fried chicken was not warm, so the food was clearly sitting as they waited to finish the chicken. The burger came without any cheese, lettuce, tomato, and red onions as it was supposed to. The chicken fried chicken and green beans were okay, but the mashed potatoes were barely mashed. The bathroom was also filthy as there was layers of dust collecting on the walls and ceilings in the stalls. It was a very poor experience and a waste of $100+, we will not be returning. read more

However, the food at Rock Bottom is way above average. You get so much more than you pay for, and that includes excellent service and huge portions. I was too busy chowing down to take pics. This used to be better. I didn't even get noticed when I walked into the bar area for 10 minutes. The people I was with, half of them had burnt food and sent it back. One lady, had a bad drink. Not enough seating anymore. Had to climb stairs to get to the bathroom, we are all over 50 and some struggle with mobility. Our server was great though. I didn' t get his name but he was really helpful and on point and prices were good for happy hour. They need a new cook and more seating in the bar area. We probably won't be back. read more

My rating is based on the bar experience only. We went for a flight; got super quick-super friendly service. They were busy but the bartender let me ask questions about the brewery, specials, and rotating casks. It was great speaking with him, and I appreciated the time he took to discuss good beer. Their beer flights are so cheap (6.50$ for 6 beers) with ample variety to choose from. They have descriptions posted everywhere, as well as a large wonderful beer menu. We loved 5 out of 6 beers! The right on rye is warm malty not overly sweet. The brown bear is rich. Raccoon red not only has a fun name, but a great taste. Sessions ipa was a bit flat. Hop bomb is amazing for any hop lover. I've been a loyal customer of Rock Bottom for years. However, today was the worst night. I was very friendly and polite to the waitress all night, and she was happy with our table. Regarding the bill, I showed her the coupon I got from the Rock Bottom app. She told me it did not work, and she had to run through the manager to make it work. I told her the coupon was still valid and not expired, so when it didn't work, it was Rock Bottom's issue, and the restaurant should take care of that. She went off and told me that I was f... rude. I requested to speak to the manager. She loudly screamed to the manager that we had a disrespectful attitude to get other people's attention. When the manager came, we explained the situation, and the manager resolved all the coupon and rewards issues. She came to apologize. I explained to her again that it was not her fault that the coupon didn't work; it was the system. She immediately said I was rude again, so I had to talk to the manager again. For more than 40 years of my life, I've never been cursed by a waiter or waitress because I always treat people with respect. It's not acceptable for a waitress to have that kind of attitude. Everyone has good days and bad days and deserves a second chance. She had her second chance, but she still ruined it. I'm genuinely disappointed. I won't go back to Rock Bottom anytime soon. I wish her the best. With her attitude, she won't make it far, regardless of what she does. read more

We were a little hesitant to grab lunch here because of the reviews but decided to give it a shot. The hostess was very friendly and quickly got us seated. Our waitress was also nice but seemed somewhat new. It took a while for our food and drinks to come out. So we were seating waiting without food or water for a little longer then I would want. The timing between the courses wasn't the best either - we essentially got the main dish right as we got the appetizer. But the food, was delicious. I got the chicken avocado and my husband got the umami burger. Both where well made, fresh buns, and great sauce. Also pretty large portions - I ended up taking half of my sandwich home. I was a little disappointed that we didn't get the waffle fries we expected (based on the menu) but regular fries. Either way, the food alone is a reason to stop by. We had cocktails but neither of us were impressed. Watered down and bland. It's a brewery so best to stick to the beer We enjoyed the food enough that I expect we will go back.
