So glad we stopped in on our way back to OKC from Tulsa. The buffalo burgers are amazing and I am not even a big burger fan! I got green beans instead of fries and they tasted fresh. We had Cowboy Candy as an appetizer but the best part of the meal was dessert. We got an oatmeal pie with ice cream- think a gooey oatmeal cookie. Fantastic. Additionally, I had no idea so many international visitors stop in here! It's a great experience- friendly staff- and phenomenal food. Fun little tourist trap. It has the whole "Cars" movie vibe as well as just being a fun stop on Route 66. We tried all of the dishes made famous on "DDD". Bison burger and Yeagerschnitzel are worth it. Pass on the Country Fried Steak-not a lot of flavor. Overall it was a fun experience if you're touring Route 66 from OKC to Galena, KS (inspired home of the Cars animated movie). read more

Great food - don't let the old exterior scare you away. Stopped for lunch and had delicious burgers and fries. Service was "small-town slow" as expected but well worth the wait. The place was packed and they were temporarily short-staffed but service was pleasant and sincere. When the food arrived, it was hot, good-quality and tasty. I almost made the mistake of passing this place on a road trip. Thank goodness I stopped, because holy moly the famous meatloaf was incredible. The staff was wonderful as well. We stopped because it was listed under kid friendly places in the Oklahoma Rt66 brochure. Not kid friendly. Table crowded dining room and profanity written all over the bathroom walls--- including the toilet seat! They do have a spattering of the Cars movie references, to seem kid friendly, as well as two weather worn and forgotten wooden Cars cut outs out front for photo ops. "hey kids, look extra happy to compensate for the sadness of the props!" Our coloring pages had profanity written in the activities by some adult who thought they were clever, so obviously the staff reuse the color pages and care little to ck them before doing so. The food? Limited selection. Overcooked, tasteless, fried menu. The wait staff seemed miserable, I didn't see a single one smile or behave as if they were doing anything more than a job. One woman sat at our table, like she was saddling up to a bar stool, to take our order- still, no smile- (...the hell?) To go box? 1.00 Share an adult dinner between two small children and ask for a plate? 2.00 Greedy, basic, lackluster, would describe this "cafe". All in all, this place is not worth leaving with chicken fried steak permeated into the fibers of your clothes. read more

I was beyond disappointed in this joint. How it ever got on tv is beyond me. I have the buffalo burger and it was $10 but really thin and flavorless. I was extremely disappointed. I've had better burgers at Freddie's. I also had the fried okra which was nothing special at all. I've had better fried okra from the freezer section at walmart. The only way I would eat here again is if I could have the same meal for $3.50. The waitresses did their jobs quickly and accurately but I never saw anyone smile. The place is absolutely teensy tiny and very dirty and run down. It gives new meaning to "hole in the wall". They don't even offer to go cups to take your drink with you. You have to buy a souvenir cup. I am bummed because I was excited to eat at a place that had been on tv but I am really missing what all the fuss is about. read more

There's not much else going on in Stroud, but at least there's some good food. The Rock Cafe is just a small dining room, and the service is primarily locals, but there's some serious cooking chops in the kitchen, and that was even evident in the simple breakfast I ordered - a ham and cheese crepe with hashbrowns and a side of bacon. Though the dishes are not complex, the refinement with which each item was prepared is what impressed me - the hashbrowns had a crispy exterior and soft interior, the bacon had a premium fat distribution and was cooked with a weight on top so the strips would be perfectly flat, and the buttery crepe worked well with the cheddar cheese and ham. Complicated food is not necessarily better food, and Rock Cafe proves this well. read more

I went on May 5th 2012, and was there at 2:45pm, there was an OPEN sign in the window from street, and a CLOSED sign on the door.... There were cars and bikers in the parking lot. We grabbed a couple of photos, and headed for the door, Condused by the conflicting signage, we tried the door, and were told, "We are closing." Embarrassed, we left. read more

I'm not a picky customer and usually give generous reviews but I was so disappointed when my husband and I stopped here for a late breakfast yesterday. We were offered only coffee mate for our coffee and whipped spread for my pancakes. Reading the ingredients on the side makes it clear both are nothing but hydrogenated plastic. Ugh! How much trouble/expense would it be to have those little individual containers if half-half? Real butter? The pancakes did have real blueberries but the pancakes themselves were kinda bland/blah. And of course the syrup was artificial. I guess if I want real butter and maple syrup I need to stick to Cracker Barrel, huh? However the service was good and of course the ambiance/history of the cafe is good. Just wish these small cafés would realize we don't want to eat plastic condiments! read more

Fun stop on a road trip West. Very cool history and tie in to the Pixar movie, Cars. Husband had mushroom-swiss burger with onion straws and gave it 5s. I should have known better but ordered the jaegerschnitzel, which was marginal - sauce did not taste homemade and the meat was chewy. However, it came with some of the best speatzle I have eaten! We also got to keep the Route 66/Rock Diner souvenir cups. Would definitely stop again on a road trip out west! read more

This was the morning of our route 66 trip that everything went wrong, i thought i lost all my stuff in a restaurant in tulsa that didn't open untill after 10.30. At 10.20 i found all my stuff, in my suitcase in the hotel... But when you think you lost everything you have while on vacation in a strange country you need to be comforted and with our delay we passed stroud come lunchtime. We saw this place on DDD and really wanted to check it out. The food wasn't really wow'ing us but maybe that's because we went with chili and a bacon cheeseburger. The staff was really cool though, the girl who served us made sure to take good care of us and when i came back in to go to the toilet after checking out the giftshop next door she dragged me into the kitchen to meet the owner and checking out their ancient stovetop! This was an all-round great experience! read more

At first glance, it seems like your everyday divey diner, but the food was a step above regular greasy fare. We stayed in Stroud with the intention of coming here for breakfast, since it comes up on every Route 66 list. We started with coffee, which was a godsend after sleeping in the car the last two nights. Boyfriend ordered a small order of beignets (homemade donuts), which arrived fresh, piping hot, and with a healthy dusting of powdered sugar. They were awesome and even better dunked in my refreshing coffee. A side of fruit jelly or syrup would have spiced them up a bit but I leave with no regrets. I had the sausage and cheese crepes which were exactly as described. The sausage was really tasty. It came with hash browns and a thick, fluffy slice of Texas toast that was clearly toasted on the grill. Yum. Boyfriend confirmed his southwestern omelet was also delicious. The grits were just ok - in my opinion, all grits should be cheesy grits but I'm from Wisconsin. Our waitress was about 14, which felt just right for this small-town dive. read more

My husband ordered the buffalo burger...it was very good but not the best. They do not accept AMEX and I always give one less star for places who don't. read more

A must eat at place. I'm sure if you live in Stroud then there is no need to tell you the food is great, in a small town word gets around. But if you like me traveling route 66, this is a must stop. Great service, great food, and I had a great time there as well. The owner even came out to greet us sence we drove so far and turned us on to some other local treasures. Who knew OK made wine? I wish i had a place like this near home. I ordered the Germen dish off the dinner menu. "Jagerschnitzel " yum yum! If you like chicken fried steak you'll love this breaded pork cutlet covered in a brown gravy and a dumpling side. By the way this place was featured on DDD with Guy Fieri. Since this whole CoVID situation has been going on, travels have been cutback. So this evening, I was going over an old journal I have from a Route 66 trip we took a few years back. The Rock Cafe has been on my list to stop since it was on Triple D. So on a day that had been absorbed with the Mother Road, we decided to make the Rock Cafe the destination stop of the day. What made it so memorable was the fact nothing has changed much with the exception of the menu over 45 years. Now the menu is not your typical Route 66 fare. Spatsel and with onion and bacon! This was excellent! But I was looking for the Holy Grail of Roadfood....... Meatloaf! I wasn't disappointed at all. This was Route 66 at it's finest with greenbeans (Fresh) and the best diner mashed potatoes ever. My wife rolled on me and got the Chicken fried steak. This was pretty epic too! But the coolest thing was to have the owner sign my official coffee cup for my collection. She's a star of sorts since one of the characters on the movie Cars was based on her. Again pretty cool. Now for the bread pudding! Should you be on the actual old Route 66 in Stroud Oklahoma, this is a must stop. Easy to find and delicious food. Conversation was better than good too! read more

My father-in-law and I are on a mission to try every fried pickle this side of the Mississippi, so we were pumped to find them on the menu here. They were pretty good! Lightly battered, perfect crunch, and sufficiently dill-ish. Served with Ranch dressing. A couple dashes of hot sauce improves the flavor and kicks it up a notch. They were a little too greasy but still very worth ordering. The burgers were really good. It's a thin burger (which I prefer) on a good bun. The end. I had a turkey sub with Swiss. 'Twas pretty good! I don't have a whole lot else to say--it was good food, friendly service, and fun to be on Route 66. I would recommend it if you're traveling that way. read more

The Rock Cafe used to have great food, that was before it burned down. We went there for lunch today and the hamburger buns were so old they crumbled when we tried to pick them up. We ended up eating our burgers with a fork and knife. They've raised their prices and lowered their food quality. It's really a shame as we used to love this place. It's a cute little restaurant with a super friendly staff, but the food's just not what it used to be. We won't be going back. read more

My son, his best friend and I stopped by on our vacation to the Grand Canyon via the historical Route 66. We stopped by the Rock Cafe in Stroud and had some rootbeer floats. We thought it was pretty fun to sign the walls. Surprisingly, the boys thought the best part of the Rock Cafe was the tic-tac-toe game in the outside patio area. We made some great memories at the Rock Cafe, thanks to a great staff. Thank you! Great little restaurant on Route 66. I had the Reuben and bread pudding, both were delicious!

Drove an hour to eat at the restaurant. We walked in, and whoever the lady seating people, is rude. It was like our family was an inconvenience for her. I've never been treated so rudely before. She was truely just hateful. Poor customer service!!! read more
