This place is the very definition of a hole in the wall (complimentary). Don't let the exterior fool you, they are hiding some top notch pizza inside this mini mall. The crust was super crispy, and just loaded with amazing, locally sourced toppings. The Carmine pizza had Colorado mushrooms, sausage with fennel, fresh basil, multiple types of cheese, including ricotta- my mouth was singing with all the flavors. They generously gave us some additional ricotta cheese- if you are willing to spend the $2 extra for that, you should. It MADE our pizza. The ranch and tomato sauce were good too, and believe you me we ate every bit of them, but the ricotta took it to a whole new level. The pizza was a good size for 2 people, we each got 4 slices and felt a little too full but not painfully full. You could feed 4 on it if you do an additional appetizer or dessert. This is a bare bones operation- they have a kiosk to order from, pay with card, they have a cooler stocked with various drinks. They do have a little bit of seating, so if you live too far to take it to go reasonably, you can absolutely eat it there. The owner was sitting out front and very friendly as he walked us through the ingredients and how long they had been there (3 years!). I got the Detroit style Carmine pizza and it had Colorado mushrooms, sausage with fennel, fresh basil, and multiple types of cheese including ricotta. The mushrooms were excellent, and this is coming from a guy who is very picky about his mushrooms. They just seemed to be top quailty to me, and local is always nice. The sausage was perfect and flavored just right, and of course I'm a sucker for ricotta cheese. The place just has a handful of tables, but none of that matters, because the pizza is incredible. Have been wanting to try Rock City Pie & Ice for quite a while now and am so glad we finally made it over!! I often like to gauge how much I like a place by how far I'm willing to drive to get it and the drive over from the East side of town was totally worth it! We ordered some cheese sticks, The Calabrian, and a strawberry water ice and loved every bit of it! The pizza was a bit smaller than we anticipated but it was jam packed with toppings and the flavors were top tier. The crispy cheesy crust is next level- it may have ruined all other pizza crusts for me. I also really appreciated the use of fresh herbs. The strawberry ice was so tasty as well. The staff was friendly and I thought the little candies in the to go order were a nice touch. There is limited seating and parking there so I'm guessing a lot of their business is carry out. Although it's a small space, it is a comfortable and relaxed spot. While the prices are a bit higher than I would expect, I don't mind as it looks like a lot of high quality ingredients. In this economy, we won't be able to visit as often as we would like but we will definitely be back for more! read more

Arguably the best Detroit style pizza in the Denver metro. They use 7 different cheese on most of their pies, cook them perfectly so you get the crispy edges without the burn, and have such fun options to choose from. It's a small space so mainly geared for takeout but there are 3 tables available for dining. They also make their own Italian ice which comes in a bunch of different flavors. Their giant cannolis are also incredible! It's located in an industrial area and the parking lot is a bit awkward but that's the only complaint I could possibly have about this place. Prices are very reasonable ($21-28) for most pies that can easily feed 2-3 people (it's 8 slices). They are quick and efficient too and the owner Jason is so friendly! Wasn't difficult this time around, but if the area is busy I can see how parking could be a pain. After reading all of the reviews I was so excited to order from here, especially because I'm gluten free. However, extremely disappointed and dissatisfied with the results. We ordered a gluten free pizza for me, which was $31 mind you. I expected the pizza to be much much better than what we got. While I will give credit where credit is due, usually the gluten free pizzas are smaller than the others pizzas, the gf and regular were the same size. However, not the best gluten free I've ever had. They are missing something in the sauce for starters. If you are a picky New York sauce lover (I lived in NYC for four years so I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to pizza) (and San Fran actually has a couple places with great sauce) the sauce here will truly disappoint. There was no flavor. No aura. The second disappointing thing was for the price (starting at $26) I expected the portions to be much larger or at least the toppings to have more. Load it up. It wasn't loaded up. I lacked luster. Not even close to the best bang for your buck. I actually was extremely saddened by how small our pizzas were (6"x10" roughly) (someone please correct me if I am wrong but that is approximately what size the pizza is, and for $26???) Long story short a lot of people have had a great experience here, unfortunately I am not one of them. This does not mean it won't be for you, it just wasn't for me. Delicious spot tucked next to an appliance store and liquor store. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Jason killed it not only with his service but just overall conversation. Now to the food. Started with a house salad great overall flavor crispy and the dressing was delicious Pizza Crust was crispy and definitely the highlight of lunch. All the toppings tasted delicious and the sauce on top tasted amazing. Last was the Italian ice CoConut was fantastic touch to finish off. Cool, new spot in Broomfield! It's a small, family owned business in a strip mall, only a few tables inside. I was excited to try Detroit style. The pizzas are small rectangles around $25 but they are thick! I loved the crispy edges. I ordered the meatball pizza. It was very heavy and greasy. The pizzas do come with a side of marinara and whipped ricotta, which is nice. I was also excited to try the homemade Italian ice. But, when I got there the freezers were empty. So, I ordered cannolis for dessert. They were large and very good. I don't know if I'd give the pizza another try. It wasn't my favorite and I thought the price was high for how small the pizza was. Even then, I was never the one to suggest getting pizza... until I tried Rock City Pie and Ice. This locally owned spot has quickly become my favorite takeout place in Colorado! Orders are easy to place online, ready quickly, and taste so good! Our go to is the Calabrian, but the Carmine is also delicious! One pizza is enough to feed two hungry people with a little bit leftover. Their homemade Italian Ice is also a refreshing end to the meal - Lime is my personal favorite. One small criticism is that the leftover pies really do need extra sauce and the included small container isn't enough. We found out about this place at a party. The guy describing the pies had us at cheese lined pans. We just picked up our Carmine pie and it did not disappoint. The crust was nicely crisped with caramelized cheese. The mushroom and sausage were about equal in amount. The dough is reminiscent of foccacia, down to the dimples. The best part was the creamy ricotta melted into the mozzarella! It also cane with extra marinara and creamy cheese for dipping. Not sure why someone would complain about 'too much topping'! Lol! My kids and I tried this place with a friend on a saturday evening. There were lots of ppl getting takeout, but we decided to eat there--glad we did! We got the 2 pizzas + salad for $55. It turned out to be a great deal. The salad was enough for all of us to share and had a nice balsamic dressing. For pizzas, we got the Calabrian and Carmine. Both came with a side of ricotta and marinara which we devoured. The Calabrian also came with this spicy red pepper sauce that was delicious. The crust is amazing here, thin burned ends in walls 2 inches high, its like every piece was a corner piece without the crust being too stiff. The toppings were generous and there was a good proportion of cheese. Honestly the pictures dont really do it justice, you just have to try it. My kids also got the blue raspberry ice and it was great and also a very generous portion. Some quirks: the red pepper comes in a shake bottle that comes out fast. The oregano looking stuff was actually an amazing dried green chile flakes that I am now addicted to.
