Great service, good beer disappointing food. Ordered potato skin $10 appetizer. Got 5 red potato sized skins, literally skins barely any potato left on them. Bacon & cheddar, bacon the size of bits. Are you kidding me. $10 crab, spinach & artichoke dip served with a ton of fresh tortilla chips. Chips were better than soupy dip. Haddock sandwich was very good, fries were mostly tiny pieces. Ok, I'm a foodie and if you are as well, steer clear of this one. Arrived at 7 and immediately felt unwelcome. I'm guessing the one kid was the bus boy, comes over and says you can sit at bar. Bartender was cool but didn't take our order after sitting there for 45 min. Finally found a table was empty and requested it. Long story short.....food was extremely underseasoned, service awful. We chose this restaurant because of its location and because it's menu seemed to have a good assortment of food. Reality is that although the service was friendly, it was awfully slow and the food, when it finally got there, was largely inedible. Rock Harbor is great! My fiancé and I absolutely love Rockland, and we make it a point to eat at Rock Harbor at least once during our trips from MA. The atmosphere is perfect - quiet and cozy. Happened upon this town and was looking for lunch when I spotted the sign from down the block. It wasn't obvious they were open. The waitress knew how to recommend a beer, which was nice. And the Copper House ESB was a great choice for my particular taste. I like a malty, chewy beer and this fit the bill nicely although I like the beer a little "thicker". While vacationing in the area we decided to try Rock Harbor, it was a dreary Sunday 7/22/18 about 6pm, we entered the restaurant it was busy but not crazy, the waitress was very nice, took our drink orders & that is when the wait began, it was very obvious the kitchen was understaffed, our waitress was doing her best & was running crazy, after waiting about 40 minutes (for cheeseburgers and sandwiches) she brought us some complimentary chips and apologized for the delay, as i was looking around i realized most had not been served and they have been there longer than we had, I was very surprised to not see a manager walking around making things happen, our food finally arrived (approx 1 hour after being seated) except my burger which the waitress said was dropped on the floor. I was hoping I wouldn't have to wait another hour. A few minutes later my burger arrived not really sure how a new burger could have been prepared so quickly. Now the review of the food: Chicken pesto on focaccia sandwich, this would have been good if the bread was fresh, it arrived cracked and continued to breakup as it was being held, the lobster mac and cheese my son ordered (17 years old and a foodie) he said the lobster was good but the mac & cheese was was the worst he ever had, the 2 burgers we ordered were undercooked and our rolls were soggy with bloody juice, but on a positive note the fries were good! This place could be fantastic with proper management and a real chef, I wish I had read the reviews before I entered this establishment, during my meal I was thinking this could be perfect for the show Bar makeover. read more

This was the oddest dining experience my friends and I have ever had. We went for dinner before a concert up the street. I can't even begin to describe how strange it was. And the food was terrible. We ordered an appetizer (buffalo chicken dip) and when it came we asked for small plates for each of us. The waitress was mystified by this request as if we were speaking a foreign language, but did eventually bring small plates. The food took forever, and at one point our waitress in training (yes we had two servers that night) came over and asked if we were waiting for entrees, and was surprised when we said yes. Hmm. When the food finally came one of the four of us did not get her meal, at all. The waitress apologized about 50 times but her food still did not appear. It was a cup of soup and a salad. When my salad came, it was without the dressing listed on the menu. When I asked for the "salsa ranch" dressing, again it was like I was speaking a foreign language. When I got the side of dressing it was basically mayo with some chunks in it. Inedible. My friend finally got her food and we had to take it to go in order to make it to the concert on time. In summary, we thought we were being pranked or maybe we were on candid camera- it was so terrible all around it was almost funny. Lesson learned, don't eat here. I hope I can save someone from this experience by sharing our story. read more

Reviews are relative and RHBC is relatively excellent! I was initially disenchanted to see so many IPAs on tap after unexpectedly finding RHBC (as my own personal taste buds have had their fill of IPAs in the past) but I was very pleasantly surprised to enjoy the Beacon IPA. Dan did a nice job making a refreshing IPA, drinkable to the most parched palate, whose description in the menu was quite accurate. I was glad (for Dan) and bummed (for me) to discover the stout was currently out. My next choice, Storm Surge IPA with cascade hops, was also out....better get some bigger fermenters! The atmosphere was nice and simple and parochial with clean bathrooms. I was happy to see MSL on some of the many flat screens scattered about. Midday clientele was a broad mix suggesting RHBC's place as a true pub-style meeting place for Rocklands locals and visitors alike. Staff were friendly and easy going although some could use more priming on craft brewing. The house burbon buger was a real buger: hand-packed ground beef cooked just right to order (not a previously frozen patty). The fries were house cut, lightly seasoned, and actually tasted like potatoes. The mussle app was a huge deep plate of lightly cooked Maine (not PEI) farmed mollusks. The massive size of the order made-up for the few mussles that didn't open. The "half" nacho plate (equivalent to a whole serving at many other establishments) was full of crunchy chips and had veggies and meat equally scattered throughout. We went there twice while attending the Blues Festival and we enjoyed the food and beer. I am an IPA aficionado and particularly enjoyed their Rogue Wave Double IPA, which is appropriately served in a snifter. The food was pretty good too. We shared a half order of loaded nachos one afternoon as a snack and had the pub burger and french dip one evening. Unfortunately a couple of major issues brought my rating way down. We sat at a table on the bar side and the bar tender, while nice and competent, was totally overwhelmed. They were inadequately staffed to handle the crowds associated with the weekend of a major festival in town. There needed to be at least two bartenders on duty instead of just one. Another issue was the huge banner outside which stated "$4 pints all weekend". We were very disappointed to learn that this only applied to commercially made brews, like Sam Adams, and not to their own house brews. Boo! False advertising! Clarify the sign to indicate this please! My impression is that the management is very talented at brewing beer, but not so much in running a business. read more

We enjoyed our experience here. We went there with our infant daughter. They were very accommodating to us. The food was reasonably priced and good, not great. I drank all house beers. Some were good; some were not. None of the beers were great. I suppose I am a bit critical after visiting Shipyard and the Maine Beer Company. We stopped here on our "Back Friday Maine Beer Trail run" and enjoyed a nice late lunch with a tasting of some RH beers. It was pretty crowded with Black Friday traffic but we found seats at the bar. The bartender was a little rough at first but warmed up to us. I had the veggie burger (good - not the best I've had but not the worst) while my wife got the haddock sandwich (she would give it a 8 out of 10, she says, but the tartar sauce was very tasty). The french fries were very good, light but crispy and not greasy tasting. The beers were very good - we tried the wheat, the pale ale, the ESB, and the brown and liked them all, especially the ESB (which as they explain is not a traditional ESB). We were not notified of the end of happy hour. 2 party's at our table were charged happy hour prices while one party was charged non happy hour prices when we ordered one round at the same time. The first smell you are hit with when entering is stale beer and not food. Very weird set up , one side is lots of families with babies and the bar is right there. The bartender was not friendly in any way. The handwritten sign with beer outside must have been old and they just put it out and don't pay attention. Beers listed not even in the place. Was not recommended any other beer. Dirty, smells and unfriendly. This is my 3rd time there.... still the same. Obviously the owner is never around or doesn't have high priorities ingrowing a business. Brought in our growler to fill and the bartender asks if it is clean , and just starts filling it.... wait what ! Had a growler filled lots of places and this is the first i have seen not washing it. Probably won't go back. Maine has many more breweries that want business. read more
