Really can't say enough about how wonderful Kurtis and the team at Rock Mill has been throughout our project. Kurtis knows stone and tile like no one else and can speak to not only the look but the durability, application, installation complexity, etc. He is very solution minded and really worked with us to make decisions with considerations of aesthetics, functionality and budget. Additionally, once we were approaching the finalization of our order, he rendered our rooms from the plans / elevations to ensure we were not over ordering and in the process caught a number of unrelated design elements that improved the overall look and feel of our home. BUYER BEWARE. I'm an interior designer in Arizona, and we purchased 10 slabs of Silver Roots Dolomite from Rock Mill. Unfortunately, this turned into a very costly and frustrating experience. From the beginning, the slabs showed issues with the polished finish, including visible etching and surface damage. The client loved the slabs so much we decided to polish out etching on the slabs. But during fabrication, my highly experienced stone fabricator discovered that all of the slabs were structurally compromised -- something that could not have been identified through a standard visual inspection upon delivery. According to my fabricator, the failure is caused either to improper storage conditions or defects during the milling process, specifically involving the epoxy and mesh backing adhesion. During fabrication the mesh and epoxy coating on the back of every slab peeled away, causing the slabs to literally fall apart during fabrication. Silver Roots Dolomite naturally contains dramatic veining, which makes proper reinforcement absolutely critical. When the epoxy and mesh fail, the stone loses its structural integrity entirely. I contacted my sales representative, Mark at Rock Mill, and was told that because we were outside of their 7-10 day inspection window, they would not assist us further. Again, these were internal structural failures that could not have been detected through a routine visual inspection. I reached out again afterward and received no response. In my opinion, these slabs should never have been sold without disclosure regarding their condition, brittleness, or possible age-related deterioration. Based on this experience, I DO NOT recommend Rock Mill. If this is how they handle legitimate concerns from someone within the design and trade industry, I would be very concerned about how the average consumer would be treated. read more

Receiving orders on time and not to be given the run a round. Was not pleased with the service

We just finished our house with all of the tile, limestone, granite and marble coming from Rock Mill. We worked mostly with Kurtis but everyone in the showroom is engaging and pleasant to work with. What made the experience extraordinary was how they delivered on both the art and the science. For the art, they took our designers concepts and suggested alternatives. Some were at a better price point, some had better wear or slip characteristics, but the collaboration was easy and, dare I say, actually fun? On the science side, Kurtis is really an expert on the means and methods of the assembly required to get the best look and best performance from each material. And, when it came to the marble counters in the kitchen, Kurtis, without us even asking, took digital pictures of each slab and then did a layout for each showing the cuts and where the pieces need to fit together. The result? We have a book-matched backsplash and grain-matched waterfall edges. (I didn't even know what those expressions meant when we started.) Finally, they did a great job handling the logistics. We had tile coming in from a variety of places and we didn't want to get started until we had all the material on hand. Kurtis worked his network to expedite when necessary and kept the whole project flowing smoothly. Could not be happier with Kurtis and Rock Mill. read more

The WORST customer service experience I have ever experienced in my life!!!! Martha is the worst sales associate I have ever encountered. She is rude, dishonest and will not call you back so you can pick up paid for tile. Curtis the owner needs to do a better job. We ordered tile that was in stock for our imminent hardscaping project. The tile was paid for, it took over 10 calls to Martha (the incompetent sales associate that unfortunately did my transaction) 3 weeks trying to get ahold of her, no one returning my call, having to make my way to the store again WHILE 8 months pregnant to then be told the warehouse would have my tile ready in a few days followed by another week of complete silence. I then made a direct call to the manager Curtis whom then told me my tile is MISPLACED and NO longer available (Tile amounting to thousands that was paid for!) My project is now delayed, they did not make any effort to rectify the issue. Their incompetence, lack of communication, sheer lack of respect for paying clientele and deceit delayed my hardscape project by 2 months!!! Martha should be fired and I'm sorry if anyone has had a similar experience. I would not recommend buying tile here under any circumstances. Go to Caltile in Torrance, Tile store in Lomita or simply find another Tile supplier. Don't waste time and money like I did! read more

Nice products, but expensive. The problem is the staff. I thought I was bothering the woman...by asking her one question (Clearly I was wasting her time by inquiring where the granite was) but I had no idea it could get much, much, MUCH worse. Its name is Kurtis. Least pleasant shopping experience in memory. Arrogant from his hello. He entered the store from outside, approached me and was clearly offended that I did not know that he worked there. (How could I?) The exchange went downhill quickly. A nasty human. We signed the contract for French limestone pavers and wired the money only to learn they ditched our (smaller) order to be added to a larger more profitable order. I'm an Architect and Interior Designer based in LA, and I worked with Kurtis at Rockmill on all the tilework I needed done in my own home renovation. Kurt did an excellent job providing us with options for our reno that were within our budget and timeline. He was available to us via showroom visits, text message, and even invited us to visit their Gardena warehouse which is full of full-slab options. Kurtis took great care to meet with us and ensure we understood all the details around what we could expect. He did 3D mockups of the master bathroom (in Sketchup) to give us options of how we would could layout our tile. He was efficient, communicative, and knowledgable. Kurtis provided clarity and transparency throughout the process. He noticed potential issues and provided solutions. He was attentive, available, and takes great care in his work. Kurt went so far as to recommend local installers which was VERY helpful so we were able to get our beautiful tile installed by local proven experts. It doesn't bring me any satisfaction to write this, but I feel an obligation to warn potential customers about Rock Mill and especially the manager, Kurtis. The store is very impressive and I was excited to find a place with so many unique and beautiful options. I was a few months into an extensive remodel and in need of suggestions and design advice. The master bathroom travertine I purchased is wonderful, but the rest of the rendering done by Kurtis was a patterned tile that looked awful and was also a very expensive Italian tile. I purchased tiles for a few rooms in the house, and ended up spending almost $30,000.00 at this store. After bathroom floor tiles were installed, there was enough left over to tile another bathroom! Kurtis literally ordered DOUBLE the amount that was needed! He ordered (and I paid for) a hexagon patterned shower pan, then told us to cut the extra floor tiles and use them for this purpose. After the Kitchen backsplash was completed, there was an additional two full boxes left, enough for half of the kitchen. In addition to this, 27 pieces of 1/8" tile liner, very expensive alabaster were left over. I asked to be refunded and was told by Kurtis that these are all special order and cannot be returned. When I pointed out that he did not measure properly, his response was "you and your general contractor had plenty of time to verify". Why would we question this man who has had so many years in the business and considers himself a "professional"? I even contacted Vince, owner of all Rock Mill stores, and neither takes responsibility for errors nor the burden it has placed on me - what am I going to do with all of these tiles? So, the bottom line is this: Kurtis is a tile salesman, and not a designer. He will steer you towards the most costly special order items. Make sure you really want them and then, CHECK YOUR MEASUREMENTS, as you are responsible for them and cannot get a refund. DO NOT trust that Kurtis and Rock Mill are acting in your best interest. Selling twice the amount the customer needs, then refusing to refund "special" orders certainly benefits them! I am disgusted, and DO NOT recommend this store. You will get better prices and customer service just about ANYWHERE else. read more

This is difficult for me as we worked with Rock Mill for an entire year during our remodel. While Monica was very helpful we did not end our remodel well. Our final purchase of 5 slabs for our kitchen was an awful experience. I drove all the way out to the warehouse where Rock Mill bought the slabs from so that I could just see the full size slab vs. the small cut they provide in store. I liked the slab and they recommended I put them on hold as they were the last ones "from the same dyelot". I did as they recommended and went back to Rock Mill to purchase them. Well, they certainly were NOT from the same dyelot and one of the slabs was actually "bowed". Once my fabricator picked them up from the Rock Mill warehouse were they signed off & released them he realized this once he had cut them and put them together (see picture below). Being my main contact/designer at Rock Mill I truly feel this discrepancy between the slabs should have been caught by Monica and/or anyone at the warehouse. Once the fabricator saw the issue he called me right away to show me and he even called Monica himself at Rock Mill to discuss what they could do about this situation. Well, unfortunately Rock Mill would not take ANY responsibility and blamed it on the fabricator AND myself! So, needless to say we had to buy TWO new slabs (as those were the last ones apparently, although they later "found" one after we purchased and installed the new slabs). In the end we were out $4k for two bad slabs and had an awful experience with Rock Mill after we spent A LOT of money there over the course of the year. Really sad they cared so little for loyal customers. There are many tile stores, I'd be cautious of Rock Mill being they are over priced AND lack customer care/support. read more

He drew up plans and gave us a quote based on a model he conceived, which worked perfectly! We saved money by not buying too much excess and we were able to get the supply in a timely fashion, which helped our project move along smoothly. Worst Service Ever. Needed an additional 10 sqft of tile and grout for 3 bathrooms. Waiting 3 weeks for the grout and 1 week for the 10sqft of tile. Asked the people at Rock Mill and they said "The process is we call you when it's in. You don't ask." Called the tile installer and he got the grout at Lowes and said he tells all his clients not to use Rock Mill. I have never been treated so badly at an over priced store. read more

Very poor customer service. Spoke to the sales rep and requested a quote regarding a tile they had on display. She explained that this particular tile was warehoused in NorCal and would cost an additional $100 in freight and take a week to receive. We exchanged information and told me that she would send me a quote shortly. This timing wasn't going to work for our situation so we went looking for other options in Anaheim. Monica Azer, our sales consultant, was so great at working with us and our designer and helping us navigate the process. She's patient, a great communicator, knowledgable and fun to work with! Martha Escutia was terrific at keeping us posted on schedules, arrival dates for various parts of our order, etc. And while we didn't work directly with sales consultant Ingrid Kirt, it was always such a treat to be greeted by her whenever I came into Rock Mill, and I so enjoyed our conversations. I have worked with Kurtis at Rockmill on multiple projects now and have always had an exceptional experience.  They have a great selection of tile and stone at different price points and have always been helpful in providing me samples and pricing. Placing the order was easy and I recieved a call and email to let me know when my order was ready. The material came quickly and Kurtis went above and beyond to rush an order of new trim pieces when my installers broke them on site. We initially received good service (I say good because they're expensive and it wasn't anything near white glove) but then Rock Mill did not take responsibility when we received the wrong slab of tile for our kitchen island. After a month of haggling (after spending a small fortune), they EVEN admitted that they sent us the final slab from a different dye lot. WOW. From reading these other reviews I am absolutely appalled. This is my first time using rock mill for a master bathroom renovation and the store manager Kurtis and Monica have been BEYOND helpful. I never write reviews nor do I really use yelp but felt compelled to share my experience. Kurtis has spent hours helping me pick the right slabs and tiles to use and even went as far as to visit the job site and double check measurements to ensure I am ordering the correct amount and pointed out critically errors that my contractor made in my bathroom that is going to save me thousands in the long run. I purchased all the stone, exterior basalt, tile and specialized grout for a new build and full renovation from Curtis at Rock Mill. I did shop and look around at a nearby store down the street, and by far Curtis spent more time with me, had great suggestions, was more knowledgeable, and provided outstanding follow up. We also went to the stone yard to pick out all the slabs we purchased, and the crew out there were great also. Prices are better too!
