Was trying to support small/local shops, took a bike in since brake disks were rubbing against something and making a sound, and also wanted to put kickstand on, and let them know the road tires made it hard to put the kickstand on without hitting tires. Was called a few days later when bike was done. As I walked bike to door, I can feel something wasn't right on the bike. Looked carefully and the kickstand was rubbing against the tires. Am not sure how the person can walk the bike from the back and not notice this. Fortunately, they were able to swap out the kickstand and I thought all was good.... Turns out, rear brakes stopped working completely (they didn't take responsibility for it but it was working before). I took the bike back in and they basically said to try to get it repaired under warranty at REI. If not, they can research how to fix it and find the part to repair. Also, the employees didn't wear masks while repairing bikes and sometimes forgot to put masks back on when coming to the front (this is well before mask requirements are going to be lifted). read more

Props to the folks, including Manager Chris Williams, at Rock N' Road Cyclery for keeping it real for longer than I could remember. I went to a local shop in LA for a tune up not too long ago, and found that their service was dismal in comparison to what Rock N' Road have provided me over the years. They have plenty of parking in this shopping plaza and are exercising social distancing. Only a few patrons are allowed in a at time (I think max. 4-5) and others must stay outside until there's room to walk into the store and present your questions at an up-front table. From there a sales and service representative can go over all the options a road or trail riders. They are a Specialized bike retailer, so you'll see their product lines throughout the store. I have always wanted stay true to my Specialized bike with products that the OEM manufacturer has developed and think that's always a nice way to go. While the bike is still in good shape, Chris was able to help me find a new OEM seat for long rides that avoided saddle soreness. I think I'll be much happier on longer ride. It was affordable too! I was able to check it out in person, which always helps more than a mail order option. He also provided me with a on-the-go option for my handlebars to face up and assisted me with a solution that was amazing! They now angle up and I have far less back pain than I've ever had. I can bike for longer periods and in comfort - the way riding should be enjoyed. I cannot thank Chris enough for his time, patience, and explaining everything before and as he did them. I also picked up some cleaning parts and have been able to clean my chain and gears to give them new life. With a frank attitude and no upselling, Chris's demeanor and willingness to help on the spot is the reason why I will only come back to Rock and Road for my Specialized bike. read more

Had a bike tire that was flat and easy to take off, that once was inflated was not going back on past my brakes. I took it to Rock N Road, and the manager was soooo helpful. He took the time to teach me how to easily disengage my brakes so the inflated tire could go on, and even put some air in my other tire. My son crashed into my wife's bike and suddenly the back wheel couldn't move anymore. I took it into Rock N Road Cyclery and the technician immediately took a look , adjusted the breaks and realized the wheel had dislodged, so he reattached it and showed me how to adjust the breaks in the future. I encountered 4 people and 2 of them where super friendly, but the other 2 not so much. They failed to deliver my bike on the date as promised and failed to get me my part, so I ended up taking my bike elsewhere. Sadly wasted a lot of time and gas going here. Also the entire shop gave me this expensive vibe feel, for example my broken part was a $40-$100 fix and they suggested I'd get an upgraded one that cost $500-$700. After years of buying bikes at big box stores, I decided to get a bike at a local bike store to support the business especially during these times. I researched quite a few stores and I picked RnR because they have multiple locations and had the bike I was looking for (Specialized). Now I know why people buy bikes from a shop with the staff and experience to help you post-sale. Had an issue with my derailleur a few weeks after my purchase and they were able to fix it pretty quickly despite having a number of assembly and warranty service bikes to work on. Everyone is buying/riding bikes right now so they are very busy but they are observing safe Covid-19 protocols by only allowing one customer per service person. This is a solid bike shop. Every time I have come in, the staff has been right there asking to help. I appreciate that. I've had them change a flat for me, and they were quick and reasonable. Most recently, I was in shopping for a hybrid bike for my son. He is moving up from a kid's bike to an adult size. The staff person I worked with was as helpful as he could be, but they just did not have anything that we wanted. They carry Specialized bikes, which are pretty nice but also pricey. TONS of community ride and community race or event information available here, too. Be sure to check out their Over The Hump race series they participate in every summer at Irvine Lake. It had been a minute since I stopped in at Rock N' Road in Woodbury and their service was terrible in the past. I was pleasantly surprised during a recent visit when Parker, the Assistant Manager, was so informative and helpful. He installed my clipless pedals and answered all my questions. Unfortunately I struggled to clip in when practicing at home so I came back a few days later for guidance. Sheldon patiently instructed me on how to clip in and out and set me up to practice on their trainer. We chose a Specialized Roubaix, a 2014 model and the only one in their inventory. I had a road bike repaired here recently. They talked me into getting new tires as well. The rear tire lost all air in a few days after the repair. I took the bike back. They refused to take the bike to fix the bike "not until June 11th" or something like that. I asked if they would consider keeping the bike until then. "No". I am a complete bike noob and just bought a road bike off craigslist. Walking in I didn't get much attention but when they saw me looking around clueless for the blinker lights they asked if I needed help. One of the guys directed me to the section where they have all these lights and gave me an explanation of what lights would be suited for illuminating or just visibility to others. Although he helped direct me to certain lights, I never felt pushed to buy anything. In the end I wasn't really interested in any of them and just picked up a U-lock. I mentioned seeing a 15% off back to school deal on the locks but the guy said the deal already expired a few days ago but was willing to honor it. Pushing my luck I asked if I could also stack the free inner tube Yelp deal with it and he was willing to add it in. I felt embarrassed cause when he asked what kind of inner tube I needed I had no idea. He was willing to help figure out for me without the bike being present. Overall I felt customer service they provided was relaxed and patient. Despite my stupid questions and lack of knowledge I never felt like I was being talked down to. They just answered my questions and gave me thorough explanations. I will probably be bringing my bike here for a price quote and think this shop is worth checking out. After a couple months of riding with athletic shoes I decided to purchase my first pair of clip-ins. I came to this store and they were very helpful with explaining the different levels of shoes and what the various advantages were. Came away with a pair of Specialized, one level below the S-Works. First ride being clipped in was a game changer.
