Needed garage lighting. Two young me helped me to figure out the best fixture to get based on my wants and needs. It worked out perfectly using two LED lights that I can change the bulbs when they go out rather than to toss an entire fixture in the landfill, and that made sense to me. I did research the lumens I would need for good light....too many lumens can look very blue, so I downgraded about 25% for the space. It was perfect. Worst customer customer service ever! When we went in to rent a truck the girl told me there was a ramp we could use on the truck. After 30 minutes of typing with her long nails she rings us up and then I asked her again where the ramp is. She told me it was hiding somewhere in the truck. We went out to look and there was no ramp. So we can back in to ask again. Then another employee tells us there is no ramp. This already wasted 10 minutes of our time. At menards it 75 minutes rental time. After 75 minutes they charge more. Poor customer service. read more

Ummm is this how all Menards are set up?? I am spoiled with my two-floor-piano-player-at-the-top-of-the-escalator Menards in Hodgkins, and the layout is cohesive there. This one seemed a little more choppy and hard to navigate. And the whole requirement that you HAVE to pull the carts from the front was also a foreign concept to me (if you take from the back, a turnstile blocks your way). Once we started making our way around, we were able to find what we were looking for and got good prices, as expected. I spoke with one associate to find an item and he pinpointed me to the exact aisle no problem. I appreciate the knowledgeable employees! We were in the area so hence why we stopped in. I definitely prefer my regular Menards better. read more

I love a good hard wear store. I like their section of lighting here. Larger than many other hardware stores. Great seasonal section, flooring/tile, knobs and handles, and plenty of house cleaning needs here. One downer is i haven't had the best luck in the paint department. I came in asking questions about a kit to redo my cabinets and about paints for cabinets, Etc, and the young man at the paint counter had no idea and couldn't help really at all. I do find than it's a 50/50 chance you'll get an employee that just isn't friendly and isn't very helpful or just plain doesn't know. The other half of the time you get someone who is clearly great at helping and finding answers for you even if they don't know the answer themselves. Overall I like this store for specific needs and will be stopping in again before too long. I love a good DIY! read more

Bad Customer service They were supposed to hold 3 boxes of tile at the front a associate from Hanover park called them on Sunday and they said they would he told them my wife will be there Monday to pick it up surprise no tile when she got there so she had to wait in the dept. till someone came to help and when I called and spoke to Jeff the manager who was totally unprofessional he did not believe me and was no help at all he told me I do not think that happened !! Eh, hard to write this without making it too long. Basically, placed a large order for cabinets, counter tops, paint, etc. to do kitchen and one of the counter tops was unfinished on one side and one was dropped during the move. I knew a 11% cash back sale was coming but I needed them done during that period so I ordered anyways. 3 weeks and 2 11% cash back sales happened before the problem was resolved and I wasn't able to get the Menards credit that I would have waited for if I knew there would be an issue. Also, we were not provided any hardware for mounting the cabinets and none was suggested. The filler that was supposed to be delivered was not, no one told us the importance of having extra counter top length to make installation better, the L shaped counter top was in two pieces, one of which was cheap (which is how it broke during delivery), and probably some other issues I can't remember. Main problem is with customer service. I wrote Menards two physical letters, first reply was basically that it wasn't their problem, it's the counter top people they use's fault and the 2nd I received no reply at all. Will be going to Lowe's or Home Depot in the future. read more

Very upset the rebate is sent to my house inside an ad. I have lost three rebates totaling $130 because of this and they say there is no way for menards to help. I have to contact a third party via email. Home Depot actually sends a store credit card and you never mistake it for an ad. Also when menards has the 11% off sale go to Home Depot they will match the 11% and give it back sooner and in a better way. read more

Man this place has everything and on the cheap. The one downside of a megastore is it takes 45 minutes to pick up 3 items unless you know exactly where they are. After asking for help 3 or 4 different times and looping the entire floor at least as many, I made it out with anchor bolts, gable vents, and the knowledge that IKEA is the place to go for curtain rods ($0.99 vs $14.99!!!). read more

Every time I have come to this Menards I always seem to find more unpleasant workers than pleasant. Today we did have two nice workers, Bill and Alicia who tried to help us find what we needed. The unpleasant and unhelpful worker was a woman behind the paint counter. When we asked where a product might be she didn't even look at us , she just pointed and said "the other end of the store". Only to find out it was actually IN the paint department! I have honestly never met a nice worker in the paint department, they are all rude. I understand they might not want to work there but at least they have a job, they should appreciate it more! read more

2nd time this year when customer service was unbelievably not helpful . I asked for help to bring up a box that was to big for my cart which was already full and I had my 4 year old grandson with . Wanted to give props to two great Menard's staff members who were able to help my dad and I find exactly what we needed on the night of Saturday, June 25th, 2016. We were looking for certain sizes of cedar boards, and Menard's is our go-to store. However, with vast selections in large, even different locations throughout the store (inside and outside), it was hard to locate exactly what we were looking for. Some warehouses are outside and it was blistering heat this night, and we seemed to be misdirected several times in our search, and we were on a goose chase for awhile (the other employees were ALSO helpful, but they couldn't help us pin down the EXACT location of what we needed). After about 40 minutes, we were helped by two employees named 'ENZO' and another 'MIKE' (since Mike is a common name and there may be several in the store, this Mike seemed to work near rear of store, or outside with the forklifts. Hat, several earrings). Both Enzo and Mike were overly helpful in helping us find exactly what we needed. Enzo also told us that since we had been given an unintentional run-around, he would be happy to cut the boards we needed to the exact size at no extra cost to us. We didn't need the boards cut in the end, but this was a nice gesture. Props to these two helpful and great employees for helping us. read more

I only shop there if I'm in a rush for time, otherwise Home Depot is much better. Went to purchase garden hedging and saw a great deal, so I snatched up 5 boxes. Only to find out at checkout they were incorrectly shelved. So instead of honoring the price on the shelf the cashier asked me if I still wanted them. Of course I didn't. I jokingly asked if she wanted me to take them all the way back to the garden center she said "that would be nice." Ok lol. So I did and put them on the correct shelf. Was frantically looking for a screw to reinstall bay window valances in my front room. House is going to be rented this week, and needed to have window treatments up for house to be seen ASAP. Didn't have time to order from AMAZON or search other sites. Went to Menard's on North Avenue in West Chicago on Friday 3/2/18. I decided to take window rods with me, since one of the screws i desperately needed was still on one of the rods. Unable to find anything in drapery dept. However, lady from blinds was kind enough to walk me to the screw dept. to have someone help me. Edith and Zack from that area were my lifesavers............. They both did their very best to help me solve my dilemma. Zack found a screw!!!!! The screw was only .39, but it made my disaster turn into a helping hand.... Zack didn't have to guess..... within seconds, he was able to solve my problem. Talk about personal service........ just wanted to commend both Edith and Zack for their customer service and knowledge. They both area truly a great asset to Menards. read more

Yesterday my boyfriend and I purchased a mattress. We walked up to a check out line where the cashier was having a conversation with another employee ( ok doesn't bother me ) So the mattress was $600 before even ringing anything up I let the very young gentleman know we would be splitting the payment 3 methods $100 cash $300 on my card and the remaining on my boyfriends. He said no problem ! Handed him the $100 cash then he continued to converse with an employee so I interrupted him , "can I charge $300 now on my card " he said yes. Then continued to converse so we interrupted again and asked if it was okay for my boyfriend to go ahead and swipe. He said yes gave us out recipet and we left. We're picking up the mattress today ... And apparently they won't give it to us because the young man at the register messed up the transaction and input that we paid only in cash. So we have Menards employees hounding our phones asking for our credit card numbers over the phone and rudely acting like this is no innconvience to us , when spoke to JAMIE who lied and told me she was the store manager she said things such as "is this conversation over yet" they have offered NO customer service gesture for our inncovience. Technically we have a receipt saying we payed for the mattress in cash , now we're not scumbags, we don't mind paying for it but due to lack of an employees attention wouldn't you offer something ?! 10% off 20% off free delivery ???? I will never shop at Menards for anything ever again. Save yourself the hassle and go to Home Depot. Jamie skraba "the assistant" manager is the rudest employee I have ever encountered told me to stop talking at one point of our conversation and then proceeded to cop a 5 star attitude throughout the whole ordeal , being in management myself, this is no way to handle an upset loyal customer NEGITIVE 10 stars for Jamie. read more

I'm new to the area as we bought a fixer-upper last year nearby. We've gone to this Menards for EVERYTHING. Probably made about 40+ visits there since May last year. Good people worth there who actually look at you in the eye and offer help finding things. We've had one mishap where a young carpet/flooring guy mis-measured a carpet we bought. Though we didn't do a return on the carpet, even though it was shy of covering our floor, customer service reimbursed us well to deal with the problem. Prices are almost always good, making returns easy. Ambiance and lighting of the store is better than most Home Depots I've been to. We've made large purchases in every department at this store. Appliances, grocery, lumber, garden, plumbing...etc. There is a Hope Depot just about the same distance from our place, but we go to Menards. read more

I've had nothing but terrible experiences at this location. First off, there's always a ten minute wait at the register. Then before that, you can never find a sales person easily, but when you do find someone (or call) and talk to someone, all you get is a rude response like I should know what I'm talking about. When I go to a home improvement store, I go looking for help and advice. If I was a professional, I wouldn't be asking for help! Nothing sets me off more than when I'm asking for help and direction, and I'm looked at like a fool for trying to do something on my own. We bought a water softener here last week and the associate knew nothing about the product (which takes an entire aisle of the store mind you). Went to another Menards and the associate gave us advice, too bad it was also crap. Then again, if an employee knew that much about water softeners or plumbing, they'd be a plumber ha so essentially, don't go here for advice. I am pretty satisfied with this location. We had an amazing cashier who worked with us- her name is Rachel and she was wonderful. We had a nice guy help us load our car. Only thing that I would have liked to have is someone to help load the 16 packs of porcelain tiles onto the cart and bring it to the front. If I didnt have a friend with me it would have been so hard to drag it- it was hundreds of pounds-- SO HEAVY! I know a lot of this is self serve but maybe menards can encourage employees to help when they see people are loading large amounts of items that are heavy? Just a thought. Otherwise I was pretty happy with how clean the place was and the employees were friendly. read more

This is by far the worst hardware store I have ever shopped at. And today was the last straw. There have been several occasions where I have been asked how I was doing, I said I'm looking for window trim, the employe then said well have a good one. Now to today, I bring up 2 tanks to be refilled with propane, the employe proceeds to fill a tank that is half full and does not tell me till my credit card has been charged and the tank was full. Her response was oh well it's one flat free. I said to her why wouldn't you tell me that before you filled it, she walked away. I asked to speak to a manage and all he said,with a little smirk on his face, is there is no way to prove it was half full when the employe told him she had told me. I will officially never shop at menards again. I will go out of my way to shop at HOME DEPOT. I hate menards. read more

My best advise is don't rely on Menards to match paint. We bought paint for our living room 3 years ago. We went back to get the same paint because we needed to touch up and guess what they cannot match it. We spent 45 minutes while they tried different formulas-none worked. Now our only choice is to repaint the whole wall. They explained that they changed formulas and magenta is not magenta anymore. What? I said the paint does not match. Then the girl( under 25) said No it doesn't match now. What does that even mean? Is it going to match sometime in the future? So there is no point in keeping the code from the can or even having a paint code. We have a friend who chose a paint color from the rack and it didn't match the swatch. Menards may do a lot of things well but paint mixing is not one of them. read more
