True story (and it might mitigate your opinion of this review). I purchased a new 2009 Aprilia RSV1000R from Darragh and Rockridge Two Wheels. I bought the bike, sight unseen, based on two factors: 1- It was exactly what I wanted and Rockridge offered a great deal to move an '09; and 2- The Yelp reviews on his shop gave me the faith I could buy an expensive bike at a long distance from Oakland -- I live in Seattle -- and not worry about getting ripped off. Here's the thing: I've only exchanged emails or talked with Darragh on the phone. I've never seen him in person. And I've never had the bike worked on by his mechanics. I've never even set foot inside his shop. BUT, he was a total professional on the phone and in email. He understood my nervousness about making such a large purchase on faith and at a distance. And if he conducts his business in his shop the way he did with me at a distance -- he even helped with the shipping -- then he runs a great place. I'd not hesitate to do business with him again. read more

signing on to yelp just to rave: all i needed was a tire mounted on my wheel, so they new going in that they weren't going to make big bucks on me. but they did this simple job very efficiently, charged me a very reasonable rate, and were uber-friendly in the process. i hadn't realized this place had moved up to North Oakland, but i'll look for chances to spend more money there in the future. read more

They were really friendly when I brought in my cheap chinese scooter (I'm a poor grad student, I can't afford a vespa), and talked to the parts company when the fuel petcock needed to be replaced. That said, they gave me what seemed like a hefty labor bill given that the only thing wrong with it was the petcock (I think someone messed with it/broke it; was $242 for just labor)-- they did some tune-up things too, but nothing else was wrong with the functionality. I don't really have a reference for comparison though, so maybe that price is completely reasonable. read more

Love this place. I took my Vespa in this week after messing up my brakes and they fixed a couple of issues for a very good price and got me back on the road the same day. They also must have regulated the tire pressure and tightened something up, because this thing used to rattle like crazy and now it is super smooth and quiet! read more

I had the unfortunate experience of buying a scooter from these people, and while they are indeed very knowledgeable they are not very professional. They also like to add a lot of fees that other places don't, for instance "destination" and "inspection" fees, which account for almost $600. I purchased a $1999 scooter and got stuck with a $3000 tag, which really irks me because the guy i spoke with said i would walk out paying no more than $2600. These people are not trustworthy, i should have done more research before buying my scooter, stay away from this store! read more

We love rockridge two wheels! We bought our first scooter there, a Vespa 150cc sprint in 2015. Great service. Knowledgable staff. Great advice for parts and accessories etc. we continue to go back for occasional tune ups and support. read more

I really like this shop- the owner Darragh is really nice. I've brought my gnarly beat up old Honda scooter in there a number of times and they'll do little things like charge a battery or diagnose something you can take care of yourself for free, and when I've got a tuneup or something else requiring more time, the work was always done quickly and I've never had any problems with it. read more

I had my throttle cable replaced with Two Wheels back in March and for reasons we have yet two resolve it continued to break three more times within the next nine months. I had it replaced once more at SF Vespa where I purchased my scooter. Darragh was extremely understanding and agreed to refund my last two invoices for approximately $250 because of my inconvenience. His customer service was stellar and I would recommend his shop. read more

they did a nice job on my vespa... replaced a tire.... diagnosed a hesitation problem....... replaced my plug, which hopefully is the issue. the plug was pretty bad. deglazed my brakes...... checked on whether i put in the right oil..... nice job! read more

A part broke on my scooter. I called around. Some shops didn't return my call. A couple told me the only part available would cost $300. Two Wheels immediately called me back, located the correct part for $20, and finally installed it. I'd go back there for service in a flash. read more

This is kinda tough for me to write, because I really wanted to like this place, but I'm just fed up. So I got a flat tire on my scooter, yelped up the nearest place, it was here - great reviews, etc... So I brought it in. $100 to change the tube, and re-inflate the tire. Ok, a little steep but they got me in and out on the same day, and they all seemed like nice guys. So I bring it back here later because I have a stalling problem, I've already changed the spark plug cap, that didn't work, so I brought it in to the mechanic. They say it's the choke assembly, no problem - another $100. Two days later the exact same problem comes back - I call them up, they say they'll order a new choke - no problem, $15 dollar part, it'll come in 4-5 days, they'll take care of me since the problem wasn't fixed. Ok, I call back 4 days later - oh, maybe 7 more days. WTF? Finally it comes in 2 weeks later (I have to keep calling them, they don't call me back, the bike is unusable, my commute sucks etc...) They install the new choke, and want $250 for it! I'm like, that's not the deal, I already gave you $100 and you didn't fix it! So they say ok, "$70 for the part itself, (formerly $15) also you have a problem with the ignition coil, we can order that too." I'm like no thanks, I get the bike home ok, the next morning (today) It won't start! Exact same problem! It was clearly the ignition coil the whole time. So now I've dropped $170 and wasted three weeks for nothing, I'm back at square one. So I'm finished with Rockridge 2 Wheels, I'm going to have to have somebody else order the coil (another 7+ days) and install it. Damn. They all seemed like nice guys too. Unfortunately their emphasis seems to be on keeping me coming back instead of definitively identifying and fixing the problem. read more

Like some of the other reviewers, I also really wanted to like this shop. I even needed to like it. But after a few mediocre to shameful experiences, I will be riding my 150 across the bridge to get service worth paying for. A few comments before I go into what happened: Yes, the guys seem like nice folk. I would also say that they don't endeavor to do work that doesn't need to be done. But the way business is done is not smooth. Having said that, unfortunately, this is very often the case with scooter/motorcycle shops. It's hard to find a shop that has highly competent repair/service staff and highly professional/ fair/ transparent retail staff. In short my last experience went something like this: Took the Aprilia in for a number of repairs. The service writer jotted everything down. I left without a receipt or copy of work order (my mistake). I came back several days later and paid the bill. After riding it a bit I noticed some relatively minor things hadn't been done. The adjustments were important to me but didn't cost much to do. When I took it back, they were happy to do the work. I come back to pick up the bike again and pay another few hundred dollars. The service writer's explanation is that you weren't charged those costs on you first bill so we need to charge them now. Makes sense, right? But it wouldn't have cost me as much had they done it when they were supposed to in the first place. Service writer understood my point of view, but clearly didn't seem phased from his position. At this point I've paid about $850 for routine maintenance between the two bills. Recession prices, right? I leave and realize that one of my wheels is not properly balanced. I come back and now the service department is sick of me. They claim that the wheel was balanced correctly, the vibration is insignificant and it is most likely caused by me having bent my fork somehow. An unlikely explanation from my point of view, but a small possibility. I'm rather uncomfortable with the service staff at this point given the bumpy ride we've had together. But I cozy up with them to get a little better understanding of the overall situation on my 10000+ mile scoot. It turns out that the service staff member starts to explain to me that the model of scooter I own is a ticking time bomb ready to explode at any moment and that I should unload it as soon as possible. He also said that the parts necessary for an attempted adjustment were not readily available from Italy. Concerned, I call around for second opinion up and down the West Coast. I called about a dozen shops from Seattle to LA asking their opinions on this particular issue. Nobody said that the model I own was inherently flawed as the RRTW tech described. Two shops in San Francisco patiently described the routine preventative maintenance that could be done to address any of what the RRTW staff called the ticking time bomb issue. In sum, not only was the experience very aggravating, but I was basically told me that they are not capable of competently servicing your scooter (because your scooter is a POS). Now, if were to ignore the subtle hints of the tech and continue have the scoot serviced there, it seems to me that I would deceiving myself to believe that they would be taking pride in the work they did on my scooter. As I mentioned at the beginning, I own an Aprilia. This is a make and model that they SELL! They are now owned by Piaggio. This is not some piece of Chinese trash (which do have serious issues being properly repaired for a number of reasons). If you are not able to, or don't believe in providing the services you advertise or servicing the products you sell, I do not believe you should be in business. Period. read more

I don't see where these glowing reviews come from. Okay, granted, they sell top of the line scooters, a good thing in a world of cut-rate deathtrap Chinese garbage. But sales are only half the story; this guy doesn't even stock something as basic as replacement cables or tires. I snapped a clutch cable on my Vespa one Saturday. "What luck!" I thought, "that high- end scooter shop is just down College near Broadway!" So, pushing the bike the ten or so blocks seemed like no big deal. I'd pay the nice man, pop off the cowl, slide in the new cable, and I'd be back on the road with greasy hands and the wind in my face. So imagine my surprise when I was told they stocked no cables or any of the most common basic parts any scooter needs - no spark plugs, tires, inner tubes, grips, bulbs, fuses, switches, lenses. So I pushed off to The Bent Spoke bike shop. THEY have cables. I bought six, if only to avoid ever again darkening the doorway of Rockridge Two Wheels. It's a great place to drop $400 on a helmet, but for daily maintenance you're S.O.L. Okay, they did have a single half-quart of two-stroke oil. Must've been a mistake. read more

I've been buying motorcycle accessories at Rockridge Two Wheels since 2010. Darragh has always provided personal and friendly service. I have bought almost all of my riding gear at this store including helmets, jackets, pants, boots, gloves, etc. I have also bought bike parts like batteries, tires, and spark plugs. If an item is not in stock Darragh can usually get it overnight for no extra charge. He has always given me discounts, and he even matched the internet price when I bought some expensive Metzeler tires. Several times I have returned items that I did not like, and he had no problem taking them back without any restocking fees. The only problem with this store is that their business hours are not very good for me -- they do not open until 11 am which does not jibe with my work hours very well; nevertheless, I must say that overall I am very happy with the personalized service I've received there. read more
