    Key Encounters ..

If I could give Rock's Lounge zero stars, I absolutely would. I was walking around Red Rock Casino and decided to stop by this particular bar setup. What followed was a display of poor service that's left me questioning this establishment's priorities. I stood at the bar, waiting to be acknowledged like the other patrons, but the bartender had other plans. He was glued to the television, doing the occasional scan of the room, but somehow, I seemed invisible. When he *finally* glanced in my direction, it wasn't to serve me. He cut his eyes at me and went right back to watching the TV, completely disregarding that I was standing there, clearly waiting for service. After realizing that the TV was far more important than a paying customer like myself, I decided to walk away. As I left, I took a photo of the situation--a perfect snapshot of the bartender still more invested in what's happening on screen than in doing his job. My question to Red Rock Casino is this: Is this the type of image you want to portray to customers? I would hate to speculate that my treatment had anything to do with my appearance, especially when the clientele at the bar was all of one shade and I happen to be another. But this experience left me wondering. I sincerely hope this was just a matter of poor customer service and not something deeper, though the feeling was hard to shake. Ultimately, I hope management takes a hard look at the kind of service their employees are providing--or rather, not providing.

I have always wondered what the theatre was like at Rocks Lounge in Red Rock Casino because from the outside it looks like there's not much there. I had a ticket for their monthly Brunch to Broadway show and I found out it's much larger than I expected. Entering just beyond the west side of the video poker bar, you enter and see this good sized theatre with two sections of chairs. I managed to get a seat in the front row--the place you'll normally see me--and it turned out to be a very good show in s quite comfortable theatre. Now that I know how nice the theatre is, I'll keep my eye out for programs at Rocks Lounge and go to see more.

The lounge was the setting for a HalloWine event sponsored by 107.9 FM. I can't recall the last time I've been to an event at Rocks Lounge, so I was looking forward to it! We got there early and had our choice of seating, but the first place we tried to sit (along the perimeter) we were shooed away and told it was "reserved". Such BS and THERE WERE NO RESERVED SIGNS! The wine tasting station for the event was really impressive, It was billed as a "tasting" but they were pouring full glasses- Happy HalloWine indeed! We enjoyed the music played by 107.9 FM and the videos. They should've decorated the lounge, it was Halloween, for crying out loud! The dance floor was open and I hope more events like this are scheduled so I can get out there and boogie next time!

We came on a Friday night but we overlooked the timing of when the place turns into Rouge Noir, but the staff kindly let us finish our meal and drinks. Almost immediately after my husband settled our tab, the place transformed into a jumpin spot with a DJ and packed dancefloor. We decided to enjoy the music and then a drink out on the back patio. It was nice that we could do this without paying for bottle service or whatever crazy inflated fees places around town charge. As as local who cannot stand the strip, this place satisfied our itch to get out and dance, enjoy a nice meal, and sip some nice cocktails while experiencing top notch service. We made a reservation for 9p. We've done this for drinks many times in the past with no issues. I'm aware that the lounge turns into a nightclub later in the evening, so we expected to leave the table at that point. There's no mention of table minimums or bottle service on the website or on the booking link through Open Table. When we arrived for our 9p reservation, the hostess said that tables now were only for bottle service for the nightclub (which hadn't started), and there would be a $400 minimum spend on a table although we had a reservation. She acknowledged that the website didn't say anything about this when booking, (even acknowledged that it's been an issue with other customers) and said we could just sit at the bar. Well, no- the reason we reserved a table, was because we wanted a table to have cocktails. She insisted that we'd have to meet the $400 minimum to have a table at this point. We left, but obviously weren't happy. How hard would it be to put "reservations for a table after x time have a minimum $400 spend" so customers are aware? Definitely a bad taste for Rouge Room. Hopefully they'll update their website soon.

I would absolutely order my basil and blackberry margarita again. It was very well balanced and I want to guess they shake the margaritas each order instead of using a premade mix, but if it is premade, they had me fooled! A resounding YES was the reply when we asked if it was still happy hour (at 536pm). Happy Hour (Daily) is 3 PM - 6 PM with $7 fancy margaritas and snacks including ceviche, guac, queso, empanadas and chicken or carnitas street tacos. We were hungry and thirsty. She asked if we wanted to start with (thick warm) chips and salsa. YES, PLEASE! Wished the chips were saltier, but too lazy to ask for salt (which just causes water retention anyway). Salsa thin and almost smooth, with clear pieces of roasted red jalapeno pepper yes chipotle baby! Busy solo, our bartender eventually came around for our drink orders, and we both chose fancy margaritas. My Black (Berry) and Basil may have been the perfect cocktail ever. Sugar rimmer made sticky hands, but OMG I loved this sweet boozy concoction. Hubs ordered a Spicy Piña with pineapple and jalapeno slices. When he was about half done the bartender came around with extra and filled his glass again. Leftovers from the shaker, OH Yeah! While munching on the chips and salsa we decided on the chicken street tacos and the shrimp ceviche. The ceviche came in a small bowl with a huge pile of more chips. We probably could have eaten two orders of the shrimp part though! Rough chopped shrimp, peppers, onions tomatoes and a light broth were perfect on this hot day. The tacos were small on very soft fresh corn tortillas with a good portion of shredded chicken tinga. I was able to add the avocado that my husband removed from his ceviche and round out these tacos, which were only topped with cheese and sauce. Maybe some cabbage would be good here? These were just ok but I was hungry. Alas, the potent concoctions were enough that I only required one. I really wanted to get the spicy mango margarita too. Which will necessitate another visit to La Neta for happy hour again on our way back through town in a month!

Our server asked what kind of rice we wanted with our curry, we said white, and then the dishes arrived with no rice. When we asked, we were told rice doesn't come with the curry - and a small bowl runs $4. I've never been to a Thai restaurant that serves curry without rice.
