We have been frequent visitors to Rockwoods over the years. Until yesterday, we were very satisfied with them. However, yesterday (Jan 6, 2019) we made reservations for the "train" room for brunch (large party). When we arrived, the manager told us we didn't have reservations and someone else had reservations for that room. We explained to him that we were told over the phone that the room was available and we would be able to be seated there. He essentially called us liars and threatened us with not being able to have brunch there. I am appalled at the actions of this manager. He was an arrogant, egotistical person. Very unapologetic...one of those people that just can't admit they are wrong. Maynards in Rogers has started up their excellent Sunday brunch again. That's where we will be going in the future. read more

Stopped in for a family brunch today. There were close to 20 of us. Nice buffet, all the basics...plus shrimp and salmon. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't any scones or croissants. They do have a chocolate fountain, I love chocolate, but they didn't have much to dip in it other than marshmallows, so... price was 18 a person, 10 for kids under 11. A mimosa is included, but if you are including a mimosa in price you are charging for a kid over 11, seems kind of high for a price. Overall it was ok, not sure if I would go back. read more

I only eat here for the Sunday Brunch Buffet. The selection is quite good, but considering the price, could be a little more varied. If you come early, the food is always fresh plentiful. Once the local churches start letting out, it becomes a bit frenzied and you will find long waits for favorite items. Can't beat the taste, however. While not the best buffet that I've ever been to, I can say that Rockwoods is consistently above average. The service, on the other hand, is terrific. Even in a buffet setting, the servers go out of their way to make sure that everything is going okay for your table. Since I go with my children, the ability to have frequent refills on drinks is essential. During football season, the bar, which is directly adjacent to the buffet area, gets a bit more rowdy and loud than most buffet areas. Keep that in mind when you're planning a meal here. read more

I'm only rating as a 1 because of how they didn't resolve an issue we had. We ordered some food to go, and, when I got it home, the "medium rare" ribeye wasn't even blue; it was bloody. The manager made me text a photo and told me I could cook it longer. When they did do something for me, it was a gift card for less than half the price of the inedible steak. Rockwoods used to be a good restaurant (once the latest owner took over). The quality didn't last. read more

We hosted a group event at Rockwoods. The facility and staff were fantastic. They were friendly and helpful. The service was 5 stars plus and I would recommend them for any group event or wedding. I know most are disappointed about the menu change but aside from missing some of the old stuff, I think this menu change is way better. I opted for a lobster roll and was surprised at how good it was. The only place I know around here that offers one. We always get great service when we come here and its a nice change from the usual bars we might attend. read more

Fun patio with firepits and bands on Sat. Nights. Great prices on food during happy hours, 3-6 makes for inexpensive dinner for a group or two sharing, or the late night happy hour is a good night starter (the margarita pizza is tasty). Don't have much to complain about in the way of food. But hostess and management is trash. Called in to make a reservation. Specifically in the train room because we had several kids in our party. The hostess who answered the phone said she wasn't sure if they had room in the train room and would have to check. She puts me on hold for a couple minutes comes back and says that they can give us the reservation IN the train room for 11 people. Great! We arrive 5 minutes early to our time and are told they are putting us in the regular room and that they don't have room in the train room. WHAT? The "manager" Tells me that they already have other reservations that were made weeks ago. Then in the same breath says they don't do reservations in the train room? They restaurant is maybe at 25% capacity so he expects me to believe that the hostess had to put me on hold to see if their empty restaurant could fit us? Really. Then he says "I don't even have to seat you" are you f&@$& kidding me? Rude rude rude. He was calling me a liar and then threatened to not seat our entire party. Just a rude manager with poor customer service. read more

We had many outings for special brunches (Mother's Day & Sports Banquets) dinner dates here. Service is hit or miss, depending on server. Food is always average at best, over rated and over priced. Bar area is the star of this place, usually loud and friendly people. Beer selection is decent. Patio area is nice during the summer. Usually this place is very clean. See thru bathroom windows (you can only see out, not in) are different. read more

While the look and feel were great, the food was not worth the visit/drive. I am happy we didn't go out of our way to stop here. We ordered the calamari app to be out first and it came out AFTER our entrees had been delivered and partially eaten - and they tasted bland on top of it. I should add that they were NOT in a rush at this time which could've caused this lapse as we arrived when they opened on a Saturday so no brunch rush or crazy dinner chaos. It was dead quiet and mostly vacant. With the prices we paid for our pasta and burgers, the quality was just meh. I felt like it was Applebee's or Chili's quality and the flavor of a Perkin's. Oh my gosh the best place ever and the ranch is delicious I recommend the fries...so good! the steak salad was delicious.. just everything there is just so good. I really want to love Rockwoods which is why I have gone several times, but each and every time been so sorely disappointed. The only nice thing I can say for the restaurant is the ambiance. It's has a great atmosphere, whether for family or romantic dining. But the goodness stops there. The prices are absurd for the area and for the quality of food - it isn't worth it. The food has always been lacking and bland. I have yet to find anything here that I actually really like and no one should have to say that about a restaurant. Service is usually OK - not amazing but not awful. My husband as well has been very disappointed the few times he's been. I don't think we'll ever be going again. read more

Sunday brunch not worth the hassle. Out of crab cakes at buffet at 12:30. We could have starved waiting for food to come out to replace the empty serving trays. Prime Rib was good, but everything else was forgetable. Overpriced and not worth all the waiting for food. Crabcakes never came out. Ribs were not worth the wait. Rockwoods is our "go-to" restaurant for those more 'special' family dinners/outings. Located in the Elk RIver/Otsego area, it definitely has its' advantage with minimal surrounding competition. It has a banquet/event center attached to it, ("Blackwoods" I think is the name?) which we actually considered for our wedding reception at one point--the food is prepared by Rockwoods. The food is pretty good here, (side note: not many options for vegetarians/vegans unless you're fine with ordering solely side items.) Also, would love more options for us out there who are more health-conscious. Beautiful atmosphere; high ceilings, multi-level seating--you really feel like you're having an intimate dinner and not sharing a cramped space with the other customers. Customer service was alright. To be honest, I was expecting more. I know it's not any high-end, fancy shmancy place, but come on...it's not just a bar and grill atmosphere either. I will be returning. If there was one request I could put in prior to my return, I would ask for a wider variety of healthy entrees on the menu, as well as a greater WINE selection ;) Thanks and see you soon! read more

Fun, lively spot. The St. Louis pork ribs (they are PORK, not BEEF, as our sweet but confused server told us) are quite delicious. Their BBQ sauce is AWESOME! My sister had a fish that she loved, and I enjoyed my ribs quite a bit. The server was wonderful... really fantastic. The front bar area had a live band a TON of people having a good o'l time... Everything was okay- I was happy to turn my steak into an Oscar, and even more pleased that they left the crab meat out when I asked. (Yes, I know, I have odd tastes...) :) Our waitress put garlic olive oil on our bread plates, which I thought was a bit odd, would have preferred a separate plate for my olive oil and kept my bread plate for, well, my bread... But the food was good, and we stayed after dinner and hung out at the bar, which had a very bustling crowd full of all different kinds of people. Much like the previous reviewer, I too was really looking forward to trying this place as a lot of our friends recommended it. The service wasn't bad and the atmosphere is decent but the food was mediocre at best. Perhaps steak and pasta just aren't their specialties. Over all though, we've had better for the price at chain restaurants such as outback or TGIF. read more

Very disappointed with Rockwoods in Otsego Mn. We had a party booked and we had issue's with them every step of the way from when they were available for us, to pricing on the menu. We attempted to speak to GM about the pricing that was different from what we were sent vs what we were charged and it fell on deaf ears, we were told that if we didn't like it we could cancel and they would just fill the 27 seats with other guest, "WOW" So we took them up on the offer and canceled and had a wonderful party at a different Restaurant to the tune of $1200.00 Thank you Rockwoods!!! you have 27 people who will certainly not patronize your location and we love to talk to other people in our community in Elk River and surrounding area.. read more

Four of us went there on a Saturday evening (7:00) We were seated right away and the waitstaff promptly gave us menus and took our drink order. My wife had the gluten free lobster mac&cheese and she really enjoyed it. I ordered the surly fish and chips. The fish was cooked wonderfully however I think I got leftover fries with it. Some seemed twice cooked and others were soggy. Probably not standard practice for the restaurant...(hopefully) The other couple with us enjoyed their filet and shrimp and scallop pomodoro. Our drinks were mixed well and our waitress was busy yet attentive to us. We will definitely be back!- see if the fries are better.. read more

Ate here Saturday evening. Atmosphere is great, front staff was very friendly and our server was on point! The food....I had the Top Sirloin and to be honest, it was the most flavorless steak I've ever had. I had to eat a large portion of garlic mashed potatoes (which were awesome) just to give my mouth flavor. There was another steak at the table and they said the same thing. I had a sample if the Chicken Champaign and man was that tasty. Overall it was a great experience and if I'm in the neighborhood I may go back but I won't be getting steak.....or recommending it. read more

Rockwoods is one of my favorite establishments to visit! Its got everything you can ask for- great happy hour specials, great for adults, kids, parties, weddings....whatever you're looking for! I take my parents out there for the brunch because they have everything from eggs benedict, prime rib, walleye and delicious ribs, to a full desert table and an omelette station. I also like going there with groups of friends because of the waitstaff and bartenders, always a fun place to have a good time! read more

In my opinion this is the best restaurant in the maple grove/elk river/otsego area. The food and drinks are really good and the food is reasonably priced, ranging from $8 to $20. The atmosphere is great and its easy to converse with your table party...and the chairs and tables aren't packed side-by-side like a delta flight to Orlando (lots of restaurants do this and it bugs the CRAP out of me!). You know what also bugs the crap out of me? Every restaurant in the elk river/otsego/maple grove area is a chain restaurant. If anyone opens up another "Red Lobster" type restaurant around here I think I'm gonna puke. Here's my review of the following at Rockwoods Grill: Atmosphere: 5 stars. This is where this restaurant really shines in my opinion. Tables are great and the patio is fantastic in the summertime. They have a toy train that makes its way into the family dining area and reception lobby. If you don't have kids, they'll seat you in a more private and intimate dining area. I really feel like they go the extra mile so that everyone present enjoys their evening. Food: I've enjoyed everything I've ever had here and highly recommend the Walleye. Drinks: Good draft beers and old fashions. That's all I drink so I can't speak for anything else. Bar Area: I sit in the restaurant when I come in, not at the bar, but the bar area looks great if your into that scene. They have happy hour. Lots of TVs for sporting events. HIghly recommend this restaurant. read more
