I've been to Rockwoods at least a dozen times, and a dozen more when it was Blackwoods. The pasta selection has been very consistent and always a good choice. Steaks have been hit and miss. The fish is excellent. Tonight I tried the fish tacos for the first time and have found my new favorite, Excellent fish tacos!! Oh yeah, the brunch is amazing. My son who is 5 loves the trains and has named it "train on the wall" restaurant. Prices are fair the food has been decent and the wait staff has gotten much better. What can I not say about a place that has the best happy hour prices and BARGO! You can alwasy tell a place is popular when on a Saturday afternoon at 2:00 its packed with BINGO player. The food is super good and tasty..I've never been unhappy. read more

My wife and I have eaten in some of the finest restaurants all over USA. We moved to Otsego, MN about three years ago. We found Rockwoods Grill about two and a half years ago and we just love it. We have eaten there twenty times or more and have enjoyed 99.99 % of our meals. The Salmon Oscar is fabulous, the Walleye is great, the Ribeye Steak was some of the best I have ever had, and the Pasta dishes have been very tasty to say the least. The is a GREAT Place with the atmosphere being a little up scale for the area, which is nice. We have taken many friends and clients here and we have never had a bad meal or bad service. My husband and I ate dinner here on a Saturday night and were very pleased with our experience. The ambiance is great. We were in a booth and it felt like we had enough privacy to have a conversation between ourselves without eavesdroppers. The hostesses and hosts seating people were respectful, considerate and friendly. Our female server was very nice and friendly. My hubby had walleye and loved it. I had a chicken artichoke sandwich and it was good but not great. I will probably order something different next time. Another plus was the band outside. We moved to the outside after our dinner and ordered drinks. Again, great sevice by the female server here as well and band was very entertaining. I like the bruschetta appetizers, we haven't tried any of the others. Always a decent Caesar salad. Bourbon Street Pasta and Pasta Luca Brasi are both favorites. I've been here a couple times and tried something different each time with hopes it would change my mind. I got the Mahi Mahi tacos tonight, the fish was kind of tough, dry, and chewy like it was over cooked. It came with a southwestern rice which was also dry. It tasted as if it were cooked a day before, refrigerated, and then reheated in the microwave. It didn't have any flavor either. Rockwoods used to be a treat, and for the most part the food is still good, though the service recently has left much to be desired. For an establishment of such magnitude and services offered, there seemed to be a lack of experienced and competent staff who understand that there are many options for consumers in dining out, so common courtesy and genuine gratitude for our business, is a minimum industry standard. Yet my wife and I were received not by a warm welcome, but by a hostess who seemed burdened by the only two customers standing in the lobby. She started with a curt, "How many" followed by a declarative, "Is a table ok". Despite being treated coldly, we shrugged it off as an off moment for the hostess and were seated immediately but then waited several minutes to be acknowledged for drink orders, though our table was passed by multiple waitresses. For the most part our waitress got everything technically right except she seemed nervous or preoccupied, and we were not offered refills for the water and lemonade we consumed until after our meals were finished and an attempted dessert sale was made and another table was set up to accommodate a group of eight. It would have only taken a moment to keep us comfortable while passing our table multiple times to set up the other one. At least our food was prepared properly, my wife dining on the roast beef sandwhich and I having had a New York Strip steak. We are not likely to return, as there are several establishments with similar fare just minutes from Rockwoods. My suggestion is to put your best staff on a Friday evening, and if we had been received by your best staff, then your restaurant manager needs to be terminated and your staff needs to be trained in providing an excellent dining experience. read more

We just moved here from the Phoenix Arizona valley and this was our first dine out venture here in Otsego. Needless to say, it was not a good pick on our part. We were sat in a dining room that could be very nice? Could have gotten rid of the industrial carpet and not so clean odor, but I was trying not to be a snob and look past that. We started out with onion rings....tough to mess up. Instantly I could tell the fryer grease was old that was used to cook our rings. My wife orfered the fish tacos because they were the only things other yelpers said was decent. I ordered the brick oven pizza. My wifes tacos came out 45 minutes later along with my pizza. (Only 3 other tables were occupied in the dining room.)The fish was room temperature and the corn tortillas were right out of the refrigerator. Not so good. We very politely and quietly told our waitress the tacos were not satisfactory and she said they would be removed from out billl. We were asked if they could make another order for us and we politely declined. (I am not a fan of possibly pissing off unprofessional kitchen staff and getting a surprise in my meal.) At this point, we got the bill and I gave my Visa immediately as we just rather leave than continue to be disappointed. The server ran my card and I noticed the fish tacos were never even taken off of the bill! Rather than make anymore to do, I am writing this hoping the General Manager or owner realizes what a gold mine they could be sitting on with location and curb appeal of their restaurant. I did not go in with huge expectations of fine dining at all, but wow, this totally misses the mark. My guess is they are losing money and cutting corners straining day or two old vegetable oil for fryers and hiring unexpirienced staff in the kitchen. I should have read these reviews before going in. The exterior had me fooled thinking of what the overhead is on that building they must be putting out decent grub. Totally fooled me! I wont be returning needless to say, unless they shut down, professionally clean and revamp a whole new menu as I am home with gut rot from very greasy oily rings. To the owner, do yourself the favor and hire a restaurant consultant, redo your menu with fresh items you can put out the back of the house quickly. You have great potential in that rather large steakhouse appeal dining room (minus the commercial grade carpet) to make an absolute killing! I hope this helps get the word to the owners as I believe there are not a ton of options out here. :( I will say the pizza was decent, it was warm and did have fresh ingredients, was not worth the 45 minute wait. We'll I was forced back to Rockwood's over the holidays for a holiday party. Many in the group ordered steak and it was kind of tough and a little over priced. The staff was actually friendly this time but someone pointed out the manager of the restaurant at the bar drinking. I wasn't sure if he was working or not but did notice he had a couple of drinks and I thought it was a bit unprofessional either way. Elk River has limited choices when it comes to restaurants but I would avoid this one if I were you. read more

The waitresses were very nice and were able to seat us quickly, however when we sat down our water glasses were dirty. Looking around, we discovered they all were. When they gave us cups for the sodas we ordered, they were cleaner, but it took awhile for anyone to even come by and check on us. We ended up getting the buffet, because there was lots of options that looked delicious to eat, but after getting the food it was all one of two things; cold or super garlicky. I got Yelp just to rate this place one star. Maybe the food is better if you order it off the menu, but I definitely would not recommend this place if you're coming for a buffet or a brunch. We took my son and his family out for his birthday. The whole experience was excellent. The Calamari Fries were the best we have ever had (Not over-cooked like at most places). My wife and I shared a house salad, which was good, but the house dressing was too peppery for my wife. My wife and I each had steaks, which were very good. The scalloped potatoes and corn side dishes were also very good. The two grandchildren were very happy with their meals--the boy had meatballs and spaghetti, which he cleaned out. Our granddaughter had the chicken strips, but she was too full from cleaning out most of an order of buffalo chicken wings. My son had a special lamb dish from the kitchen, and our daughter-in-law had the shrimp & scallop scampi pomodoro. They were both satisfied. Great venue but terrible service at the bar that was near the event center. One waiter and one waitress that were working on October 22nd proceeded to cut a member of the wedding party off because she "had 5 long islands and was swaying". I saw at least 3 people walking torwards the restroom puking yet they continued to get served. The worst part was that one of the two people working the bar proceeded to call Another bar and tell them not to serve this couple. There was absolutely zero reason for this action and will never recommend this place to anyone because of this experience. Like I said, great food and great environment but because of the workers I will never recommend or will I be a repeat costumer. We went to Rockwoods tonight after having good experiences before, after this eveing, we may not be back. We went with my sister and bro in law, and we both had coupons that said you could use up to 3 per table-well our waitress said they just started not honoring more than 1 per table. She claimed she'd ask the manager, but we had to order first---what??? Don't sign up to be part of discount cards, if you won't honor them. She did get them to honor it this time--but she was not very happy to go and ask. We waited forever for a table, to get waited on, for our food, to clear the plates, for the bill, etc. The restaurant was partially empty, but yet there was a line out front to wait. They obviously need more staff. The food was pretty good (it's been better in the past), but it took forever to get it--2 plus hours for dinner is crazy! I don't think we'll be back soon. read more

First off this is my opinion and I may be wrong in another's eyes but here it goes. My wife and I have seen the changes in this restaurant as it changed hands and staff. Not once we're we not satisfied with the service. I've seen them extremely busy and I've seen them in the slow mode. Not a problem. We were always treated as a customer in the most pleasurable setting. We were not looking for the downtown setting of quite, wineglass tones and blenders in the back ground. The ambiance has been quite entertaining. Train runs automatically above you, authentic if you know your history of the rail and Elk River. Then look closer, how many collectible animated characters do you see. Plenty to keep the grandkids entertained and I might add in their seats. The food, never had a bad meal, cooked to my request (I'm no chief critique monster) and my wife feels that her service was second to none. Never hear an argument from anyone. Wow, it's nice! We visit here bi-weekly and monthly never a bad experience. The prices of the food and beverages are comparable to their constituents of the same caliber. After paying for the meal; I still enjoyed the meal. In closing will I be back, the answer is yes! I asked for a gluten-free menu, and the waitress thought that it was a crazy request. The restaurant tries to be upscale, but is nothing more than a glorified grease-pit lacking in even backwoods charm. The food is horrible, and the service is worse. The bands that play at this establishment are the only redeemable feature. Luckily, there are many new restaurants and bars nearby that have more innovative choices on their menu, so the people of Otsego will not have to suffer with just one restaurant any longer. read more

Went for lunch there today. We had to send back there wild rice soup because it was so salty. I had the beef dip sandwich absolutely no flavor what so ever. The best thing I had was the kettle chips on my plate. My sister in law had the southwestern wrap special and said the same thing no flavor at all. Even my glass of house Chardonnay was horrible I'm pretty sure it was Sauvignon blanc. This is my second trip to rock woods will probably not return. Sunday Brunch?! Yes please! Really fresh and delicious food. So many choices. And for the price? Unbeatable.

First of All, let me just say that the bar tender Tony is a crack up. He knows so much about the menu and his jokes are seriously spot on. It's like being in the room with Jerry Seinfeld haha.. He put together this little special appe"teaser" for me when I was there and it had all the frills and fancies of a real fine dining experience! The walleye is delectable, decedent and just dog gone delightful! I love their fruit infused vodka and their Mojitos are so amazing! The other bar tender Brett actually slaps the mint to get the true aroma to open up! It's a wild time. When your ready to party you can go outside and their is a patio full of Bon fires, music and fun! The night I was there there was a live band called Paradigm shifter and boy were they good!!! The only thing that sullied my experience was when I was accosted by this drunk man outside. He had a big beard, glasses and insisted we watch homemade interracial porno movies on his smart phone. He later puked in the bushes near the door way. Drunk guy aside, all and all I say it was a great experience... Wow.. Just wow! read more
