That said, if you are a beginning kayaker and just want to get some experience, this is a great place to go. We were in town from Arizona and the water was pretty choppy (dude said winds were ~10 mph... I think they were closer to 15 mph...) I am not in love with sit on top kayaks and I don't particularly love chop. Moving water? Fine. Rocking back and forth? Ehhhh. We only paddled for about 30-40 minutes because it was so windy. We paddled against the wind to get our bearings, floated/paddled to the other end with the wind, and then worked our arms off paddling back. My husband doesn't really enjoy that type of work out (ha!) so he got out and pulled his 'yak for a bit. I was more determined and paddled the whole way. It's a very chill area (or was in May) but if you wanted to bring a group of folks to paddle and sunbathe and eat some snacks on the shore (which apparently happens in the summer) you'll have a blast. We prefer barren, inclimate weather (seriously) so it was a perfect day for us.

We were told by staff that we "don't need to wear life jackets" because the water is so calm and easy. It was anything but. After the current picked up speed, I was met with a drop between large rocks. Unable to slow down or drift to the side and stop because of the current speed, I was whisked down the drop and my tube went flying out from underneath me. Attempting to hold onto my tube, I dislocated my shoulder and I am very thankful that was the worst of it. This place needs to encourage wearing life vests rather than encouraging folks NOT to. I am a decent swimmer and I got very lucky that I didn't hit my head on the rocks. Please please be especially aware of this warning before bringing your kids to this establishment. This "lazy river" was anything but. I should also add: as a very nice park ranger was driving me and my friends back to our car, one of the 2 staff members showed up and seeing me in a makeshift sling, clearly in severe pain, told me "just ice it and in a couple days it'll be fine." I spent the entire rest of the day at the hospital. Beware of this establishment.

I had such a relaxing afternoon at Evergreen Lake. It's only about 30 minutes from downtown Denver,…read moremaking it an easy getaway without spending hours in the car. The main parking lot was full when we arrived, but the overflow parking was surprisingly easy. There was someone at the entrance directing cars, handing out the shuttle address, and answering questions. The free shuttle arrived within minutes, had air conditioning, and dropped us off right at the lake. The atmosphere is what makes this place special. It's clean, family-friendly, and surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. You can bring your own kayak, paddleboard, canoe, or other non-motorized watercraft, or rent one there. Life jackets are required and rentals have time limits, but everything was well organized. The water was a little browner than I expected, with some natural tree limbs and debris floating around, and swimming isn't allowed. That said, it didn't take away from the experience. Most people were fishing, paddling around with friends, or simply floating and soaking in the views. If you're looking for a peaceful way to spend an afternoon outdoors, this is a great spot. I had a really good time and will definitely be back.

We did the six-line tour and had a great time. The staff of four was especially attentive to safety and helped us all get through everything from the slow short trainer line through the fast long line that starts from a platform atop a short stairway and runs over a quarter mile across the valley to another platform on a hillside. It was quite exhilerating! I've got another review out there for a ZipLine place that I tried out on Hawaii's big island. Having done experienced that course (including a half-mile zip over a beautiful waterfall) in Honolulu, the Denver course didn't seem quite as scary. That is both because I knew what to expect and also because the harnesses and pulley equipment seem to have improved drastically in the four years since I did my earlier Zip trip. I would also note that the scenery around the Denver Adventures course was actually prettier to look at, even while screaming across a few dozen yards of steel cable. There were a couple kids in our group who were around 10 years old and they had apparently done Zip trips in Costa Rica, Texas, and a few other places. They still seemed thrilled by the Denver course and had a great time. A bit of warning: I had no trouble with the preliminary and between-Zip hiking in Hawaii and that's because the altitude was 200ft above sea level. In contrast, the Denver hiking had me a bit winded and I learned (just before the final Zip) that the altitude was 8,600 feet. The kids and teenagers didn't seem to notice, but we adults clearly felt the altitude -- and the water stations along the route were quite welcome! To their credit, though, the staff appeared to be accustomed to working with all kinds of tourists and didn't make a deal of it at all.

It was the most affordable fly fishing I came across by far. $225 (not including a well deserved tip) for 2 people that includes 4 hours+ of fishin' and travel time which was plenty! So all in all a little over $300 and was worth every minute. Our guide reached out to us the week of to introduce himself, say hi, and give us a heads up of what to expect. He emailed us a map, directions, what to wear, and tentative itinerary. The weather was chilly in the morning but so nice. Met him in Golden and then he drove us to a couple different creeks through the scenic mountains. Couldn't have been a better time of year to go with the perfect weather and colorful fall trees. Matt was an awesome human! Super friendly, upbeat, knowledgeable and gave great direction. He was easy to talk to and we just can't say enough about how much we enjoyed having him as a guide and hearing about his experiences. We each caught a trout towards the end of the day which was super duper rad! I wasn't even going into it expecting to catch anything. I was just content being in the beautiful creeks and mountains. Matt brought us delicious boar head wraps for lunch with choice of chips, apples, waters and "healthy" sodas that were refreshing. Throughout the day he took pictures of us in action and sent them to us a couple days later. He keeps up with changing the flies for you and does it quick. My small waders fit perfectly and I never got wet (which I was a little worried about). Saw a deer and ram along the drive which was super exciting to see! The 69 year old (experienced spin cast fisher - not fly fisher) came home thrilled with what Reid did and the 12 year old came home a convert to fly fishing. He made sure all three of them were always taken care of. Reid was amazing! If you can I would request him. At one point he pulled a rock out of the river and told us what was crawling on it and what was hatching. Simply amazing. AND he knew how to get all three catching fish. It was a great birthday present for Dad (and unplanned father's day gift). Thanks for an excellent day on the river!! Great memories. Great pics. Hard to imagine how it could be better.
