Very rude and unprofessional employees. The Starter is unwelcoming and gets off on yelling about pace of play. My group of 2 was yelled at for not keeping pace of play, while waiting on groups of 4 in front of us on every hole. Don't book so many tee times on a holiday weekend, and don't have carts telling you when it's clear to hit, if you are going to complain about pace of play. Seems like many similar reviews, so not surprising. Will not be playing here again any time soon. read more

Great golf course and amazing views . The customers service is absolutely horrible . There is an older man in the club house who is a complete asshole ,and always has something smart or rude to say . One of the starters is also extremely rude . The older lady and younger guys in the clubhouse are very polite anytime I've been . If anyone in management is reading this ,you guys really need to handle them . I'm sure you know exactly who they are, and I've heard the same complaints from random strangers I've been paired with over the last year . This was my first time going here and I'm 50/50 on going back. For the price, the views are pretty amazing but the difficulty of the course wasn't that hard. Most the fairways are pretty straight. The Marshall at the 1st hole was pretty rude and rushing for our group to get on even though we still had a couple of minutes. I told him that the other two were heading over in their cart but he didn't care. There were some bottlenecks and we waited to tee off at every hole starting at the 3rd. Unfortunately we didn't get a full 18 in due to it being dark. There's other courses to play for cheaper and that will probably have a better pace. I might change my review after another visit but for now I'll stick with 3 stars. read more

I play here nearly every time I visit my aunt and uncle, who live 25 minutes away from the course. I love playing there and love that the layout has holes that run along Back River and Chesapeake Bay. I've always had great rounds at Rocky Point and it's a great golf course that keeps me coming back. The only things that make me give it 4 stars instead of 5 are that a couple times I've played there in the summer and the course was dry with some burnt out patches in the fairway. The other reason is that the rangers can be impatient or strict. I remember one time we were getting rushed when we were ahead of the suggested time per hole and the group behind us was two holes behind. Other than that, I still love the course! read more

We played Rocky Point on July 4th, because of previous nights storm it was cart path only of course. Question why don't courses offer a small discount when they take away part of the pleasure of a round riding directly to your ball and being able to use the carts GPS system? But what really made me annoyed, when we went from hole 9 to 10 the snack shop was closed. It was 4:10. It's a holiday golf day, why would they be closed that early??? There is NO water available on the course, there was a cart girl on the front, never ever saw her on the back. It's like they just don't care about the golfers experience. And for the amount they charge for a round you think they would. Otherwise decent course not worth what they charge...$45 would be more the right price in my opinion. read more

The course itself is beautiful, although the greens could be maintained a little better. Because of the price point, you may be surprised to find how busy the course is. Doubles should expect to get paired, even at odd times. And unless you have an early start time, you may not be able to finish 18. In early September we had a 3:20 start and only got to play about 14 holes due to the traffic in front of us (Sunset was about 7:15). Enjoyed the views! read more

Great location and course itself was well maintained. For the price you can do better. All Porto let bathrooms which is not great for lady golfers. Clubhouse bathroom was closed. Played a decently paced front nine and on the back a foursome jumped in front and then somehow got joined by at least one more who clearly hadn't played much and learned much about manners. Not a ranger in site. If you are going to jam golfers together in order to maximize your revenues, someone needs to be paying attention. Plenty of other equally good choices read more

I am an American-Pakistani man. I've been to this golf course a few times, and every time I come here, I always experience racism and discrimination. From the employees, to the players, to the spectators. Today was the final straw. I came to my sister's high school golf game and once the game was over, I drove the cart over to the shed. I said "leave it here sir?" The guy looks up and says "all the way in." I was confused because I was only a few feet away from the sign so I asked again "pull the cart all the way in?" He replies and says "all the way in." It didn't make sense to me but I pull the cart into the shed. He then starts to yell at me on top of his lungs. "I SAID PULL UP ALL THE WAY! I DIDN'T SAY IN THE SHED! WHY WOULD WE TELL A CUSTOMER TO PULL IN!" I pull out the car and he gets close to my face to try and scare me. "WHY WOULD WE TELL A CUSTOMER TO PARK A CAR IN THE SHED?". I had to raise my voice and tell him to calm down. He wouldn't budge until I raised my voice louder. Lets say a customer does make a harmless mistake, is that a way to talk to someone? So you wouldn't tell a customer to pull the car into the shed for convivence, but you will yell in their faces? Fuck you dude. He is a old white guy with a mustache and works with the carts. There is a difference between "Pull the cart to the sign" and "Pull the cart all the way in". And mind you, this was my first time on the cart. I'm 19 and this was the first time I got to ride a cart. There is no way he would yell like that at another kid. The white lady in the shop also has an attitude. She rolled her eyes when I asked if I could use the restroom before closing. Some spectators at the game would stare at me, not say hi, or pretend that I didn't exist. The other players would group up and talk to each other, but leave out my sister and talk to her in a limit. I enjoy playing and watching golf, but I have these experiences too often and it's a major turn-off for me. And being an ethnic man, it can get scary getting in situations like that. You are in the middle of nowhere with no service, and everyone there doesn't want you there. I don't ever feel safe. If I ever feel like hitting a few balls for fun again, I'll go to Diamond Ridge or go to a local top golf lol. My sister has one more game here, but after that, I'm never putting my foot on this golf-course again. This is unfortunate because I think that this is one of the most beautiful courses in the Baltimore area. I have so many memories while playing in high school, but these interactions kill me every time. I left this review on google and I've sent out an email to the HR department and rocky point's email. I've played Rocky Point a few times, and I can never remember why I come back. Besides the few holes (#10-11, 15) that are actually running along the Back Neck River, the course is boring and repetitive. It always seems to be kept in decent shape, despite the level of heat in the Baltimore area during the summer, which is good because you will be there for awhile. Rocky Point is a favorite amongst locals, and it doesn't hurt that a good percentage of the players are seniors or walkers, as it is a very walkable course. This all adds up to long rounds of golf, especially on the weekends when all of the hackers are playing. However, I can deal with slow play or waiting on the tee for the previous group to tee off. What I can't stand about this course is that it is simply boring. A previous reviewer said, "for the most part the holes are simple, hit is hard and straight." Not only are they simple, they all play the same way, you'll have the feeling of deja vu playing some of the holes thinking, "haven't I played this one already?" Holes 8 and 17 play parallel to one another and feel like the same hole. Holes 9 and 18 play parallel to one another too and look/feel the same. There just isn't enough variety to make playing this course fun. Holes 10-13, 15 are most interesting, but those alone aren't enough to make me want to come back. Speaking of playing parallel, pretty much every hole has at least another hole playing along side of it. Meaning you will have people from all over the course playing out of your fairway, or maybe you will spend most of your day yelling "Fore!" as your ball slices into the adjacent fairway. It's a short course, it isn't too difficult and worst of all, it isn't very memorable either. read more

The golf course was fine... The employees were extremely rude. Our tee time was for 1600... we wanted to hit a couple warm up balls, so we were hitting at the range and they call us over the loud speaker at around 1555 to "approach the tee box"... then, the "guard" waiting at the first hole "inspects" our golf carts, accuses us of being "late," and interrogates us about if we have alcohol in our cart... we played the round, pretty slowed up by the people in front of us. And then one of the "guards" comes around on the 16th hole and says "you've really gotta pick up your pace.... look! the people behind you are hitting onto the green!" I then explain to him that the people he are talking about are a part of our foursome. He then states, "oh wow... you're not doing as bad as I thought..." I apologized stating that we have a couple new players... he ends up saying "this needs to be your last hole." absolutely ridiculous. There is no way we will be playing there again. don't waste your money - play anywhere else. read more

It looks like a fairly decent course. I went to the driving range and got a look around. I've never hit off of a mat so that took some getting used to. The course seems windy but that could be due to its location relative to the bay. Cool area for sure! I'm not from MD but the prices seem reasonable and I plan on getting the Advantage Card for this course + 4 others. read more

First time golfing this course. Overall it was good experience. Many of the holes were in good condition and challenging. My only complaint was the cart path only. It did rain the day prior so I can understand the early tee times. By the time we teed off the ground was fine on 90% of the course. Could have at least updated it to 90 degrees. Horrible cource. Bug infested, fairways are cow pastures and mud pits. Rough is higher than US open. Bugs so bad I got bit 60 times . I had no warning from anyone at course about there problems. Our foursome loved playing at Rocky Point over the weekend. The course is maintained very well especially for the number of rounds played there. Every employee we met was very nice. We didn't experience any of the rudeness that others have written about. We loved the back nine. It was very easy to get drawn into the views of the Chesapeake Bay. The pace of play was slow but we weren't there trying to rush home. It was a busy Saturday with almost perfect weather after a week of heavy rains. We expected it to be slow. Getting something "quick" to eat at the turn was time consuming. We probably spent 20 minutes waiting to get a couple hot dogs and sandwiches. They've applied for a liquor license so grabbing a cold beer during your round will be easy in the near future. $56 for 18 with a cart. I'll play here again without thinking twice about it. read more

I play the golf course all of the time, at least weekly . I would take the bad reviews with skepticism. The staff are always polite and provide good service. What a gem of a course to have in Baltimore County. The front 9 is wide open and is enough to get you warmed up for the back which has several interesting holes around the water. While your playing look for eagles and Ospreys as the gallery of observers. The greens are in excellent shape as long as you don't follow some players unversed in repairing their ball marks. The maintenance crew has done a great job getting through the heat of the summer when all golf courses struggle with conditions. This being a public course, it is open to any players of all levels. If you are looking for better experience, you might have to join a private or semi private course and pay for the privilege of being critical. read more

Rocky Point is one of my favorite public golf courses in the greater Baltimore area. It is a good drive to Essex from Balyimore city but its worth it every time. The price is very reasonable, $35 for gren fees plus another ten or so for a cart. For this you get a round of golf on a beautifully kept course with 4 holes along the Chesapeake Bay. The course itself is a good distance, not too long or too short. Some of the holes against the water require caution but for the most part the holes are simple, hit it hard and straight. The pace of play is quick and you shouldn't have trouble finishing your round in 4 hours. read more

The course was in very ruff shape. Teeing off, I was unable to tell the difference between the fairway and rough, making it difficult to see where to aim. The tee boxes were over grown, and the greens were long, slow, and poorly groomed. The bathroom facilities on the course were beyond foul. I got within 15 ft of one, and turned around. It smelled awful. If the course conditions were better, this would be a fun place to play, but sadly, this is not the case. Better courses around: greystone, woodlands, and diamond ridge. read more

The worst golf course I have played. The nice part is that they charged $39.00 to play a course that was under repair and had almost all of the tee markers on the back moved up 40 yards. The tee boxes were unplayable on a lot of holes. The new greens were decent but certainly not great. On several holes the sprinklers were on. This course is a joke. I've played here a few times - pros: it's in good condition and a pretty course for the price. The back 9 is very nice. Front 9 is pretty boring and not challenging. cons: staff. If you're under the age of 35 or so, be prepared to be chastised by some of the older staff. I don't know if they are bitter old men, but I've never been talked to in such a way on a golf course. This course is well taken care of and in excellent condition 95% of the time. Once in a while the fairways could be cut lower and the greens cut and rolled to keep the speed up. Rocky point drives me nuts. The previous reviews are partially right, it is a attractive course, the water views are nice on 10 and 11. It's not especially challenging, and can be considered a little tedious in layout. But the thing that drives me crazy are the greens. Slow slow slow, bumpy bumpy bumpy, I consider myself a pretty good player, and I have no chance of making a putt there. No matter how well you stroke a putt, it will either stop short, or dance off line and miss the hole. I've played the course on and off for years, and it's always the same. I can best describe it as, putting on burba carpet. It's probably best for beginners or novice golfers who probably don't know any better. RACE...GENDER...EXPERIENCE Arrived at the golf course super excited for my very first game of golf. I had been to the driving range several times but never an actual 18 holes. The weather was amazing and I picked my golf "appropriate" attire all by myself...with a little guidance from my experienced golf partner. The grounds were well manicured, the main office & other facilities were easy to find . My personal clubs loaded on cart, still excited, we're informed that a party of one has been added to our party of two ( Oh no, I have to let him know I'm a newbie & if he's looking for a fast paced competitive round he may want to go with the party of two behind us). Introductions, I warn him about how great I am (smirk). Completely okay with my greatness, lol, we head to 1st hole. Hurray! Anxiety disappears, excitement returns. We begin to play, the guys are networking and giving me pointers in between...it's actually challenging fun. I ask if I'm able to take my turn if the group ahead of us are still finishing up at the flag; they laugh, in unison "yes, you're not going to hit it that far". Shortly after blue shirt on the golf cart stops by our carts & talks golf jargon to the fellas. They say okay, he moves on, when we advance to the next hole I notice him sitting on the hill watching us. I'm playing too slow. The guys explain the par and pace of game to me and that after I hit just go get my ball and bring it up near them, I'm loving it, I get to swing less, golfing is exhausting. I'm actually really enjoying this new activity. However, I still notice blue shirt on the golf cart hanging out. I comment, the experienced golfers assure me that "we have time" and to enjoy the game and take my time, they know how to read the game. Party of one comes over to give me a pointer to trust that I'll hit the ball and blue shirt comes racing over talking about lessons etc etc. He assures blue shirt that he only met us today and was paired with us by the office that he's not my instructor. Blue shirt drives off talking about 2nd warning. I am now feeling stressed and no longer able to concentrate nor enjoy the game because I'm being stalked and watched. I can't believe I'm the only person on the entire course that's not experienced, esp when we're right behind the group before us and at times waiting for them to advance. The final straw! I hit the ball terribly near the water, I tell the guys don't worry I'll get it and take it up near them. After assessing the course they assure me we have time and to hit it again. I get a different club, line up, do my practice swings, stand up straight, bend my knees, head down, stick my butt out, eye on the back of the ball & swing...only a little better but I'm stoked. Then here comes blue shirt swooping in even more rude than all the times before saying this is our final warning and he watched me hit the ball 3-4 times. By now I'm livid and he's lying or blind either way I'm glad he's not keeping my score. I correct him & tell him he's way too focused on chastising me. He uses the excuse that he's doing his job. Completely false again because your job is to ensure that the game moves at pace which we had already adjusted on our on. Aside from that if it were that important perhaps the timer on our cart would work. Long and short of it he told us to head back to get a refund which we did, happily and will never return. As I'm packing up my clubs and cart several patrons walked by smiling, speaking and made small talk so I in no way believe that anyone complained about me or my pace of play. I do in fact feel that I was targeted by blue shirt on his golf cart based on his own personal short comings that took himself way too serious for his position because he could. It is my opinion as was reflected in his tone, word choices, and actions, that he attempted to devalue me, the gentlemen that I was playing with, our money, time, and desire to play the game of golf. There were other novice players, I even saw other women playing, and there were other African Americans scattered here and there. My conclusion: it's okay to be one or the other but at Rocky Point Golf Course it is not enjoyable nor fun nor tolerated to play golf if you are a Black Female new to the sport if blue shirt is perched on his cart. I'm still very interested in learning the game so I'm glad that there are other golf courses here in Maryland, many of them cheaper. Yes one bad apple spoils the bag. I will never step foot on Rocky Point Golf Course again and will tell everyone about my experience. I'm extremely resilient and accustomed to adversity as our great U.S. of A has called for me to be in most areas but definitely more noticeably in areas that have been dominated by white males. The rangers are not hospitable at all and can be very rude and not very helpful. Staff is only worried about keeping an eye on the pace of play timers and if you're behind or not. Very confrontational when it comes to staying on pace even when there is nobody behind you. Course is nice but the treatment you get from the rangers is totally uncalled for and not very friendly. The entire group will gang up on you instead of doing something to help. They'll threaten to move to the hole they think you should be on!! If you want to be tailed to every hole and told how you need to speed up then play here. Intermediate and below players are not welcomed! read more

Rocky Point is a nice well kept course. The holes are laid out well and always in good shape. I wouldn't play it on weekends it tends to get crowded with lots of hackers and slow play. The best thing about playing Rocky Point is the drive down the street to Pizza John's afterwards. Damn good pizza. The course is very easy to play, even from the tips. Kept in great shape for the most part but the weekend hackers and rednecks make weekend play miserable unless you are one of the first few groups to tee off at around sunrise. Whenever the weather forecast is calling for 10 mph winds, stay away as that means the winds coming 0ff the bay and Back River will manufacture about 25 mile per hour winds. You won't find a better course for the money in Baltimore county. Always well-maintained except for the cart paths, which need some work. The Saturday starter, Charlie, is an arrogant jackass, but don't let that spoil your day. Pace on weekends tends to be slow, especially after 11:00 am. Adequate practice area. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful, (with a few exceptions such as the aforementioned starter), and strive to keep a good pace of play. One thing I'd like to see is enforcement of "tee it forward." Too many idiots playing the wrong tee on a long course can make for a long round. Overall, still a great value. read more
