Everything was delicious except the rocks beans! They were just pork n beans with ground beef. Should have had a more open campfire taste I think.

Stopped here on a weekend for lunch after reading reviews. Parking is parallel on the street with meters. It was busy when we entered - there were 3 tables inside but all were taken so we ordered takeout. We ordered two brisket sandwiches, Mac and cheese, and cornbread. The sandwiches came with a small container of slaw and a choice of BBQ sauce, and a side of pickles. Let me agree with another reviewer - the Mac and Cheese was the best I've ever had! Buttery, cheesy and not overly saucy with large macaroni noodles, full of flavor - truly scrumptious. And the slaw was delicious too - with celery seed and a dressing that was mild and flavorful and the cabbage was fresh and crisp not overly creamy and limp like so many others. Now I want to try all of their sides! I like that the takeout was packaged in separate containers - even the roll was separate in a baggie so that we built the sandwich before we ate it and it wasn't all soggy in the bag before we reached our destination to eat. Definitely worth checking this place out and we will be returning in the future.

Best bbq in central pa without question. The ribs are some of the best I've ever had regardless of region. Mac and cheese is also the bomb.

Then she said, "you know who does great tuna salad? It's a diner over in Columbia!" But she couldn't remember right there what it was called. I googled diners in Columbia and I read back to her she shouted , "Black Olive"!!!! I'm here with two friends but didn't order tuna as it's breakfast and so I ordered eggs Benedict with turkey sausage instead of the Canadian bacon, and lemon on the side since I love my hollandaise sauce tangy. I get my order but not as I requested. Canadian bacon is in there and turkey sausage on a side plate. The hollandaise sauce looks like melted cheddar and no lemon on the side. Worst of all I cut into the poached eggs and they're too hard. Well I was just too disappointed in their skill level to ask them to redo. Our amazing waitress was trying to talk me into ordering something else if I didn't want a redo. She had a manager come by and I told him what I ordered and how I got it. It was ok I didn't want to trouble anyone. He insisted they'd get it right so I gave in. A few minutes later he presents me with jiggly poached eggs on top of turkey sausage and wedges of lemon. I will say I was impressed the second time around, though the hollandaise sauce needs work! Here's a quick blender recipe Ingredients: 3 egg yolks, 1 tbsp lemon juice, pinch salt, 1/2 cup hot melted butter. No need to make it from powder. You "can" taste the difference! Over all very happy with the cleanliness, service, attention and will be back mid March for that tuna sandwich. Mmm can't wait!

Could not enjoy it with all that bread. Don't order and pay for bread. Next for an entree I ordered their Broiled Seafood Platter - $29.00 for mostly bread. The large crab cake - all bread, no crab. The Stuffed Flounder - Nice large piece, however, sitting on three cups of bread stuffing. The 3 Scallops were broken and not completely broiled. The 3 Small Shimp - the same. The entrees came with 3 sides. I got the baked potato, Cole slaw and the crab bisque. I brought the food home - $41.00 worth, so I could dissect off the descent parts. I was never there before; I probably won't return. If they pair down their menu, they may be able to make peoples food to order. When the complex dishes come to the table as fast as a cup of coffee, you know, it's never a good thing. Footnote: There were flies all over too, that made it next to impossible to eat comfortably in the restaurant, with the flies incessantly landing all over the table.

Walking into Hinkles makes you feel like you are stepping back in time. We visited on a very busy Sunday but arrived at the end of the lunch rush. Our server was friendly and communicative, having to deliver the unfortunate news that a few menu items we were interested in were all out. She did a really good job of helping us figure out what to order instead. The food was solid. I ordered a spinach salad and tater tot's. I was really impressed by the freshness of my salad and the chicken was clearly cooked to order and well seasoned. I wanted something healthy after eating out for multiple days on end, and this dish made me feel so much better. My dad went with the roast beef which he really enjoyed and kept commenting on the tenderness of the beef. My mom and brother went with the crab cakes and the hot dog-which they both finished completely and reportedly enjoyed. For dessert, my parents went with ice cream and lemon meringue pie. I didn't try the ice cream because lactose intolerance -but the bite of the pie I sampled was delicious. There is also an adjacent gift shop next to the restaurant which had tons of different gift options. They also offered us free candy for international women's day, which was a nice touch! Hinkle's is definitely worth a visit, and I'd especially recommend a visit for families- and don't skip on the dessert!
