I'm giving this five stars not because it is perfect, but because I would choose this place over any other restaurant in Rochester for lunch on almost any day and so it deserves my highest recommendation. I'm not sure how I could complain about an intersection between the dankest and most affordable dining option. There is very little pretention. It's a very simple atmosphere that is always packed when they are open. We order an extra cup of sauce right from the get go to go with our bread. It's a tired statement but I can honestly say Rocky's is the best Italian restaurant in Rochester. The food reminds me of the traditional food my grandmother made before the world decided you needed equal parts tomato and sugar. I would love to review their whole menu but that would mean not eating their spaghetti with melted mozzarella cheese on top every week. The best Italian you can get for cheap, what's not to like? It's not just the food that keeps me and my lady coming every Saturday: it's the environment. The restaurant is run like a real family kitchen, not the corporate fake "family restaurant" but real down to earth people. Nearly every week I come and can talk to Rocky and his family and they're always a riot. A few bits of advice: -Don't be put off by the informal front of the house, just grab someone and ask if you can take a seat. -Get a salad with their Italian dressing: to me a salad is gerbil food but holy wow is their dressing amazing. If I came in and they had no pasta I'd stay for the salad. -It is cash only and the nearest ATM is a corner store across the street so come prepared read more

Rocky's is the BEST!!! From the outside, you wouldn't think much of it. It's a casual, family owned and operated, no frills, TRUE Italian (cash only) restaurant. The homemade sauce is GREAT! The homemade ravioli's are delicious!!! I'm not a fan of tripe, but if you like it... Rocky's is the place to get it! The prices are very inexpensive and the portions are great. Rocky's is a good Italian restaurant with good staff and great food. me and my grandfather comes here almost every weekend. Every time since the first time i have been their i order large tripe with a meatball and sausage and me and my grandpa split a tomato salad. I believe this is the best pasta restaurant in upstate new york.The menu is somewhat limited but they make up for this with great revolving daily specials.The food is amazing and extremely inexpensive.The service is also good which is an anomaly these days at an inexpensive restaurant.They also have a very large beverage selection (creme soda anyone?).I dine there whenever I get the chance and have NEVER had a bad meal there.It's no wonder they continue to thrive without advertising.Definitely a destination restaurant! read more

The food is good. A place doesn't stay in business as long at Rocky's without good food. The place is very small and they pack as many people in as they can. The atmosphere is terrible. The place is usually so loud at lunch time that its hard to have a conversation with some one right next to you. I've work right next door for 6 years but only go here once or twice a year because they only accept cash, no debit or credit cards. Its 2013, how can a business survive by only accepting cash? After another perfect meal at Rocky's, I finally felt compelled to leave a review. I won't try and convince you that this is the "best Italian food in Rochester." That's just way too subjective. The reality is that the food is consistently excellent. We've been there about a dozen times in the last year, and the food is the same every time. Always fresh, served hot, huge portions, and *dirt* cheap. The sauce is clearly a family recipe. Sausage from Triano's is amazing. Gnocchi are borderline perfect. Ravioli are outstanding. Fish fry on Friday is light, crisp and generally excellent (my 82 year old Dad says it's the best he's ever had). Salads are generous and fresh. Service is casual and friendly-enough attention to be comfortable but not smothering. Our family of four typically eats well for about $40 with lots of leftovers. Fine dining? Nope. But it's the first place we bring out of town guests. The place screams "Rochester!" and is truly a community treasure. read more

So today is my birthday and every year I like to go to Rockys for their tripe. I called ahead and made a reservation for 2 people for 11:30 am. We arrived on time and walked in to a very crowded place which I am used to which is why I called ahead and made a reservation. Checked in with Stephanie the hostess and she said it will be a few more minutes. 40 minutes later we were still not seated, so I checked back with the hostess and she said just a few more minutes and we would be seated. As we stood at the doorway waiting, I overheard a waitress telling someone that the tripe was gone. We called ahead, waited more than ample time to be seated, and the owners and staff at Rocky's could care less that we were upset about not getting served. I told the hostess we were leaving and would NEVER be back. Her response was, " Sorry honey it is busy here during the holidays". Joe took my reservation over the phone then never wrote it down. I have been a loyal customer of this place for over 30 years and this is the way they treat their loyal customers. Don't worry Rocky's, I won't give you the opportunity to do this to me again. Food Is great at Rocky's I can say. But here is why I'm going to rate it one star. I've gone here a few times and today was my first time back after I stopped going over a year ago.I've noticed everytime I have gone I've been overcharged more than what the menu price is listed. Today I ordered linguini with clam sauce for 6.50 and a shaved steak sandwich for 5.25. When it was time to cash out she told me I owed 15.71. Idk how it totaled up to that amount. I should've asked but I didn't even bother to this time. A year ago I've gone there 3 times and same thing happened twice before. I've asked then and they told me they miscalculated. I understand making the mistake once or twice by a few cents but when it's by a few bucks and more than a couple times that's just alittle strange to me. So everyone please double check your bill if you do get one but I doubt you will. They normally just add a total and tell you. so make sure you know how much your lunch/dinner cost before cashing out. 1 star is for being dishonest and the feeling of being ripped off. If the prices has change please update your menu so we know. Or please let us know if you charge extra for the bread or for even dining in. read more
