Came here to see my partner's friend's band play for a bit and it was nice! Sound check was a bit loud and jarring, but that's understandable when you get there early (like we did for a good seat). There was a $5 cover charge - not bad - and our waitress was extremely attentive and sweet. My partner got a couple beers and I ordered the Creamsicle mocktail. It was SO yummy! I loved it and it was so cute! Great vibes with folks dancing and hanging out, though I do wish some folks had more self awareness/spatial awareness when standing around or dancing while other people are trying to get by... one woman dancing almost spilled another lady's drink, and another person almost crashed into a waitress trying to deliver a tray of drinks to a table. We walked in from the fun vibe and of course the piano music. Just had dinner and wanting a nightcap. I've been to Santa Barbara loads of time and this was the first time walking into this place. They did have a security guard in front checking ID. The crowd was pretty lively for Saturday night but not too overly packed. Piano man was having his moment. Hence the reason we walked in. Tables and booths were pretty much taken but we manage to get a seat at the bar counter. Cocktail menu had all you drinks, both mixed and specialty. It's a full bar so whatever you're craving I'm sure they could create. We got a few drinks as there was a couple of us. The bartenders was really sweet and fun. She was having a good time and taking care of everyone. It was only her when we walked in but a few others showed up a couple of minutes later. One of the cocktails was a bit too sweet for me so I opted for another. Went with a beer which was ok. Drink wise, about 18-20.00 per cocktails. About average wherever you go to now. Even though we were at the bar counter, a waitress came over to take our order. Piano man was very good. When we walked in he was taking request from the audience. Afterwards, the song choices were pretty great. And the sing along with everyone was fun. Hence why people love a good piano bar. Would I come back, yes. The vibe was great. It was fun place with a good amount of seating. There's a nice big bar area as well as patio seating in front. I don't know if food is offered. Would definitely come back for a fun night. read more

This is such a fun place. We stopped in for a Friday happy hour. It wasn't that busy, but it was lively and the bartender. Jess was super friendly and personable and took great care of us. We were just in town for a quick visit and we are so happy we came across this place. The music is great and it was a fun time. We ended up coming back on Saturday night too. Came here for a quick drink before some shopping. The ambiance was lovely, decorated for the holidays. Very relaxing and comforting. There were a couple singing and playing the piano. They did mostly 70s and 80s music. I thought they did an excellent job. I ended up trying the margarita and it came back quickly, which is never a good sign. Apparently they just throw some tequila with some pre-made mix from a bottle. Not quality, especially at the price point. It didn't taste great either. It was strong for sure, but tasted artificial and cheap. Not a fan. I would recommend drinking beer and wine when you come here and sit back and enjoy the atmosphere. read more

Moderately priced drinks- you can bring food from outside to eat. No one wants to drink for hours without at least a little snack. Red and black decor, with booths and bar seats. I booked VIP seating at the piano bar this past weekend, but the experience was very underwhelming. First, the VIP area was hot and stuffy with no air conditioning--I even felt bad for the performer. Second, there was no security rope behind our seats, so the crowd kept bumping into me and my wife, which was very uncomfortable. We felt like people were breathing down our neck most of the time. Even the larger VIP booths had poor setup; without any elevation or separation, it was impossible to see over the crowd. Third, I tipped for two song requests, but didn't hear either one played for over two hours. A suggestion is allow VIP guests to jump the queue once on top and play their requested songs... The performer, Alex Ivy, was very talented, but the system felt restrictive--you could only request songs already in her set list, with no room for impromptu requests. This was surprising, since in San Diego piano bars, improvisation type of requests are usually part of the fun. Overall, I don't know why I paid extra for VIP seatings because it didn't feel like a VIP experience at all. Basically you are only paying for the seats , not the service. We ended up leaving early, disappointed. This would have been 1 star review if it wasn't for the performer being so patient with the crowd and was really good. read more

I love the live music, a piano man who can play any song requested, possibly even with his own twist on the song and a dance floor or plenty of seating if you just like to watch. This is a review of Jason Libs rather than the Red Piano. We saw him at the Ventura County Fair and it all started out well enough, but after a number of songs I made a request for a sing-a-long type song and he not only refused to play it, he also told me in a very condescending manner that no one would know my song and that I should "read the room". I didn't much care that he didn't play my song, but I didn't really appreciate being spoken to in that manner and, needless to say, any possibility of him getting anything in the tip jar was out the window. Nevertheless, we stayed and, to my amusement, he picked 5-6 boring songs in a row (including a couple of requests that were apparently more on point in his view) and completely lost the crowd, with virtually no one engaging and many leaving. The whole thing completely petered out. As it turns out I wasn't the only one who couldn't "read the room". read more

I love this place and try to go every time I'm in town. The piano singer Tammy was seriously fantastic when I went there on a Saturday night early August. (I went a few months ago and the singer was just meh.) The crowd is usually a fun mix of girls-night-out groups and couples - both young and old. The drinks are fine - there's a specialty cocktail list and decent beers. The servers are very helpful and nice. One server gal even went out of her way to track me down when I left my phone in the bathroom (even though another patron stupidly tried to say the phone was hers but the server called bullshit on her when she didn't know the password to unlock it! ) People really suck sometimes. There was so much interaction from him and he made the night special for us, he was also one of the funniest performers I have ever seen so I hope they bring him back soon!
