    Dirty room without working locks

They gave me a dirty room with no lock on the door. I had to leave to go to the Days Inn across the street so me and my things would be safe. Took me weeks to get a refund!

    Trashed.

less than one star. checked in after a long day of driving to find a fully clogged sink. 2 hours of DIY maintenance later (in which we didn't feel comfortable leaving our things in the room, so we had to awkwardly wait), the bathroom was flooded and they "graciously" gave us another room- terrible smell, wouldn't even feel comfortable laying in the bed. My girlfriend and I on multiple occasions approached the desk to ask for some solution. "There's nothing we can do," and when we told them we would not be staying, they refused to refund us, citing they "now had to clean two rooms." Noone has ever cleaned those rooms. Rude, dumb, worthless, don't. One star for the entertaining meth users walking around the property.

This hotel is going through a renovation and uses that as its excuse for everything. We arrived to check in and were dismissed by reception because we are arrived an hour or so early. Then we get to our room and the real issues start. We have no lamp shades on our lamps so you are blinded if you turn lights on or you get to sit in the dark as there is no other lighting. Then we turn on the tv and only 3-6 channels work. The phone doesn't work and is missing buttons. We asked at the front desk and they just said it was part of the remodel and not a problem. They told us they may be able to send the maintenance guy up but he was currently he bartender so he probably wouldn't make it. They were rude and disrespectful. If a remodel is going to occur don't open rooms until they are complete.

    This is the sauna...so gross!!

This is one of the worst hotels I have stayed in. The carpet was gross, the sheets were not changed from the last guest, the bath tub was dirty(my son had to clean it), the bathroom sink was dirty. The hair dryer didn't work and there was no remote for the tv's, when we asked for a new hair dryer and remotes it was made very clear that we were a burden to the staff. Customer service is horrible and were very rude when we needed something. We never will be staying there again and you shouldn't either!

It's disgusting that they don't strip the bed after each person stays and replace with clean linens.

We didn't hear any traffic noise during our stay. -the room was spotless, bed was very comfortable, adequate supply of towels, toiletries. TV had cable. Air conditioning was cool after a day's hike. -breakfast was delicious. They served hot scrambled eggs, seasoned potato wedges, sliced sausages. They also had bagels with a selection of toppings, muffins, yogurt, sliced fruits, boiled eggs, assorted unpeeled fruits, waffle batter with ready to use hot griddles, oatmeal, cereals. They also have lots of dark roast, medium roast, decaf coffee, and selection of teas, juices. -service was good. Check-in was effortless, you either get your card key or you can use your phone via the app. Check-out was a breeze. The lady in charge of the dining area was very helpful. -they have a filtered water refilling station near the reception area (similar to the water bottle stations in the airports) so you can fill up before your hike. -lots of parking spaces -location is within walking distance to a Walmart so if you forgot something for your trip, you can buy it there. -location is also near gas stations and restaurants.

The accommodations and restaurants make staying in Alamosa attractive when we're doing anything related to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. The only negatives were a non-working elevator and not-kept-filled bacon bin at the buffet breakfast. No doubt the elevator situation was temporary and we just had bad timing. Odds are high we'll be back many more times, especially since you can get really good pricing when IHG is having one of their frequent flash sales.

What's worse is I came to find out the elevator was broken for at least 19 days. It's not like Alamosa is the back side of the moon -- how long does it take to fix a hotel elevator? But this hotel could have reached out in advance and notified guests -- or at least told us before we checked in (it was mentioned as an afterthought). My wife and I muddled through (even though we had to make extra trips because key cards kept deactivating) but I felt horrible for the elderly veterans that were forced to stay here (in town for an American Legion conference) many of whom were in wheelchairs, had mobility challenges or were carrying oxygen tanks. Come on IHG -- if you are going to be that inaccessible for that long, you could have notified people but I guess money matters more. I'm not going to focus on the broken jacuzzi or smelly moldy refrigerator in the room. Instead, my biggest complaint was the unsympathetic, "could-care-less" staff. I've never met people in "hospitality" who were so oblivious (or pretending to be) to the problems in the hotel and the complaints guests had. If Adams State has a hospitality course, I suggest management enroll their staff immediately. Having some empathy and pretending to care about issues like elevators that don't work, guests who may be facing challenges or other broke amenities would have been nice. This is only the second time in my adult life I've stayed in a Holiday Inn property and that gap was because the first time was horrendous (Gallup, New Mexico). As I told my wife: when given a choice next time -- anywhere but a Holiday Inn property. Skip this place and stay somewhere else with staff who are trained to care.

The air conditioner is in an alcove and it is a window unit. There is then a floor fan to push the air into the sleeping area. Forget about air conditioning in the bathroom. Everything in here is ancient and the dust is so old that whoever cleans would have to use a stiff bristle brush to get it off the stucco walls and the baseboards, so imagine the filth in the afore mentioned ancient carpet! The room smelled strongly of Febreze, makes me wonder what stench they are trying to hide. No one on the property after 9 pm and until after 3 pm the next day. Hated it.

I'm a fairly low maintenance traveler, especially when flying solo, so this simple motel checked the boxes for a one night stay. Price was comparable to nearby competitors, if not the best room rate in town. Huge plus! Dunes Inn is right on Main Street and within walking distance to several local restaurants. I arrived earlier than expected, and they were kind enough to have my room ready an hour early. For one person, the room was a good size. Brick wall was a bonus! Bathroom was small and in need of an overhaul. Noticeably short bath towels and I'm not even tall! Hangers, microwave, fridge, desk, TV, plenty of lighting, and storage. Bed was average and so were the pillows. If you're okay with a roadside motel, this place does the trick. Parking lot is small for the amount of rooms. Worth noting that even though you use a real key to enter your room, the doors lock automatically behind you. They do offer a free breakfast voucher at the cafe next door. Unfortunately I couldn't take advantage since I was catching sunrise and hiking at the park. A nice gesture though. This ain't the Ritz Carlton, nor is it trying to be. I'd stay here again if the room rates were still lower than others. Nothing wrong with it, nothing great with it!
