The fishing was also like nothing I had ever experienced. Great Fun even though we didn't catch any fish! We joined our host Clarence for an afternoon of ice fishing in a heated cabin. Clarence was the perfect host - easy going, knowledgeable, funny, engaging and professional. My hubby and I were lucky that others in the group were great with easy conversation and lots of laughs. The cabin can hold 16 people, each with their own fishing hole cut through the ice! Clarence made hot cocoa, reindeer sausage and cooked the few fish that some in our group caught. The call went to voice mail so I was just going to book online. My wife and I went ice fishing. CJ was outstanding ( our guide). Fish shack was comfortable and WARM. Rainbow trout and Arctic char we're the fishes we caught. CJ made reindeer sausage as a snack ( delicious). He cleaned and cooked our fish on the wood stove. An excellent day. We would recommend without any hesitation. My two teenagers and I did the snow mobile tour, ice fishing with the Northern Lights viewing. We had an amazing time! The fishing experience is so well worth it and in a heated cabin. That in itself was a life saver to be able to enjoy the Northern Lights in between. As a tourist from Hawaii, I am not exaggerating! Lol. Sunday, March 10, 2019 We had a last minute plan and with a little research, we called Rod's Alaskan Guide Service and Victoria was able to fit us in. My wife and I had a great day snowmobiling and dog sledding with Rod's. The snow mobiles are in excellent condition and Chuck, our guide, made sure we were safe and comfortable as we blasted down through the frozen lake and trees. Amber, our musher, and her dog team gave us a fun and thrilling ride. The dogs are incredibly strong and energetic. We learned a lot about dog sledding. My wife and I booked a one hour snowmobile, or as they say in Fairbanks snowmachine, tour. Prior to the tour, my wife was a bit apprehensive about the tour as she had virtual no experience driving a snowmobile and did not grow up in snow country. That being said, the staff at Rod's and snowmobiles that are available were top notch. Not only did they provide appropriate clothing and helmets to wear, ensuring we were comfortable and safe during the ride, but they also provided the opportunity to test drive the snowmobiles thereby allowing all drivers to get comfortable and familiar with them prior to the tour. During the tour, the staff went at a pace that was both safe and fun. Driving the snowmobiles through the beautiful Alaskan woodlands was an incredible experience for both me and my wife. Note, a portion of the drive immediately before entering Rod's may be a bit icy and narrow so driving an appropriate vehicle with a bit driving experience on ice may be important. We both highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting the Fairbanks area. read more

We did the ice fishing in the North Pole - about 24 minute drive from Fairbanks, and we had such a blast! The entire thing happens inside a makeshift "hut" that is kept warm and cozy. We had reindeer sausage, hot cocoa and caught king salmon and trout and got to cook and eat our catches. An experience I'll never forget. We showed up early so we got to hang out with and get to know Rod a bit. He has a real passion for these tours and it most definitely shows! This place is the best to book a snowmobile tour. They have new snow mobiles. The trail that they take you on is just breath taking. I recommend doing the 2 hour tour. the 1st hour was really scenic. the 2nd hour is where you get to have fun. I wished iIbrought my gopro. If you have one, you should bring it. some of the helmets have the gopro mount. Its a little more on the expensive end compared to other snowmobile tours. But its worth it. If on a budget, do a tandem on one snowmobile that way one person can can actually take their camera out and film and take photos. Well done this place. Well DONE!! read more

We did ice fishing first time in this store. The guide in cabin # F-86 didn't cook the fish even though there are still 45 mins left and he throw the fish into the lake even though the fish is big enough . The guide also was very rude to us and keep assuming that we keep the tag of caps and intend to return those caps to the store. We actually bought those caps yesterday and forgot tear the tags off and he assumes that we want to return those caps just because we didn't tear off the tags and he mentioned it two times, which is super rude. read more

My husband and I had such a wonderful time with Rod's Alaskan Guide Service. We had a tour with Rodney Jr. and he is such and amazing person. I felt like we knew him from a long time. He made us feel so welcomed! It was our first time snowmobiling and I was very nervous. He made us feel comfortable with his knowledge and expertise and that helped me ease on my nervousness. They do provide you with gears, which will keep you very warm. He explains everything very thoroughly and made sure we were comfortable before he took us out for a tour. We made few rounds around the building before we went out for the tour. The snowmobiles are equipped with heated handles for both driver and passenger. Even though its heated, warm mittens are highly recommended. The helmets are heated as well. There were times where my helmet got clouded and Rodney brought us back to change the helmet before we continued with the tour. Rodney made our whole experience very memorable. It was a beautiful tour and I will happily do it again if in town. Do try them if you are looking to have a little fun. read more

I am very disappointed with our dog sledding experience here. We paid $75 per person for two for 30 mins dog sledding, it's not cheap. But our tour guide just had terrible attitude. My dad can't speak English and he thought it was ok to sit on the sled so he did, and the tour guide got so mad, she was complaining non stop for like 5 minutes how we didn't follow her rules even after I explained to her the situation. And we basically had no communication during the tour. The thing that really upsets me is that we wanted to take pictures of us once we are finished with the tour and I politely asked her. She was just so impatient and she stood right in front of us to take couple. I mentioned that we want dogs in the picture, duh, that's the whole point of the picture. And she started complain again about how she has upcoming tours and she can't stay anymore yada yada. The worst thing, pics came out like crap, they are blurry and just bad in every way. We spent $150 on this and at least you can do is smile and take some good pics for us. It's not CHEAP, but Terrible experience. The only reason this place is getting two stars is because there was another female guide who was really nice, she was kind enough to introduce things to me after she finished tour with the group she was with. read more

Today my fiancé and I did a package deal through Rod's and to say our experience was amazing is an understatement. We started our day with Clarence who was extremely laid back and willing to let us try anything to catch fish via the ice fishing excursion. He was extremely knowledgeable of the area and fishing in Alaska. There were 6 total in our group and we caught 7 or so fish among everyone. After fishing we went dog sledding with Kaycee. Her dogs were very obedient and sweet. Kaycee was so nice and made our first dog sledding adventure so much fun! Last but certainly not least we went snowmobiling with Victoria! This was my favorite experience. We got to race across Chena Lake and saw a fox and several animal tracks. Victoria was super chill and made our adventure so exciting! If I could give Rod's more than 5 stars I would! read more

Rod is very unprofessional and confrontational. We tried to cancel and the policy is "if we replace you, you can have your money back". We made the reservation 48 hours before you tour date and tried to cancel. We were in a rural area of alaska with terrible service. In two emails, he told us two different arrival times. We were running late because we came from far away because we would never know if we were going to get our money back. This is a gentleman's agreement, and Rod is no gentlemen. He called me a liar and then he and his wife began to argue with me about how her husband was justified in his practices because he was a small business and he was in iraq. Our group was still there when we got there and if we would've hurried instead of them arguing with me, we would've made it and there wouldn't have been a problem. We didn't get to do our snowmobiling, even though they were sitting right there, still learning how to use them. Then Rod proceeded to bait me into further arguments with him. Rod mocked me then entire time. DO NOT schedule here. Rod is looking for a reason to take your money. read more

Chuck is a very nice and friendly guide, he kept us warm and taught us how to drive snowmobile. The helmet was fogging at first, but Chuck changed the chord for several times and removed the frost. It's very lucky to find them for my first travel to Alaska. Fishing and snow machine tours were perfect! The team is so friendly and helpful! We got 6 fishes, Aron helped cooked easily with butter and it's really yummy. After that when we were heading to snow machine tour place, we got stuck in the deep snow. Rod found us and pulled us out from there. We had a full 2 hours fun snow machine tour wearing all the clothes and pants provided by them.
