First time into this old school establishment. The setting is simply stunning. Hidden off Route 41, tucked into a little slice of heaven. The menu is classic with dishes from Escargot to crepe Suzette to Steak Diane and Veal Marsala and lots in between. Service by Marshall was outstanding. Food was excellent. So we haven't been here in a while but we decided to go with our neighbors . We started with a dish of onion rings which were very good. Next came the French Onion soup which had good flavor but was really small for the price and lacked broth. Our neighbors had the Caesar salad with anchovies and liked it. The ladies had the triple tail snapper which came out with very small pieces of fish. I had the rack of lamb and chose the 4 chops which came with a dap of mash potatoes,a couple slices of carrots a dap of cabbage and dipping sauce. $64 for 4 small chops and daps of sides! Really! My friend had the duck which was a decent size. All in all way overpriced for the portion sizes. The inside hasn't changed in years and is way too noisy. Service was good. read more

The gardens and layout of the resturant is beautiful: a relaxing setting with linens, comfortable chairs, separate rooms for different occasions, and space between tables makes this feel like you are in a private club. The food variety appeals to all (I'm GF and do not eat red meat), even the most discerning palate. And the service is exceptional. My girlfriend and I had dinner here and it elevated her weekend visiting. She loved the sweetbreads, wine and the atmosphere. A real compliment from a world traveler! What a spectacular place, in every way! I made reservations here for my husband's birthday. It is probably the best place we have been to since we moved here eight years ago. The staff is wonderful, the setting is beautiful, and the food was beyond delicious. There are gardens surrounding the entire place. You are eating in an enclosed space in the middle of a garden. You can walk around and take photos outside if you like. Be sure to ask for a window table. There have been many places I have wanted to try and ended up being disappointed. Nine of us celebrating three birthdays at Roessler's. We were immediately seated at a large round table in a quiet corner of the main dining room, next to the northside windows facing a small garden (the southside faces a charming pond.) There is an additional, smaller dining area also facing the pond. All starters and main courses ordered were very good: house, Caesar, & wedge salads; vichyssoise; red snapper; crab cakes, veal piccata, and filet mignon. Each main course comes with four sides, each beautifully displayed in a line across the top of the plate, with the main dish below. Service was superb. The prices are a good value for good food. Open Monday through Saturday from 5:00pm to close, I recommend you make reservations. Both the main dining room and the smaller dining area were full on a Wednesday night. Make sure you turn east from Tamiami Trail (Florida Route 45) onto Vamo Way. You can see, but not access the restaurant from the highway. Take the signed, second entrance to a large parking area in back of the restaurant. They have a covered Porte Cochere for loading/unloading, if it's raining. When exiting at night, be careful if heading southbound. There is no traffic signal, street lights, or signage to indicate the wide grassy median between northbound and southbound lanes. You can easily turn south too quickly and be on the wrong side of the road. read more

June 2 2023 - 2 for dinner / our 33rd wedding anniversary - Never been here in the 2 years we have lived in FL. We were looking for a special spot for occasions like birthday, anniversary, Mother's or Father's day etc etc. I had made reservations on Open Table which was problematic but with a quick message and a fast callback we fixed this directly. I am going to abandon Open Table fyi as this was the last issue for me. Call these folks directly. A VERY interesting spot modified private home blown out and heavily landscaped!!! Great ambiance, décor, and table settings. Sure a little 'dated' but that's the charm. Clean, impeccable tableware and place settings. Service by 'Marshall' was top notch and professional all the way!!! There seemed to be many regulars at the bar and in the restaurant and they were quite comfortable in their 'second' home like the Cheers bar? You will see why. 10/10 We ordered NA beer and a Cosmo and a second Cosmo later. both seemed a little lethargic in arriving and it was noted the bar was backed up?? But the place was not full at all? Maybe shorthanded? Bread arrived HOT and fresh, side plate with butter patty, oil and pepper as an option. Really nice. (don't usually score bread but this was a very nice product and cooked/baked perfectly) 10/10 We opted for a lobster/snail appetizer (Escargot a la Bourguignonne) that was nicely presented and served hot. There was some sort of 'off' spice or flavor or tanginess that my wife and I could not identify (hoping not a seafood issue with the snail or lobster) more on this later. At $22 this was a bit pricey certainly for the 6 quarter sized serving? Oddly enough that was $1 per letter in the description??? (smile) 5/10 My mistress for 33 years got the Snapper Pontchartrain with tomatoes, artichokes, mushrooms' capers and scallions etc etc. This was a very nice piece of fish and it was sauté nicely and served hot. The entrée was nice and the mushrooms and tomato but the spices and quality of the rice scoop, pickled cabbage scoop, two carrot slices, and scoop of creamed spinach was very buffet/cafeteria and overcooked or 'cool' when served. Of note at $41 for the entrée this was the second most expensive thing on the menu? 6/10 I went for the "Rack of Lamb" and got just the two chops for $34. (see picture) a nice display but I am not sure the word "rack" should be in this description. I was expected 2 full sized chops. As with my wife's entrée I got the same 'scoops' of veggies that were unimpressive and I skipped over after tasting. Additionally a potato veggie and a mushroom side that might have been made to order that were better. The veggies has some distracting heavy cinnamon and cumin spices and that may have been the odd flavor in the lobster/escargot appetizer. If you push all the veggies aside its $16 per mini chop..... (frown) 5/10 All in all, a lovely place and especially for a romantic dinner. A bit on the $$$ side in the value dept. A zero score for vegetarian, vegan, or other alternative diets. If one wanted to eat just vegetables you would be very disappointed. This was one of my 5 or so meals of the month 'off' my wfpb eating regime. A little more generous main portions for better value, and a vast improvement (or elimination) on the all veggie sides. Service was awesome and a great location/facility. read more

I don't know, this was probably a really lovely restaurant when it first opened. But it's kind of dated in my opinion. It's very pricey and our server was grumpy so that made it less fun. I had the chicken, I could've made it better at home. Gummy texture, side dishes of spinach and carrots and rice - boring. Dining partners were pretty neutral about their dishes as well, nothing to really write home about. The bananas foster made at tableside? Bananas were raw and green and the grumpy server made it behind us without a word. Isn't that supposed to be part of the experience when you have it at table-side? Like maybe engage with the dining patrons? Again I'm gonna use the word boring. Nothing really fresh or crisp or bright about this place. It's really past its prime. I would skip it. read more

I've lived in Sarasota for 13 years but honestly never heard about this restaurant until this year. I am sad I didn't discover it earlier, because I had a great time here! The restaurant is a bit in the middle of nowhere. I've driven past it many times without realizing it was there. The grounds are lovely and there's a good amount of parking available. There's different rooms where you can be seated, and there's even a few outdoor tables which I think have a view of the fountain. Our party of four sat in the main dining room. We ordered a bottle of Chianti Classico which was great. The bread was also warm and fluffy -- absolutely delicious. I ordered the following dishes: Escargot (4/5) pretty good--ofc doesn't compare to what I've had at French restaurants but delicious nonetheless. Salmon (5/5) really enjoyed this dish and the various flavors. Parfait Roessler (5/5) delicious. The almond brittle and ice cream combination almost reminded me of creme brûlée. The service was great as well. Our server admitted she forgot to bring espresso at one point and once she realized, she offered it on the house. I would return! read more

This is an absolute elegant old world gem! The atmosphere and space is perfection. The service incomparable for the area and the food wonderful and old school. I had a French martini, classic wedge salad, Chardonnay and filet mignon with perfect sides (mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, roasted red cabbage and glazed carrots) and fabulous fried onion straws. The food and service here are at the top of my list for fine dining. The staff are knowledgeable and engaging without being "overly" attentive. The Salmon served over Orzo is off the charts. As long as you like ginger and soy in the sauce - I love it. The setting is beautiful with lush landscape and a pond with a fountain. If the weather is nice, the patio is beautiful place to dine. The only caution I'll offer is that the "main" dining room is very large and can be noisy and like a conference facility. Of course this is advantage for large groups like wedding parties, etc. My advice is request seating in one of the small dining room adjacent to the bar. Intimate setting and a great view of the outdoors. Pricey? Yes but I've never been disappointed with any meal I've I had here. read more

Not a safe choice for those with dietary restrictions. While the food and service were enjoyable for most of our party, their handling of food allergens was concerning. Clear allergen information and staff knowledge are lacking even for common food allergens. Upon ordering drinks we asked about the house vodka to ensure it was gluten free and were told "it doesn't matter because its distilled". Unfortunately, this was not limited to the serving staff as after checking with the kitchen/manager our party was still served food which "may contain gluten" when we asked what that meant we were told there might be "just a little bit of flour". Unfortunately, this resulted in one member of our party afraid to eat any entree due to the lackadaisical approach to food allergens and cross contamination. Furthermore, the manager never came to address these issues and no discount was offered for the experience of the table. read more
