I ordered the Adobada Fries and they were massive! It was enough for 2 full meals. The fries were nicely crispy with the adobada meat being fairly tender and flavorful. Mixed together with the salsas, this was a really good meal. Customer service was ok, atmosphere was ok, but attention to detail was so bad. I ordered some carne asada fries and all I received was a box of cheese fries and my roll tacos weren't that great. Really ruined my day at the beach. I went back to try to get a refund but they couldn't give it to me via the payment method I used (CC). The burrito came with a decent amount of bacon and a good amount of eggs. I did not like that they did not scrambled the eggs well enough. There should be very little whites and mostly yellow with a good scramble. Anyways, they put a good amount of cheese in the burrito which was a good thing of course. The service was fast and friendly even for a lunch time. But a mixed burrito that I ordered had more bell pepper (large pieces too!) than it had beef. Mixed burritos I've ordered from other Mexican shops have usually had more beans than beef but the onions, peppers, etc are usually cut a lot finer and mixed in thoroughly to notice. Sometimes, they don't even use ripe avocados because I bit into a few chucks that looked like it wasn't ripe and some of them look odd.. they were dark. Bleh! This is a pretty average taco shop. There's a lot of room inside for seating, the menu is pretty extensive and has a variety of items. It not seem like the most welcoming place since there's jail bars at the counter. I only got a breakfast burrito (bacon & cheese). This is one of my favorite tacos shops in San Diego that I been coming to for over 9 years now, but lately I been very disappointed with the customer service and food quality. I ordered 2 breakfast burritos with ham, bacon, cheese, french fries and sour cream. Both breakfast burritos came with no sour cream and one of them had no french fries, but I did get charged for all the extra added toppings. I just came back from ordering food to take home. Two words...never again. This by far is the WORST torta in existence. I ordered a carne asada torta, without guacamole. Most of the time this is fine because the beans spread on the bread provide enough flavor and moisture to make the sandwich edible. I get home to a soggy disgusting mess. I couldn't pick up the torta because it was so soggy it ripped. I use a fork then start eating and its literally all lettuce, FOUR chunks of meat, and onions and green pepper. Bland and dry. So why is the bread so soggy? It's a mystery. No beans spread on the bread. I eat the meat by itself, dry as tree bark and not marinated. Just tastes like boiled meat. Soooo much lettuce. Nothing could help this disaster. So soggy, it's inedible. I am in disbelief over this food. Also a carne asada quesadilla was ordered. Dry, meatless, cheese less disaster. Gross. My daughter had a "crazy" burrito. This is basically a California. Fries, fries, and some more fries, carne, cheese, sour cream....and more fries. I was amazed at how large the burrito was until I cut it in half for her and saw it was 95% fries, 3% carne, 2% cheese and sour cream. Also drier than sand. No amount of salsa could help this food. This is a place I've actively tried to avoid since the incident several years ago where two people were injured or killed or something in a botched robbery attempt on the shop. It, of course, explained why there was a gigantic steel jail-like bar that separates the eating area from the service kitchen and cashier. It reminded me of the Subway shop across the street before it was renovated last year. Honestly, it made me feel a little uneasy, though it was interesting to order through a tiny slit in the cage. I like the variety in the menu, though the prices are a litle steep for "cheap Mexican food," in my opinion (or it may be a function of my not having much money in the first place). It was close by so that's why we picked it for lunch. My brother had the California burrito, which seemed like the better option on the dreary Saturday afternoon we went to get lunch. I had the carne asada fries, which was light on the guacamole and a little too cheesy for my taste. Horchata was good, though. I did feel like my arteries were clogging like crazy after taking a bite of each fry. Interesting to see some old arcade games in the eating area as well. These guys are my go to take out spot. They are always generous with portions, the food tastes fresh, and they are always kind to their customers. They even walked the food out to us during this quarantine time. We really enjoy their salsa, and they have agua frescas and sodas to drink.
