I debated on writing this but the more I think about it, it just doesn't feel right so figured I'd…read moreshare to give others a heads up. No complains about the repair - they did a great job! I took in a wedding ring crown that has 5 diamonds on it since I had lost one of the diamonds. Upon bringing it in, Josh let me know they could fix it and was already bagging it up without even giving a quote. I then asked for a quote since I'd gotten one from the original maker of the ring. I had let him know the quote he gave which was $390-425 was higher than what they quoted. But ultimately decided I'd rather have it fixed locally than send it out since I didn't want to wait (which I voiced verbally). He took a closer look and said they could do it for $425. I said okay because after shipping costs, it would only be ~$40 more than sending it to the maker. He said okay, and that he'd pick out the diamond today and I'd have it back the following week. 2 full weeks went by before it was ready so I was already a bit annoyed since that was likely the same turn around if I mailed it to the maker! But then when I went to pick it up, the price was $595+tax. I asked why the price difference (and refreshed his memory on our convo at drop off) and he just said okay we can do it for $495. So not only did it take just as long, but in the end after tax I spent over $100 more than what I would have spent if I sent it to the maker.

This is a wonderful jeweler's and I can attest to such, as a diamond cutter of thirty years experience.... I was not charged (even when I insisted) for polishing a personal piece of jewelry-

I had a broken ring that needed repair, but after being turned away by several jewelry stores that…read moredidn't want to take on the work, I was starting to think it couldn't be fixed. After an extensive search, I came across Baraka Gems. Their reviews gave me confidence, so I decided to give them a try, and I'm so glad I did. From the moment I walked in, Jamie, the manager/owner, made the experience easy and stress-free. During the initial assessment, he took the time to carefully examine my ring, listened to what I wanted, and never once made me feel pressured. Instead of pushing his own opinions, he presented multiple repair options, clearly explained the pros, cons, and associated costs, and let me decide what was best for me. They were able to repair my ring beautifully, and the cost was incredibly reasonable. I was especially impressed by their commitment to customer service and the quality of their craftsmanship. Even though my repair was likely a relatively small job compared to some of their other work, they treated it with the same care and attention as if it were a major project. It's rare to find a business that is so honest, transparent, and genuinely focused on doing what's best for the customer. I can't recommend Baraka Gems highly enough, and they'll be my first stop for any future jewelry repairs or purchases.

Jamie was extremely helpful in evaluating some heirloom jewelry for me. He was both knowledgeable…read moreand kind, giving me honest assessments of market value while exhibiting tact and understanding of the sentimental value of the items I brought in to his shop. He made the experience pleasant, did not pressure me at all, and gave me good value for the few items I decided to sell. Also, Baraka Gems uses a nifty little machine to determine gold content, not a scratch test, so my pieces weren't damaged. I had previously visited another company, which did use scratch tests, without warning me in advance. Upsetting! I highly recommend Baraka Gems, and am very glad I found them!

Grumpy, unhelpful, and rarely open…read more I needed a watch repair so I called multiple times and they never returned my call. When I stopped in, I pulled out my watch and the man grumbled and pointed at the woman without saying anything. The woman said she "doesn't do watches anymore." When I asked for a recommendation, she said she didn't have any. I live nearby and often walk past the store; they rarely seem to be open, even during their listed hours.

Jack K. Seattle, WA…read more Took my Beehive Seth Thomas Mantle Clock to the Ballard Time Shop. Donna, the woman working at the shop, said it needed to be cleaned and charged me $400. She also said that the former clock repairman had died, but she had a retired "engineer" that worked on the clocks, which right there was a red flag. I was told it would take two to three weeks to clean. It took five. When I tried winding it after I took it home, I found Donna had replaced my original brass key with a metal key made in India that didn't even fit my clock. Over the phone, Donna started arguing with me that she had given me the key I had brought in with my clock. When I returned to the shop with the clock and the metal key that didn't fit my clock, Donna tried claiming that the friend that was with me when I picked it up must have picked up the metal key from the counter. She would never answer directly what had happened to my key. She finally gave me the only key she said she had that would fit my clock. It wasn't my original one. As I was winding my clock three weeks later, a metal part dropped out of the the mechanism inside. Since then my clock doesn't chime properly. For example, it will chime four times when it is six, making a noise when skipping the other two chimes. At twelve, it doesn't chime at all. Supposedly my clock was only going to be cleaned. I suspect that Donna, or her "engineer" clock repairman, replaced the original mechanism with another. I plan to take my clock to another clock repair shop to see if I can get it fixed. I would never take it back to the Ballard Time Shop.
