This place is very simple and probably a pain when it gets busy, but it gets five starts on the Sushi quality / price ratio.

I never write reviews, but I had such a great experience at Rollapalooza I felt inclined to do this thing. I have been to all of the Lakeview sushi places, and not only was this the best value I have experienced, the sushi was as fresh as any I have ever had. I consider Wakamono to be the golden standard for freshness (not value) in my neighborhood, and Rollapalooza smoked them in that category on my first visit. As far as value, a party of 4 actually left food on the table we were so full, with the tab totaling $69. The BYOB factor only helps the value, and they even give you real wine glasses, not the glass dixie cups ala Penny's. I guess the only downsides would be the size of the dining area. A large group is going to have a problem on a busy (or maybe not that busy) night. The majority of the seating is at the sushi bar, not exactly condusive to a large group conversation. If you are looking for a fun place to take people on a Friday or Saturday night I would recommend Sushi Mura, as this place is lacking in the atmosphere category. Any other night or situation I chose Rollapalooza over any other. Overall I highly recommend this place, don't let the fast food type of name deter you from some of the best sushi Lakeview has to offer. read more

Been there twice, overall not really excited with the food. The spider roll was absolutely horrible. They ran out of clean plates, and it took 12 minutes for the service to get us a clean set. The fish was chewy and clearly not as fresh as everyone else had. The only good thing is the BYOB. They accept credit card but I suggest paying cash, the sushi chef frowned at us for paying credit on the first day. The place caters more to the carryout customers than the dine-in. read more

I haven't had better service. We walked in one night as they were opening. It was clear they weren't ready for us, but they told us to have a seat and brought us a snack. I've ordered delivery food from Rolla several times in the last few months and it's always spot on. As someone who eats vegan they have some awesome veggie combo rolls outside of the norm which is nice (my favorite is the Green In, the cilantro is a game changer). Tonight I ordered delivery on yelp and they include a free roll depending on purchase amount, I commented "no spicy salmon roll as I don't eat fish" and instead they sent an avocado and cucumber roll. This attention to detail is part of the reason I will continue to order here time and again. Also the house salad is amazing, the peanut butter dressing having just the slightest hint of PB so it's not overwhelming, and I love the spicy miso soup as well. read more

This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants! It's BYOB and the food is delish. They have sushi rolls made without rice...had it for the first time and it tasted so fresh. The other rolls were great too. Then I had a coffee gelato dessert and I have to say it was so well prepared...there were espresso beans and chocolate syrup too. Definitely a must try. read more

I love Rollapalooza (delivered, never dined there). My husband and I used to order from there once a week; we tried other places but the fish wasn't as fresh as the one from Rollapalooza. I'm a fan of Rollapalooza, and not just because I live down the street (but it certainly helps). First off, it's a BYOB. The interior is pretty simple and not very large, so there are times (mostly on weekends) when it is packed. Even while busy, the service is attentive. I've been there enough times where I can write an educated review. The prices are really reasonable, so when you're in the mood for sushi, this is a great pick. The shumai (dumpling) appetizer is really good, but be sure to wait for it to cool before wolfing it down, or you will end up with a burnt roof-of-mouth, like I did. Ouch! Their selection of rolls is really extensive. The spicy tuna tataki comes out literally on fire (the flames make for a cool effect, but don't worry - they die down if you wait a minute or two). I would also recommend the pink flower. The presentation is lovely and I found the pink soybean wrap to be a much more palatable alternative to seaweed. Also enjoyed the mafia roll. The chefs get creative and still manage to get the food out quickly. The sushi is tasty, and ordering a signature roll a piece will be enough (although with sushi, you are never FULL-FULL). I give this place an enthusiastic two thumbs up. The atmosphere is cozy, but not out of this world, the prices are realistic, and the service is on-point. read more

We came here specifically because of the new owners Eric and Minnie. We've followed Eric from sushi restaurant to sushi restaurant because he makes the best sushi in Chicago - hands down. Now that he is an owner, we're happy to have a permanent place to find him and his delectable fish. I wish I had a menu in front of me because I can't remember the name of the appetizer that we devour each time. It might be called wild tartar but I like to call it sushi nachos. It's basically spicy tuna and spicy salmon on top of crispy, fried rounds. It's really light and crazy good. We're big maki eaters and love any roll with salmon or tuna. Some of the rolls we dig are the R&J, crazy roll, passion roll, crunchy melt - just to name a few. It's also BYOB with no corkage fee! Please come check out the new and IMPROVED Rollapalooza. Rollapalooza is delicious. The first time I ate here I was able to sit at the sushi bar, which was entertaining. The Chef's were great if I had a question about a roll or what was in it. I'm Celiac and the waiter was very knowledgeable about what could be made gluten free. The second time I had this I ordered from GrubHub which always makes me nervous. I had put "gluten free" in the comments and they delivered a side of gluten free soy sauce. Highly recommend!!! read more

Visiting from Portland, OR we have high standards for sushi and creative cuisine, which were pleasantly met! My son and i were visiting colleges and stayed nearby. We were seated right away, enjoyed Shu-mai that was tender, delicate and fresh, edamame and four amazing rolls - the Turtle, smoky something and two others that our server recommended - one wrapped in soybean paper with jalapenos and microgreens that was so fresh. What I say and write here is true and I will not be responsible for any of these. I only speak of truth. As I'm a former employee of this sushi place called Rollapalooza on Halsted, I've noticed a few things that I should share with ya'll freely, They have only little over 10 water glasses, and 20 seats !!! And no dishwasher or kitchen !!! When it's busy over weekends...Who do u think would wash the glasses and your soy sauce trays?!? Server only the server rinse them sometimes when it's busy, only when she's got time to run to the back. They have one sushi chef and one only one server which explains that they trying to cut the budget and salary expences. But I tell u they do have some good tasting and cheap sushis. Yes, indeed. But about sanitation, As i worked there and mentioned about this, I was let go, almost fired. But' Its ok... I can get another job, but I can't leave this alone that who ever eats there, will get sick and desease or that pig desease easy. I tried to call the health dept. but i was on hold for a while i hang up. Aslo, this new "ownered" Rollapalooza sushi chef gets drunk after 8pm and smokes in his kitchen after the store closes. Tuna nigiri average - that light pink dried out appearing tuna not the really fresh darker pink fresh tuna that I have had at most other sushi places. Rolls were covered in sauce/mayo - could barely taste the rolls. Salmon/Tuna appetizer on crispy base covered in sauce. I was disgusted by the amount of sauce that was covering everything - I could not eat it. Lots of other good sushi places around me, will not be ordering from here again. I really liked this place! All of the rolls that were ordered tasted very fresh and had a nice mix of textures. I also liked that the sushi was actually rolled well- all of the ingredients were snug enough that the sushi pieces didn't fall apart as you picked them up. We also ordered the cucumber salad, and that was a hit. On top of the food being above average, the restaurant also had a cute and cozy atmosphere, and the service was great. I was happy because our waitress did not rush us to finish- even though the restaurant was very small and people were waiting for tables. read more

Went to Rollapalooza with a couple friends for dinner last night. When we got there we were immediately sat and greeted with a friendly attitude. We all ordered miso soup (one ordered spicy miso) to start and it was brought out very quickly and still hot. One of my friends and myself ordered a shrimp tempura roll and the rollapalloza. My other friend ordered a shrimp tempura and a red dragon roll. Our server brought everyone's shrimp tempura roll out first since it was ready earlier. We all really appreciated how she didn't let the food sit there and wait for the remainder of the order. It was nice to spread out the servings. The shrimp tempura roll was delicious and topped with a delicious house mayo dressing. The rollapalloza was hands down one of the best rolls I've ever had. It was full of a variety of fish and worth the money. My friend also said his red dragon was one of the better rolls he's ever had. We will definitely be coming back! read more

Wow! What a place to go to! Sushi is fresh and the prices are unbelievable! I recently went back there and I noticed that they hired a new sushi chef and server. The sushi chef was making samples of what is going to be on the new menu, and so far the 2 menu items I tried were mind blowing! The new waitress was so helpful and nice, what a doll and very pretty too! She helped me pick out rolls according to my taste buds and I ended up loving every single one of them!
