I don't like to write negative reviews and I usually fight off the urge. This is different. I have been coming to Rollies for 10 years. I'm polite, I tip better than well, having been behind the bar for a long time, and I'm sympathetic to being on the floor of a busy restaurant when it's super busy and maybe the kitchen is on drugs that night or just in the deep weeds. I've been there and it can test you, that's for certain. But the wait staff at Rollies almost defies description for people working in the hospitality trade. Not only are they generally not remotely hospitable, not only are they completely unclear on the concept, but on a night when they're in a bad mood, a not infrequent occurrence , they are surly to the point of being disdainful of patrons. Their specialty, cultivated to a high art, is ignoring you. They will walk by your table multiple times and look the other way because they don't want to see you trying to get their attention after they haven't been by your table for 20 minutes. When they do stop by, ask them a question about the menu at your peril. They do not brook questions graciously. The worst part is that they are proud of this behavior. You can see it. It's a power trip to them. They are the very worst kind of servers - they have a chip on their shoulders and want to make abundantly clear from the start that you are NOT the boss of them. (I don't want to be anyone's boss; I jsut want the beer I've been sitting her 15 minutes trying to coax one of you to get me as you glide by not making eye contact!) Rollies can be a very unpleasant experience, even for regulars. Apparently, if you didn't go to high school with them, the wait staff assumes you'r one of "them" and immediately takes a combative stance. I've worked local bars, this is not the way you do it. You take care of your friends, you take care of your regulars and you take care of first timers. Not that hard. So if you want decent second-rate bar food and you have a hankering to deal with ignorance and inhospitably from a surly waitress with a chip on her shoulder, this place is for you. Read the reviews; this behavior is commonplace there. Rollies is an unmitigated disgrace to the restaurant/bar business. They seem to think that the word hospitality is Latin for FU. The fact that it is busy is a testament only to the complete lack of a decent watering hole in Belfast. read more

Stopped at this place for lunch in Belfast. Limited menu due to Covid, which a lot of places have right now. We ordered the lobster roll & the Rollie's burger. We were the only two people sitting under their tent when we got there. We got 2 Pepsi's, and one was out of date, seriously a different color than the other one and tasted awful. When asked if i could have a replacement, I got the "are you kidding me?" stare. I opted for another beverage instead of the Pepsi for fear of another out of code soda and didn't want to have to ask for another one. The burger was ok but the lobster roll, for $18.00 was very skimpy on the meat and the fries were really greasy, half cooked and still tasted like raw potato. This was our second time here, as our first experience, a few weeks ago, was better. We'll probably be back, but won't get the lobster roll. read more

I have had the lunch specials, the cheeseburger, and also the fried haddock sandwich, and everythAng has been real, real nice. They have a relatively good beer selection here as well. We are somewhat new to the area. We only came here once, for lunch. My husband did not like his burger. He said it was a premade patty that came overcooked and tasted like cardboard. I had the haddock sandwich, which wasn't bad. I was happy to see a jukebox, and went to play some music. My husband overheard one of the staff saying, "Great, she is playing the jukebox. I guess we aren't going to listen to the game." At that point, I had already played a bunch of songs, so I felt weird and unwelcome. Not to mention, the volume was way down on the jukebox and I was hesitant to ask for it to be turned up after the comment. It's doesn't take 10 minutes to make a Cubra Libra busy or not and most of time they don't know what that is. Too bad for their kitchen, because the pizza was real good. Small buffalo chicken pizza (they were out of large) was perfect for one person. Beers were also good and extra cold. The service tho? Mediocre to terrible. Even with 2 out of 3 of us wearing our work shirts (also work in a restaurant) we couldn't get any decent service. Take care of the people who will take care of you; that's not here. One of us got nachos, not recommended. They never looked good, certainly didn't taste good; but they kept asking if we wanted a box for the 89% of the nachos that weren't touched. No thanks. If u can get to go from here, highly suggested. We had the best time here! Amazing waitstaff. Anna(I think that was her name) I'll be mad at myself if I got her name wrong.....is such an amazing woman. So sweet and personable. She made us very comfortable. We went in a little too late after an AWFUL experience(at a different establishment) to get food, but the vibe was good, so we stayed and had a blast. Came in for a few drinks. Service was excellent, all female staff was super attentive and beyond pleasant and happy. All the staff had masks on which is appreciated. I could tell this was a "regulars" bar because all the staff knew alot of the clientele. Great to see this as it shows the staff cares about who they are serving. Also, the staff was clearly enjoying themselves, singing along to the music, great to see, shows that they are happy in their work environment. I'm new to Belfast (literally moved in at the beginning of this month) and I've already been here three times. It's just such a comfortable vibe. The wait staff work extremely hard but they do so with a smile, their positive attitudes are so refreshing because they are anything but forced. You can tell this is a local's place by all the greetings you hear. The food is delicious, the baked haddock tasted scrumptious yet light. The French fries are probably the best I've ever had, but I like them thin and natural cut, fried extra crispy. And that is exactly how they serve theirs! Beers are cold and served up swiftly. Even when they are slammed, you will never feel forgotten or ignored, as far as I can tell. Salads, veggie burgers, have all been very tasty. I look forward to trying all of their veggie and seafood items in due time. Rollies feels like home, and it's perfect for families, large groups, or having a beer and a snack all by yourself. Not a good experience. Let's start with our server: old, crabby, no smiles and very abrupt with the service. Seemed annoyed with our every word. The food: bland bland bland. I have eaten here many times but its been a while. With that said i feel the quality of food has gone down. I uad the fish and chips and was very soggy and in my opinion it wasnt cooked 100%. Not sure why this place is busy, the service is TERRIBLE. All of the staff we interacted with were incredibly rude, dismissive, and slow. I don't have much to say for the food either. We were in on Monday and our waitress carried our waters under her armpit. The cheese on the "nachos" was barely melted. First mistake was trying Rollie's, second mistake was coming back. We came in tonight to pick up our take-out, and the bartender brushed us off and told us it'd be out shortly. 20 minutes later we asked again and it turns out that our order had been sitting at the counter for 45 minutes. The waitress who checked us out was incredibly rude and said we "should've told someone we were there and asked for our food", which we obviously did the moment we went in. I then asked her to add our Yelp coupon for 10% off and she asked with an attitude, "is this something that's going to take me a while to figure out?" as if she wasn't going to give it to us because she didn't have the time. Rollie's was a relief to find at 805pm when all the other restaurants and the entire town go to bed. Great sports bar atmosphere and our server was awesome. Food was great, just what we needed considering we had only been eating seafood for days. :) Burgers were cooked perfectly and had great flavor. Loved the fresh cut fries as well. The clam rolls were really good and a great deal at $14 for a double roll dinner with homemade chips. The Red Sox game was on so the atmosphere was really boisterous and fun. Remember that this is a sports bar so it can get loud. I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for a quiet, reserved dinner. Definitely be back the next time I am in town. read more

It a sports bar/ Restaurant right on the pier. Seems like the locals here love this place because it was Jam packed with people. I ordered a Philadelphia steak sandwich that was filled to the max and delicious and my wonderful wife had the steak salad and said it was delicious. My only complaint was that my order was to go and there was no takeout bags and I had to walk two blocks to get to my car and try not to drop my chow. That was an inconvenience that cost them one star on my reviews. The good news is that I got there safe and the food was good. God Bless my fellow foodies. read more

When I am in Belfast this is definitely my favorite place to be, great food and perfect staff. It can get busy with the tourists but the staff will always be there to service you. Their Rueben is honestly the best I've had even traveling the world. Not sure what it is about this place! I have given it not one or two- but three tries! Every time I sit at the bar and am completely ignored by the female staff. My boyfriend is served immediately and they make sure he gets a refill if needed. On the other hand, I sit there like a child in time out wondering if I have to wait until my next birthday to be asked if I need anything. The ONLY time I was given proper service is by a male bartender. (so ridiculous) That was on my second visit to be exact. The MAINE (play on words- for those of you who don't get it you must be from there!) reason I am giving it one star is the cleanliness. The bar is never wiped down, and when I put my hands on it, they were sticky and nasty. Obviously I went to the ladies room to wash my hands only to find that the bathrooms were disgusting as well, no soap and paper towels were out. (But employees are supposed to wash their hands though right???) We ordered an hot wing appetizer and I listened to my gut and decided not to eat a lot of it- although it made my stomach turn the whole night anyways! This place is a great example of a seafood pub and grill. Great drinks! Friendly service. Awesome seafood. I chose the fried scallops meal with coleslaw and waffle fries. I didn't order any drinks, however, from the menu you can see they serve a plethora of beer and wine. The decor was very unique that catches everyone's attention. This is a hangout for locals. It used to be a rough place full of the wrong type. They've spruced it up since those days... atmosphere and food are better, but that's not saying much! It still has an air of exclusion for "other than here folks". I remember the days that they served pizza that tasted like it was on cardboard... Hardly better than Chef Boyardee homemade pizza in the box. Staff is rude, and or indifferent, depending on the moment. At times I feel like they think they're doing me a favor taking my money. Food is inconsistent at best. Fried everything! Parboiled ribs that have no flavor smothered in bottled sauce. Even the burgers are hit or miss. The biggest food disappointment are the fries. French fries are supposed to be crisp! Not limp, wrinkled, greasy nastiness. Changeout the oil for goodness sakes and if your gonna serve homemade fries cook them properly! I'll gladly come show you how for a modest fee.
